On a Wednesday afternoon during lunch, Yoojin was at the cafeteria with Huiyeon and Wooyoung. She dug into her rice joyously.

"So, you wouldn't ever hate me, would you?" Huiyeon asked as she played with her vegetables. "I mean, I am too loveable."

Yoojin ignored that comment. "What's this about? Is this about you holding hands with Youngbin in the corridors?"

"Shit, I told him someone would see."

"Are you dating him?" Yoojin gently questioned the girl opposite her.

Huiyeon stalled, biting her lip.

"Yes," she finally blurted out. "I'm sorry, I just really like him. He's hot but he's also so smart and caring and cool."

"Then as long as you're happy, I'm happy. Just promise me that if you break up, you won't abandon me," Yoojin requested.

She wasn't going to put Youngbin off limits; she was tired of him always scaring off and fighting guys who looked at her. Yoojin wasn't going to be that person. So, Huiyeon smiled, relieved.

"Thank you! And of course, I won't abandon you like that jerk," Huiyeon pointed her head at Wooyoung, who was sitting next to Yoojin.

"Get lost," the boy quipped, leaving out the profanities since he was next to Yoojin.

The wavy-haired girl replied with her middle finger. Then she turned to Yoojin with a suspicious grin, her small meal now done.

"Yoojin, what do you think about going on a blind date?" Huiyeon asked.

Wooyoung intensely glared at his pork katsu, stabbing it like he was murdering it.

"A blind date?" the other girl echoed.

Huiyeon nodded. "A guy I know from another school asked me to go with his friend this Saturday but I'm not free, so I told him that you'd go."

"So, you already set me up on this date?"

Thinking for a second, Huiyeon nodded. Yoojin chewed her lip, peeking at Wooyoung. She didn't want to go on a date if it wasn't Wooyoung.

"Come on, just give it try," Huiyeon begged. "You should try everything at least once in your life. Seeing you mope around is so sad. You deserve to have fun and experience new flavours."

She side-eyed the boy. Truthfully, she rooted for Wooyoung and was praying that this would give them the kick that they needed. And then hopefully, she could finally go on double dates with them.

Wooyoung didn't say anything; he just chewed his meat repeatedly. As always, he was reserved around other people.

"Wait, so you already told him I'd be there?" Yoojin frowned.

Huiyeon nodded.

"Then, I guess I have to go," Yoojin replied.

Wooyoung glared at the girl. She was too nice to refuse anything. His pork suddenly tasted bland, and he mentally scheduled out this Saturday.

So, Yoojin found herself that weekend waiting outside the cinema. She kept checking her phone, waiting for his update since Huiyeon gave her his number. On the hot summer afternoon, she was wearing an orange, sleeveless dress. Yoojin rocked back and forth on her heels as she waited. The smell of popcorn wafted through the air as couples and various clusters walked through the large space.

Then, a good-looking guy approached her. He had shaggy brown hair, a pointed nose and was decked out in the latest clothes. His thin fingers waved at her when he arrived.

"Hi, you must be Yoojin," the boy announced. "I'm Gunwoo. I heard about you from Huiyeon."

Yoojin nodded gently. "Nice to meet you."

They silently went to buy their tickets, a bucket of popcorn and drinks. Yoojin kept playing with the ends of her hair. She'd never done this before and didn't know what to say. They decided to watch a comedy movie – something both were sure to enjoy. Gunwoo kept sneaking looks at the girl while they sat down in their seats.

"You're much prettier in person, by the way," Gunwoo commented.

Yoojin cringed. That sounded like the one hundredth time he's said that. He definitely wasn't as smooth as other guys she knew.

"Thank you," she simply said.

"You're clearly the scene stealer of this movie."

Yoojin blinked. All she could do was politely smile. If he pulled out pick-up lines like this out of his bottom the whole day, she was going to have to be picked-up soon by her brother for, let's just say, an emergency.

"Do you like baseball?" Gunwoo seemed to never stop.

"Not particularly," Yoojin replied. "I'm not very sporty."

"That's fine. You can just watch me play. You should see me swing the bat. Trust me, I'm good at swinging the long thing."

Yoojin thought blind dates being weird was only a stereotype. That's what Wooyoung thought too. One row behind the couple but two diagonal, Wooyoung hid in a seat. He totally didn't intend to follow them but what could he do when Huiyeon supposedly told him their location and time on accident? Wooyoung just wanted to watch a funny movie today.

The lights started dimming and the screen came to life. Finally, Yoojin could stop listening to the boy drone on about baseball. The movie was worth it, and the many scenes made her laugh out loud. Wooyoung chuckled to himself when he saw her laugh.

As Yoojin reached for the popcorn, Gunwoo took that chance to go for the popcorn too – well, her hand to be exact. He kept eating and pretended like nothing happened. In his chair behind them, Wooyoung gripped the armrest as if doing a grip strength test. He was leaning so far forward that he could almost touch the chair in front with his chin.

When the movie rolled to the credits, Yoojin and Gunwoo left, with a Wooyoung creeping behind them from a safe distance. They managed to find some conversation in school subjects and that carried them through to their next destination. Gunwoo led her to a McDonald's for an early dinner.

"Hope you don't mind. I didn't bring much money with me," the boy said.

Of course, Yoojin said she didn't mind. As they stared at the menu, she chewed the inside of her lip.

Then, they moved to the counter. They ordered a burger set each and paid separately. Luckily, it was quiet in the large restaurant. Once they got their food, they sat at a small red table near the middle of the place.

A few tables away, Wooyoung was hiding behind the barrier as he munched on his chips and drank his mint chocolate frappe. He tried listening to their conversation, which made him want to spew the fries back out.

"Wow, I can't believe you can eat," Gunwoo faked surprise. "I keep thinking you're a flower."

Yoojin choked on her burger. She had a face and hair and a body; what part of her looked like a flower? Okay, she knew he was flirting but she was getting quite put off by him. The time seemed to drag on forever, but she let him ramble about himself. At least then she didn't have to struggle with thinking of what to reply. She was usually talkative, but this guy seemed to be special and make her speechless – not in a good way.

"I need to go to the bathroom. I'll be back, gorgeous," the boy said before disappearing.

Yoojin let out a sigh. Then her phone vibrated with a message, and she checked it. Huiyeon was asking how it was going and if she was surviving. Yoojin just ignored her. She was definitely going to scold the girl on Monday. As much as Yoojin wanted to flee, she couldn't find it in herself to do so.

"I'm back," Gunwoo announced as he sat down. "Should we go to a club now? I know someone who works at a good place."

"Um, I'm a bit tired now," Yoojin said, which wasn't a lie.

"No worries. We can go another time."

"I'm sorry, I don't like clubs." Again, not a lie.

"How about karaoke next time?" Gunwoo persisted, clearly not taking a hint.

A few metres away, Wooyoung internally groaned. He was clenching his fists, trying not to march over there right now. Yoojin took a sip of her drink.

"I'm really busy with school, work and the academy," she added.

Not a lie.

Gunwoo leaned back in his chair with a sigh. "I get it. I'm not your style, right? Don't worry, you're not my style either."

He finished off his fries and stood up. Yoojin followed suit, thanking him for the day. As they exited the building, her heart jumped with joy.

"If you ever wanna hang again, message me and I'll be there," Gunwoo winked.

Then, the stylish boy walked off. Yoojin was frozen, tilting her head and blinking at his retreating figure. She shrugged and finally headed in the opposite direction to go home. At the entrance to McDonald's, Wooyoung watched her leave, satisfied with how the date went.

When Yoojin returned home, she got a text from Wooyoung asking if she was free tomorrow. She replied back that she wasn't since she had a full shift at the café.

On Monday, Yoojin gave Huiyeon an earful. The other girl just laughed, clearly not threatened.

"Did you know he was like this?" Yoojin asked after her lecture.

"I don't know. I don't have a very good memory," Huiyeon grinned.

Wooyoung glared at her. They were crowded around Yoojin's desk in their classroom; luckily, they were all together. When the bell rang for the start of school, students rushed to their seats. Wooyoung was next to Yoojin, but Huiyeon was on the other side of the classroom at the front, where the boys got to drool at her beauty.

The teacher, a middle-aged lady, came in and the day started like normal. While they were struggling with the maths equations, Wooyoung subtly passed a small piece of paper to Yoojin, who was by the window seat. She unfolded the paper.

'Are you free after school?' it read.

She scribbled on it and snuck it back to the sender.

'No, I have work.'

It came back to Yoojin asking about Tuesday. She relayed the message that she had to go to the art academy. Once again, he asked about Wednesday. Yoojin glanced at him, and he simply raised his eyebrows. Shaking her head slightly, she put down her schedule for the rest of the week. Her most available day was Saturday again.

The final note passed back was folded in the shape of a heart.

'Then meet me at the tteokbokki place at 12pm on Saturday.'

Yoojin turned to him, but he was already stuck in his textbook. She watched how his soft lips pursed in thought and how his dark eyes pierced into the page.

"Yoojin," the teacher called. "Can you answer this one?"

The girl's head snapped to the front, heat rushing to her cheeks. She nodded and slowly started working out the question on the board. She thanked her genes for a good brain. Satisfied, the teacher moved on. Yoojin glanced at Wooyoung, who was smirking at her. She glared at him, and he faced the front again.
