True to his word, Youngbin told Sieun the next day that Sooho was in the hospital. That day was also the day of their finals for the first semester. Sieun had been worried the whole week when Sooho never turned up to school and he couldn't reach the boy. Not to mention, Beomseok was missing, and it was later revealed that he moved to America.
Now, Sieun felt broken to see his best friend lying in hospital, just like he had. But Sooho's condition was worse. Sieun gritted his teeth in fury. He should've been there with him; he should've done something.
Seeing red, Sieun stormed into Youngbin and Yoojin's school, heading into the first big, white building. He slammed open all the classroom doors, searching for Youngbin until he found him. It was all the bullies' fault. They played with fire but now, Sieun was going to put their fire out forever.
"How could you, you bastard," Sieun hissed as he stalked up to Youngbin and grabbed him by the collar.
Sieun's eyes were dark and blank. Youngbin held up his hands.
"I didn't do anything," he protested. "Hey, I told you about him. I'm sorry I didn't stop it, but it was Beomseok who did it."
"That doesn't make you any better," Sieun growled before punching him in the face.
Youngbin fell back against a desk. All the students in the class gasped and moved away, whispers already spreading about the crazy boy. Since it was break time, there was no teacher in sight and only a few students were grouped in the room.
"Where's the other guy? The boxer that Beomseok hired?" Sieun demanded.
Youngbin hesitated. Wooyoung was still his friend but maybe he deserved Sieun's wrath. And even though Sieun looked unstable right now, surely Wooyoung could still beat him. No, Youngbin wouldn't betray his twin.
Like déjà vu, Sieun swiped a book from a nearby desk and swung it across Youngbin's head. Then he kicked him in the stomach. The boy fell to the floor, knocking into the chairs and desks that scattered to the side. Youngbin let those attacks hit him, but he was tired of it now. Clutching his stomach, he braced himself for the next ones.
"He's probably in the exercise room! If it's Wooyoung you're looking for," a small girl blurted out from the side of the room.
The student, like the others, was scared of this stranger and wanted him out of their classroom. She was just trying to save her classmate and she didn't care for Wooyoung, a boy from another class who she knew beat people up for money.
Sieun took one last look at Youngbin before leaving. Youngbin groaned and stumbled to sit in a chair; he'd leave Wooyoung to deal with it.
Soon, Sieun made it to the exercise room, which was small and had various work out equipment. In the middle, Wooyoung was using one of the machines for his well-toned body. When he saw Sieun enter, he got up. He knew he promised Yoojin he wouldn't beat people up for no reason, but anyone could tell that Sieun didn't come for a talk, and he wouldn't leave without a fight. Wooyoung was simply going to defend himself.
Indeed, Sieun didn't talk. He threw the first punch. Using his quick thinking and tricks, he bashed Wooyoung with the different equipment and dumbbells. Wooyoung tried his best with his experience and strength, but it wasn't doing too much good. His body felt like it was being hit by rocks from every direction. He punched Sieun as much as he could.
At the same time, Yoojin was studying at her desk when Huiyeon came rushing into her classroom.
"Yoojin! Did you hear? Some random guy from another school punched Youngbin and went looking for Wooyoung," Huiyeon alerted her urgently.
Yoojin furrowed her eyebrows. Who? Of course, there was only one person who would get revenge like that – Sieun. The girl shot up and ran out into the corridor, not replying to her friend. Her first destination was the exercise room, where Wooyoung liked to spend some of his time. She burst in to find herself correct. Luckily, it was close by.
The sight shocked her once again. Her breath caught in her throat. Sieun and Wooyoung were wrestling in the middle of the room, blood marking every limb and even spotted on some of the dumbbells. They were both in pain with cuts and bruises. When it came to Wooyoung though, Yoojin didn't hesitate.
"Stop! Sieun!" she yelled as she ran forward.
Sieun glanced her way for a split second before aiming another punch at Wooyoung, who roughly dodged.
"He tried to kill Sooho!" Sieun shouted back. "How can you defend him? Sooho liked you. Don't you care for him too?"
"Of course, I do. But it wasn't Wooyoung! It was Beomseok and the other guys," Yoojin retaliated. "Control yourself. Don't let revenge consume you and destroy everyone. Stop trying to hurt everyone. It's enough."
Sieun faltered, being reminded of Sooho. The girl was standing next to them now and trying to pull Sieun off Wooyoung. He shook her off, but she tried again. Yoojin wasn't giving up, not for Wooyoung. With all her might, she ripped Sieun away.
Bang. Out of reflex, Sieun had whacked her hard and she fell back, her head hitting the metal stand that held the dumbbells. She squeezed her eyes tightly. It felt like someone had smashed her head with a hammer. Yoojin couldn't hear anything at all, and tears were aching to come out automatically.
"Yoojin!" Wooyoung shouted, but the girl couldn't focus on anything.
Seeing the girl that he loved being hurt, Wooyoung was on fire. He clenched his fist and breathed hard before launching himself at Sieun, throwing jab after jab at him. Wooyoung had never felt angrier before. His eyes were the devil's.
While they fought, Yoojin shakily reached her hand to the back of her head. She could feel liquid and when she saw the blood sticking to her fingers, she couldn't breathe. The world seemed to be glaring white. Then, the cries from the boys carried her attention to the battle. She had to stop them, but she couldn't move. A tear ran down her cheek.
Wooyoung had damaged Sieun well, but the other boy was just as persistent. Of course, Sieun felt bad about hurting Yoojin, but he couldn't stop now. He had gone too far, and he needed to defend himself. Sieun gritted his teeth and kicked Wooyoung into the weightlifting machine. Then, he grabbed a resistance band from the rack and wrapped it around Wooyoung's neck, pulling it tight. Wooyoung coughed, trying to breathe whilst throwing the small boy off balance. When Sieun knew he reached the breaking point, he let go.
The underdog had won. Wooyoung collapsed to the ground, his whole body aching. He heaved to get more oxygen and wiped the blood around his mouth. As Sieun was walking out, he paused in the doorway to look down at Yoojin, frowning with mixed emotions. He didn't know about her relationship with Wooyoung, and he was mad. Was she dating the boy who beat up Sooho? Despite that, he felt guilty; he knew that she didn't deserve any of this and he couldn't bring himself to face her again later.
"I'm sorry, Yoojin," Sieun apologised. "I really am."
Yoojin just looked at him sadly, guilt filling her up too. Then he turned away and left, taking the dark aura with him. The girl let out a shaky breath, searching for Wooyoung. He was lying on his back hardly a few metres away, but she couldn't reach him. She stretched out her arm, wanting to make sure he was alright. Wooyoung painfully turned his head to meet eyes with Yoojin. He tried to steady his breathing.
"Are you okay?" Wooyoung slowly puffed out.
"Are you okay?" Yoojin asked back.
Even though they weren't together, she still loved him. And of course, it was natural to worry about her long-time best friend. Though she didn't know what hurt more right now – her head or the sight of Wooyoung in so much pain. She just wanted to hug him and make him feel better, but she couldn't.
"I asked you first," Wooyoung managed to say.
He tried to smile but winced when pain shot to his mouth. Another tear escaped Yoojin's eyes. Their life seemed to be a tragedy with comedy only mocking them.
"I'm fine. I'm more worried about you," Yoojin said.
Her head was still spinning, and she had to take a break. She closed her eyes for a few seconds, blocking out the sun that pierced through the windows.
"Hey," Wooyoung cried. "Stay with me. Don't pass out. Someone will come soon."
Yoojin nodded, her eyes now open. Wooyoung started to slowly inch towards her. When he was within touching distance, he reached out and held her hand loosely. The gentle and soft touch made Yoojin feel better. Wooyoung cleared his throat, getting ready to call for help; his legs were still in deep pain.
Before he could make a sound, a student ran into the room. It was Huiyeon with her wavy brown hair flying from the speed. Her eyes looked down and widened as she shrieked.
"Yoojin! Wooyoung!" she shouted. "Are you guys okay?"
She crouched down next to them, her hands shaking without knowing what to do.
"Help! Somebody get the nurse!" Huiyeon shouted over her shoulder.
Two students passing by peeked in and immediately gasped. The blood, bodies on the floor and the mess of the room was frightening. They quickly got to action though and raced for the school nurse.
Huiyeon had never seen someone so injured before and she had never had to help someone this wounded. She swallowed and tried putting her hand under Yoojin's head to stop the bleeding.
"Help Wooyoung – he's in more pain," Yoojin urged her friend.
"I don't know how," Huiyeon was flustered but she obeyed and moved to Wooyoung.
"No. Help Yoojin. You can't help me right now. Stop the blood from her wound," Wooyoung instructed firmly.
Huiyeon nodded too much and did what she was doing previously. Yoojin didn't have the strength to protest. It was true though; Wooyoung's injuries were mainly internal and would require a doctor.
Thankfully, the nurse finally arrived with other students. Things were a rush as she quickly called the ambulance and had the two students carried to the nurse's office. The lady bandaged them up and did what she could until the ambulance got there. Yoojin wouldn't let go of Wooyoung's hand the whole time but when they had to go into the ambulance, she sadly let go.
At the hospital though, Yoojin was just relieved that he would be able to get better soon. The two students were treated and hours later, they fell asleep in the hospital room that they shared by themselves.
