~Serenity Tsukiyomi~

10 years have passed since I took Zero Kiryu to the Hunter's Association. Things really haven't changed a bit. I spend most of my time cooped in the castle, doing nothing but studying and training. But tomorrow evening is the night I reveal myself as the Tsukiyomi family's representative. The evening that the entire vampire race finds out that I am alive, including Kaname... I've seen pictures of him through the newspapers. He has grown to be very handsome. It's one of the reasons I haven't gotten over him.

I'm sure he's forgotten about me. It's been 10 years and he didn't even try to come and find me. He'd rather be with his precious Yuuki.

Ugh, why am I still thinking about him?! Right now, I need to focus on this stupid paperwork.

I then continued doing my paperwork, signing papers here and there.

"Se-ren-i-ty!" Rina said, barging in my room.

Rina Shiraishi is the princess of the neighboring Kaze Kingdom and my best friend. I forgot to mention that she and the other Level S vampires from the other 3 kingdoms know of my existence.

"Rina! It's been awhile! What brings you here this evening?" I said happily.

"Well, of course you do know me and the others are staying here for the day! Tomorrow evening is the big night! The night when the 5 of us will be publicly announced as our kingdom's representatives! Even though we became representatives at 14, we finally are going to be able to leave our respective kingdoms now that we are the age!"

"Yeah, I know... But in my case... It's different. Everyone thinks I'm dead." I said as I turned my chair around, looking out the window.

"But hey... You might see Kaname at the ceremony."

"Highly doubt it. After that night I "died," he never showed his face again. That alone shows that he doesn't care."

"What if he was looking for you that night, but couldn't find you? And hate to burst your bubble, but you didn't bother looking for him either. You just stayed there in that residence waiting for him. If you had left searching for him, maybe you guys would have found each other."

"I tried searching for him. You know that we can sense other vampires from very far distances. I didn't sense him near me. And the Kiryu residence was not too far from the Hunter's Association. This empire is even located near that residence since those siblings found me near there. He didn't even bother looking for me..."

"Kaname might have tried looking for you. He might have just-"

I then forced a smile on myself.

"Let's change the subject now shall we? Let's go fetch some miso soup!" I said, changing the subject, standing from my desk; taking Rina's hand and exiting my room.

"Serenity, are you okay? The windows in your room slightly cracked."

"Just....just don't mention Kaname. I feel such a pain in my heart every time I'm reminded of him. Let's just not talk about him and talk about tomorrow evening's ceremony while indulging ourselves with a delicious bowl of miso soup!" I said, forcing a smile on my face.

Who knows... Maybe by now, Kaname must gave gotten engaged to Yuuki and are currently living a happy life together. He probably even forgot about me... Anyways, I have to move on as well...

"Kimura, can you please go to the kitchen and tell the chefs to make two bowls of miso soup?" I asked my butler politely.

"Right away." He responded with a bow.

".....and also. Can you give this to Zero Kiryu?" I asked, handing him the letter.

"A letter?"

"Yes. I would like him to attend the ceremony tomorrow. He does know I am alive, anyways."

"All right then. Make sure he gets this as soon as possible."

"At once, my lady."

"Kimura!" Father called out.

"Emperor! How can I help you, sir?"

"Give this to Kaname Kuran when you can. I left him an invitation and his wedding ring." Father stated, handing him a small box.

"Wedding ring?" I stated, confused.

"Yes. I have yours as well." He said, handing me a beautiful diamond ring.

"Dad, Kaname has already forgotten about me."

"No. He hasn't. It may seem like he did, but he did not." He stated confidently.

"Excuse me, Serenity-sama? I'll be going to go make your miso soup. After that I go to Cross Academy and hand them these things."

I nodded my head. "Yes, thank you."

Kimura stepped out of the room with the items that were given to him.

Dad then handed me the box. "Serenity, Kaname hasn't-"

I took the ring and put it on my finger. "I'm only doing this for publicity. I don't want the citizens to think that they don't have a future Emperor. I have no intention of remarrying." I stated, walking out with Rina.

"Serenity..." Rina stated in a worried tone.

"Let's not talk about this..." I stated.

We then made our way outside to the castle's gardens filled with beautiful flowers. The place where I spent some of my childhood, playing alone and building flower crowns while Rido was my protector. The both of us sat at the fountain looking to the distance where it showed the town below.

"The Sora Empire is so pretty. It's like the moon reflects beautifully on the fountain. And the lights of the town are so beautiful from here." Rina said, looking excitedly at the town.

"Kaze Kingdom is pretty as well! It's a kingdom in a beautiful forest filled with greenery!" I said cheerfully, stretching my arms.

Then a flashback from the past comes back to me.

Kaname and I were in the castle's garden, and small flakes of snow began to fall from the sky.

"It's so beautiful!" I said happily.

"It is, isn't it? But we should go inside, or you'll catch cold."

I laughed and fell on the ground, looking up to the sky as the snowflakes fell from the cloudy sky.

"We're vampires, Kaname! We aren't going to get sick! Come on, join me!"

"Sit up for a second." He told me.

"Okay?" I said at a loss for words.

I then felt him putting his jacket on me.

"I would be rather be the one freezing cold than you, Serenity-denka."

"Kaname... But I don't want you to freeze either!"

"I'll be alright." He said in his usual, gentle voice.

I then laid back down in the grass, Kaname then doing the same. I rested my head on his shoulder.

"You're so warm, Kaname-sama..." I said softly.

"Serenity-denka, you needn't add honorifics like that to my name..." He said, putting his arms around me.

"It's okay... I want to call you this. When we are alone, I'll call you Kaname-sama, and you can just call me Serenity." I said with a smile.

Kaname sighed. "You win. I'll try. But just know that it's going to take a while for me to get used to this." He said with a laugh.

"Good!" I said cheerfully.

What is this strange feeling in my heart? It can't be love, can't it? I mean... He's been my protector for only about a few months. No.. it cannot be love. Maybe it's just attachment for being near him so much. But one thing is for sure. I want to be near him all the time...

~end of flashback~

I sighed. "Well, shall we get inside? I'm pretty sure the miso soup is ready by now and the others should be here soon." I stated, walking in front of her.

If I ever come to see him again, I'll act cold towards him. I don't want to get in the way of his life ever again. I want him to be free from me...

I don't want him to be chained to this destiny of serving me and being my husband for life... I love him. I love him so much, that sometimes I just want to keep him locked up in a room and have him all to myself. But I know that is cruel. I know that I have to hold back, because I know that as the representative of the Sora Empire, I will have to meet him again...

"This garden, it reminds you of him, right? You do realize that once you become the representative of the Sora Empire, you will have attend meetings and such in which he will be present?"

"I realize that. I will act the same as I have always been for these past ten years. I'm no longer that little eight-year old little girl that once was stuck to him. I'm taking responsibility. As the princess and heiress to the Sora Empire."

"Serenity..." Rina said in a sad tone.

"Let's end this conversation here. Let's go!" I said smiling, taking Rina's hand and making our way back into the castle.

~Kaname Kuran~

I looked out the window as the sun began to set. Well, it is almost time for class. I should be getting down there. I got my books from my desk, and as I was about to make my way to the door, I heard a knock on the door.

"Kaname-sama, are you there?" Aido called from outside my study.

"Yes, come in."

Aido stepped in carrying a small box in his hand.

"This is for you. Some man wearing a cloak told me to give it to you as soon as possible."

I looked at the box with a look of confusion, I opened it and my eyes widened at the sight of what was within it.

~play the music~

It's a golden ring... This is supposed to be the ring that I wear, since I'm still married to Serenity. I never had the intention to divorce her. I don't understand why I never did it... She is gone from existence.

The image of Serenity's innocent smiling face comes to my mind again.

Kaname-sama!

Her innocent and gentle voice continues to echo in my head. I don't know if it is something that continues to haunt me or it is something that comforts me.

"Thank you, Aido. You may go back downstairs."

"Yes, Kaname-sama." He answered, exiting the room.

I then noticed that there a note attached to the box.

Serenity may be gone, but I still want to give this to you. You did your duty well and protected my daughter. I'm sure if she were still alive, Serenity would be eternally grateful to you. I would like you to come to the upcoming ceremony in the Sora Empire as a representative of the Kuran family. Also, please do not think I bear any anger towards you. Like I stated previously, you did your duty well. I'll expect to see you here tomorrow evening.

-Eiji Tsukiyomi

I raised an eyebrow after reading the letter. It is, after all an order from the Tsukiyomi family. Despite attempting to distance myself from them for ten years, it seems that they actually thought what had happened to me throughout these years.

After Serenity's death, I shut myself out and became the person that I am today. The only person that I act like myself towards is Yuuki. She is the most important person to me and I don't want Yuuki to go through the same thing that Serenity went through. If something happened to Yuuki, then I would go out of control.

I put the ring in one of the drawers in my desk, took my books and made my way out from my room going down the stairs.

Down there was the Night Class, waiting for me to come down.

"Good evening, Kaname-sama." The Night Class stated in unison.

"Good evening, everyone. Shall we make our way to the gates?" I stated.

~Zero Kiryu~

Ugh, these Day Class girls won't give it up. Waiting for these beasts in human form to come out from their little den.

"All right! Stay back, stay back!" Yuuki ordered with both her arms out, keeping the girls back. However, with me the girls knew to keep their distance, since half of them are scared to basically step one foot ahead of me.

The gate opened, revealing the beasts that were walking out.

"Hello ladies! Did you miss me?~" Aido said in his usually flirty tone.

"Yes, we did!" They all said in unison.

Then in the back, I saw Kuran.

I hate him with such a passion. First of all he's a pureblood vampire, the same race that attacked and killed my family. And second, he abandoned Serenity. He left her behind, and she waited for him for a time. She looked out the window every single day, but he never came for her. That's the main reason I stabbed him that night when I first met him.

~Flashback~

We were setting up the table for dinner while Yuuki had gone to open the door for someone that was at the door.

"Kaname-sama, this way, this way!" She said cheerfully.

Kaname? Wasn't that the name of Serenity Tsukiyomi's husband?

I then saw him. He looks exactly like the one when I saw the wedding picture that Serenity had showed me.

"You...what is a Pureblood vampire doing here?!" I asked Kaien Cross.

Because of him... Serenity changed! When she left, I didn't see any of that radiance that she had when I first met her. This asshole is responsible for everything!

I took a knife and attempted to stab him, but I just ended up stabbing him in his wrist, but obviously since I didn't get his heart, I ended up dropping it on the ground.

"Zero, stop it!" Yuuki ordered.

My eyes widened.

"What is this world becoming of? We can never coexist with those beasts in human form!" I said angrily, making my way out of the room.

This guy is the so called Pureblood that was married into the Tsukiyomi family? I didn't see one look of concern on his face about Serenity. It's like he's completely forgotten about her...

I hate him.... I'll hate him for as long as I live. Not only because he is a Pureblood... But also because he hurt the feelings of the only vampire girl I was able to be myself towards... The girl that saved me that night when that woman attacked us.

Kuran Kaname...

~end of flashback~

"Kiryu-kun, are you doing well?"

Kuran's despicable voice got me out from my thoughts. I did nothing but glare at him.

"You take care." He smirked, continuing to make his way to the school building with the rest of the Night Class, who was glaring at me from a distance.

I looked over and saw him having a conversation with Yuuki, who had ended up falling on the ground because of the Day Class girls that she was attempting to hold back.

"Thank you for your hard work. However, be careful, Yuuki." He said with a smile, putting his hand on her head.

"N-no problem! And I will!" Yuuki stuttered, putting her hand on her head.

He then continued walking.

I wonder... How is Serenity doing? I haven't seen or heard from her in ten years...

Will I see you again?

Who knows, maybe you will, maybe you won't....

Those final words that she spoke to me still stay in my head to this day...

"Ne, Zero! Are you spacing out again?" Yuuki stated, playfully smacking my back.

I sighed.

"Leave me be for now, Yuuki. I'm just not in the mood."

I then felt the painful thirst in my throat for blood. Dammit...not now. Not in front of Yuuki.

"Zero... Are you alright?"

"Leave."

"What? NO, I can't just leave you-"

"Go!" I said in a loud, stern voice.

Yuuki then looked a bit worried, as she was stepping back slowly and running back somewhere else.

"Are you Zero Kiryu?" A man's voice whispered.

I turned around, and there was a man wearing hiding himself in a cloak. I then pointed Bloody Rose at him. He's a Level C vampire...

"What do you want?"

"I'm not here to threaten you. I have a letter from Her Highness Princess Serenity Airi Tsukiyomi Kuran. It is addressed to you."

"How do you-"

"I am Kimura, her personal butler. She told me that you know of her existence, so she told me to pass this over to you." He said, bringing down his hood, revealing his face.

"A letter?" I asked.

"Yes. You see, there is a ceremony for the new representatives tomorrow evening, and she wants you to be there. It's been four years since she last saw you and she wishes to catch up with you."

"She's going to reveal herself?"

"Why, of course. She is the only heiress left to the throne of the Sora Empire and the only one that can serve as the representative. Her grandmother Reina-sama has grown a bit tired and is soon to fall into rest. Well, I must take my leave before Kaname-sama senses my presence. Take care, Zero-sama."

"Oi, you don't have to-"

"You are a very close friend of Serenity-sama. I must."

"Did you just say Serenity?" A familiar voice called from behind.

I turned around, only to find Kuran who was standing against a tree.

"K-Kaname-sama..."

"It has been far too long, Kimura. Now, tell me. How are you acquainted with Kiryu-kun? " He asked curiously.

"Nothing! I was just asked by the royal family to deliver a message to him."

"I see....And Kiryu-kun, what relationship did you have with Serenity-denka?"

"That is none of your business. It's not like you care, anyways."

I then looked over to a tree, which had a hole. Oh, did I hit a nerve? I smirked.

"Serenity-denka was someone that was very special to me. I was her protector.....and her husband. I think I have a right to know what your relationship was with her."

"Heh. She's dead. Why do you even care? It looks like to me that you don't care about her at all. Never once did I see you making visits to the Sora Empire."

"Shut up..." He whispered angrily.

"Oh, did I piss you off, Kuran-senpai?"

He put his hands around my neck, while I immediately pointed Bloody Rose on his forehead.

"You want to kill me now? Go ahead. Because once I do, I'll kill you..." I stated.

"Both of you, please calm yourselves! Serenity-sama wouldn't like seeing her husband and close friend fighting like this."

Kuran slowly put his hands away from my neck and I slowly put down Bloody Rose.

I need to come up with some excuse. I can't tell him that I found an unconscious Serenity on that night...

"I just met her in town one time, and she wanted to be friends. I spent time with her and we just continued meeting each other. Is there a problem with me being close to her?"

"Oh no, not at all. It is just that I never recall Serenity-denka ever meeting you. I have always been by her side throughout all that time and the name Zero Kiryu never once was made familiar to me." He said with a smirk.

Damn you, Kuran. You are perceptive...

"It was once. After that, I never saw her again. It was a day when you weren't there and Serenity escaped from the castle."

He raised an eyebrow.

"I see...Well then, I will take my leave. I'll see you at the Sora Empire, Kiryu-kun." He said, turning around and making his way back to the academy.

When Kuran got further, Kimura whispered.

"Kaname-sama really cares about her, even if it does not seem like it. Serenity-sama's disappearance actually really hurt him deeply. He spent days and nights searching for her after the Kuran residence was attacked. I'm actually surprised he wasn't able to find her at the Kiryu residence."

"The Kiryu residence was secluded, and a bit hard to find. I'm surprised she actually managed to find it." I stated.

"Hard to find, huh...Maybe since it was the home of a vampire hunter family. I think Kaname-sama didn't even think to look there because of that fact. He did not expect Serenity-sama to be in a place like that." Kimura stated.

"Tch... I'm going back on patrol. You should be on your way back to the Sora Empire. Serenity might be worrying about you."

"Yeah, I should be. Take care, Zero-sama. I'll see you tomorrow at the ceremony." Kimura stated with a bow, then putting his hood back on, disappearing into the darkness.

"If Serenity shows herself again, what will Kuran think when he finds out the truth about the relationship between Serenity and I? The fact that she was at the Kiryu residence with Ichiru and I that time when the Sora Empire was attacked by Rido Kuran and his Level E's."

~Kaname Kuran~

As I was walking back to the Night Class dorms, Serenity's face comes to my mind once again. I did not believe a word that Kiryu-kun said. He has a such a special relationship with Serenity-denka, that the royal family went up to the point of inviting him to the ceremony tomorrow? There just has to be more to their relationship.

I sighed and thought back to the words to Serenity's final words.

"Kaname.... I truly... I truly, genuinely, love you..."

What she said... was it true? Or did she just say that because she loved me as her protector? I always had a connection to Serenity-denka ever since I was young. I don't know if it's because her blood from our blood bond continues to flow within my body, or if it is truly my feelings. But I also cannot deny that I have feelings for Yuuki as well.

I put my hand on my neck on where she bit me that day we got married. When I touched it, I felt a faint glow on my neck and noticed that her mark, which was a pink sakura flower, still existed on me.

"How is it still there? If the partner dies, then the blood bond is broken. Could she have fallen to rest, then? Is she sleeping in a coffin? No, that cannot be. It was said that she died. But she was stabbed, and then fell off the cliff. Her wounds could have healed and she could have just disappeared..."

I feel so guilty just quitting searching for her... But then Rido was going to attack the Kuran residence, I had no choice but to stop and go back home to save Yuuki...

I stopped and looked up to the crescent moon in the sky.

"Serenity-denka...."
