Chapter 2

A/N: Real quick, I actually didn't know orphanages in america basically didn't exist anymore. Now they're called group homes so it's still going to be called Sunshine Orphanage, but I will be referring to it as a group home from now on.

"Umm... I would like an order of two dozen variety cupcakes", I spoke to the lady behind the counter of the quaint little cafe. I took off my sunglasses pinning them to my shirt, then paid the money. The small little cafe was very convenient as I was driving down the highway to go the group home, so I decided to make a stop and get some treats for the kids.

As I waited for the large order, I thought about the orphanage down the street waiting for my arrival. When I was on the phone with my mom yesterday discussing the plans for the group home event, she told me that they want me to tell my story of how I got to be the CEO of the company and how I achieved my dreams. Which I thought would be pretty easy.

I also donated some school supplies to the group home, contrary to popular belief, I love to donate. It's really no problem to donate this stuff, I do like donating to different charities often, so I find it fun and heart-warming to give back.

"Sawyer", they called my last name, letting me know that my order was ready. I picked up the two boxes of variety cupcakes and exited out of the shop, ready for a full day of "Fun" as my mom called it.

...

I pulled up in a small car,one of my many vehicles, to the Sunshine Orphanage. I could already see small children running around and the bigger kids chasing after them. It was really a cute scene.

A little girl with red hair in pigtails and a bright yellow dress with a floral pattern ran past my car. Followed by a little boy who were both laughing and giggling as they chased each other. I sighed, smiling a little, actually thinking I might enjoy this.

The group home was a simple two story medium house. It was made of mostly red bricks but had greyish white pillars. A long driveway split the yard into two equal sections. There was two small trees on both sides of the yard, both trees being really pretty shades of orange and red.

As I stepped out the car, the fresh, slightly windy, fall air hit me. Making my way up to the house, I was immediately swarmed by kids and questions.

Now I'm not very good with kids, not at all, so this was a little awkward for me.

"Mister, Mister. Are those cupquakes for us?" A kid no older than five and missing his two front teeth asked.

"Who are you Mister?", Another girl asked as I made my way up the path, trying not to drop the cupcakes with kids surrounding me.

"Alright that's enough kids, go play", Ms. Wildenburg saved me as she came out of the house breaking up the group of kids. And just like that, all the kids were back to being happy-go-lucky and carefree in their own little worlds.

"Sorry 'bout that, they get excited when we get new visiters, it's not everyday someone comes in. And brings cupcakes for that matter", we both chuckled at that, making our way inside. I took a good look around, seeing as it was a living room with tile floors and toys everywhere to our left, there were also little desks for the children to sit in. Straight ahead there were two ways to go, a staircase, which I assumed led to the bedrooms, and a hallway leading to the kitchen.

"Oh, we're so glad you could make it. It was so generous of you to bring the kids cupcakes and for donating school supplies. Now thanks to you we can afford to send all the children to school", her smile lit up her face as she spoke and her brown eyes twinkled.

"It was no problem, I honestly wanted to do it", I said truthfully.

I could hear loud music coming from upstairs, must be the teens, I thought to myself, shaking my head.

"Do you want to visit some of the kids?", she questioned as we walked back outside.

"Of course".

So for a little while we both walked around playing with some of the kids and having conversations about random things like spaceships and unicorns with them. Ms. Wildenburg left, when she felt I was getting the hang of things, to go and start dinner. Now i was having a six year old pull me around and show me a tour around the house.

"Hey, Lizzie", Another girl around the same age came from the living room.

"Hey Izzabella"

"Is that," she tried to whisper the last part, but of course I could hear them. I mean, Lizzie was still holding my hand, I wasn't that far away,"Your boyfriend?!", she whisper yelled the last part, making me chuckle.

She stuck her chin up, marching past Izzabella,"Yes, and I'm taking him on a tour, now leave us be", she said leading us upstairs.

"I don't think I remember you asking me to be your boyfriend", I chuckled, slowing us a down a bit from her fast pace.

"I know, but I told her I had a boyfriend. Please don't tell.", she whined a little, stopping on the stairs to look at me with puppy eyes.

I zipped my lips, "Your secret's safe with me"

We finished climbing the stairs, making the music seeming a lot louder. To my surprise, it was classical music, not something most teens would listen too.

"This is where all the bedrooms are! The teenagers like to stay up here!", Isabella basically shouted to me as we walked down the hall where the music kept getting louder.

"Who's playing ther-", I cut myself off as we walked by an open door.

The door where the music was coming from.

The door with the music and the beautiful boy.

The boy had beautiful brown skin with short black hair on his head and slight chubby cheeks. He was wearing a cozy beige sweater, falling to make sweater paws as he touched his desk.

"Who's that?!", I questioned, looking down at her.

"Oh that's Andrew, he's kind of weird thou-", I cut her off.

"Lizzie! Don't say that, he's right there", I whisper shouted to her.

"What, it's not like he can hear me", just then the other caregiver, Sarah, came to tell us dinner was ready.

As we were leaving, I caught one last glance at the beautiful boy, seeing he finally noticed us and was looking up at me with wide brown eyes.

And I couldn't get those wide brown eyes out of head.

...

Dinner was about to be started with the mysterious boy nowhere in sight, making me frown a little. As one of the little kids said grace, I could hear the chair next to me pull out and someone sit in it. Once grace was over, I lifted my head, automatically moving it to the side to see who it was. And lets just say, I truly was blessed, because Andrew was sitting beside me, staring at his food and eating.

I started to dig in to the spaghetti, thinking of how to make conversation. He looked no older than seventeen, making me think he's getting closer to leaving this place.

"Hello", I said hoping to get the boy's attention, but surprisingly I got everyone's attention but the boy. Sarah nudged him a little, making me confused.

Until, she started moving her hands like an expert. Making me confused at first, until it dawned on me.

She was using a language. Sign Language, to be more exact. Sign language to Andrew.

Now everything started to come together; the loud music, how he wouldn't hear what I'm saying, how he didn't see us until we started leaving, why he was touching the desk. Andrew is deaf.

Andrew is deaf.

I was snapped back into reality when Andrew turned to me with a huge smile plastered on his beautiful face, signing something I couldn't understand.

"He says hello, and he likes your hair", she giggled at the end of the sentence. By now everyone had gone back to their own conversations, and it was just me, Andrew, and Sarah.

"We'll tell him I said 'thank you and I like your bracelets'", I told Sarah sitting across from us. Andrew was wearing bright neon rubber bracelets with words like Happy and peace on them.

Andrew looked back to Sarah as she signed to him. Before he answered again he took a long bite of his spaghetti, then started signing to Sarah.

She started speaking as he went,"Thanks. I got the purple one from Nanny", she pointed to herself, signaling she's nanny, "And I got the yellow one from George, and the pink one from Lizzie. I love them so much, I never take them off."

And for the rest of dinner we went into conversation about his many bracelets and how he really wants a green one. And I made it my mission, that next time I come back, I'm getting him a green one.

...

Once dinner was over, I told them my story and answered some questions, all the while Sarah was signing next to me. After that we passed out the cupcakes to excited teenagers and kids. Once I made it to Andrew's table, Andrew got really excited, practically bouncing out of his seat with excitement.

"Which one do you want Andrew?", I smiled holding the box out for him to choose. Once Sarah signed to him, he pointed to the one with the lady bug and surprisingly a sound exited his mouth.

"LaaAYY BBbUuu", he said jumping up and down in his seat, surprising me. His voice was perfect. The perfect combination of soft and rough from barely using it. A small thing in my heart fluttered.

I picked out the lady bug one and gave it to him. "He really loves lady bugs, they're his favorite animal", Sarah said next to me as we watched him dig into his cupcake, getting most of the icing on his face, making us giggle.

Andrew started signing furiously to Sarah, after he finished his cupcake of course, smiling excitedly. Sarah then signed back nodding her head and Andrew got up.

I couldn't stop my curiosity and myself from asking,"Where are you guys going?", trying not to sound too curious.

"Oh, Andrew wants to go to the park, so I'm taking him", she said grabbing her jacket.

"Can I come?", I ask a little too quickly, then added in,"You know since I'm about to leave anyway?"

"Yeah, the more, the merrier, right?".

So after Andrew got ready, I said bye to all the children and promised to see them again, then we headed out. We walked down the street for a little until we came up on a crosswalk to cross the street, leading to the park. Sarah held her hand out for Andrew to hold, making me a little confused because, he should be old enough to cross the street by himself. More shockingly he slapped her hand away and signed something to her, then grabbed my hand, making me tense, but relax slightly after.

Then we waited there for, one minute, in complete silence, holding hands, waiting for the walking man to pop up. Andrew's hands were soft, way soft compared to my rough ones. Right then and there I decided that our hands were like two puzzle pieces, only made for each other to hold. I looked down seeing black and white clashing together beautifully.

After we crossed the road to get to the park, Andrew ran off like a kid in a candy store, heading straight to the slides. Me and Sarah sat down on a bench nearby and watched Andrew play.

Sarah spoke out into our silence,"I know what your thinking. You think Andrew is a little childish for his age, which may be true to some, but Andrew is perfect for us. Andrew may have autism but he doesn't know and I don't think we're going to tell him. He'll just be really confused, for right now we just let him express himself", that last fact shocked me a little, but I already had my suspicions earlier.

"When did Andrew learn how to say words?", I questioned, curiosity getting the best of me.

"Well, he learned lady bug when he was eight and that's pretty much the only thing he can say. But he will start making noises if he wants attention, like right now." We both looked over to see Andrew on the swings looking mad and making angry noises that were complete gibberish. We made our way over to him with Sarah signing, I'm guessing, "What's wrong?".

Sarah then filled in for me,"He says he wants you to push him on the swing".

So that's what I did, I pushed Andrew on the swing making him giggle weirdly, but the good kind of weird, the kind of weird you want to hear for the rest of your life.

And for the rest of our afternoon, I pushed Andrew on the swing listening to him giggle weirdly. And maybe I even swung a little, giggling weirdly myself.

And maybe I liked the two of us giggling weirdly together as the sun began to set.

....

Guys i used kendrick Lamar as Andrew's character cause' my brother always listens to him. And I wanted to go outside the box and use a black character with hair. If your agaisnt me using kendrick lamar as the main character plse leave. if you dont want a black character plse leave and don't leave racist comments in the comment section plse. I was inspired to use a black character from this upcoming movie called "Moonlight".

Anyways, i also felt strongly about using kendrick lamar as the main character in this bxb story because litterally nobody in that fandom has kendrick lamar bxb books. so yeah

word count:2,181- getting better
