Chapter Seven- Getting Closer

I felt good when my friends met Bradley. I haven't seen Bradley, Mila, and Henry since we all went to the bar a few days ago. What Mila said about Bradley being evil and how she doesn't like his energy stuck with me. I kept thinking about it. When I'm with Bradley, I don't feel any evil in him, I feel happy, and I'm going to ignore Mila. All of us have been busy with work since. Bradley and I finally agreed to meet up at the park again. He told me he had a surprise for me. After I got off work, I got ready again to meet Bradley.

I got to the park where we have been meeting for the last few weeks. I walked over to the picnic tables, where I saw Bradley with his back facing me. He was wearing a black leather bike jacket, ripped black jeans, and black boots. I noticed he was smoking another cigarette. "Hey, Bradley!" I called out loudly. "Hey," He said, turning around and tossing his cigarette on the ground. He then crushed the cigarette and blew the smoke out, and started walking toward me.

He walked up really close to me and kissed me again. I turned around in embarrassment. "What's wrong? Do you not like it?" He asked. "It's not that. I'm confused. You keep kissing me, but we aren't dating." I explained. "I can stop. You want to date me?" He asked me. "Bradley," I blushed. "Why do we always meet here?" I asked.

"What's wrong with meeting here?" He asked. I didn't answer because I didn't know what to say. "Let's meet at the bar," I said. "Why do want to meet at the bar If you know I don't drink, Heather?" He asked, putting his hand on the side of my face. "It will be something new," I said. "Why don't you drink?" I asked once again. "You sure are nosy, aren't you?" He said with his hand still on my face. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that," I spoke softly. "I think it's hot," He whispered.

He then stepped away from me and took a deep breath. "I used to be an alcoholic. I haven't had a drink in years. It made me a bad person. My wife was terrified of me." He explained. I didn't expect to hear that from Bradley. He seemed like a calm person. I didn't know what to say. I thought it would be best to keep quiet, but I didn't say anything.

"I want to take you to a restaurant. It's not going to be fancy, because I'm low on money." He explained. "That's fine," I replied. We started walking to the parking lot. I thought we were going to drive in mine, but Bradley walked to his car. I will be honest, Bradley didn't have the greatest car, but I didn't mind.

When I got in his car, It smelt like weed and cigarettes. The car was messy, with soda bottles and fast food wrappers on the seat. Before I got in the car, he wiped the trash off the seat and, made me a spot to sit. "I'm sorry for the mess, I don't eat or drink the healthiest." He explained. "It's fine. I don't judge people like that. You should see Mila and Henry's car. Their car is a mess." I explained. We then started driving. I didn't feel like going out anymore and I wanted to go home. "Bradley?" I asked. "What's wrong, Heather?" He asked. "I'm not trying to be mean, but I want to go home," I told him.

"That's fine. If you don't want to, I can drop you off so you can get your car." He explained. "No, not that. I want you to come with me." I explained.

"Oh, okay. Anyway, I want you to stay the night if you want, you don't have to." I explained. "Yeah, that's fine," He spoke. I then told him the way to my apartment.

We got to the apartment and went inside. "Make yourself a home," I said walking, Into the kitchen. I looked in the fridge and didn't find anything I liked. I walked back into the kitchen, where Bradley was. He was standing there, looking around. "Bradley?" I asked him. He then turned around. "Should I just order pizza?" I asked him. "Yeah, that's fine," He replied. "What flavor?" I asked him. "Any flavor you want," He replied.

"Okay," I replied. I ordered the pizza, and we sat down on the couch. He looked around my apartment in silence. "Are you okay?" I asked. "Yeah," He replied. I felt tired, I leaned up against Bradley's shoulder. He jumped a little. "What's wrong? Is this too much?" I asked. "No, It's fine. Are you comfortable around me? You're not scared of me, are you?" He asked. "No, why would I be scared of you?" I asked. He didn't reply.

We then got startled when we heard a knock at the door. I got up to answer the door. I opened the door and the pizza guy told me the price. I turned around to get my purse, and Bradley wasn't on the couch anymore. He was nowhere in sight. I grabbed my purse and paid the pizza guy. Once we left, I set the pizza down on my coffee table and walked around the corner to the hallway. Bradley then left the bathroom. "Where were you?" I asked him. "In the bathroom," He replied. I then walked toward the living room.

We ate pizza on the couch and talked. "Are you sure you want me here?" He asked. "Yeah, why wouldn't I?" I asked him. He then took a deep breath. "You want me to stay? Where do you want to sleep?" He asked. "Anywhere you want. You can go home if you want." I said. "Okay," He replied. I leaned against his shoulder again. He slumped back and lay on the couch.

"Is this too much?" I asked. "No," He replied. I was laying my head against his chest. I could feel his heart beating and his breathing. I closed my eyes and drifted off. "Tell me about yourself," I said. I lay beside him on the couch facing him.

He put his hand on my face. "You're beautiful, Heather." He said kissing my forehead. "Didn't I tell you I work in construction?" He asked. "I don't remember," I replied. "What's your middle name?" I asked him curiously. Bradley looked around the room as if he were looking for something to say. "Robert. What's yours?" He asked. "Rebecca," I replied. "Do you have any family?" He asked. "Yes, I have an older brother and I have a niece," I told him.

"I have an older brother as well, but he and my family don't live in the united states." He explained. "I wish I didn't have to work so much. I only work so much because I live here. The rent is so high here I have to work more than I have to." I explained. "Why don't you move?" He asked. "I haven't thought about that," I replied. "It's getting late. You can sleep on the couch if you want," I said,'[ getting up. "I figured you want your own space," I said, walking to the room. "Heather, wait." He spoke softly. "Goodnight," I smiled and walked away to my room.
