Chapter Three
"I swear, I'm going to fucking kill you!" I seethed out as I pushed myself up on the hospital bed I was on.
He chuckled dryly, swinging his blades through the air. I could basically feel the metallicity in the air, it was horrible. "Yeah, g-good luck with t-that, b-bitch."
He moved antagonizing-ly slowly towards the bed and climbed on top of it. My mind started going into some bad places and I smirked as I waited for him to be just above me, even with his hatchet blade above my heart.
"Kinky..." I mumbled, the smirk now widening into a grin, even though I was pretty much near death in this situation.
He huffed and pressed down my head to keep me from moving as he pushed the blade into my chest. I groaned and started screaming through the pain after the blade had sunken deep enough. I'm pretty sure he'd locked the door because there was banging outside and nobody could seem to get in.
An adrenaline rush seemed to take over me as I pushed my arms up, barely feeling the sharp pains in my chest, and pushing the boy (man?) off of me. He fell to the floor and I yanked out the cords in my arm and swung my legs over the left of the bed, crouching down and looking for anything to use against him.
I grabbed one of the cords and tore it from whatever machine it was attached to. But then I remembered. I have powers.
I tried to concentrate with all my might on the boy, but whatever he'd put inside me was preventing me from seeing through his eyes.
"Damn it," I mumbled, turning my head to the floor. And suddenly I was crashing to the ground, a massive weight on top of me and forces pushing my chest against the floor, the weight right on top of the wound.
"Get the FUCK OFF ME!" I roared as I pushed on him again. My outburst must've surprised him because he fell off me again, and I scrambled up. I forced myself to stand and ran right toward the direction of the door, unlocking it and running out into the bunch of people who were pounding against the door.
"Get me somewhere and don't let anyone in or I swear I will... I will kill you..." My voice started out quite loud, but my adrenaline rush ended and my voice gave out, and I'm talking to the floor.
Everything after that was in a daze. I'd been slipping in and out of consciousness. I was on the floor one moment with arms picking me up and guns clicking, the next moment I was on a similar bed to the one before but I'd been rolling with frantic voices around me, then I'd been lying on a bed, something wrapped tightly around my chest, new cords in my arms, and I didn't feel as grimy as I had, what felt like, moments ago.
My chest felt small and I couldn't breathe properly. I couldn't get a dull breath. I brought my right arm to my chest and lay my hand against it, feeling whatever underneath my shirt.
"Oh good, you're awake." I immediately jumped. This voice was feminine.
"What's so good about that?" My voice croaked. "Is it only you in here?" My head turned towards her general direction, which was to my left.
"Well, what's good about that is that means you're doing decently, and yes. I am the only one in here," She answers. I sigh in relief. "And the door is locked as well, since that's what you wanted."
What was he doing now? That boy? Since this was a hospital, he was probably in jail right now because of the panic.
"Where is he?" I asked after a while.
"Who?" The girl responded, moving over to me slowly, as not to spook me.
"The boy. Where is he?" I turned my head towards the ceiling, wishing for once in my life that something would go right.
"Oh, the person who attacked you?" She responded. Her voice was kind of low pitched, but it stood right between high and low. It was a strange mix.
I nodded.
"He got taken away, but from what I've heard, he killed the driver and the others and he escaped. No one knows where he's at now." Her voice faded out.
I thought about that for a moment. If no one knew where he was, than he could still be on the hospital. And if he was in the hospital, he could be anywhere.
"I need to get out of here." I quickly replied. I pushed myself up on my bed and groaned whenever something pulled on my chest. "It's not safe for me or you. Or anyone."
"I'm sorry, but you've got to stay here for a while." She started getting panicky, I could hear it in her voice. She put her hand on my arm to try and calm me down, but I pushed her away.
"Listen," I seethed through clenched teeth as I gripped the girls arm. "I need to get out of here. Give me whatever medication I need for whatever is wrong with me, and get. Me. Out."
I could feel her hesitation and her fear through my touch. I shook her arm. "If you don't get me out of here, he's going to find me, and he's going to kill everyone in his way."
"Okay, okay. I'll get you out of here. Just... stay quiet, okay? I'll see if I can convince my dad to get you out." She said.
"What do you mean, your dad? Is he the leader of this place?" I still sounded pissed, and I guess you could say I really was.
"He's the president of the hospital. Let me call him real fast." She said. "Can you let go of my arm? You're really freaking me out." I let go of her arm and placed it back by my side.
I heard her get something out, which I was assuming her phone, and clicked something. I heard it ringing.
"Dad? Yeah, it's me. I have... a little situation." She said to her phone. She paused for a moment.
"Umm... so, you know that boy that had that huge wound in his chest? Well, he says that he needs to get out of here."
Another pause.
"He said that the man who escaped is going to come back and probably kill the majority of us. Dad, I'm... I'm scared."
I heard someone reassuring her and telling her to get me my medication and get me out of there immediately.
"Alright, I can do that. Do you want me to get him a wheelchair?" She asked.
"No. I need to keep my strength. I don't need a wheelchair, I need to know that I'm capable of walking." I replied instantly. She looked at me as if I was insane.
"He said he doesn't need a wheelchair. Yeah, I know, but he said he doesn't need one." She speaks into the phone, her voice getting kind of defensive.
"Dad, I swear. We need to get him out of here. His wandering eyes are already enough to freak me out." As she says that, I can feel her stare. I look over at her and I basically feel her shudder.
"Okay, yeah, I get it. I'll be safe, well, as safe as I can be with a wanted person, right? Love you dad, bye." And then she hung up.
"Okay... I'm going to remove the IV from your arm and all the extras, Mkay?" I hummed in response and she took out whatever was in my arm.
"Now get me out of here as fast as you can. Once I'm out of the door, go back to your usual place and leave me be. Don't yell after me." I tell her as she helps me stand. She brings my arm around her shoulder and helps me out.
"Where are we now?" I ask. I was panting slightly. The pain in my chest radiated throughout the whole of my chest.
"We're going to get your medication, than we're out of here. Okay?" She replies.
"Yeah, okay. Find it fast. I can't afford to wait." I swivel my head around, trying to see if I even have a hint of my power, but I can't detect anyone around me.
The girl beside me drops my arm and I lean against a wall beside me. I hear a door click open, but not shut. It must stay open. I remember Ryan telling me that some doors open and close automatically and others don't. This world is so strange.
"Are you done yet?" I semi-yelled out. I didn't get an answer immediately and my stomach went into knots.
"Yeah, hold on! DAMN it, why won't this DAMN cabinet open?" The girl replied. I heard metal hitting metal, and I assumed she was trying to pull the cabinet open.
"Do you need me to help-" I started to offer.
"No no no! Stay out there, your stitches will pull open of you help me." She interrupts me. "Shit, I forgot they were on the shelves..." She murmurs.
I hear some things clinging gently against each other before her footsteps make their way toward me.
"Alright. Let's get moving, big guy. Here's your meds," She hands me some kind of capsule and I put it in my pocket. "Take two pills once you wake up, two at the hottest point of the day, and two before you go to bed." She tells me.
I hummed in response, but it was cut short whenever the slight stench of metallic hit me.
"Oh shit." I mumbled. "Is he here?" I said louder, but only loud enough for the girl next to me to hear.
"I don't think so. The alarm would've gone off. Why?" She replied. We turned to the right.
"Just... just a feeling." I lied. That wasn't really a lie, but it was half of the truth.
"Oh. Alright." She replied sheepishly. That metallic smell went behind us and the sweet smell of nature greeted me. I sighed. Something slid open in front of us, we continued walking, and something else opened.
"This is my leave." I turned my head to the girl. "Don't follow me, don't yell after me, don't even mention me whenever I'm not around. If you get killed," she sucked in a sharp breath. "That's my fault and I'll be there for your funeral. It's the least I can do. What's your name?"
"Umm, Maria Thunder." She replied.
"I'm Elian. Now- oh shit." She fell to the ground, something sticking itself into her chest.
"Whoa whoa whoa, hey, can you hear me?" She didn't answer me as I eased her to the ground and grabbed her phone.
I got up and I started getting the sense of my surroundings. I could feel the trees and the grass under my feet. I could feel the boy somewhere but I couldn't sense Maria.
I started running and clicking her phone open. I click the bottom left of the screen, click near the top middle, and near the top. I hear the phone ringing and I put it up to my ear.
"President Thunder, how can I assist?" A deep but firm voice rumbles across the phone.
"Sir, I'm so sorry..." I reply. I couldn't get tears to spring from my eyes, but I made my voice shaky to act like it. In truth, I was terrified because this boy kept finding me and killing whoever was around me.
"Sorry? Who is this?" His voice gets defensive.
"This is... this is Elian. Your daughter helped me out of the hospital. I'm... I'm so sorry." I shake my head as I run. The boy behind me was laughing and screaming out death threats. He may hold up to his promise.
"But you're blind. How did you get my number?" His voice waivers. He knows what happened.
"I'm using her phone and running. I'll attend her funeral, I'm so sorry but I have to go." Before he could reply, I hang up and put the phone in my pocket. It was particularly useless because I only knew how to call Maria's dad, and that was about it.
I could feel the presidents frantic mind up in the top of the hospital.
I can't use words to express how sorry I am.
I didn't mean for this to happen.
