Chapter 39: Mina
"How do I look?" I asked Momo, my best friend, and personal assassin.
Momo rolled her eyes. "Mina, you look good as always, and can you relax? You are making me anxious,"
"How can I relax when I'm seeing my future husband today? I must look my best. Grandfather said I need to snatch him up before someone else does. My grandfather would be disappointed otherwise." I said while checking myself in the hand mirror I had her holding.
She closed the mirror and placed it inside my purse. "You can't keep following behind what your grandfather says. He has lived his life already, and now you need to live yours."
"I know what you're saying, but he is the only family I have on my side after my parents turned their backs on me."
"I know that and know you only follow what he says for what he has done for you. But you need to open your eyes and smell the coffee. The King doesn't want you, and even if miraculously did, you're your heart will always belong to Ma-"
"Don't."
"Come on, Mina, it's been four years, and you still can't talk about your first love without getting emotional. Stop fooling yourself."
"I said don't. I left him without giving him a proper goodbye, and I haven't been in contact with him since. He probably hates me and moved on with his life."
She scoffed. "Are we talking about the same guy? The same guy who stood by your side through thick and thin, showered you with love, made you feel like the only girl in the world, and vowed his heart would only belong to you for all eternity? Are we talking about that guy? And don't even get me started on you."
"We were teenagers. We didn't know what we were saying back then. It would be a lie to say I don't miss him or think about him often. It would be a lie to say I don't love him even until this day. It would be a lie to say I want to hear his voice and be in his embrace again. But life has a funny way of taking what you want and wiping its ass with it."
She looked at me apologetically. "Well, if you keep frowning like that, you will crease your makeup which would be atrocious yet hilarious, if I might add."
I glared at her. "Are you even my friend?"
"Of course not," she said jokingly.
I playfully hit her arm. "I freaking hate you."
"Ask me if I care?"
"Do you..." she cut me off.
"Hell no!" she exclaimed. I hit her again while she just laughed.
Sana, Momo's cousin, back hugged her. "You two fighting again, I see. Are you sure you two are friends?"
Momo looked over her shoulder and smugly responded, "Like I told her, of course, we're not friends. I'm only here for the benefits."
I laughed and tried to hit her again. "You little-" she moved out of my reach.
She put her hands up in surrender. "I'm kidding, and you can't kill me because you love me too much. Who else would do your dirty deeds?"
"Your right. What would I do without you?" I said, batting my eyelashes.
She laughed. "Unnecessarily panic 24/7."
"Oh, give me a break."
Our attention was averted to the host. "Good evening, ladies, gents, Princesses, Princes, and assassins. The moment of truth is here. The Crimson Clan has finally arrived, and this time they have brought along some exceptional guests. One might even say our future Queen is among the mix."
I was devastated hearing this. What would my grandfather have to say about this?
Everyone went silent and geared their attention towards the big golden doors at the top of the stairs. On both sides of the doors stood guards waiting for their instructions.
Tzuyu stood next to me and said, "I wonder who the special guests are?"
I looked at her and said, "We will have to get rid of whoever they are. I can't afford to let my grandfather down." the guards opened the doors. Everything around me froze the sight before pissing me off beyond words. I angrily turned toward Momo. "Who is that slut clinging on to King?"
"How the hell am I supposed to know that when it's my first time seeing her too," she whispered back.
I rolled my eyes. "Well, find out."
"Ughh, whatever, you're not the only one upset about what you're seeing. Sana, Jeongyeon, come with me." She glanced at the girl clinging onto Jungkook, vowing to have a private "talk" with her before the night was over.
Suddenly, my grandfather was standing next to me. "Several hurdles are in our way. What are you going to do to rectify this?"
"Get rid of them by any means."
"Do you think it will be that easy? Think before you act, do you understand?"
"Yes, sir."
"Good, then I have nothing to worry about. Don't let me down, Mina."
"Yes, grandfather." He nodded his head before disappearing into the crowd.
I took deep breaths. I can't let my grandfather down. "How about we go introduce ourselves, girls."
Everyone made way like the royalty we are, but I couldn't help but overhear a group of women talking at one of the tables. I looked over to see no one other than the Phantom Killers. Ahn Hwasa, Moon Moonbyul, Jung Wheein, and Kim Solar. They are a female group of four brilliant assassins specializing in hocus-pocus attacks. Sleight of hand tricks. They've mastered the ability to manipulate and deceive their enemies with the slightest influence. But, as simple as it may sound, it is tough to do.
"I wonder who those girls are, especially the girl on the arm of our dear Mafia King," Wheein asked.
Moonbyul hummed, "She must be someone special to him. I heard King arranged for her and her group of friends to arrive in matching Rolls Royce Limos."
"Poor Mina, everyone knows how obsessed her grandfather is for her to be with King. Ultimate power is everything to them." Solar said sarcastically.
Hwasa chuckled. "Don't feel sorry for her. She's such a bitch. Imagine if she were to become Queen, we would all be doomed, but I guess it doesn't matter now. He never gave her the time of day to begin with. Now she definitely doesn't stand a chance of getting his attention."
I was furious. How dare they mock me behind my back. I walked up to them, "And why is that?"
Solar crossed her arms pleasantly, "Oh, look who we have here, little miss Mina and her little minions. I assume you heard the wonderful news. Our lovely King has found his Queen and thank heavens it turns out not to be you." Solar was pleased
I got in her face. "Do you want to repeat that?"
Solar didn't budge, "You heard me. Anyways, much luck to you girls and your non-existing love life. Now, if you excuse me, my man is waiting for me." they walked away laughing.
"We'll see who will have the last laugh," I mumbled.
Cute Couple
The butterflies in my stomach went crazy. We slowly leaned in for the fateful kiss but were interrupted by someone clearing their throat. "Umm don't mean to interrupt the lovely moment but can you two do this later? We have a business to attend to." Seokjin said with his arm around Jisoo's waist.
This time I was the one annoyed. "I swear if one more person ruins our moment, they will pay for it with their life, "I muttered.
Yoongi chuckled. "Calm down, princess, don't let these peasants ruin our moment."
Seokjin scoffed. "You do know we can hear you, right? How dare you call me a peasant. Hello, have you seen this face?" he said while dramatically pointing at himself.
Yoongi blankly looked at him and took out his gun. "Kitten would like to do the honors."
I took the gun and cocked it. "Now, what were you saying, my dear Seokjin?" I asked, smirking evilly at him.
He nervously chuckled. "Shall we go in? We can't keep the people waiting," he said before quickly walking away.
"Yeah, why would you give her a gun?" Jisoo yelled, "and you, how dare you scare my man like that," she pointed at me.
I aimed the gun towards her "Did you just yell at my King and me?"
She gulped and then looked at her empty wrist. "Hmm, would you look at that? It's about time for me to run for my life. I'm too pretty to die." Then, like her boyfriend, she quickly walked away.
San pushed the gun down, laughing. "Sis, you are so evil. Did you really have to scare them like that?"
I frowned and gave the gun back to Yoongi. "They shouldn't have pissed me off."
He placed his index finger on the forehead of my mask. I can tell you're frowning. Calm down. You look too beautiful to waste this night being angry."
I relaxed. San always knows how to make me smile. "You're looking very handsome, my little prince," I said while smoothing out his suit jacket. Yoongi loudly cleared his throat to get my attention. "Don't tell me your jealous of my little brother."
He looked away. "Of course not. Let's just go inside."
"Aww, there's nothing to be jealous about," I said teasingly.
He hugged me and whined, "I said I wasn't jealous, kitten."
"Okay, okay, fine, whatever you say, cutie."
"You two are too cute to handle." Lisa squealed.
We laughed at her outburst while going inside the building, unaware of the crowd of people who had been watching us in awe since we arrived.
