*Chapter Three*
"Good evening, ladies and gentleman" Esther says from the upper level gaining the attention of everyone on the main floor. "Waiters are coming around with champagne. I invite you all to join me in raising a glass. It provides me with no greater joy then to see my family back together as one. I'd like to thank you all for being part of this spectacular evening." Esther raises her glass. "Cheers!"
The rest of the crowd raises their glasses before drinking. Finn's eyes slowly glance towards all his siblings watching as each one takes a sip of the champagne. His eyes then land on his brother, Klaus, and the woman standing beside him, Caroline.
Klaus smiles at her and raises his glass in her direction before drinking, his eyes never leaving hers. An annoyed yet jealous growl rumbles from his chest but he quickly pulls himself together. Why did it matter that Klaus was smiling at her? Why did it matter that they were standing so close? Finn couldn't understand why it mattered but for some reason, to him, it did.
Tearing his gaze away from them, he looks up to his mother. She raises an eyebrow at him. He then realizes that he had failed to drink the champagne. Sighing through his nose, he lift the glass to his lips. He drowns the contents in a single gulp. He mockingly raises the glass to her as if to prove it's emptiness. Her stare hardens not appreciating his attitude.
Lowering his glass he hands it to one of the servants. His eyes go back to Caroline. He find it increasingly difficult to keep his eyes off of her. However, her eyes rarely met his. She seemed far too occupied with his brother to even notice his existence.
His heart drops to his stomach when he watches Caroline slip away with his brother. He could feel his anger trying to consume him. The alcohol that he had consumed didn't help with his self control.
"Finn," Esther calls from the top of the steps before he could follow Caroline and Klaus. He stops and realizes what he had been planning on doing. His eyes widen slightly as he wonders what it is about Caroline that gives her so much power over him. "Finn," Esther says slowly. Reluctantly, Finn steps towards the stair case and joins her on the upper level.
When he stand in front of her, his eyes refuse to meet hers. He felt like a child standing in front of his disapproving mother. The last thing he wanted to do was disappoint her, to upset her. Yet he felt so out of control tonight and he couldn't fathom why. He thought Sage had control over him but whatever power Sage held doesn't hold a light to Caroline's.
"Go get cleaned up," Esther says gently not bothering to scold him. She could see how hard he is trying to keep himself together but not everyone is perfect. "Take some time to remind yourself what is at stake here," Wordlessly, Finn nods walking towards one of the bathrooms.
He walks inside and closes the door. He rests his hand on the counter before releasing a slow and heavy sigh. He lifts his head and looks into the mirror. He grips the counter to the point where it crumbles in his hands.
His eyes look down as he watches the crumble fall to the ground. He hardly feels phased. He simply reaches forward and turns on the water. He washes his hands before splashing some water onto his face.
"Just a little longer," He whispers to himself. Just a little longer until the pain ends.
After taking a few more moments to himself, he leaves the bathroom and returns to the party. His cool and collected exterior is back in place. He feels more determined to keep it in place. He knows he needs to avoid a certain blond seeing as she has this ability to break his act.
He hasn't returned to the party for more than a few minutes before he hears a thud outside. His siblings gather together and walk outside to see the two Salvatore's and the doppelganger standing near their brother, Kol, who's laying on the ground.
"Damon! Are you crazy?" Stefan hisses.
"Maybe a little," Damon shrugs. "Far be it from me to cause a problem" Damon says before leaving. Finn sighs looking at his younger brother lay in the dirt. Elijah is the one to move forward and bring him inside.
Finn stays outside for a moment longer. He breathes in the cool air finding it peaceful and relaxing. He stands out of the way as the guests slowly begin to leave to return home.
Knowing he needed to return to his mother so she could complete the spell, he turns to reenter the mansion. However, he pauses when he sees the blond he so desperately wished to avoid exit the mansion. She looked upset, annoyed. He had a sinking suspicion that it was due to Klaus. He didn't know what his brother had done but it only angered him further knowing he was the source to her annoyance.
Before he even realized what he was doing, he was walking in front of her path. She comes to a quick stop and goes to walk around him, not realizing it was him who moved in front of her. However, Finn didn't want her to go. His hand reaches out for hers. The moment their skins touch she realizes that it is him.
"Finn," She whispers looking up at him.
"You're far too beautiful to be frowning," Finn whispers. "The world deserves the light of your smile," He woos lifting her hand to his lips. "Please do not deprive us of such a pleasure," He whispers before kissing her knuckles. An effortless smile appears on her lips and a flush covers her cheeks.
Seeing the smile appear on her lips creates a sense of pride in his chest. He lowers her hand but doesn't let go just yet. His thumb gently glides over the smooth skin on her hand. His hand squeezes hers gently before he pulls away. He leaves her to her thoughts and reenters the house.
His eyes meet Klaus's. His brother had obviously not only seen but heard their little interaction. A cocky smirk appears on Finn's face as he walks past his jealous hybrid brother. The smirk refuses to leave his face as he jogs up the steps and to his mothers study where Elijah is speaking with her.
"No violence, that was all I asked" Esther sighs. Finn stays in the hallway not wanting to disrupt her. "Rebekah and Kol disgraced out family tonight"
"It won't happen again, Mother. I'll deal with them" Elijah promises.
"Thank you, Elijah," Esther says the relief evident in her voice. Finn frowns slightly feeling annoyed that Esther was putting trust in Elijah. "I wish the others were more like you," This statement only further annoyed him. Elijah walks out of the room and down the hall. He pauses by Finn, the two share a look of distrust before walking away from one another.
"Are we alright to speak freely?" Finn asks closing the door behind him, something Elijah had failed to do.
"Yes, the sage still burns" Esther assures him. Finn remains silent for a moment. He walks closer to his mother.
"You aren't having second thoughts, are you?" Finn asks her.
"Of course, not," Esther shakes her head before sighing. "It's just Elijah... He's so moral" Finn resist the urge to roll his eyes.
"You're doing the right thing, mother" He promises standing beside her.
"You understand what this means, don't you?" Esther asks looking at him. "This spell I'm casting tonight will bind you all together as one"
"I understand," Finn assures her. "When it is time... I will be ready to die" He says quietly.
"Then we must complete the link," Esther says determinedly. Finn hands her his hand. She cuts into it and spills the blood on the paper. He watches as the blood moves across the paper as she says the spell. "The link is complete, you are one,"
"Good," Finn says before leaving the room. Luckily, he's able to move from his mothers study to his room without running into any of his siblings.
He changes out of his suit and into move comfortable attire. A pair of sweatpants rests lowly on his hips. His upper half remains bare as he lays on top of the covers. He breathes slowly while staring at the ceiling. His left hand rests on his chest while his right cups the back of his head. His fingers lightly tap his chest as he falls into his thoughts.
