Chapter 4
300 Years Before Rimuru's Reincarnation
A century passed and Veldora found that he and Y/N had made absolutely no progress whatsoever. Whether it was because he kept chickening out of making moves or because he was so conscious of her that he couldn't even talk normally, he wasn't sure. All he knew was that he was frustrated with how much of a coward he was. She practically already stated her feelings (albeit not to him directly), so what more did he have to fear?
Y/N sighed in her (f/c) dragon form, watching as Veldora slightly glanced her way before stomping off into the forest without so much as a word to her. He had been acting like this for almost a whole century, though it had been quite subtle at first. Now, Y/N couldn't just pretend to not notice anymore.
It started with him avoiding eye contact. Y/N thought nothing of it except perhaps Veldora being his proud self as usual. Then it progressed to him avoiding her touch. Y/N had been horribly depressed when it first happened, but it fled her mind when he had shyly said something along the lines of allowing her to hold onto the sleeve of the great True Dragon of Jura Forest.
Now, however, there was no way to find any reason to his behavior. The male dragon had straight up started running away from her. He no longer pestered her about going to town and he seemed to always avoid her presence. It made things horribly suffocating and Y/N had started considering moving on. She took this as a rejection, and as much as it hurt her heart to think so, she wanted to move on as soon as possible to deter the pain in her dragon heart.
Y/N waited for days, hoping Veldora would have some sort of explanation for her as to why he was acting like he did. She loved the dragon to the point where she didn't want to think about leaving him, but she also didn't want to deal with the stinging in her hear.
Fed up, Y/N decided finally that today was the day she would confront him.
Veldora, she called, poking her head into the entrance of his cave in her large dragon form. His blue-hued figure was curled in a ball in the middle of the warm cavern.
As soon as her voice rang through the area, Veldora shot up from his position, his golden eyes immediately landing on the (f/c)-hued dragon.
Y/N.
Had Veldora been in his human mimic, his face would've been visibly flushed red. Thankfully, in his dragon form, it wasn't very obvious. His eyes flickered to the exit behind Y/N, his flight instinct triggering as he felt the familiar feeling of his heart pounding.
Veldora, can we talk? Y/N asked, her voice soft and her large dragon tail lightly curling around her back leg out of a slight bit of fear of rejection.
Now? Don't you know that a True Dragon like me is busy? Veldora panicked, his mind blanking as he allowed words to spew out. What was he saying? Both he and Y/N knew he wasn't busy. He's been bored for centuries on centuries until Y/N came. What was he saying?!
Y/N sighed, her reptilian orbs shifting to the floor as she dejectedly nodded. Yes, she knew Veldora wasn't actually busy, but what was she to do if he didn't want to talk to her?
Okay. She nodded. I just wanted to tell you that I'm planning on leaving the Jura Forest.
Veldora felt his blood drain. His golden eyes stared her down, his words stuck in his throat as he tried to process her words.
What? You're leaving?
Yes. Y/N didn't want to look at him. Her heart ached as she mentally told herself she had been rejected before she even confessed.
Why? I thought you were going to stay here with me.
Y/N hesitated. She had been planning to stay, but it was starting to seem like Veldora didn't like her and she didn't want to subject herself to constant heartache like this. She allowed herself to absorb the magicules, changing to her human mimic in hopes of being able to shield her expression with her hair. Her branching horns shimmered with a (f/c) hue, leaving Veldora to stare in admiration. He didn't see her horns all that often while she was mimicking the human form since she always had to hide them in town.
"Veldora... I don't get you."
"What do you mean?" Veldora quickly shifted to his human mimic as well, carefully approaching the woman with careful steps. He stood practically right in front of her, but she kept her face hidden behind her hair.
"Do you know what you've been doing to me, Veldora?" Y/N sighed in defeat. The male shook his head. "In case you haven't noticed, Veldora, I've fallen in love with you. But you've been avoiding me for almost a century now and I can't help but feel like this is your way of distancing yourself and rejecting me."
"Wait, Y/N," Veldora tried to interject. She shook her head, wanting to finish her own ramble first before he could say the words she dreaded to hear.
"I don't want to force my feelings upon you, Veldora. At first I got my hopes up, especially when you gave me that rose from the wedding. I might've been wrong to hope because you started this whole thing of avoiding my gaze and now even avoiding my presence when you can. My heart hurts Veldora. I can't and I won't sit here to let my heart bleed. I really do love you, but if you don't return the same feelings, I just need a break to cool myself down."
Veldora, in a blind panic, reached out and wrapped her into a hug. He told himself he was doing this to keep her from leaving. A physical restraint, he insisted.
"Veldora?" Y/N flushed as she froze. She was conflicted. She wanted to stay in his embrace, but she didn't want to fall deeper than she already was.
"Don't leave, Y/N," Veldora practically pleaded. There was a tone of vulnerability in his voice that he hadn't shown before. The proud dragon was baring his heart out of fear she would actually walk out and never return. "I love you Y/N. I want you to stay with me." His golden strands of hair tickled her neck as she waited for him to finish what he was saying. "I'm sorry for avoiding you... I didn't know what to do. A True Dragon falling in love? Unheard of. But I do love you, so please don't leave."
Y/N smiled, wrapping her arms around his torso as she leaned her head onto his shoulder. Veldora was too worried about her leaving still that he didn't even get flustered as he simply tightened his arms.
"I love you, Y/N," Veldora repeated.
"Say it again," Y/N said, snuggling further into his embrace.
"I-" Veldora cut himself off as he withdrew himself from her embrace and pushed her to arms length away. She was grinning from ear to ear and Veldora quickly became flustered once he realized what he had said.
"I-I mean," Veldora cleared his throat, looking away from the woman as his cheeks burned red. "A True Dragon like me is merciful and if you insist, I have no reason to turn down your affections."
Y/N giggled, cutting of the proud dragon as she pulled him back into a hug, snuggling her face into him as she smiled.
"Yeah, yeah. You can't lie to me anymore, Veldora." Y/N lifted her head, her (e/c) orbs shining as she stared into his golden eyes. "I love you, Veldora. Can you tell me again that you love me?"
Veldora's face was still flushed, but he couldn't help the smile that came across his face. He instinctively leaned toward her, placing a kiss on her forehead as he pulled her close.
"If you insist. I love you, Y/N."
~~~
Veldora had insisted that Y/N was begging him for a date in the town (Y/N hadn't said a single word about the town) and so now the two of them were casually walking through the forest toward the gates that led them into the human streets that were always lined with food and games. Y/N couldn't help herself as her gaze kept getting drawn to their intertwined hands. She had, in fact, actually been the one to insist on this one. Veldora had been bright red when she took her hand, but Y/N had opted not to comment on it so she could continue to enjoy the feeling of his palm pressed into hers.
In what felt like no time at all, the two dragons disguised as humans had made their way through the familiar path and ended at the large gates of the human town. As always, Y/N paid their entrance fee and the two made their way down the streets of the small town again.
THe male dragon had decided that he would take charge today, leading Y/N around the town with her hand locked firmly in his. His flushed cheeks had cooled significantly and he was now simply enjoying his time with her in the town. It was the same town they had been visiting, yet everything felt so different.
The two dragons spent their time playing in the town, buying food and playing those small games that made Veldora's eyes light up in childish amusement. Y/N loved it when Veldora would turn towards her with such a joyful smile. On the other hand, Veldora loved it when her beautiful (e/c) eyes would light up whenever their gazed locked.
A scream behind them cause the two dragons to turn in curiosity. It was a high-pitched scream and the crowd scattered as a man waved around a dagger as a threat to those around to let him go. In his hands was a coin purse, which both Veldora and Y/N assumed belonged to the lady who had screamed.
The thief's gaze met Y/N's, his frantic eyes telling her to move out of his way. Y/N stared back blankly. She wanted nothing to do with human affairs; after all, she and Veldora were just their to enjoy their time. However, she also felt no need to listen to the demands of a puny human such as him. He couldn't even put a scratch on her if he tried with his life on the line.
The thief's desperate eyes turned dark as he continued his path, barreling toward the two dragons who made no indication of moving aside. He readjusted the dagger in his hand, pointing it forward as he charged toward Y/N. If these stupid people weren't going to move, he was going to make them.
Y/N barely flinched as the dagger was aimed toward her. Without so much as a blink, she raised her arm, (f/c) scales momentarily appearing on her skin as the blade deflected off with a clang and the metallic blade shattered into pieces. Her (e/c) eyes hardened on the ignorant human who had been unlucky enough to pick a fight with her as he fell backwards, his hand still wrapped around the hilt of what had been a dagger just seconds ago as the bag he had stolen dropped to the ground.
Despite Y/N not having a single scratch on her from the encounter, Veldora was livid. He pushed the smaller woman behind him as his golden eyes flashed dangerously. He had wasted a century of what could've been the best century of his long, near-immortal life. Now that he was just starting to enjoy it, a small human dared to try to interrupt them?
"Veldora, I'm fine." Y/N attempted to appease, but he didn't seem to hear her. Black clouds of magicules began exuding from the dragon and Y/N quieted down with a small sigh. There was no way for her to calm him down at the moment, though to be honest, she'd rather he tear apart the human who had even attempted to scratch her. The black magicule cloud seemed to cover the entire plaza like ink, thickening by the second as Veldora's mimic struggled to hold together.
How dare you interrupt us?! Veldora raged as his mimic disintegrated completely and his true form emerged from the cloud of black magicules. His large wings flapped as he hovered over the human town, sending strong gusts of winds through the streets of the human town. The weak humans were thrown around mercilessly while Y/N stood in the streets unaffected as a wall of water protected her from the wind. From around her, the humans that had managed to hide behind something sturdy screamed in fear, pointing their fingers at the blue-hued dragon that had been in stories and legends as a destructive force to fear. If the dragon was ever to be spotted again, run.
Y/N sighed, rolling her eyes as she quickly disabled her concealment on her branching horns. They appeared like magic, the beautiful (f/c) hue shining through.
"M-Monster!" The human that had attempted to stab her stuttered. He had been close enough to her to avoid being blown away, much to her dismay. Y/N smiled, her sharp canines glinting dangerously as her eyes shifted into the reptilian slits.
Without so much as a word, Y/N allowed her human mimic to disappear, creating a second cloud of dense magicules before she reabsorbed it into her dragon form. Her (f/c) hued scales shimmered in the sun as she hovered right beside Veldora, her (e/c) reptilian eyes glaring down at the human male who had attempted the unthinkable.
You dare continue to speak in my presence?! Veldora yelled. He let out a loud roar, and, before Y/N could stop him, he let out a breath of fire. Y/N, being the more reasonable dragon between the two, quickly letting out a stream of water with her own abilities to drown out the flames.
Veldora, please. Y/N called. I'd appreciate you not be hunted down on our first date...
Veldora blushed and clammed up as he withdrew and stared at her like a lost puppy.
But he dared to attack you... Veldora's personality did a complete flip as he stared lovingly at Y/N. The adoration in his golden dragon eyes were clear and she felt her heart practically melt under their warmth. However, it was not the time to be flirting as now they had more than one issue on their hands, the most annoying to deal with being the fact that they had revealed themselves to be dragons. Y/N was sure the humans would be trying to assemble a force to take the two of them down.
Y/N focused her gaze on the human who was now trying to scramble away. He had been inches from the flames before Y/N had put them out, but luck was not on his side as Y/N wasn't as merciful as he had hoped. After all, Y/N was still a dragon at the end of the day. Taking the lives of these puny and short-lived humans was like stepping on ants.
She reached down with one of her sharp claws, pulling him by the collar of his shirt into the air as the man screamed at her to let him go. Y/N held him up between her and Veldora, the latter glaring at the human harshly as his tender gaze on the female dragon disappeared.
Weak Human, Y/N addressed with a rumble of her throat. Despite the dragon's mouth not opening, the human heard her loud and clear. Which would you prefer? Drowning or burning?
"Neither!" the guy flailed. "The knights will be here soon! They'll take you down!"
Impossible! Veldora rumbled. I am Veldora, a True Dragon who watches over the Jura Forest. To think mere humans could take me down, you must be out of your mind.
Out of rage, Veldora snatched the guy, holding him away from Y/N and simply roasted him. Y/N blinked calmly, her wings flapping steadily as Veldora disintegrated the human in less than half a second.
I believe we may have spent too long playing, Y/N said quietly as she watched the first knights to arrive at the scene start to make a wide circle around where the two dragons were hovering. They were all equipped with ranged weapons, some of them enhanced with abilities. It would be hard for them to take down a dragon with their weapons and two dragons was practically impossible, but it didn't mean that the two larger creatures wanted the hassle of having to bat off all their arrows. A little farther away, Y/N could see a human that was dressed differently. They had a white mask on with black accents and the figure was adorned with white armor that stood out from the rest of the knights.
Impudent beings! Veldora growled out. The knights surrounding them took aim, their arrows pointing more toward Veldora than toward Y/N. Her (e/c) eyes narrowed as she felt the familiar pressure build up in her chest. A blue hue lit up her (f/c) scales as she silently threatened the humans. She didn't necessarily like having to flood human cities, but there was no helping it if they were about to attack them. She'd give Veldora a scolding later, but she couldn't blame him all that much since he had been angered for her sake.
"Fire!" One of the humans yelled, pointing his hand up at the two dragons. Immediately, the knights released their arrows, but the human weapons didn't get very far. Annoyed, Veldora let out an arc of flames, painting half the town red as the wooden houses lit up with fires. On the other side, Y/N let out an endless stream of water, flooding the city as strong waves the height of three story buildings tore down houses and swept the knights away. The city was simply demolished in a sea of fire and water, steam erupting from the meeting place of the two elements.
A few of the knights who had even the slightly abilities had managed to escape the promised demise, hovering above the half-burned, half-sunken town. The two dragons refused to let up either onslaught, continuing to push away and remove as many knights as they possibly could.
The glint of a sword being thrown caught Y/N's sharp eye and Y/N roared as she used her tail to smack away the blade of a knight away from Veldora. Her reptilian (e/c) orbs narrowed on the human as she turned the almost violent stream of water toward the knight as her anger and annoyance at the humans rose exponentially. These persistent bugs. She didn't want to exterminate the entire town, but they were practically giving the two dragons no choice. The second they turned their back on the knights, they would probably be speared a thousand times. The remaining knights all had abilities and some of them were strong enough to pierce through even dragon scales.
The (f/c)-hued dragon looked to her lover who was continuing to bathe the town in fire, albeit the stream of flames to her seemed a bit weak for the proud dragon. Her water was now aimed at the knights in the air and thus the rubble in the half of the town that she had flooded slowly began to catch fire as the heat evaporated what water was left on the remains.
Y/N! Veldora called, sending an arc of fire her way. Y/N barely turned back in time to see that the masked human had shot toward her, only for them to be deflected by Veldora's wall of fire. The masked human deflected the flames without so much as a scratch and at that point, Y/N knew that this was a Hero.
Veldora. We should leave. Y/N tried to say, but the blue-hued dragon was enraged that the Hero had attacked her, so he insisted on fighting back. Nimbly, the Hero practically flew through the burning town, avoided and deflecting Veldora's attacks.
I am a True Dragon! Veldora roared. How dare you think you stand a chance with me?!
The Hero barely reacted to Veldora as the dragon got even more enraged. Veldora started putting even more power into his attacks, his orange flames turning blue and white from the heat. Y/N let him handle the pesky Hero and instead focused on the knights who still had their bows and swords raised.
When the heat of Veldora's flames subsided behind her, Y/N panicked. She spun around midair, feeling a foreboding aura of strength that struck fear into her. Her (e/c) locked with Veldora who was struggling against the Hero.
The Hero had a unique skill they had announced as [Absolute Severance] and Veldora's abilities were completely sealed. Panic rose up in Y/N and she turned her powerful stream of water against the Hero. It was a moment of desperation in seeing Veldora pinned behind a growing, shimmering wall of imprisonment, but she knew if Veldora, a [True Dragon], had been beaten, she as a regular dragon stood no chance. Despite this, she tried. The Hero seemed to understand where she came from as the human only defended themselves and didn't bother trying to return the attack.
"Calm yourself, dragon," the hero voiced finally. Y/N didn't let up her onslaught, her desperation to keep Veldora free surging through her as she let out another torrent of water.
How dare you try to restrain a dragon?! Y/N pushed herself to create an even stronger current, but the Hero didn't seem affected at all.
"Calm yourself, female dragon," the Hero repeated. "Your lover is fine."
You dare try to lock him up?! Y/N refused to give up, so the Hero had no choice. A sigh escaped their lips as Y/N was forcibly restrained by [Absolute Severance] and large chains from the surviving knights were thrown around her. Her figure was dragged to the ground, landing on the burnt out ashes of what used to be a human town. Don't you dare touch me. Release us!
The hero stared down the female dragon, and despite not standing a chance, Y/N glared back as best she could.
"We'll take them to the gated cavern to our north." The Hero gestured for the knights to handle the female while they dragged along Veldora who was trapped in their [Unlimited Imprisonment]. The male had been trying to break free, but it was to no avail, especially without his abilities.
With Y/N resisting the whole way, the Hero brought the two dragons into the cavern, waiting briefly for the knights to open the large door before bringing them deep into the cavern. Monsters didn't even bother appearing as the aura of Veldora alone was enough to ward them off. With the addition of Y/N and the Hero's powerful auras, monsters would've been suicidal to approach them.
The Hero finally picked a spot, setting Veldora up in a dead end as the knights practically just chained Y/N to the wall in her dragon form. Annoyed, Y/N attempted to snap at them, only to be stopped by the hero who calmly forced her to submit.
Without so much as a glance back, the Hero turned, taking the knights with them as they left the two dragon lovers separated by a wall of magic.
Question of the Chapter: What race would you chose to be in the Tensura world?
Hey hey hey!
I hope everyone has been doing well! This chapter is almost twice as long as the other chapters. I know I said I was keeping it short, but this was literally as short as I could make it since a lot of things happened this chapter...
My own answer to the question is... I'd actually love to be a dragon. I don't know... I've always loved dragons since they're always depicted as these powerful beings. Even if they're tiny, they're cute yet powerful, so I'd probably want to be a dragon...
What did y'all expect to be what led to Veldora burning down the town? Yes, I know Y/N and Veldora didn't actually kiss... I'm sorry but I also don't regret doing that one bit. <3 Again, this chapter is unedited, so feel free to point out any mistakes. I think next chapter is going to be the last chapter, but it might be quite long since it'll be set in the year of Rimuru's reincarnation.
Anyways, as always, let me know what you thought of this chapter! I love to hear y'all's feedback and it truly makes my day to see y'all enjoying my story <3
Stay safe and healthy,
ThePurpleDragon
