Chapter 2

500 Years Before Rimuru's Reincarnation

Veldora was bored yet again. A whole century had passed, yet there wasn't a single sighting of Y/N in the horizon. He had wanted to leave the small forest to seek her out, but he had accidentally incurred another bounty right before he planned to set out. It wasn't his fault that human towns were so flamable...

Regardless, Y/N had just disappeared somewhere. The male dragon wanted to curse himself for getting his hopes up that she would return. Who was he kidding? The world was so large and she clearly wasn't one to remain in one place for too long, unlike him. She had speed and maneuvers that could've only come from countless hours of flying.

It's been twenty years since I last demolished a human city... Should I go make a small trip?

Veldora rose from his cave, stretching his wings out and flapping them to shake off the lethargic feeling in him. Even raiding the human city and burning the outlying houses was getting a bit boring after so many centuries. He couldn't exactly leave the Jura Forest though. This was the farthest he could get from all of his siblings; no way would he risk going closer to one.

Lazily flapping his wings over to the nearest town, his golden eyes scanning the ground and sky. Those pesky humans were like ants that pooled out of their homes once the nest was disturbed, not that Veldora ever stopped messing with them. He considered it a consequence of quenching his boredom. Yet, the amount of enjoyment he was getting from burning down those stupidly flammable houses was slowly decreasing, so it was beginning to not really be worth the effort.

They literally just took down your damned bounty yesterday and you're already on your way to create trouble?

Veldora spun mid-air at the slightly familiar voice of the (f/c)-hued female dragon. She had somehow managed to sneak behind him, hovering at the same height as him. Her tone held a bit of amusement as her (e/c) eyes seemed to glimmer. Veldora glared at the female and huffed childishly, masking his excitement upon seeing the familiar dragon.

What else am I supposed to do? Near immortality isn't as fun as it seems when the world keeps doing the same things over and over.

Y/N nudged her head toward the forest floor, a silent invitation to tell Veldora to follow her. The male frowned, but complied and landed in a large clearing next to her.

What? He asked. She circled around him slightly, her (e/c) orbs trailing along his figure as if she was calculating something. Veldora blushed, and then quickly growled at her to hide it.

Calm down, she appeased. I'm just trying to get an idea of how easily it would be for you to create a human mimic.

A human mimic? Veldora's voice showed his disgust at the idea. Why would I want to become a human? They're like ants that die with just a small squish.

You said you were bored, right? Y/N used her wings to slap his playfully. I'll show you how to not be bored.

Veldora hesitated, the offer tempting him despite his initial aversion.

Will it really help my boredom?

Yes, yes. Y/N gave him an airy promise. Dragons live for so long that there's no reason for us to change how we live. But humans on the other hand only live for at most a hundred years. In our one lifetime, they could go through hundreds of generations, so things change a lot in their little towns.

Veldora huffed, giving in quickly to the prospect of having something to entertain the near immortal dragon.

So, what do I need to do?

Y/N bared her sharp teeth at him in a form of a triumphant grin.

Going from a naturally small form to something bigger is much easier, assuming that you had enough magicules to mimic the larger thing. However, the opposite isn't quite the same. Absorbing your standard magicules and storing it into a smaller body can be quite a pain. I was bedridden the first time I did it.

Veldora gave her a look that showed his absolute aversion to the idea of being sick. It rarely happened, but he remembered that it did just once in his hundreds of years living. He hated it so much since he felt so horrible and everything was boring.

I'm not doing it if I'm going to get sick afterwards.

Oh c'mon. Y/N gave him a small whack with her tail and he winced at the unexpected hit. It didn't hurt at all; it just surprised him.

No. Being sick is boring.

You won't be sick.

But you just said-

I know, I know. But I'll be teaching you how to do it. I've done it so many times I know the best way to contain your magicules without completely destroying yourself from the inside.

Veldora shivered at that idea. It was near impossible to destroy yourself from having excess magicules within, but the key word there was 'near.' Yes, it wasn't entirely impossible, and it seemed like Y/N had already danced with death a couple times by the way she said it.

Are you sure? Veldora asked suspiciously. He really didn't want to go through the trouble of dying.

Yes! Just trust me!

Y/N gave him her best pleading eyes, and Veldora found himself unable to resist the female dragon. Her (e/c), reptilian orbs sparkled slightly and Veldora found himself caving. Before he knew it he nodded his head toward those mesmerizing eyes and she let out a happy rumbling purr.

With Y/N's guidance and example, Veldora quickly grasped the concept of mimicking a human form. It was fairly easy, though he was still scared of the risk of imploding out of nowhere due to the extraordinarily large amounts of magicules stored in the tiny human body. His human form was quite to the confident dragon's liking. The body was incredibly toned with bright golden eyes and hair. Sharp canines made themselves known whenever he smiled. To his surprise however, his body wasn't covered at all. It was apparent that Y/N expected this as she had her back turned to the dragon and was holding out human clothing to him. It mostly consisted of what Veldora assumed were human pants, a standard white fabric top and a black cape.

"This isn't fair," Y/N complained slightly as he finished dressing and she turned around. Her (h/c) hair swished slightly around her (f/c) kimono as she childishly pouted.

"What isn't?" Veldora asked.

"You don't have horns." She pointed to the top of his head where he did indeed have a normal humanoid appearance (aside from the menacing and terror-seeking glint in his eyes). He looked to Y/N, who sported her familiar pair of branching horns and pointed ears. Her (e/c) eyes seemed to glow in the low light of the forest.

"Sucks to be inferior." Vedora let out a loud laugh as Y/N slapped his muscular arm in feigned annoyance. Her humanoid figure was smaller than his, her head barely reaching the bottom of his chin. Much like she was in dragon form, Y/N was still smaller than he was.

"Shut up and hide your aura. We should get going before they close the city gates."

"Let's just fly there," Veldora suggested as the two of them suppressed their auras. "Walking is boring, especially in human form."

Y/N gave Veldora a deadpan look as she rolled her eyes and ignored his comment. Instead, she threw on a black cloak not unlike his and simply began the walk toward the city. He huffed, following her despite his protests against walking like a human. A true dragon going less than 100 km an hour? Nonsense.

By the time they made it to the city gates, the town was painted in a bright orange as the sun shined down upon it at an angle. Street lamps were slowly lighting up, but despite the day heading slowly into night, the town remained alive and bustling. Veldora gazed upon it in a mix of awe and confusion. In dragon form, he could easily crush this entire street in one little walk through it, but he had never been eye level with the humans.

"Interesting, isn't it?" Y/N grinned as she brought out a little pouch. She handed the gate's guard a small coin, covering the entry cost for both her and Veldora.

"Psh. You wish," Veldora turned away, hiding the excitement in his golden orbs in favor of acting calm and unfazed.

"Sure sure," Y/N giggled. It was clear she didn't believe him in the slightest, but she decided to let it go to appease the dragon. "Anyways, it's all on me for our little city trip, so you can play to your heart's content." Y/N grinned at Veldora and shook her small pouch filled with various coins, from bronze to gold.

Veldora wanted to make a childish comeback as she clearly was teasing him through her (e/c) orbs about how fidgety he was getting just standing there, but she gave him no time as Y/N looped an arm around his and began pulling him to various windows that displayed anything from fabric shirts to jewels to small trinkets. He stumbled as she dragged him along, making a comment about how it was unfathomable that she would lay her hands on a true dragon like she did, but she only brushed it off and continued pulling him down the street.

Four hours later and with his arms full, Veldora followed the (h/c)-haired girl down the street. His mouth was stuffed with the sweet cloud they called cotton candy and he had various shiny trinkets he was excited to bring to his little cave of a home. It had been surprising - a nice surprise if Veldora dared to admit - that the human city had been alive well into the night. He was more than entertained by the tricks the humans came up with.

"Satisfied?" Y/N asked, her (e/c) eyes sparkling in amusement as she bit into her own skewer of roasted meat.

"No," Veldora childishly refused to admit. Y/N rolled her eyes.

"Say it again when you don't have cotton candy all around your mouth."

With a caring hand, Y/N fished out a tissue from a pocket she had hidden in her (f/c) kimono and reached over to Veldora. He panicked slightly, a blush taking over his face at the sudden and unexpected contact. Veldora drew back, avoiding her hand as she sighed.

"Veldora. Let me wipe off the food. Your hands are full and I don't want to be walking around with an adult child."

She gave him an expectant gaze, waiting for him to comply, which he eventually did. A slight pink color dusted his cheeks as he felt the gentle touch of the tissue on his face. He attributed it to embarrassment for being treated like a child.

"Can we go now?" Veldora huffed once she retracted her arm. Y/N rolled her eyes, but appeased the male by nodding her head. He quickly stomped off toward the large gates of the human city, his arms overflowing with human-made trinkets as he quickly tried to avoid her gaze.

"Can you at least admit that you had a good time?" Y/N asked as she trailed after him. Her (e/c) orbs flashed in amusement as he stopped to turned around and face her slightly.

"N-No. I absolutely did not have fun," he denied. Y/N waited for a second before Veldora spoke again, though this time he spoke in a quiet tone. "Can we come back tomorrow?"

A wide smile spread across Y/N's face as she laughed. He watched her, his golden eyes locked onto the mesmerizing scene of her joyful face lit up by the glowing lamps of the city.

"We'll come back as many times as you want, Veldora. I promise."

Question of the Chapter: Do you like reading 2nd person x readers (you, your, etc) or 3rd person x readers (she, her, he, him, etc)?

Hey hey hey!

Second chapter out! Let me know what y'all think! To answer my own question, I actually personally don't have a preference. I somewhy have no ability to insert myself into the story and I always make up a character in my mind to fill in the x reader spots. I see the appeal in reader inserts, hence why I'm writing one, but I just personally cannot do it for some reason >~<

Again, this chapter is considerably short and less than a 2100 words. I find that it's easier to get the chapter out within a short period of time, but I'm also not really pushing myself to make it more descriptive. I also feel like I'm rushing the scenes a little bit.

Anyways, as always, let me know what you think of this chapter. I'd really appreciate feedback on it! Comments and PMs are always welcome <3

Stay safe and healthy
