600 Years Before Rimuru's Reincarnation

Veldora sighed, boredom taking it's toll on the dragon as he rested his head on his arms. His blue-membrane wings folded upon his back and his tail swinging lazily. He would've liked to tear down the human city nearby, but he had to be careful. His fun would be ruined if some of those pesky adventurers they had caught him. They were no match for a True Dragon, but that didn't mean Veldora wanted the extra hassle of being hurt by their stupid little weapons.

As the black-scaled dragon had just started to drift into unconsciousness, a loud roar in the distance startled him. Veldora lifted his head up, standing on his feet as he angled his ear in the direction of the original sound and waited for another. It sounded like a dragon's roar, but he couldn't be sure. His siblings definitely were not in this area (he made sure he was far away before he settled down), but he also didn't know if any other dragons, aside from his family, lived nearby.

Then, he saw it before he heard it; a large figure with flapping wings speeding toward the clouds. The wingspan of the dragon was almost twice that of the dragon's length and (f/c) spines topped the dragon's neck. Two large, beautiful branching horns protruded from the slender head and sharp (e/c) eyes were focused upwards. The black scales reflected the sunlight and looked almost (f/c) to Veldora.

He was absolutely mesmerized.

Immediately, Veldora took off in the direction of the dragon. He was absolutely sure that whoever this female was, it wasn't any of his sisters; if it was, he would be going the opposite direction. Even from this distance, he could tell it was a female from the dragon's head. From what he knew, female dragons had a longer, more slender facial structure than male dragons did.

Veldora raced to catch up with the dragon, but she was surprisingly far. She spun and twirled in the sky as if she was dancing. The blue-hued dragon tunneled on reaching her. If there was anything he wanted, it was to find how he didn't know a beautiful dragon such as her existed.

The (f/c) dragon's (e/c) eyes met Veldora's golden orbs and the latter faltered for a second.

Don't come any closer!

Veldora stopped mid-flight, flapping his wings to keep him still as he started at her. She flew in another circle, growling as she awkwardly tucked her wing in within a second and dropped a couple feet. She let out an annoyed roar, the same one that Veldora had heard earlier. He took a second, then narrowed his eyes on her figure and movements. She wasn't just flying around freely; there was something trying to attack her.

The male's eyes flickered down to the ground where he saw human adventurers. Various skills were activated and they were aimed toward the (f/c) dragon.

Just incinerate them, Veldora replied with a roll of his golden orbs. Had it been him, he wouldn't have even bothered letting them chase him as far as she did.

Do you think I want to turn out like you? She huffed, dodging another arrow as she glanced around. From a distance, she seemed fairly large for a dragon, but now that Veldora was next to her, he could see that she was no larger than he was.

What does that mean?

It means you're an idiot.

How dare you?! Veldora glared at her as she glared back. Even if she was beautiful, he wasn't about to let an insult slip by. A small insult it was, but an insult nonetheless. I am Veldora! One of the True Dragons!

Doesn't matter if you have a goddamn bounty on your head! I'd like to make sure I don't get killed right away if I'm spotted please and thank you. Plus, I can't even incinerate them. At most, I can drown them with a flood, but I'd be drowning the whole forest.

Veldora silenced, knowing she was right. He did indeed have a bounty on his head, which was why he was laying low for the time being. He had to wait anywhere between twenty to fifty years before the humans stopped trying to shoot him on sight, though that was a mere nap for the near immortal dragon.

So? Veldora crossed his arms, his wings still flapping lightly to keep him up. He was surprised the humans didn't see him yet even though he was so close. What're you going to do now?

Get these persistent things off my tail? She glared down, then glanced at Veldora. Why're you here anyways and where did you even come from?

You disturbed my nap.

Then go back. I don't need to be associated with a destructive dragon like you.

As she spoke, her attention was off the humans and they managed to get a hit in right on her wing. The arrow tore through the wing, thankfully not lodging itself in the membrane. A growl of pain and annoyance left her as she used her magicules to force her wing membrane to heal in a split second.

I'm about to drown them, forest be damned.

Just fly away? Veldora said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. She turned her (e/c) eyes on him and gave him the most deadpan look a dragon could give.

Don't you think I've tried. These things followed me through half the forest, I don't know how they keep tracking me. She paused, then glanced at Veldora. Since you're here, help me then.

No. You called me an idiot. Veldora huffed and turned away childishly.

Oh, grow up. She rolled her eyes. I learned something new, but I need you to catch me and drop me off somewhere safe.

You just said that you didn't want to be associated with me.

And I don't. But I'd rather be associated with you than die because these damn bugs won't let me rest.

Veldora reluctantly agreed, uncrossing his arms and looking to the female. She was a feisty one, that was for sure.

What do I do?

Just catch me.

With that, the female dragon's figure was engulfed in a black mist. The humans below faltered in their attack as she was completely obscured from their view. Veldora narrowed his eyes, putting himself in a stance where he could dart forward if he needed to. His golden eyes flickered around, waiting for any movement from the dust.

A fluttering, colored cloth caught his eyes and the dragon raced forward, holding out his palm and catching the object gently in his claws. It was a humanoid figure with long (h/c) hair that almost seemed (f/c) in the sun and bright (e/c) eyes. She was wearing (f/c) fabric that the humans called a 'kimono' and it hung off her shoulders slightly, exposing her skin. The only thing that confirmed to Veldora that this was the female dragon, aside from the fact that she literally just fell from the cloud of magicules, was that she had sharp, pointed ears and long, (f/c) horns protruding from her head.

"Nice catch," she said out loud, sitting comfortably in the nest of his claws as Veldora flew them towards his little cave.

How did you do that? Veldora asked, glancing down at her slightly. It was impressive to say the least.

"It's a form of mimicry, though I can't do it perfectly," she shrugged. With a finger, she pointed at the branching horns on her head. "I can't mimic humans perfectly since these always stay, but I can always use my other skill to hide them."

It only took about a minute or two for Veldora to reach his little cave in the Forest of Jura where he had been resting. With his wings blowing dust everywhere, he managed to land the two of them safely at the mouth of the cave. The female hopped off his palm, brushing off the fabric wrapped around her as she stood on her own feet.

You're powerful. What's your name? Veldora asked, almost shyly as he turned away from the woman. She raised an eyebrow at the large dragon.

"Is it something you need to know?"

Excuse you. I saved you just now. The least you could do is give me your name. Veldora huffed, glaring down at her, though she wasn't fazed at all. She stared back, as if trying to search for something in his eyes before sighing and turning away. The woman stepped back a decent distance, allowing magicules to cover her body and expand before she was back in her (f/c) dragon form and stood tall before Veldora. Much to her dismay, even as a dragon, Veldora was a bit larger than her; she had already known that she was one of the smaller dragons, but this just solidified that fact.

My name is Y/N. I suppose I'm a being close to a True Dragon, but not quite there yet.

Y/N spread her large wings, taking off and hovering just above the treeline so she wouldn't be too visible to the humans that could possibly be still after her. She was going to head the opposite direction, so it should be fine.

Are you leaving? Veldora frowned as best a dragon could. It was rare to come across another being who wasn't too scared to converse with Veldora since he emitted such power. It was even better that it was another dragon that had showed up this time. Aren't the humans still after you?

I think they put a tracking spell on me earlier, but it should be disabled now that I've absorbed the magicules once.

And where will you go? Will you be back to the Jura Forest?

Y/N seemed to smile at Veldora, her wings making the wind blow slightly in the area and shaking the trees.

If you can find me again, I'll stay with you a little longer. She flew over him in a circle, as if teasing him, then straightened out again. Don't keep me waiting, Veldora.

Before the male could respond, Y/N was off. Her black scales shimmering with hints of (f/c) weren't the greatest of camouflage atop the green trees, but she didn't seem worried as she simply shot off out of sight. Veldora watched for as long as he could, then sighed and curled back up in his cave. Perhaps once the bounty on him disappeared, the first thing he'd do is go search for Y/N.

Hey hey hey!

So, what do y'all think of the first chapter?

Reminder, this is a completely new style of writing for me, so please bear with me if I accidentally write something wrong. Feel free to comment on anything and correct me if I have a description that is severely non-inclusive! I'd really appreciate the feedback.

If you've read my other stories, these chapters are meant to be really short. In the other stories, I averaged I think 5K words a chapter, but these will probably be 2K words or less. It's supposed to be a short and sweet story. <3

Also, I'll do a question of the chapter for this book too; I'll start off simple: What are y'all's favorite colors? :)

I'd have to say mine is probably blue? Like a sky blue or a baby blue color. I'd never actually wear it because I apparently have a closet of only black and navy blue colored clothes, but yeah.

Anyways, let me know what you think of the chapter!

Stay Safe and Healthy,
ThePurpleDragon
