Chapter 28
Namjoon:
They are sitting on Namjoon's sofa, a drink each in front of them as they chat about various things. The more drinks Namjoon consumes, the quieter Z becomes. Or is he just ignoring him? Namjoon can't tell at this point.
"Jimin is on his way?" Yoongi asks, frowning slightly, "Why? What did he say?"
"He... he said heartbreak," Namjoon replies, putting his phone down on the coffee table in front of them. Namjoon grins before covering his mouth.
"Yah, you can't be grinning like that when Jimin gets here," Yoongi reprimands him, tapping him on the leg.
"Yeah, I know," Namjoon pulls his hand away from his mouth, chuckling, "I should probably get it out before he gets here, right?"
Yoongi rolls his eyes, gesturing for him to continue. Suddenly, much to Yoongi's surprise, Namjoon jumps up from the sofa. He starts to dance, wiggling in one place and stomping his feet. He spins around a few times, cheering cutely. After maybe 1 minute of this, he sits back down, clearing his throat and wiping his face of any emotions.
"Okay, I'm done," Namjoon nods, taking a sip from his drink.
"What do you think happened?" Yoongi asks, trying to forget what Namjoon just did.
"I'm not sure," Namjoon responds, "Maybe she's not over me yet?"
"It could be a friend zone thing," Yoongi shrugs.
"Yah," Namjoon chuckles, "Only nice guys use terms like that. She probably just doesn't see him like that,"
"Do you think Jimin is like that?" Yoongi asks curiously, "Do you think he's mad at her?"
"I doubt it," Namjoon shakes his head, "Jimin isn't that sort of person. I bet they decided mutually to remain friends,"
"I hope so," Yoongi takes a sip from his drink, "It would make things awkward,"
"I bet he's just glad he told her finally," Namjoon contemplates, "he probably just wants to deal with the rejection,"
"How would you know, huh?" Yoongi smirks, already knowing the answer to that.
"Shut up," Namjoon grumbles.
It doesn't take Jimin long to arrive at Namjoon's house. He lets himself into the apartment complex but is considerate enough to at least knock on his apartment door. Yoongi lets him in. As soon as he opens the door he sees a red-eyed Jimin carrying a bag that is clinking happily. He has brought more alcohol.
Yoongi leads him into the lounge room, gesturing to the spare spot on the sofa. Jimin pours himself a drink, downing it as soon as the dark liquid splashes into the glass. He pours another and places it on the little table before leaning back and sighing.
"That bad, huh?" Yoongi asks. Jimin nods, sighing deeply again.
"It was the perfect date," Jimin begins, "I took her to that restaurant she has been talking about, the one in that drama,"
"Oh, I remember her mentioning it," Yoongi nods, "Is it nice there?"
"It's beautiful," Jimin scoffs, "But not as beautiful as her,"
"Oh wow, you're in deep, huh?" Yoongi asks.
Namjoon doesn't feel any irritation towards Jimin's words. The fact that she has rejected him is enough for him.
"Yeah, I guess so," Jimin mutters, "I ordered her favourite food, and I held her hand,"
"She let you hold her hand?" Namjoon asks.
"Well, not for long," Jimin smiles, "But I am happy she let me do it once,"
"So... what went wrong?" Namjoon asks. Yoongi gives him a warning look as he is starting to sound too cheerful.
"It didn't... it was perfect. We went for a walk along the river. She loved it; it was perfect," Jimin looks to Namjoon, a deep sadness in his eyes, "She just doesn't like me in that way,"
"Oh," Namjoon says, "I'm sorry, Jimin,"
"It's okay. I'm not mad or anything. I'm just glad she was willing to try for me," Jimin smiles, "Doesn't change that it hurts,"
"That is very mature of you, Jimin," Namjoon compliments.
"I guess," Jimin shrugs.
"It's okay, we'll enjoy tonight and start moving on tomorrow, huh?" Yoongi responds wisely. Jimin nods in response.
Yoongi pulls out his phone and begins playing some music. The three of them spend another hour vibing to the music and chatting about various things. After a while, Namjoon is definitely drunker than Jimin and Yoongi. He starts to talk about philosophy and different levels of wisdom. Yoongi nods along, already used to Namjoon's antics. Jimin watches him with awe, wondering how someone can become smarter when drunk. Yoongi starts to act cute, doing various adorable actions and expressions, making Jimin cringe. Jimin watches them happily, but he too is starting to become drunker, his voice getting louder and his laughter longer.
After a while, Jimin starts to talk about Hana again, reminiscing different things about her.
"I just want to get it out, you know?" Jimin grins, "Because once tonight is over, I need to move on, right? If I get it out I can feel at peace,"
"That's true," Yoongi nods. Namjoon is swaying to the music, a huge grin on his face.
"She's just so beautiful in my eyes," Jimin says, "Her chubby cheeks... you know, they used to be as big as marshmallows in school,"
"I can imagine," Namjoon grins, "Her cheeks are adorable,"
"Right?" Jimin laughs, "And her eyes... oh my god her eyes,"
"You can just get lost in them," Namjoon responds.
"Definitely," Jimin replies, "But her happiness? Her intoxicating addiction to life? To living?"
"Oh yes," Namjoon smiles, "She's so lively,"
"And her body?" Jimin grins.
"Oh yeah," Namjoon snickers, "Very sexy,"
"Alright, hah... let's change the subject..." Yoongi interrupts as Jimin gives Namjoon a strange look.
"You know," Jimin starts, ignoring Yoongi, "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you like her,"
"Luckily you know he doesn't!" Yoongi chuckles loudly, shuffling to tap Namjoon aggressively on his leg.
"Well, I do," Namjoon smiles, "I'm not allowed to though,"
Silence.
Jimin stares at Namjoon, his eyes wide. Soon, his expression hardens as he glares at Namjoon.
"I knew it!" He spits bitterly, "I knew you liked her! Everyone was saying you do! I can't believe I trusted you,"
"Hold on, Jimin," Yoongi starts damage control, "He's really drunk right now, but he's right. He didn't have much of a choice with that,"
"What do you mean?" Jimin demands.
"Z won't let me," Namjoon mutters. He stops swaying, the intensity in his chest sobering him a little.
"Why?" Jimin asks, his expression softening.
"I don't know," Namjoon scoffs, "Why don't you explain Z? Oh, wait! You refuse!"
Z stays silent, obviously ignoring Namjoon's outburst.
"Basically, Z told Namjoon from the start to not fall for her, but he did. Then, when Hana asked him out, he had to reject her," Yoongi explains as Namjoon finishes his drink and pours himself another.
"Oh wow," Jimin frowns, looking at Namjoon, "I... I'm sorry you had to do that,"
"It would hurt less if I knew why," Namjoon mumbles bitterly.
"So you really don't know why?" Jimin asks, looking between them. Yoongi shakes his head sadly.
"No, it's the only thing Z refuses to explain... unless it has something to do with the ownership thing Z has with her?" Yoongi suggests.
"I doubt it... if that was the case he would've explained it because we already know that" Jimin replies, watching Namjoon carefully.
"It just... hurts," Namjoon mumbles. Jimin tenses at Namjoon's words, his voice sounding like he is on the verge of crying.
"I understand," Jimin responds.
They watch him for a moment, unsure how to make him feel better. Eventually, Jimin chuckles, causing the two men to look at him.
"You could always not listen to Z," Jimin shrugs.
"I don't think that's a good idea," Yoongi responds, but Jimin starts to become excited. The alcohol seems to be affecting him now.
"Listen, she likes you, a lot," Jimin explains, his voice sounding restricted, "And if anyone is going to look after her, it's you,"
Namjoon looks up at him, his eyes bright with hope.
"Really?" Namjoon asks.
"Yes!" Jimin says loudly, "I trust you with my life,"
Yoongi raises his eyebrows, staring between the two of them. It's starting to become too deep for Yoongi's liking.
"Alright..." Yoongi clears his throat, "Let's talk about something else,"
Yoongi quickly changes the conversation to something a little lighter, pulling them from the conversation. Namjoon and Jimin become happier, laughing, and enjoying themselves. But, at the back of Namjoon's mind is Jimin's words.
You could always not listen to Z.
Should he just ask her out? Could he just ask her out? He has Jimin's blessing, he's even encouraging it. Even with a broken heart, he cares for Hana's happiness.
But does she still like Namjoon?
. . . . .
Namjoon wakes with a headache. He sits up, spotting a water bottle on his bedside table. He reaches for it, drinking it quickly. Once it is empty and his stomach is feeling less queasy, he places it back. He rolls over in his bed, only to find a body beside him.
"Yah..." A voice groans, "Get off me... why are you so clingy,"
"WHAT THE-" Namjoon jumps back, stumbling out of the bed. He stands up, looking down at the bed. Jimin sits up in the bed, rubbing his eyes sleepily, his hair sticking up everywhere.
Watching him stretch in his bed, Namjoon recalls what happened last night.
He hadn't prepared a bed for Jimin, so once they were tired and wanted to sleep, Namjoon offered Jimin his bed. There was a bit of back and forth, with Yoongi wanting to sleep in the bed too. But, in the end, Jimin agreed to just share the bed with Namjoon.
"Good morning," Namjoon mutters, watching him. Jimin looks at him blearily, smirking.
"Breakfast time?" Jimin asks. He slides out of bed and moves towards the door. Once he is there, he looks at Namjoon.
"Why are you acting weird?" Jimin asks, "Platonic sleepover... it's fun,"
Namjoon shakes his head, chuckling at Jimin's comfort and confidence in his own sexuality.
He follows him out of the room, excited for some breakfast.
As soon as he is finishes showering, he heads downstairs to find Yoongi has ordered some food. Jimin is already down there, helping Yoongi set the table. They look up at him as he enters the room.
"Good morning," Yoongi says, "I ordered some noodles,"
"Sounds good," Namjoon grins, moving into the kitchen to make himself a coffee.
As the other two guys begin to eat breakfast, Namjoon watches them for a moment. A comforting sense of pride and happiness builds in his chest. Hoseok and Seokjin have always been his closest friends. But they weren't that close. Seeing Yoongi and Jimin, who both know about Z, sitting comfortably at his dining table brings him this intense euphoria. They did not leave, or run away calling him crazy. Sure, they thought so at first, but now they are his closest friends. The encouragement, the support, the laughter.
He has not experienced such a close friendship before.
You better not be planning to do what Jimin said last night.
Z startles Namjoon, talking to him in his mind as he pulls him from his reverie.
Well, I promise I won't...
Good.
As long as...
Namjoon hears what sounds like Z groaning in frustration.
Just do as you are told! His voice booms loudly in Namjoon's head, but he just smirks.
Well, you know what to do. Give me a reason.
No.
Give me a reason.
Why?
Give me a reason.
NO!
Give me a reason.
Do as you are told!
Give me a reason.
Namjoon hears Z groan again, but he doesn't respond again.
Then I am asking her out.
He ignores him again, but Namjoon doesn't care. He's won this one.
He joins Yoongi and Jimin at the dining table, feeling lighter and confident in his decision.
(A/N) 🫰🫰🫰 Tsk, tsk RM, you really wanna fight a god?
I say as if I am not the one writing this shit.
