FORTY FIVE
Taehyung's smile faded, replaced by a look of cold determination. Before I could react, he grabbed my wrist, pulling me closer. "You're coming with me," he hissed, his grip tightening.
"Let go of me!" I struggled, but his hold was too strong. "Jungkook will come for me!"
Taehyung roared in frustration, "Oh hell, that Jeon! My baby sis is in love, oh-ho!"
I shuddered, trying to pull away. "Taehyung, please..."
"If you want your lover to stay alive," Taehyung growled, "you'd better tell me everything you know. Otherwise, you'll witness a bloodbath—and you know you don't want that. That's why you've been trying so hard to stay away from all this."
He tossed a phone at me, and I barely managed to catch it. Before I could react, he jumped over the balcony railing and disappeared into the side garden.
I stood there, trembling, clutching the phone tightly.
My body shivered at the thought of betraying Jungkook, but I had to do this for his safety. My brother Kim Taehyung... He is what I saw now... His words were always calculated, always... A cold-hearted bastard. Then there was my big brother Kim Seokjin, a man with his charming words. Both of them were dangerous in the underworld, both of them had their own personalities, and both of them were unpredictable. Taehyung had promised me he would not meddle in my life, even Seokjin brother too, but by doing this they broke their promise.
I was unaware about them till I turned fifteen years old. I was in an orphanage in Seoul... My mother, who left me at the orphanage when I was two, had her reasons... They were attacked when I was two, my brothers were on vacation in Daegu at our grandmother's home, whereas I stayed with Mom which they told me about. So, during the attack, my supposed father, whom I came to know, was handling everything when they attacked our home, whereas Mom ran away, she kept moving around the sides of Busan with me in her arms until we were in Seoul. Then Mom didn't have any choice; she left me at an orphanage's door. After leaving me, she was caught by the enemy too. They tortured her for something which I wasn't able to find out, but Father found her within before they could kill her.
But they could not take me back home. They kept me at the orphanage for life until I turned fifteen. My brothers came around the orphanage very much, and I got attached to them as they always used to bring gifts for us until I asked them if they could adopt me, but they revealed that I am their real sister. They kept their eye on my whole life. Within time, Mom and Dad came around too. For God knows why... When I was out of the orphanage, they wanted me to go home with them, but when I was told that I could not go out without any freedom, I denied it... All this life I had spent in an orphanage within four walls. I could not handle more of it. So I decided to stay out of it... Out of it meant their mafia shit... But I don't know how I came under the radar of Jeon.
I could not help but scold myself when I came to know that he knows about me... My everything.
The phone in my hand felt like a lead weight.
I had no choice. For Jungkook's safety, I had to play along with Taehyung's demands, no matter how much it tore me apart inside. My mind raced, trying to think of a way out, but every path led back to the same conclusion: I had to betray Jungkook to save him.
aking a deep breath, I unlocked the phone and dialed the number Taehyung had programmed in. It rang once before a voice on the other end answered.
"Speak," Taehyung's voice commanded, cold and unyielding.
"I'll do it," I whispered, tears streaming down my face. "But you have to promise me he won't be harmed."
Taehyung's laughter sent chills down my spine. "We'll see about that, little sister. Now, tell me everything you know."
My heart ached as I began to relay the information, each word feeling like a knife twisting in my chest. Jungkook had trusted me, and now I was throwing it all away to save him. The weight of my betrayal threatened to crush me, but I had no other choice.
Once I finished, Taehyung's voice softened slightly. "Good girl. Now, stay put. I'll handle the rest."
The line went dead, and I collapsed onto the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.
