Introduction

A loud roar echoed in the faraway trees by the Artemis Lake. It thundered so loudly, the large birds, even those fearless and that attack the young girls going to school, flapped their golden wings and screeched at eachother as they flew in the opposite direction.

The roar turned from angered and fierce to a soft whimpering cry. The trees slightly shook as the tantrum went on.

     But then it suddenly stopped.

Below the canopy was a large, turquoise, female dragon with massive wings and a spiked tail. Her eyes were a deep blue, and her claws were the size of a small car. Deep wounds have been inflicted on her scaly chest. She let out a moan, and then all was silent.

     She was dead.

Clutched in her large claws against her chest was an egg. A large, beautiful white egg with green speckles. It glowed as the sun's rays hit against the shell.

     It cracked. Craaaack.

At the same time, a young orphan girl crawled out from her hiding spot inside of a large fallen log. She had watched the death of the mother dragon and was now paying attention to the egg in her grasp.

Curious, no longer filling with fear and anxiety, she crawled to the massive beast to take a look at her egg. Her short brown hair fell to her shoulders, and her eyes were a beautiful hazel. Her skin was a pale tan color.

The girl scrambled over the dragon's body and tried to pry open the dragon's claws. She was successful. The egg slid from it's mother's grasp and fell on the soft, mulchy ground into a pile of moss.

     Another craaaack.

The orphan flinched, but continued to attempt to pick up the egg. Suddenly, just about when she was going to pick it up, the egg burst into large chunks of shell and a handsome, green dragon come out of the egg.

It's eyes were a dark shade of green, and turquoise scales lined its back in a long stripe. It's small, fragile wings where a lighter shade of green on the inside, while a darker shade was painted on the outside.

The dragon let out a huge yawn.

The girl struggled to carry it all the way to her little house in the woods. The little green winged lizard kept trying to eat her hair and tear off her raggedy clothes. Every time the orphan tried to shoo it away when she put it down, it would follow her and make warble sounds.

"I know," the girl whispered to the dragon. "You can stay with me as long as you don't mess up anything."

The dragon cocked his little ears. It let out a shriek.

"My name is Emily," the girl said. "I guess you need a name, too?" The dragon struggled to stand on his hind legs like Emily. He let out a whimper before falling on his side. He stuck out his tongued, and it was blue.

The blue tongue reminded Emily of the massive lake that was near the orphan dragon's deceased mother's body.

"I know!" Emily exclaimed. "I'll call you Artemis Dracen!"
