chapter 23

The golden trident drifted down through the swirling currents, following the lifeless form of Ursula as she sank into the depths of the ocean. The sea witch’s dark magic unraveled with her defeat, sending a ripple of energy through the water. In the eerie silence of her lair, the shriveled polyps that had once been trapped souls began to glow. The sickly, twisted shapes stretched and transformed, turning back into merpeople. Confused but overjoyed, they swam free from their prison, their eyes wide with newfound hope.

Among them, King Triton’s form shimmered as the trident, drawn by his rightful power, settled into his grasp. A brilliant glow surrounded him as his merman form was restored, his tail a magnificent, glimmering blue-green once more. His strong hands gripped the trident tightly, his eyes flickering with emotion as he took in the sight of his freed subjects.

"Father!" one of his daughters cried, swimming towards him.

Triton turned to see his other daughters gathering around, their relief and joy evident. But even as the victory settled upon the ocean, his heart felt a pang of sorrow.

---

Gentle waves lapped against the golden sands of the shore, the first hints of dawn painting the horizon in soft pinks and purples. The salty breeze carried the scent of the ocean, mingling with the sound of seagulls calling overhead.

Harry lay unconscious on the beach, his damp curls clinging to his face. His chest rose and fell steadily, his breathing slow and even. A few feet away, Uma sat on a smooth rock, her tail glistening in the early morning light. She gazed at him, her expression unreadable, but her heart ached.

Triton and Sebastian watched from a distance. The wise old crab studied Uma carefully before turning to the king.

"She really does love him, doesn't she, Your Majesty?" Sebastian murmured.

Triton sighed, his grip tightening slightly on the trident. "Yes, she does."

Sebastian smiled knowingly. "Well, it's like I always say, Your Majesty. Children got to be free to lead their own lives."

Triton raised a brow, glancing at him. "You always say that?" He let out a deep, thoughtful sigh. "Then I suppose there's only one problem left."

Sebastian’s eyes widened. "And what's that, Your Majesty?"

Triton’s voice softened. "How much I'm going to miss her."

A moment of silence passed between them. Then, with a deep breath, Triton lifted his trident. The golden energy swirled at its tip before shooting into the water, forming a glowing path that led directly to Uma.

She gasped, watching in astonishment as her tail shimmered with golden light. Slowly, it changed before her eyes, splitting into two human legs. She wiggled her toes in amazement before looking up at her father, eyes brimming with gratitude.

---

Harry groaned softly, his fingers twitching against the sand as he stirred. Blinking against the morning light, his vision adjusted, and the first thing he saw was Uma, standing barefoot in the sand, a delicate periwinkle gown draping over her frame.

"Uma?" he croaked, sitting up abruptly.

She grinned down at him. "It's me, sailor."

Harry scrambled to his feet, hesitating for only a moment before pulling her into a crushing embrace. Uma melted against him, gripping the back of his shirt as tears pricked her eyes.

"You’re really here," Harry whispered into her hair, his voice thick with emotion.

"I’m here," she murmured, pressing her forehead against his.

A soft cough interrupted them. They turned to see Triton watching with an approving nod.

"Take care of her," Triton said firmly, his voice carrying the weight of a father’s love.

Harry straightened, placing a hand over his heart. "With my life, Your Majesty."

A smile tugged at the corners of Triton’s mouth before he turned back to the sea. He met Uma’s gaze one last time, touching her cheek gently. "I love you, my daughter."

Tears welled in Uma’s eyes. "I love you, Daddy."

With that, Triton stepped into the waves, vanishing beneath the surface in a swirl of shimmering magic.

---

The sun shone brightly over the grand ship anchored in the harbor, where wedding guests cheered as the newlyweds shared their first kiss. The sound of waves lapping against the hull and the music of joyful laughter filled the air. Max, the overenthusiastic sheepdog, jumped between Uma and Harry, licking their faces as they laughed.

On deck, Emma dabbed her teary eyes with a handkerchief—Andrew’s handkerchief, which she had taken without asking. Andrew sighed, letting her keep it.

In the water, merpeople gathered, waving to the guests above. Triton stood proudly among them, flanked by Uma’s sisters. Scuttle fluttered excitedly above the deck, holding Flounder with his webbed feet.

Uma reached out and gently kissed Flounder’s head. "See you soon, little buddy."

Scuttle nearly dropped him in his excitement. "Whoops! Sorry, kid!"

Sebastian, perched between two miniature cake toppers of Uma and Harry, sniffled as he wiped his eyes. "Oh, what a beautiful moment," he muttered tearfully.

His moment of sentimentality was cut short as a shadow loomed over him. Turning, he squeaked in terror as Louis, the ship’s chef, raised a knife over him.

"Non, non, non! You again?!"

Sebastian yelped and leapt from the cake as Louis brought the knife down, cutting it clean in half. The chase was on.

Sebastian scurried across the deck as Louis lunged, throwing a knife that narrowly missed. Thinking quickly, the crab snapped a nearby rope with his claw. A wooden beam swung forward, knocking Louis square in the face.

The chef staggered backward, his remaining teeth clattering onto the deck before he collapsed in a heap.

Sebastian adjusted his shell with a proud grin. "Yes. Thank you, thank you!"

He promptly dove into the sea, landing between Flounder and Scuttle.

---

As the festivities continued, Uma stood by the railing, watching her father’s form disappear beneath the waves. A fountain of water rose, lifting Triton high enough for one final embrace.

"I’ll always be with you," Triton promised.

Uma nodded, squeezing him tight before stepping back. As he descended, Harry stepped forward, bowing deeply.

Triton gave him a small nod before vanishing beneath the waves.

Uma turned to Harry, slipping her arm through his. They waved at the merpeople below, their future bright and full of promise.

Months later, the news spread throughout the kingdom—King Harry and Queen Uma were expecting their first child.

The ocean and the land would forever be connected, bound by love, family, and the magic of the sea.
