Double Life
Thomas POV
I heard knocking on the front door of my mansion and rolled my eyes. Probably just some more beggars wanting me to promote their business or donate to their charity. Well, I thought, do it for the publicity. I straightened my tie and let my butler open the door. I was met with short woman with a brown pixie cut and dark blue eyes. She smiled with her shiny white teeth and began. "Hello Mr. Malway. I hope you're having a wonderful day. I was wondering if you could donate to my fundraiser to help rescue children from abusive homes to get them to loving families." She said. I paid no attention to her, but acted like I was interested. "So you need a donation to get it started?" I asked, getting bored of her ramblings. She nodded vigorously, "Y-yes, sir!" I took out my checkbook as she kept talking. "So if you could just spare some-" I cut her off. "How does 2 million sound?" I asked, already writing the check. She was speechless. Finally. "I'll take that as a yes, Ma'am." I said, finishing the check and handing it to her. She took it and kept going on and on about her gratitude, but I slowly closed the doors and she got the memo that she was dismissed and left, down the steps and into the car parked in front of my mansion.
Ugh. She was annoying. Not like I'd ever have to deal with that woman again.
I told my head maid, Rosa, to prepare something for me to eat. She nodded and walked off, her braided crimson hair swaying behind her like a lamb's tail. I sighed and walked back up to my room to do some of my paperwork. I worked until my hand was too cramped to hold my pen. I looked up and my head started to pound. I looked up too quickly, and now I'm going to get a headache. I realized. I groaned, annoyed, and laid my head on my desk. I took a quick snooze, but was woken up by a soft knocking on my door. I looked up, relieved that my headache had subsided. I stood up and walked over to my office door. I opened it up to see Rosa with a silver tray with a bowl of chili, my favorite food. She was smiling warmly at me, her honey colored eyes now dark in the dim light. I took the tray from her and nodded. "Thank you, Rosa." I said, honestly grateful. "You're welcome, Sir. I know you haven't been getting sleep lately, so I-" I cut her off and shut the door. I caught a glimpse of her face before the door shut fully. She was looking to the side with a hurt expression. I honestly felt bad about that, but I knew better then to get an attachment to anyone I met. They would only betray me and use me. I was never going to go through that again.
I sat down at my desk and turned the lights on more so the room was brighter. I began to eat my chili, just thinking to myself. "I need to take a nap soon. I must be energized for what will happen.
For being The Brilliance."
