Audrey Slice
The next day, Miss Audrey Slice arrived. Rosa and I stood outside patiently as reporters and paparazzi swarmed around the mansion. Suddenly, a slightly small limousine pulled up. The woman who founded the company, whose name was apparently Lana El, stepped out and motioned for someone else to come out. I saw a little girl, around age 5 and 3 feet, with long, platinum blond hair, brilliant amber eyes, and darker skin, holding a battered doll and a small suitcase, slowly and nervously hopping out of the car. Ms. El held the little girl's hand and slowly brought her to the front steps. Rosa awed softly, "Isn't she the most precious thing ever?" I was too stunned to speak. I felt so many different emotions that I didn't know if I was feeling numb or not. Ms. El let go of the girl's hand, and the girl looked back with pleading eyes. She smiled warmly and motioned to me. She came over to me, looking up. I quickly led us all into the mansion, slamming the door behind us. I didn't want to spend another second with the flashing lights.
I looked down at Audrey and only felt three things. Confusion. Frustration. And disgust.
I was confused and frustrated of why I couldn't say no. I was confused about what this once quiet, peaceful house would become with this child. I was frustrated that I said yes without even knowing how to raise a child. And I was completely disgusted.
Disgusted with this decision.
Disgusted with myself.
And absolutely disgusted with this... Child...
Rosa, of course, was the complete opposite. As soon as the doors closed, she was absolutely ecstatic. She immediately knelt down to Audrey and happily played around with the child. I stood to the side as I kept thinking about what on Earth I would do. Rosa looked up to me with a bright smile. "So, Sir, what are you going to do know?" She asked as Audrey looked up at me hopefully.
I stared right into her honey eyes and said, "Take Miss. Slice to her new room. I have work to do." I said in a cold, harsh tone. And without another word, I turned around and walked up the stairs to my office, leaving them both next to the front door.
