Chapter 16

Life really changed it's colours with time. Mine was colourless earlier which once again turned colourful when my friends re-entered it. But I am really scared that it won't last long. That's the problem for all of us. Whenever we get something, instead of cherishing it, we still stay scared about losing it.

But I still want to rejoice it.  Anyways, today is friday, my last day of school before the weekend. And I'm really happy to spend the weekend as all my friends are now with me. They are like my family and having them is the most precious gift I could ever get.

I woke up excitedly, reached school on time and happily went into my lecture room with Tara, Radhika and Pari on my either sides. But my happiness was short lived as I saw Samantha sitting besides Sargam. They were cozy with entwined hands which made me realize that maybe I'd lost the chance.

I sat in my place but my mind was not at all focused on the ongoing lecture. Instead it kept wandering to the previous mistakes I've made in my life. The biggest was leaving my brother and the second biggest was leaving my best friend without giving him any reason. My mind was out of these thoughts as soon as I heard the loudspeaker making an announcement.

"Good morning Wilson High School. I'm your Principal Raina D'Souza. This is an announcement about the camping. It's going to be held in the next week to Vikramgarh. So, get yourself ready with parent's signature on the camping form which will be distributed today."

I was shocked was an understatement. I wanted to run away from school when I just saw both of them together and spending the next weekend with them would be a total disaster. I'm sure about it. And I'm even sure about going to the camp as my parents would definitely make me go. They won't let me stay home knowing about the camp. And I can't lie to my parents. Never.

I went for my lunch break totally exhausted by my thoughts occupying my mind throughout the lectures. I met my friends at our usual table with a new addition which I new would most probably appear daily from now on. Samantha. I decided to ignore her but her mouth made it impossible for me to keep my mouth zipped up.

"Have all of you heard about the other transfer girl who'd ran away from her father's house along with her mother? Who knows how her character is?" she spoke casting her gaze directly on me. Feeling her piercing gaze, I was trying my best to control the words threatening to escape my mouth when this opportunity was taken away by Tara and Pari. Tara spoke confidently, "Well if you don't know the girl then stop uttering rubbish about her." Vikram's face was red with anger and because of the highly raised voices of Samantha and Tara, Sujit had cast his eyes on us from the nearby jocks table.

Radhika's hands were curled preventing herself from punching Samantha even though she was the non violence follower. But Sargam was the only one who showed no emotions. Once again his emotionless facade was on. If he spoke nothing today then I will believe that now I don't want a friendship from him. He's changed. Pari threw Samantha away from our table while Sargam caught her. He took her out of the canteen leaving the lectures to go god knows where. Now I'm really tired to convince him. Today was my last trial. Now it has ended as well.
