Chapter Twenty-One
Lucas Pov
"FIND THEM!" I scream at everyone. Rayne and Dante never even made it to Tina's and Frank's, I discovered this morning when I woke up. Everyone ran to find my son and girl when they found the car at the airport. I can't believe she left. I can't believe I actually cheated on her last night. I was such a dumbass. I stood up and went to the window, leaning against it. I tried to call her again after taking my phone out of my pocket, but it kept going to voicemail. Goddammit! My phone gets thrown across the room as I yell. I exit and get into my car to drive home.
I finally arrived at my parents's house and walked in. I rushed over to my father's office and pushed my way in. I see my mother standing beside my father and walking over to her. "THIS IS YOUR FUCKING FAULT! SHE LEFT THE FUCKING COUNTRY WITH MY SON!" She just backs away when I scream in her face. She can definitely smell the alcohol on my breath, but it does not bother me.
"Lucas, back the fuck up; that is your mother you are screaming at!" My dad pulled me away and screamed at me. "She is the one who told me to let her go, so I do not care! I fall to the ground, sobbing, and put my head in my hands. "She should have stopped her like I was trying to do," I say. "Both my son and my girl have left me. What am I supposed to do? Knowing they are out there and might be in danger due to me makes it impossible for me to breathe." I say, feeling ashamed of what I did, not wanting to look up.
You will realize that this might be for the best, Lucas. Just give her some time, son, and she will return." My mother says this, bending down to meet my eye level. Shaking my head, I simply give her a quick glance before getting up and leaving the office.

FIVE YEARS LATER,
I departed Italy with Dante five years ago. He is nine years old now. I am amazed at how much time has passed. I have seen Lucas' face all over the news and social media at events, with different samplers on his arm at every event, never the same girl. I am not sure if he has been looking for me or anything, but if he has, he will not be able to because I changed my name and moved to a little town called Copeville as soon as I moved to Washington. Copeville is located on the island of Whidbey. I am happy, and so is Dante. He is currently enrolled in the fifth grade. In addition to attending nursing school, I work as a waitress. After purchasing my house and enrolling in nursing school, I still have a lot of money left over from my parents, but I still work, and I detest spending it. Oh, and Sarah moved in with me here. She keeps an eye on Dante while I am at work or school. She became pregnant through her relationship with Mykel. They have been dating for four years, so I hope they get married soon.
Not only that, but I am seeing someone else who has not met Dante yet, and I probably will not allow him to see my son anytime soon. We have only been dating for about three months, so not very long, and I do not trust anyone with my child. I am really trying to take things day by day with him because I find it hard to trust people after what we went through in Italy. Although my uncle and cousins have been doing a great job of sending the Russians in the wrong direction, I am aware that they are still out there and that they are still searching for me. However, I am not sure how long they can continue doing that. After I left Italy, six months later, Uncle Frank and Aunt Tina returned to the United States. They have promised not to tell Lucas or his family that I am in Washington, and we speak twice a month. They keep Lucas out of the conversation, and I appreciate that. I don't want to know anything. I enjoy not having to deal with drugs, crime, or other negative influences in my life.
Mom, please hurry up; I have to leave for practice. I'm going to be late." While I am doing laundry, I hear Dante yelling at me. "Coming," I yell back. I finish putting the clothes in the dresser for him and head down stars. Dante is in Little League baseball, and he loves it. Dante is sprinting out the door to get to the truck as I descend the stairs. I chuckle and shake my head, then look over to watch Sarah putting on her shoes.
"That boy never stops moving; when will he ever just sit down?" Sarah asks me.
I respond as I lock the door, "No, he is just like his father; he never was one to sit still either." We turn and head for the truck when I see a strange vehicle driving slowly past my house. I try to act normal even though I am nervous because I have never seen this car before.
Once they have passed, I hop into the truck, start it up, and then retreat from my driveway towards the baseball field. Before I can even put the truck in park, Dante leaps out when we arrive. "Goodbye, mom. "Aunt Sarah, good bye." With a shout, he charges into the field. I chuckle and give him a shake of my head, then I follow him outside to the practice area, with Sarah trailing closely behind.
When we reach the bleachers, we take a seat and watch the children practice. We have been seated for almost twenty minutes when we hear footsteps approaching. We hear Mykel say, "There is my beautiful baby mama." Then he climbs in beside her and gives her a cheek kiss.
"Hey Rayne, do you have work or class today?" He asks me. I smile and say, "I have the next two days off," before turning back to watch my son.
At last, the practice is done. He comes running up to me and says he cannot wait for his first game, which is in two weeks. "That's good. I will see to it that I take time off work for your game." He smiles and rushes to the truck when I say that.
Would you like to grab a pizza? Mykel and Sarah both answer "yes" and say they will meet us there when I ask. As I get into the truck, I turn to make sure Dante is securely fastened. I ask him, "How does pizza sound?" "Let us go, please; I am starving." Dante says, and I chuckle before getting in the truck and going to get supper.
After we get there, Sarah orders pineapple and ham from Jimmy's Pizza, and I order two large pepperoni. Who does that, Eww? Who ruins pizza with pineapple? Since I know she must be craving it because she is pregnant, I say nothing to her.
While we wait for our food at an empty table, Dante begins chatting with Mykel about his impending game and how excited he is about it. I lost it when he continued talking about a fight that had happened at school and how he had gotten into a fight with the same child.
"Dante, violence is not okay! Fighting is unacceptable. I will take you off the team if I find out that you are fighting again." I say in a firm tone.
"Jeez, Mom, calm down; that kid did not really hurt me." He looks away after saying this and rolling his eyes at me.
"Rayne, please relax; this is common behavior for boys. Mykel laughs at me and says, "He is fine.
"When it comes to my son, do not tell me to relax. Until your child is born, you cannot and will not understand. If I tell my son not to fight, then he should also refrain from fighting." I say back, and I get up to go get our food.
