Chapter Twenty

Rayne Pov

"I will not stand by and wait for them to kill you; I refuse," Lucas says to me as he walks away. Does he have that little faith and trust in me? How could he think that? "I will be back, Stefan," I say, as I walk out behind Lucas.

"Lucas!" I shout, running, trying to find him. I look in his office and he's not there, so I run outside and see him peeling out fling dirt and stones. "Lucas!" For some reason, I yell at him again, believing he will hear me over his car. "Aha!" I yell out of annoyance. Will things always be like this when I do something he disagrees with?

I return to the warehouse and make my way to the meeting area. "Could we complete this tomorrow? I have to go talk to Lucas." I turn and ask Stefan. Uncle Frank turns to face him, and he shakes his head. "May I borrow your car for a little while?" I ask my uncle. He reaches into his pockets for his keys and hands them to me. "Remember to fill it up with fuel!" He yells as I run out of the room. As I head outside to Uncle Frank's car, I message Nico, asking him to find Lucas and send me the address.

I do not know why, but the cliff is where I go first. I get a text from Nico after another twenty minutes of driving. I read the text, and it says he is at a place called Eclipse. I put the address in my phone, and it took me 20 minutes. By the time I reached the place, it was already dark. I see there is a line to get in, so I pull down the visor and fix my hair and makeup before I get out of the car. Once out, I walk up to the door, skipping the line. The guard at the door looks at me up and down, then steps aside and lets me in.

The smell of sweat and alcohol hits you as soon as I walk in, followed by the vibration of the music. The lights are flashing and bright. I push through the crowd, walk towards the bar, and look to see if I can see Lucas, but I don't see him. I walk around and keep looking, but he is still nowhere to be found.

There is one more place to look, I think to myself, and that is the VIP lounge. I head up the stairs, and what I find shatters my heart in two. It knocks the wind out of me, and I feel sick. I found Lucas, but I also found him with another female. She is straddling his lap, and he has his face in between her tits. She looks to be wearing nothing but black booty shorts, and her shirt is unbuttoned. He has his hands on her ass, pressing her into him. She grinds on him, with her hands working on the buckle of his pants.

I snap out of my shocked daze and walk up to him. I was not sure if I was more pissed about the fact I had let myself open up to him and believed that he could be interested in me, or the fact that I had believed him when he said he did not care if we went slow, thinking he was being kind and patient. No, his nasty ass was probably dipping into all this nasty STD-carrying shit. "Well, I am glad I decided not to sleep with you. I may have caught an STD if I had. Hell, if you frequently do shit like this. You may have shit already that AJAX cannot wash off." My saying this to him seemed to have snapped him out of his drunkenness. He jerks his head up, looking at me, quickly pushing her off him and standing up.

I watched him in disgust as he had to catch his pants. That skanky bitch had already undone the button on his jeans and had them unzipped. He goes to say something, but I stop him. I raise my fist, bring it back, and then swing it as hard as I can muster. It connects with his face with a responding thud. I turn and rush down the stairs and out the door of the club. I make it to the car and start it. I saw Lucas running out the door as I put the car in and drove off before he could make it to me.

I rush back to Lucas's parent's house and get out. Running up the stairs, I grab a bag for myself and pack some clothes, then rush into Dante's room and pack some clothes. Once I'm done, I grab Dante. "Where are we going, mom?" He asks me. "We are going to go visit Uncle Frank and Aunt Tina," I say as we walk down the stairs. We make it to the door when Lucas rushes in. He gets in my way and refuses to move. "Lucas, move, please," I say, not looking at him. "No, I will not move until you talk to me," he says, blocking the door.

I look around and see no one is around. I let go of Dante's hand and crossed my arms. "Lucas, if you do not move, I will make your other eye match the one I already decorated for you at the bar while you were with your fucking whore. I should have made her face match yours while I was at it, but I thought that would have been an improvement to her looks, so I thought better of it." I say, but he just stands there. Fine, he wants to play it that way. I raise my fist again and get ready to hit him, but he grabs my hand before it even comes close to connecting with his face. "LET ME GO!" I scream, "I do not want your whore filth touching me!" I bellow at him, seething.

"No! Not until you listen!" He yells back.

"I have no desire to hear your voice! You Cheating. Nasty. fuck." I yell at him, enunciating each word. This goes on for another five minutes. He finally lets my hand go. I start hitting him in the chest and start to cry and yell. "Why did you decide to cheat all of a sudden? Why couldn't you wait any longer? You just needed to have your dick in some nasty whore? You said you understood, and it was FINE!" I yell and cry. He just stands there, taking the abuse. "I want to leave; now move!" I yelled this time as I hit him. But he just stands there.

"Lucas, let her leave." I hear his mother, Stella, yell's as she stands in the doorway, looking at us with disappointment in her eyes. I didn't notice we had caused a big enough scene that we have now drawn everyone in the house over to watch.

He sighs and steps away. I grab mine and Dante's bags. I then grab Dante's hand, and we head out of the house and into the car.

As I leave the house, instead of going to Aunt Tina's and Uncle Frank's house, I go into the city and decide to get a hotel for the night and book the first plane back to West Virginia. I will come up with an actual plan once I get on the plane.

I lay Dante down in bed and go get in the shower. As I do, I find myself sitting on the floor and crying. This betrayal is killing me. My body, both physically and mentally, hurt. Once I'm done with my shower, I climb into bed with my son.

I wake up the next morning early, get online, and book two tickets for the first plane to leave. At this point, I don't care where the plane takes me. I just want to be out of Italy as soon as possible.

Dante and I arrive at the airport and head to customs. After we are done, we start to board the plane to leave. I messaged my cousin Melaine and Aunt Tina, telling them that I loved them and thanked them for everything, but I was heading home. But the plane is taking me to Texas, and I'm not telling them. Before getting on the plane, I ditched my phone. "Mom, I thought we were going to see Aunt Tina and Uncle Frank," Dante says. "I changed my mind; we are going on vacation," I say, smiling at him.

Dante and I are finally on the plane, in our seats, and ready to go. I don't think I properly breathed until we were in the air.

It was a long flight; I didn't keep track of how long it was, but I was happy and relieved that we finally made it. I didn't stay in Texa's just in case they searched for us. I got a rental car, drove to Kansas, and bought a car I saw on the side of the road that was for sale. I pulled money out of my ATM card, then I cut my card up. I filled the tank and just drove. I didn't know where Dante and I were going, but I did know I had enough money to get me a house or apartment, and it would last long enough to get me a job. I don't want to use all the money my parents left me.
