Chapter Six

Lucas Pov

When Rayne said she regretted sleeping with me, It felt like my heart was being ripped from my chest. I walked away from her after I told her I regretted sleeping with her as well. The truth is, I don't regret it; I never did. She is the first girl I ever felt anything for. The day I met her, she did something not only to my mind but also to my body. I had never reacted to a woman like that before.

We have been on the road for an hour now, and Dante has woken up. "Momma, I'm hungry," he says to Rayne.

"Ok, we will stop in a few, buddy," I answered before Rayne got the chance to respond. I hand her my phone and tell her to call Caleb to let him know that we are stopping to get Dante something to eat.

She calls him and tells him, and I notice an Ihop is coming up, so I pull off the highway exit and head there. We arrive at the Ihop and get out. I grab Dante and head inside as Rayne grabs her purse and follows behind. She hasn't said much since she apologized to me. We find a table. I set Dante down and sat across from them. Caleb and Collin sit down with us, and Rayne sits next to Dante.

We ordered our food, and I noticed Rayne only got a coffee. She looks out the window in a daze and ignores everyone but Dante.

After everyone ate, he got back on the road. We were about 20 minutes from the house when I noticed we had a tag-along. "Rayne, I need you to look under your seat. You will find a gun. I need you to grab it." I say to her

She looks at me like I have lost my mind, but she pulls it out anyway. "Lucas I don't want to sound like a dumb girl, but what am I supposed to do with this?" She asks me as she looks up at me with wide eyes.

"Well, Amore, we have a tail, and I'm going to need you to shoot. If they try anything." I say to her, and she starts laughing at me. "Lucas, I don't know how to shoot." She says after she stops laughing.

"Fuck me," I say under my breath. "I have an idea," she says.

I glance at her before I look back towards the road. "Trade me spots," she says, unbuckling. I stared at her for a few moments as she just looked at me, waiting for me to react before rolling her eyes. "It is not rocket science. I move there, and then you slide out and move over here. It works as I cannot shoot."

After another brief second, I nod before instantly freezing as she slides over the armrest and into my lap. As I silently pray, my body remembers we are in the middle of a crisis with our son in the backseat, and I feel the warmth of her body against mine. I move my foot and let her grab the wheel as I move over to where she was sitting just moments prior. I grab the pistol, checking to make sure it's still loaded, and I look at the car through the mirror.

As I look out the mirror, I notice the car behind us has sped up. "Amore, I'm going to need you to keep the car steady and for you to speed up some. Can you do that?" I ask her, and she looks at me and smiles.

"Yes," she says as she keeps her eyes on the road. We feel the car jerk forward as the car behind us hits the back of the car.

"What was that, Lucky?" Dante asks, trying to say my name. "It was nothing, buddy. Just put these on and watch Paw Patrol," I say, handing him some headphones and my phone.

"Oh my god, Lucas," I hear Rayne say, panicking. I look out the back window and see what has caused her to panic. The passenger in the car who keeps hitting us now has a gun out the window.

"Ok, just stay calm and keep the car steady," I say as I roll down the window. I feel the speed accelerate more as I climb out of the car. "Ok, Rayne, when I say I want you to spin us around," I say, hoping she knows what I mean.

"No problem, but I'm going to have to get some distance between us." She shouts, and I shake my head, agreeing with her.

She presses on the gas some more to get us more distance. She then pulls the hand brake and turns the wheel, causing the car to spin around. We are now facing the car behind us. She lets go of the hand brake, hits the gas, and is now driving towards the other car, basically playing chicken with these mother fuckers.

Damn, this girl is hot. I think to myself and shake my head. I need to focus. I release the safety and start shooting before they even get a chance to shoot. They got a couple of shots off but missed, thank God. I shot the front tires and the driver. I get back in, and she spins the car again, like she did the first time, and speeds up.

After five minutes, we notice Caleb and Collin are dealing with the same sh*t. "Just keep driving; we need to get Dante home," I say, looking back at Dante and seeing he has silent tears coming down. I climb in the back seat to comfort my son.

We get to the house, and I climb out of the back seat. Rayne jumps out, not bothering to shut the car off or shut the door. She grabs Dante, looks him over, and then pulls him into her hug.

"Rayne, where did you learn how to drive like that?" I ask her, raising a brow and crossing my arms.

"That's a story for another time. Caleb just called Rayne. We need to go." Melaine says she is grabbing Dante. Rayne follows behind them and heads to the Jeep.

After I see them make it to the Jeep, I head inside and see Frank and my dad's men loading up on weapons.

"Son, where are Rayne and Dante?" My father asks as we hear gunfire and see windows exploding. "She just left with Melaine and Tina," I shout over the gunfire. I duck behind the wall and start shooting.

As we continue to take out the assholes who decided to attack us, I run out of bullets. I reach down and grab the knives I have hidden in my pants. I bring my hand back, getting ready to throw it, when I feel a bullet hit my shoulder.

I drop the knife as searing pain goes through my arm and chest. I put my good hand over the wound to put pressure on it.

I look up and see a guy walking towards me with a sinister smirk on his face while he aims his barrel at me. I grab my knife quickly off the ground where it fell and get ready to throw it at him when he falls to the ground from a bullet going through his head.

I turn to look and see Rayne standing behind me with a gun in her shaky hands. "What the fuck are you doing? You were supposed to leave with Tina and Melaine." I shout at her as I force myself back to standing and run over to her.

I grabbed her face in my hands and then looked her over to make sure she wasn't injured. She has a few cuts, but nothing serious.

"You got shot." She says this as she grabs my hands from her face, her eyes focusing on my shoulder.

Korey runs over to us and tells us we have to go. I grab Rayne's hand, and we rush to my black SUV and push Rayne into the back seat as Caleb, Korey, Collin, and Nico jump in as well.

Korey is driving. Caleb is in the passenger seat as Collin and Nico are in the back behind us with the trunk open. They are shooting at us as I lay on top of Rayne, trying to protect her from the bullets flying at us, using my body as a shield.

"Take us to the airport." I hear Caleb yelling over to Korey as he is hanging out the window, shooting at them.

After we know we are far enough away and out of ammo, the guys close the back hatch, and Caleb climbs back into the car. I sit up and look at Rayne, and she looks around and releases a shaky breath.

We arrive at the airport, and I see Tina standing on the steps of the jet with Dante in her arms. We jump out of the car and run up the steps. Rayne takes Dante from Tina's hands. She rushes over to a seat and sits. She puts her head on his, hugging him and kissing his head as she has silent tears fall down her face.

I walk over to her and ask her with my eyes if I can see him. She shakes her head and hands him over to me. 'Hi, Lucky." Dante says as he looks into my eyes and smiles.

"Hey buddy," I say, hugging him as I release my breath of relief. "Where are we going?' Rayne asks me as I sit next to her.

"Italy," I answer, looking at my son.
