Author's POV

Jenny was tossing and turning on her bed for the last two hours and still wasn't getting any sleep.

It's been three hours since she came back from Sam's place and hit her bed as it was already past twelve.

After changing into a pink baggy t-shirt which hopefully reached below her mid-thighs. Switching the lights off she put her phone to silent and slumped in bed hoping that she would fall asleep soon.

And now, it's been two and half hours of her trying to sleep, yet she didn't succeed.

She tried everything that could help her to fall asleep, she closed her eyes and lay down while recalling the good memories that always comforted her. She tried counting sheep even if that didn't work. After two major failures in the attempt to sleep, Jenny gave up finally and got up from bed.

Leaving a long sigh she looked around her gloomy room of hers, and utter silence was the only thing she could find around her.

Stepping down from bed Jenny wore her soft mushy sleepers and walked towards the balcony.

Rubbing her etching eyes leisurely she stood near the glass Riley of the balcony and looked around feeling her breath.

The town was painted in grey and black or darkness with few pinches of yellowish and reddish dim city lights. Leaning in she placed her hands on Riley on the balcony and instantly felt cold hitting her skin making goosebumps arrive. Within a few seconds, she got used to the cold and stayed still looking at the wonders of the navy blue sky that was spread all over the place her eyes could reach for.

The pale crescent moon shone like a silvery claw in the night sky.

Jenny was caught in a moment of serenity that slowly took control over her thumping heart and running mind which didn't let her sleep all this while.

Because what happened back in Sam's house was still playing in her head that kept her edgy and away from peaceful slumber.

* a Few hours ago *

" Ryan? "

Sam and Maya asked in union, narrowing their eyebrows at Jenny who was still giving them a blank look.

" Ryan Dixit, " Jenny muttered, offering them a moment of self-realisation.

It took a few seconds for them to get registered with the name in their mind before they called out loud " Ryan Dixit? The young achiever in the business industry who won WEOY of the year recently and now is the talk of the town and sensational news among women because of his statement of never being attracted to a woman in his most recent interview. And your dad's business partner? "

Jenny bit her lower lip as she nodded at them multiple times.

" You like him? " Asked Sam after a long pause of silence caused by Jenny's sudden revelation about her liking Ryan Dixit.

" I don't know "whispered Jenny, looking down.

" He's not your typical" butted in Maya

" Shut up, let her decide for herself" Sam came to the rescue of Jenny who would have cried any moment after what Maya said.

" Get over whatever you began to feel for him " warned Maya, who just finished the pecan pie and now liked the cream off from her fingertip.

Maya was emotionally turned off these days, her unnamed relationship and bonding with Asher were shattering slowly and she had no idea what to do with it. If she asked herself why even she bothers about Asher and his ignorance towards her she gets only one repeated answer: He's the only person who seemed to care for me genuinely.

This was so confusing and stressful for her, she wasn't able to verify what she wanted him to do with her. A part of her wants him to hug her gently and murmur sweet things in her ear which can smooth her racing heart whenever she thinks about him but the other part of her wants to run far away from him because somewhat in the corner of her heart there's still a small piece of thorn left by her ex that she was trying to overcome silently.

" Ignore her, tell me what made you think that you like him ?" Sam was serious about this now, he knew Jenny isn't a girl who easily gets impressed by any handsome man.

Sam has spent some of the most beautiful days of his life with Jenny, and by being her best friend he knows what exactly she will look for in a partner if she ever wants to date one.

Her standards and expectations were so high that even Cabir struggled to impress her in the beginning days, not even Cabir but a few more guys in college who were interested in dating her but couldn't make it up since she seemed too hard to please. She is a woman who will never get settled with less than what she deserves.

Jenny took a deep breath and said " I can't describe it in words....but it's just whenever I see him my heart goes high and it takes a great amount of self-control to take my eyes off him "

" That's called ATTRACTION " once again Maya butted in making Sam roll his eyes.

He gave her a murderous look before saying " stop gaslighting her, let her figure out her feelings first " he didn't want Jenny to get manipulated by Maya as he knows Maya is not so in good mood today so anything that comes out of her mouth will be negative only.

" You fool, Ryan Dixit is a man with mystery, no one knows what exactly he is.....he didn't date any woman till now....nor there was any rumour about him being in a relationship with anyone, he never opened up about his father, his friends' circle is very private that people don't know whom he's a friend with, all these years he has kept his private life low profile which is almost impossible for a rich and famous person like him...even media couldn't succeed on, now tell me don't you think he's a creep? " Maya said in one go and breathlessly looked at Sam who was still processing what she said.

" I mean there must be a reason why he never dated anyone, and kept his private life a secret.....what if he's some kind of Psychopath or Mafia person? " Maya raised her eyebrows after making a brief note of what she thought about Ryan Dixit.

Although Maya never met Ryan in person she still read about him in magazines and watched his interviews from time to time. His intimidating persona never allowed her to take him on the positive side of hers. With urging curiosity to know him she dug into the internet and found nothing that could satisfy her curiosity.

So she presumed that behind the handsome face and beneath his desirable body there was something that he was hiding from the world.

" Maya, you need to calm down... Ryan's a sweet person in real...I suggested you should meet him once before judging him " spoke Jenny with an assuring smile.

" You've already started to take his side? Really? " Maya laughed sarcastically.

Jenny could feel the tension in the air that made the atmosphere a serious one which shouldn't be when she confessed her liking for Ryan she didn't expect things to take this wild turn. She thought her friend would aid her in figuring out a way to take her feelings to the next level but whatever she is witnessing right now is opposite to what she thought.

Maya's negative opinion of Ryan before even knowing him made Jenny

Wrought up.

Of course, Maya cares for her, but dumping her cynical thoughts on Jenny just because she had a bad day isn't settling with Jenny yet she kept mum about it.

" You can't just simply assume things about someone you didn't even meet " it was Sam who grunted irritably as Maya was challenging his tolerance level by being a full-fledged pessimistic person today.

" That's my gut feeling, not assumption" Maya protested.

" Ohh really then where were your gut feelings when you dated Ruben who dumped you for another fling? " The moment these words came out of Sam's mouth he regretted saying them.

Maya's eyes widened as she opened her mouth to say something but closed it instantly as she couldn't gather words to protest against what Sam said.

" Look Maya, I didn't mean to...." Sam began in an apological tone but Maya stopped him from speaking by showing her palms.

" Save it for later, " She abruptly got up from the couch, adjusted her hair, and grabbed her belongings and car keys.

"Maya waits. that's not what he meant...... At least listen to him for once " Jenny stood up in an attempt to stop her from leaving.

" I don't have any reason to be mad at you, so give me any " Maya vacillated shutting Jenny.

Sam grabbed her elbow and was about to say " Maya..... I'm so......" but he was cut off by her firm voice.

" Don't.....I need to be alone for some time, let me " she said without looking at them and left.

Before Sam and Jenny could process what was happening Maya left shutting the door with a loud thud after her.

" Drama queen " Sam muttered under his breath but Jenny did fail to hear that.

" You should haven't said that...." Jenny snapped at Sam.

Shrugging his shoulder Sam said " please not you too, "

" She is dealing with her stuff Sam, you shouldn't haven't brought her past to win an argument with her...... " Jenny's wonderful voice reached his ear.

Sam remained silent for a few seconds, he wasn't proud of what he said but Maya's authoritative tone somehow poked his anger that he unknowingly said something which he didn't mean.

" You hurt her " added Jenny

" Please stay quiet, I know I've hurt her..... But no matter what we do or say now she won't listen because you and I both know that Maya is stubborn when she is angry or upset.....let the night pass..... I'll personally buy her favourite Lily flowers and white chocolates to convince her after apologising. " He exclaimed loudly, bringing relief to Jenny's face.

" Is that fine ? " he asked

" Stop yelling, man....."

Sam and Jenny both turned back to see Maya standing at the entrance with her arms crossed with each other as she leaned on the door with a smirk.

" You....." Sam called out loudly, " I thought you left "

Maya smiled and walked in " well I wanted to leave....but then I realised that I mistakenly took your car keys in hurry " she jiggled his keys in front of him.

" Ohh "

" Yep, ahead of that, I came to switch car keys but I heard your idea of apologising with my favourite Lily flowers and white chocolates....." She paused for a second and looked at both of them before continuing " awwwww you kids are so cute " she smiled wildly as she pinched Sam's cheeks.

Jenny smiled instantly as her eyes glinted with relief and joy.

" Eww....get away " Sam made a face pushing her away.

" Cutie " Maya loves to irritate him.

" Don't be clingy " he warned her with a stern voice.

" How cute, let me pinch that cheeks one more time " with that Maya began to chase Sam, who was running away from her.

Sam doesn't like to be touchy for some reason and Maya knows that pinching his cheeks is the top most thing that annoys him.

Jenny stood there Looking at her two idiotic friends who were being worst than kids.

* Present time *

Chuckling to herself Jenny stood there letting the chill breeze swoop her in its magic of lightness.

There was some new kind of refreshment inside her that she could feel. Looking at the moon she smiled thinking of the moment when she realised that she likes Ryan.

And now all she wants is to go on a date with him and know if he likes her too.

She mentally screamed out of excitement about thinking of how things would change if he had the same feeling as hers.

Running inside she jumped on the bed as she grabbed a pillow and hugged it tighter until she fell asleep.
