You Were There All Along

Scarlet walked back to Severus -and her- chambers with a shrug upon her shoulders. She felt tired due to all of the homework given, since all of the professors have to rush with the holidays coming, plus the fact that this year got a bit harder. She entered inside, and saw Severus, standing in the middle of the room with his hands behind his back. "Scarlet... Me and Minerva had a talk earlier......"

Scarlet raised an eyebrow, and tilted her head. "Yes?"

"I'm sorry but.... We're through."

And no. It's not another nightmare.

"What?!" Scarlet's tears quickly streamed down her face, when Severus grabbed her.

He crashed their lips together, and took advantage to slid a tear inside the bottle. "I'mSoSorryIJustNeededATear. ILoveYouAndYouOnly. PleaseForgiveMe. ILoveYouSoMuch, IWasJustPretending." he blurted out all at once as he pulled away. (Did I scare ya guys? No... Oh... Okay.)

"You do know you can just tell me to cry." Scarlet sniffed, as she wiped her face.

"Trust me, darling. I've grown the hard way."

"What are the tears for?" she asked. Severus held her hand, and pulled her towards a weird-bowl-type-thingy as what Scarlet thought. "Is that a...?"

"Pensieve. Yes. I need you to come with me. I have both of our tears... And I believe this should work."

Everything was happening so quickly. What in the world was happening? As Severus poured the tears into the Pensieve, he nodded his head towards Scarlet. She nodded back and held her breath . Once her head was dipped inside the bowl, her world seemed to fade away.

She stood up, to see she was in Spinners End.

A 10-year-old girl in a turqiouse dress was crying uncontrollably upon her door step. Now, a man can be seen walking out of his house. He was very disturbed with the sniffing and sobbing, that he had no choice but to stop it himself. "Miss Carter?" his voice asked gently. The girl named Carter looked up, to see a man dressed in black. She slowly backed away, as she held her teddy bear in her arms. "Please.... Don't... Hurt... Me..." she whimpered, making the man rolled his eyes playfully. "I won't... I'm Severus Snape."

He smiled at her 'truly', and arched an eyebrow.

The real Severus was smiling like the one in the memory. Just like it. The real Scarlet's eyes snapped towards him, and he sighed. "I'll explain afterwards."

The memories went inside the 21st house of Spinner's End.

Scarlet and Severus followed their younger selves, and watched as the two had a conversation. "Why don't I remember this?"

"What do you want?" the girl asked, wiping a tear. "You're name is Scarlet, am I correct?" Severus asked gently. She nodded her head, and hugged her teddy bear tighter. "But, may I ask, why are you crying at the front of your doorstep?" the scary man named Severus asked. Scarlet hesitated to answer, but ended up sighing. "My... 'Bestfriend'. He betrayed me." Severus was taken aback with her words as he heard the BESTFRIEND. He shook the thought off, and took Scarlet's hand, who was really confused. "Take me to him. I'd like to have a chat, with your 'bestfriend'." he told her. Scarlet stood up, and walked with the man, as she dragged her Teddy Bear alongside of the road that made it dirty enough as a rag

They stopped at the opposite house, and Scarlet gestured it was that one. Severus sighed, then went up. He rang the doorbell, and the door revealed a boy Scarlet's age.

But the memory faded, and fowarded to another one.

Ever since 'Mr. Snape' visited Scarlet, he visited her everyday. Scarlet Carter was very fond of Mr. Snape. She would ask him random questions, that surprisingly, amused him. Severus felt a little tingle inside him. Everytime he saw the once crying girl on the doorstep, he knew he was going to be happy....

But Uncle Sirius Black wasn't happy at all. He sat at the opposite of Scarlet's bed and smiled at her crying face. "I heard you've been meeting with a man."

"Well... Yes. He's very nice."

"Scarlet... You don't know him, 'too well'."

"Oh, but I do! He's very kind to me, and'll answer any of the questions I ask!"

"Scarlet, dear... He's dangerous."

Scarlet quickly rose up from her spot, wearing a look of disbelief in her face. "He is not dangerous!" she exclaimed angrily, when Sirius' eyebrows furrowed. "Never shout!"

"Argh..." The real Scarlet muttered to herself, as her head pounded. "Why aren't I remembering any of this?"

"Padfoot, please! If Lucas -"

"But this is a man twice your age, Scarlet! I forbid you to meet him again!"

Scarlet's face was full of fury, and she ran out of the room. But she didn't listen. In fact, Scarlet always sneaked her friend inside the house, and talked to him before bedtime.

But one of those nights, Sirius Black figured all of this out. He slammed the door open, to see Scarlet and Sev talking.

"YOU DIDN'T LISTEN TO ME!" Sirius roared, and pulled the girl out. Scarlet was dragged out of the room, and she landed on the floor with a loud thud, alarming Tonks and Remus. "You! Stay away from her!" Sirius bellowed at Severus. But he wasn't listening to anything Black said, he was focusing on the girl lying across the floor groaning in pain. "Don't hurt her, Black!!!" Severus yelled the loudest that 12 Grimmauld Place trembled. Sirius was furious than ever before. The only spell he can ever think of......

"Obliviate!!"

he shouted towards him, and in an instant, Severus fell to the floor, unconcious. Later, Tonks and Remus entered the room. "Sirius!" Tonks bellowed and slapped him right across the face.

They had no choice but to take Scarlet's memories of Severus as well, as she was furious to all.

Both wizard and witch never saw each other again, till the witch's 11th birthday ticked on the clock.

At the time Scarlet was shopping for her school supplies, she accidentally bumped into someone. She looked up sheepishly, to find a tall stubborn man in black robes, crossing his arms. Absent-mindedly, the man helped her up, and watched as the girl ran back to her Aunt Tonks. Nymphadora caught sight of the man and nodded her head, murmuring something in Scarlet's ear about "Avoid doing that again, alright?"

Again, the real Scarlet was now fitting all the pieces together. Everything was coming back again.

The memory brought them to another one. The same night.

Scarlet was in Hogsmead. She requested Uncle Sirius if she can go out of Hogsmead. He agreed, and told her she must come back before sunset. Scarlet was in front of the Quidditch store. She was in awe as she never saw a broomstick up so close. Her head snapped to the door, as bursted out, the man she bumped into earlier. "Ow! Uncle Snape! Stop that!" a young Draco Malfoy whined, as his godfather grabbed him by the ear. "You are not supposed to be wondering off like that! Understood! Your father will hear about this!" Uncle Snape barked. Draco accidentally dropped his broom, and Scarlet quickly returned it to him. "Thanks." he whispered back, when Snape looked at the girl. She tilted her head in a puppy-like way, and ran back to the inn. "Curious...."

"I thought you and Malfoy were rivals." the real Sev told her. "Pfft. No we weren't. There were times we would secretly get along..." real Scarlet replied.

But the memory was fading one last time towards the night of September 1st, 1993 or 94.

As a taller-looking Scarlet was in line, waiting for her name to be called during the Sorting Ceremony, she caught the eye of the man she met in Diagon Alley. His eyes widened, and when Professor McGonagall shouted: "Carter, Scarlet!" a pang of memories hit him. "Argh..." and he hit is own head intentionally.

"GRYFFINDOR!!!" the Sorting Hat yelled loudly.

Finally, the descendant of the Carter's came back to Hogwarts.

Years later, Professor Severus Snape, was unsually close to Miss Carter. Calling her to have a small talk, and see her smile as she would peak into her Potions Grade that was marked 'Outsanding'.

Both were pushed out of the Pensieve, and now, Scarlet was looking at Severus with a look he couldn't describe. "I-I... Good Lord. I'm just -"

"Confused. So am I. We need to go the Headmistress' office now."

Scarlet followed Severus to the Phoenix staute, and went inside. Sirius was there, waiting impatiently, and rose from his seat. "Scarlet!" he exclaimed happily. But she didn't smile, yet she huffed with furrowed brows. "Good evening, Miss Carter." Professor McGonagall greeted. Only the four of them were there, that made it awkward as the Headmistress' voice kept on bouncing around the walls. "I pressume you have already saw what I ordered Severus, yes?" she asked. Scarlet nodded her head, and felt Severus' hand, that squeezed her's where no one can see an inch.

"Very well."
