Chapter 2

Bumblebee kept his head down as he crept through the bushes. His teal optics glowed softly against his frame, anxiously shifting left and right to check for danger. He didn't know where he was going, or what he was even looking for. That raccoon must've gotten the metal object from somewhere, right?

Up ahead, the trees and bushes parted ways to reveal a small cliffside clearing. Bumblebee narrowed his optics and as he wandered closer, he was able to make out a figure.

Sitting by the cliff was none other than Blitzwing. The Decepticon triple-changer had his legs dangling over the edge, while his servos were busy messing around with something that Bee couldn't see.

Bumblebee wasn't paying attention and carelessly stepped on a twig, the wood snapping loudly under his pede. Blitzwing's head swiveled around like that of an owl's, his piercing gaze freezing Bee in his tracks like a deer in headlights. Both Decepticon and Autobot stared at each other for a moment or two until Bumblebee couldn't handle the silence anymore.

"H-Hey, Blitzbrain." The scout released a nervous chuckle, though his gaze was occupied by what Blitzwing held in his servos. "Whatcha got there?"

Blitzwing blinked, though his red monocle continued to stare blankly at Bumblebee. "None of your business." He turned away and continued messing around with whatever it was, completely unfazed by Bumblebee's presence.

Bumblebee huffed. This was probably a bad idea, but who cared? Not him. Clutching the metal plate in his servos, he cautiously approached the larger Con.

"I found you out here by yourself, so it kinda is my business now." He tried to peer around Blitzwing's arm, but was promptly blocked by the Con's shoulder. "C'mon! Lemme see!"

"Why won't you take no for an answer? Go home to your petty Autobot friends." Blitzwing muttered, his wings twitching in annoyance. His face shifted into Hothead and he growled at Bee. "Before I turn you into an unrecognizable pile of scrap!"

Bumblebee squeaked and stumbled a few paces backwards, nearly tripping over his own pedes. "W-Wait!" He held up the metal plate so Blitzwing could see it. "Did ya lose this?"

Blitzwing paused, staring at Bee for a moment before Icy regained control. He narrowed his optics to peer at the object in Bumblebee's servo. "Where did you find zat?" He questioned.

"I saw some Earth creature with it." Bumblebee replied. Then, a smirk slowly overtook his face. "What, you want it back?"

Blitzwing scowled at the smaller mech. "I am not in ze mood for your games, bug. Give it to me." He extended one arm out to snatch it from Bumblebee, but Bee was too quick. It was out of his reach before he even had a chance to grab it.

Bumblebee snickered, obviously having fun. "Oop! Sorry, Blitzbrain! Gotta be quicker than that." He hopped out of reach once more, reveling in Blitzwing's annoyed curses. "Hey, I've got an idea!"

"You are testing my patience—"

Bumblebee shushed him with a digit before he could continue. "How about this: you let me see your special little contraption, and I'll give you the missing piece!"

"Zat is—" Blitzwing began, but purposely cut himself short. It wasn't worth it. Sighing heavily in defeat, he said, "Fine. But you had better give me zat piece."

"Don't worry, I promise I'll give it back!" Bumblebee waved his servo dismissively as he strolled over. He plopped down beside the larger mech and looked up at him with a wide grin. "So? Let's see it!"

The triple-changer held out his servos to reveal what looked to be a tiny structure of some sort, held together by an unknown force.

Bumblebee frowned in slight disappointment. "That's what you were hiding? What even is it?"

"It's a puzzle." Blitzwing stated blandly. "Give me ze piece and I'll show you what it does."

Several questions filtered into Bee's mind, but he figured now wasn't the best time to ask. He handed over the piece without hesitation and watched intently.

Blitzwing pinched the piece between his large digits and carefully clicked it into its designated place. Now that the puzzle had been completed, the metal pieces glowed a soft pink color before collapsing in on themselves, thus destroying the structure.

Bumblebee blinked in surprise. "It just falls apart when you finish? What's the point of that?" He huffed.

"So you can put it back together again." Blitzwing cupped the pieces in his servos and deposited them into his subspace. "Ze pieces are held together by magnetic properties zat—"

"Ugh, please don't go into detail about all that sciency stuff. It hurts my head." Bumblebee groaned. He sat there for a moment, tapping his digits on his thigh to pass the time. Eventually he got bored and let out another groan as he propped his head up with his servos. "I'm boreeed..."

Blitzwing shifted his gaze from the moon to the tiny mech sitting beside him. "Zen why don't you go home? I'm sure your Autobot companions are worried about you."

He wasn't exactly sure why he cared all of a sudden, but just went with it. It wasn't like he had much to do anyway. There was no reason for conflict, although Hothead begged to differ—as usual.

"Nah, they don't care. If anything, they're probably glad I'm gone." Bumblebee muttered. He didn't look at Blitzwing, focusing instead on the glimmering lights of Detroit in the distance.

Blitzwing quirked an inquisitive brow. "Why do you say zat?"

Bumblebee shrugged, his lively expression soon falling. "They say I'm annoying all the time and I always just get in the way. Technically I'm not even supposed to be out here. I should be back at base, serving my three weeks of confinement." He huffed softly. "Stupid Optimus and his stupid punishments..."

Blitzwing watched him closely. He felt empathy for Bumblebee, seeing how distressed he was. It was strange to see a bot who was usually so energetic and upbeat become so crestfallen. "Zat was your punishment for blowing up zat block of ze city?"

"You know about that?" Bumblebee cast a panicked glance at Blitzwing.

"Word travels quickly among ze Decepticon ranks."

"Lemme guess... Starscream?"

"Mhm."

Bumblebee buried his face in his servos. "What am I doing? Venting my sorrows to a Decepticon... Optimus will kill me if he finds out!"

"You obviously wanted someone to talk to." Blitzwing said before his face shifted into Random. "Ooh, we should make friendship bracelets! I want a purple one!"

"Maybe next time, Blitzbrain." Bumblebee sighed, absentmindedly leaning against Blitzwing's shoulder for comfort without realizing it. "If there even is a next time." He stared up at the night sky, Random's voice drowned out by his intruding thoughts.
