Chapter Ten

Hestia stared at Mando in confusion. "What?"

"Din", he repeated. "Din Djarin. It's my-"

Hestia cut him off. "-name." She let out a surprised breath, staring at him in complete shock.

"You trust me enough with your name?" she asked, almost in tears.

Din nodded. At that, a few tears slid down her face. She started shaking softly as more tears started dripping from her face.

"Din", she whispered as she sat back in her own seat. Mando stood and knelt beside her, going to wipe away a tear with a gloved hand before pausing. His hand hovered by her face for a few moments before he pulled it away, only to surprise her again when he pulled off his glove. His hand returned to her face, and this time he wiped away her tears.

"Why are you crying? I thought you'd be happy to know my name", he whispered. Hestia stared down at him, a smile upon her face.

"I am happy. I am so happy that you trust me enough to tell me your name", she whispered. She slid off her chair to kneel next to him and pulled him into a hug. He didn't hesitate to return the hug. They sat there in silence for several moments before a loud cooing came from next to them. They both looked to see the child watching them. Hestia laughed slightly, before resting her head on his shoulder, staring at the child.

"Is it just me, or do we feel like a small family?" she asked. Din looked down at her and beneath his helmet he smiled.

"We are a small family, Hestia", he whispered, pulling her closer than she was before. She smiled softly and wiped away a stray tear. There was silence for a few moments before Din spoke again.

"Trust means a lot to you, doesn't it?" he asked. Hestia froze, and her eyes fell downward, as a memory filled her mind.

"Yes", she choked out. "It means everything to me."

Din looked at her, and gently rubbed circles on her back. Hestia smiled softly, before diving into her tale.

"I... this isn't easy for me to talk about. It's been burned into my mind since I was a kid", she whispered. "The reason why trust means so much to me."

"I was about 7 years old", she murmured. "It was at the end of Clone War, just before the Empire came into power. I was hidden in a room with several other younglings my age. We were all training in the ways of the force. There had been an attack on the temple. Someone I-", Hestia choked on her words, a sob forcing it's way out. "Someone I trusted... someone who had helped us train... betrayed us. He... he killed all of the other younglings. I was lucky to escape." Hestia's voice turned bitter. "I was returned to my family on Ryloth, where we tried to fight against the Empire."

Din's heart broke to hear such a similar tale to his own. He turned Hestia toward him and pressed his forehead against hers once more.

"I understand your pain", he whispered, leaving his forehead against hers. "I understand."

Hestia let out a strangled cry as she threw her arms around Din's neck, tears running down her face. He hugs her tightly, a few tears spilling from his eyes as well. They sat like that for a while, and soon Din noticed that Hestia was beginning to slump down as she fell asleep. He chuckled softly, causing her to wake up.

"Din?" she mumbled sleepily. Din's heart skipped a beat at his name. He smiled.

"You're falling asleep, Tia", he said. "You should go down to the cot and rest."

"Come with me?" Hestia mumbled. Din's eyes widened and he looked down at the sleepy twi'lek.

"I need to get the ship to Lothal first. I'll wake you when we get there", he said softly. Hestia nodded and continued to fall asleep.

He chuckled, before helping her stand. He wrapped her arms around his neck and carried her toward the ladder. He had some difficulty getting down, but he managed. He helped get inside the cot, which was an even more tedious task, and smiled as he saw her sleeping peacefully.

"Sleep well, Tia", he whispered, before climbing back up to the cockpit and focused on flying them to the planet Hestia was so excited to visit.

~~~~~~
Hestia woke up to Din calling her name. She vaguely remembered what happened, but the part that sticks out the most is his name.
"Good morning, Din", she said as she slid out of the cot. He nodded at her, before glancing outside.
"We're on Lothal", he said. "Do you know where to go?"
Hestia shook her head. "Are we near any cities?"
"I landed near the capital", Din answered. Hestia hummed.
"Well, I suppose it's as good a place to start as any. With that, she took the child from him, and went down the ramp where she was instantly greeted by a white loth-cat. She smiled and tilted her head, kneeling to pet it. It purred as she pet it, and the child giggled.
"What is that?" Din asked from behind her.
"A loth-cat. There's an abundance of these everywhere on the planet, though white loth-cat's tend to be the rarest."
Din nodded before stepping past her into the tall grass. She stopped petting the cat and followed him into the city.
As they wandered through the city, they gained many strange looks. But only one person had the courage to come up to them.
It was a young boy with bright green hair. He looked at the trio, and grinned. "You look like my Aunt Sabine, 'cept her armor was cooler. And you look like my mom, except she's light green while you're light orange. Don't know what the little guy is though."
Hestia blinked, before kneeling in front of the boy. "Where is your mother? Shouldn't you be with her?"
At those words, a scared voice comes through the crowd.
"Jacen! Jacen Syndulla, where are you?!"
"I'm over here, Mom!" the kid yelled. Hestia's breath hitched in her throat. This wasn't some random kid. This was her nephew. Hestia watched as a light green twi'lek made her way through the crowd to the young boy. Hestia slowly stood up, tears coming to her eyes as she stared at her sister.
"Jacen, you know better than to run off like that. And you shouldn't bother people either, especially not travellers!" Hera scolded. Hestia chuckled.
"Oh, he's quite alright, Hera. It just made finding you that much easier. Hera finally looked up at them, and a light of recognition sparked with her eyes as her gaze landed on Hestia.
"Tia..." she breathed out. "You're here, after all these years."
"I ran into someone who knew where you were", Hestia whispered. "This kind mandalorian gave me a ride here."
Din chuckled. "I gave you more than just a ride, Hestia. You've been by my side for several months now and helped me with several missions. I only figured it was time to repay you."
Hestia shot him a playful glare before turning back to her sister. "Okay, fine, yes, I have been travelling with him for a while."
Hera raised an eyebrow, and smirk on her face, as she crossed her arms. "Looks like we have some catching up to do, Tia. I wanna hear all about this."
Hestia winced, knowing that Hera had picked up on her feelings. She quickly changed the topic.
"So, any of the crew around?" she asked. Hera shook her head.
"No one is here except for me, Jacen, and Chopper."
Hestia frowned, staring at Hera confused, but refraining from asking questions about the crew.
"How's the Ghost doing?" she asked. Hera smiled at the question.
"It's doing good. Do you want to see it?" Hera asked. Hestia's eyes brightened.
"I'd love to!" She grinned. "Then I can show Mando here where everything I've told him so far!"
"Mando?" Hera asked. Hestia nodded.
"Yeah. He doesn't like sharing his name, and he never takes off the helmet so don't ask him about that. But he responds to Mando almost as well as he responds to his own name!"
"I'm right here you know", Din said, though a smile is on his face. He had never seen Hestia this excited nor this animated.
The two twi'leks and the small group began walking through the city until they reached the outskirts where Hestia saw the Ghost sitting peacefully. She grinned and bolted toward it, almost immediately going inside.
Din chuckled, and Hera glanced at him.
"She seems much happier than when I last saw her", she commented. "And I think a lot of it has to do with you."
Din was quiet for a moment. "She seems a lot happier than she did when I first met her. You should've seen the look on her face when I said we were coming to Lothal. She was so excited. She's missed you a lot."
Hera laughed. "I'm not surprised. I've missed her two. But I feel most connected to her when I'm in the stars."
Din smiled under his helmet. He wondered if that was the reason Hestia liked being in space so much.
"She's always loved being in space", he commented. "I've never asked why, but I think she might feel the same as you do."
Hera smiled, before looking ahead at her son.
"Keep her safe, okay? I don't think I could lose just like I lost Jacen's father."
Din nodded. "I planned on keeping her safe from the moment I realized that I loved her."
Hera smiled. "I knew there was something going on between the two of you. Does she return your feelings?"
Din looked at Hera. "I don't know. I like to think she does, but I'm scared she doesn't."
Hera opened her mouth to speak, but Hestia interrupted her.
"Are you two slow pokes done talking?! I'd actually like to spend time with my family!"
Hera laughed and called to her sister. "We'll be there in a minute, Tia! Be patient!"
Hestia playfully called out a dissenting answer, to which Hera rolled her eyes.
"Don't wait too long to tell her. Because something might happen by the time you do tell her."
Din nodded once again before following Hera into the ship. He gaze around, taking note of everything. He almost flinched when Hestia grabbed his hand, and pulled him through the ship. She was grinning the entire time as she led him to a doorway. She pulled him through, and his eyes widened at the sight of all the spray paint on the walls.
"Isn't this cool?" she asked him. Din looked around before his eyes fell on a light orange twi'lek in one of the paintings. He approached it, and gently ran his hands along it.
"Beautiful", he whispered. Hestia grinned.
"I know, right? Sabine was quite the artist."
"No. I mean, she is, but what I meant was that you're beautiful."
Hestia's breath caught in her throat, and her cheeks flushed as she turned to face Din.
"O-oh", she whispered before moving over to him and grabbing his hand. "Come on, let's go find Hera so we can explain to her all our adventures. Oh and how we met. Just uh... be prepared to be yelled at. She's a bit protective."
Din chuckled before following the twi'lek who was excited to show him everything.
