Chapter Seven

Hestia grunted as she was thrown about the cargo bay. She struggled to get over to the ladder, and tried to climb up it without hitting anything. That didn't work as she was suddenly thrown forward, hitting her head against the ladder.

"Ow..." She finally managed to get up the ladder and into the cockpit to see a ship in front of them. As she approached Mando, the ship was finally in range of the ship's weapons.

"That's my line", Mando says, and fires at the ship. It doesn't take long for the ship to blow up, and Hestia sat back in the passenger seat with a sigh.

"Another bounty hunter?" she asked, rubbing her bruised forehead.

"Yeah", Mando said, glancing at his companion. "You okay?"

"For the most part, yes", Hestia muttered. "Your fancy flying made me hit my head against the ladder, so now my head's bruised, but other than that, I'm fine."

Mando didn't say anything as the power went out. The child giggled as Mando quickly turned on the emergency power. He flipped several switches, and pressed several buttons, before managing to get the main power again. He flew the ship to a nearby planet, one that Hestia recognized.

"This is Mos Eisley tower, we are tracking you. Head to bay 3-5. Over", a voice came over the comms. Mando responded.

"Copy that. Locked in for 3-5", Mando responded. As they entered, the planet's atmosphere, Hestia grimaced.

"This is gonna suck", she groaned. "I hate sand."

Mando doesn't spare her a glance as he lands them in the hangar. He grabs the kid and heads to the cargo bay, Hestia following close behind.

She watched as he placed the kid in the little cot area that she and Mando alternated using, though she usually got it more often, much to her annoyance. Mando often refused to rest so they could keep moving.

"You sure he'll be safe in there?" she asked softly. Mando nodded.

"Come on. Let's go see what's broken on our ship", he said, heading towards the hatch. Hestia's heart fluttered at the mention of it being not just his, but their ship. She smiled at the mandalorian's back before following him into the hangar. She noticed three droids heading toward the Razor Crest, only to cower down when a bolt from the blaster hit the ground near them.

"Hey!" a voice shouted. "You damage one of my droids, you pay for it!"

Hestia glanced away from the droids to see a woman storming towards them. She stepped up to Mando's side as he spoke.

"Just keep them away from our ship, okay?" he said, staring at the woman. Hestia gently rested a hand on his shoulder, attempting to calm him. She had learned that he didn't like droids, but she didn't really know why.

"Yeah? You think that's a good idea, do you?" the woman spat. "Let's take a good look at your ship."

As the woman stated many of the problems with the Razor Crest, Hestia realized her hand was still on Mando's shoulder. She pulled away quickly, her face flushing with embarrassment.

"Sorry", she whispered to Mando. He glanced at her, but didn't reply, turning back to the woman as she approached them.

"That's gonna set you back", she said, shaking her head

"I've got five hundred imperial credits", he said, tossing her the credits.

"That should at least cover the hangar", she muttered, before turning back to look at the ship.

"I'll get you your credits", Mando said. The woman scoffed.

"Yeah, I've heard that before."

Hestia sighed, but turned to the woman.

"Don't worry. When he says he will, he usually does. There's been very few times where he's not done something he said he would", Hestia said.

The woman grunted. "I'll believe it when I see it."

Hestia smiled. "My name is Hestia Syndulla. What's yours?"

"Peli Motto", the mechanic said, studying the ship.

"Thanks for your help, Peli. It means a lot."

The mechanic merely grumbled, before turning to Hestia.

"You got a reason for staying here or you gonna help your boyfriend look for a job", she said. Hestia glanced over at Mando, who stood near the hangar exit. Her mind went back to the kid who slumbered peacefully on the ship. She didn't want to leave the kid by himself, so she decided to stay.

"I'm gonna stay. There's something on the ship that needs protecting", Hestia said. "I'm going to go let Mando know."

The mechanic nodded, and Hestia left, and went over to Mando.

"I'll watch the kid while you look for some work", she said quietly, glancing toward the ship. Mando looked down at her, and Hestia could tell he was nervous about leaving her here.

"Promise me you'll be safe?" he asked. Hestia nodded.

"Don't worry. I'll probably be safer in her than I would be out there. I'd rather not have to show my skills with a lightsaber on every planet we visit. Otherwise I'll have more ex-imperials on my back than we would have bounty hunters."

Mando nodded and turned to leave. Hestia bit her lip as she watched him start to walk away, before making a last split second decision.

"Mando, wait!" she called, and grabbed his hand. She pressed her lips to the side of the helmet, where his cheek would be, before pulling away.

"Be safe", she said, walking away before he could react. She could feel his gaze watching her as she walked back to ship. She sheepishly smiled before ducking into the cargo bay, letting out a deep breath as she realized what she had done.

"I am so screwed when he gets back", she said to herself. She heard the child beating against the door of the cot, obviously wanting out. She quickly rushed over to the door, and opened it, allowing the kid to see her. She smiled at him, and he gurgled up at her.

She picked him up, and brought him outside, letting him get some much needed sunlight.

"What is that?" Peli asked, confusion lacing her voice. Hestia looked at her, and smiled.

"It's a kid that Mando kind of adopted", the twi'lek answered.

"What's his name?" Peli asked, watching the kid curiously. Hestia blinked, before looking down at the kid. She hesitated before sighing softly.

"We don't know. We know he has one, but we don't know what it is."

Peli grunted, before walking away. "I'm on break right now, so if you want to come with and get out of this blistering heat, you're more than welcome to."

Hestia only just realized how hot she had become from just standing there, and realized that the kid probably felt even worse in his oversized robes.

She followed Peli to an office type space, and they both sat and relaxed, talking quietly. It wasn't long until the kid fell asleep again. Hestia smiled down at the kid, before yawning herself. This then caused Peli to yawn. Their conversation slowly became sparce as their eyelids drooped, and soon, they were both fast asleep.
