I plastered a fake smile on my face, walking through the crowd as everyone stopped me to say "Happy Birthday." I would just nod in response, walking into the kitchen I grabbed the first bottle I could, chugging down big gulps of the alcohol, feeling it burn in the back of my throat.

"Ohh, birthday boy."

I turned around, seeing Monique stand behind me, looking -admittedly hot- in a red, tight dress. I bit my lip, my eyes meeting her blue ones.

"Hey." She smiled, wrapping her skinny arms around my neck. "Happy birthday, Jasey."

I smiled, a real one for the first time, hugging her back "Thanks, Mo."

She pulled back and held out her hands, holding a square box inside them "Here you go."

I smiled, raising my eyebrow "For me?"

She rolled her eyes "Yeah, duh."

I bit my lip, taking it out of her hand and opening it up. "Woah."

My eyes widened, "A Rolex? Mo, this is amazing." I said, looking at the golden watch in awe.

She shrugged, a smirk on her lips "Yeah, might as well use that huge allowance my dad gives me for something good, right?"

I chuckled, nodding my head "Yeah, I guess."

"Put it on." She grinned, motioning to the watch. I slid it onto my wrist, tying it on, not too tight but comfortably. "How does it feel?" She asked, taking a step closer to me and looking down at my arm.

"It makes me feel like I'm the shit." I laughed and she joined me, throwing her head back. I sighed, "Thanks."

She nodded, "You're welcome."

I turned back to the counter. "You want a drink?"

"Yeah." She said, coming to stand next to me. I began pouring her something to drink. She smacked her lips together, making a "pop" sound. "So.. Where's your girlfriend?"

I bit the inside of my cheek, feeling the little bit of happiness I was just experiencing, drain away, "She can't make it."

"But it's your birthday party, what could be more important to her than that?" She asked, raising her eyebrow.

I bit my lip, shaking my head "She didn't know it was my birthday."

I handed her the drink and she nodded, "Oh, well.. She doesn't really look like the partying type anyway. I mean, she seems kinda like - no offence- a goody two shoes."

I shook my head, chugging down some more liquor "She's not a party person and she's not a goody two shoes either. She's just smart and innocent, she's perfect and that's why I love her, I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world."

She gawked at me, her lips parted "O-oh, that's sweet."

I shrugged, placing the empty bottle back on the counter. I raised my eyebrow at her. "You got a joint?"

She smirked, nodding her head "Uh-huh, follow me."

She grabbed my hand, leading me to another room.

I fought to keep my eyes open as my dad pulled up into our driveway. Suppressing a yawn, I hastily loosened up my seatbelt and opened up the door. "I'm surprised you didn't fall asleep in the car, like you normally do!"

My dad smiled warmly at me, opening the trunk of the car. I giggled lightly, nodding my head, "Me too."

I grabbed my bag and began making my way to the front door, my dad following after me. We walked into the kitchen and my mom smiled. "Was it fun?"

I gave her a small smile, nodding my head and kissing her cheek.

"Yep, very" I yawned, stretching my arms "I'm gonna go to bed, g' night mom, dad." I kissed both of their cheeks before heading upstairs.

I walked into my room and saw Gaby standing at my balcony doors. Come on, you don't have a lot of time its almost midnight."

I nodded, quickly closing the door behind me and locking it. I threw my bag on the floor after grabbing the cupcake I bought for Jason and the little candle. I walked over to the balcony and looked at Gaby.

"I have to go to his party, looking like this?" I asked, motioning to my grey sweat pants, oversized black Jack Wills hoodie and light brown ugg boots. I was totally uncoordinated and my hair was in a messy pony tail, tendrils hanging all over my face.

"Yes! Like I said, you don't have much time. Now go! My bike is leaning against the wall around the corner, be careful and text me when you get there so I'll know that you're okay."

I nodded, giving her a hug and gently placing the cupcake in my pocket before climbing down the balcony. I slid my phone back into my pocket after texting Gaby. I got here ten minutes before twelve o'clock, so his birthday isn't over yet.

Uncomfortably, I pushed through the crowd. I noticed Alex sitting at on the sofa, laughing and talking to a girl. I made my way over to him, holding my breath for the nauseating smell of alcohol and sweat. I tapped his shoulder and he looked at me, his eyes lighting up. "Iris, you came!"

He stood up and gave me a hug, "Jason said you wouldn't be able to make it."

I sighed, "I did everything I could to get here and I wanna see Jason before his birthday's over, can you tell me where he is?"

I said hastily, not wanting to waste time. He nodded, pointing behind him. "He's out back with Monique."

I nodded, ignoring the hurtful feeling I got when he said "with Monique."

"Thanks Alex." I mumbled before pushing past him and walking towards the back. I walked out the sliding door, seeing a group of people on the opposite side of the pool. All of them sitting close together in a tight circle, smoke surrounding them. Jason was sitting next to a girl wearing a red dress, Monique. His back was facing me as I made my way closer to them.

Holding my breath once again, to avoid breathing in smoke, I tapped on his shoulder. He twisted his head to look at me and his eyes widened. Quickly standing to his feet, he whispered in shock.

"Iris...you came?"

I nodded, taking a couple of steps back from him, away from the smoke, before breathing normally again. He noticed taking a couple of steps back from him, away from the smoke, before breathing normally again. He noticed and grabbed my hand, pulling me to the other side of the pool and towards one of the pool chairs. He sat down and pulled me onto his lap, his eyes were slightly red and droopy, like that night he came to me.

"Happy birthday." I smiled, wrapping my arms around his neck and kissing his cheek. He held onto my waist, his face nuzzled into my shoulder.

"I thought you weren't coming."

I sighed, "I wasn't going to but that was until I found it was your birthday." I pulled back and glared at him. "Why didn't you tell me that?"

He sighed, shrugging his shoulders "I didn't think it was important."

I frowned, my fingers tangling in his hair. "Jase, of course its important to me. Anything that involves you is important to me. I know I'm not really dressed to impress but don't let that trample the fact that I wanted to be here."

He smiled, biting his lip. "You look beautiful, no matter what and I'm happy you're here." He nodded his head, "Really, really happy!"

I smiled, reaching into my hoodie pocket and taking out the cupcake I bought him at the fundraiser, surprised that the plastic box it was in protected it so well. I popped open the plastic lid, pulling out the candle and sliding it in through the cream, just so half of it was still showing. I

looked up at him and he was smiling at me. "Do you have a lighter?"

He nodded, pulling it out of his pocket. I lit the candle and took a deep breath, starting to sing softly:

"Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Jason,
Happy Birthday to you.
I love you today,
I love you always,
I'll love you forever,
Happy birthday to you."

He chuckled, blowing out the candle before taking it out of my hand and placing it on the chair next to us. He cupped my cheeks, pulling me into a kiss. "Thank you, baby. That's the best birthday gift ever."

I giggled, "Liar."

He smiled, shaking his head "No, I'm serious."

I sighed, turning around and sitting in between his legs, my back against his chest "I'm glad you like it..... I'm exhausted." I mumbled, laying my head back on his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around me, kissing my temple.

"Long day?"

I nodded, tilting my head to look at him. "Yeah.. I normally fall asleep in the car every year but I couldn't this time because I had to get to you."

He bit his lip, his eyes boring into mine. "Nobody's ever done anything like that for me before."

I flushed, shrugging my shoulders and looking down at his arms "I couldn't miss your birthday."

He kissed my cheek, whispering quietly against my skin. "Are you gonna sleep over?"

I bit my lip, running my finger over his tattoos. "If that's okay with you."

"You don't have church?" He raised an eyebrow and I shook my head.

"No, my dad always let's me sleep in after today. He knows how exhausting it is."

He smiled, "Great."

I furrowed my eyebrows, looking a the watch on his arm "Is this new?"

He nodded his head, biting his lip "Yeah, Monique bought it for my birthday."

I frowned, "Oh... And I got you a cupcake." I said bitterly, feeling terrible now.

"Hey, no." He lifted me up, turning me around so I would straddle him. He pecked my lips, his arms circling around my waist "I love you, baby and I love that you made such an effort to be here for me. That means more to me than this watch, than anything. YOU mean more to me than anything."

I smiled, my cheeks heating up, "Oh."

He grinned, kissing me softly on my lips before pouting out his bottom lip "You didn't say I love you back."

I giggled, wrapping my arms around his neck and pecking his lips "I love you too, Jason."
