◖ Chinese New Year | 39
Crossing his leg Jungkook sat on the couch, he used his arms like a pillow.
"I envy you, you have a daughter now." Xiumin was truly excited from the time Jungkook told him about Jay and you. It was night time when Jungkook stormed in his house, waking him up from his sleep. For a minute he just kept on smiling and blushing.
Jungkook smiled totally feeling proud.
"..whoa.." Xiumin drank a whole glass of wine, "...so her mother was really Haewon...!! You had a slightest doubt though but I still can't believe."
"Yah..!! you have been asking these questions since ages. Her mother is Haewon and she is my daughter. You know Xiu? Jay is really pretty just like her eomma."
"Aye.. that's some good news." Xiu filled his glass again, "Now what are you planning to do? Are you going to accept them?" with hesitation he asked, his eyes targeted on Jungkook for his answer.
Jungkook sighed, "There isn't any point of accepting them Xiu, they are already my family. Though she never told me about the baby but still, Jay is mine." Xiumin saw how serious Jungkook was, he regretted asking Jungkook such questions.
"..I am sorry.. Jun-"
Jungkook patted his back, "It's fine Xiumin. I am bit angry on Haewon, we did not even talked because I was busy with Jay the whole time to avoid her gaze. You know what? talking with Haewon is super awkward. We were never this way, I mean I can't even look at her straight." Jungkook rubbed his temples, old memories running through his mind, he wanted to talk with you but he know he cannot. He needs time.
"Dude, everything will be okay. You have just met your family, the woman you love. Can you believe that? Nobody gets this type of chance which you got." Xiumin being a kind friend, tried changing the mood.
"Let me show you the pictures I have clicked with Jay." Jungkook was about to swipe his mobile screen but then the sudden entry of Ruby ruined the moment. Both of them rose from the couch when she entered.
"R-Ruby..?" Jungkook stuttered, confused. She never comes uninformed, there must be something wrong.
"Hello.." she flashed a smile towards them as she walked towards Jungkook, "Sorry for sudden entry and for ruining your mini party." She spared a disgusted glance at the wine bottles and glasses placed on the table.
"I am here because I wanted to tell you something Jungkook." she playfully pushed Jungkook on the couch and signaled Xiumin to take his seat, then she landed next to Jungkook, "Jungkook, tomorrow my father have arranged a special party on occasion of Chinese new year. There will be family and some close friends. My father wants you to come and join us. Practically, he wants to show off his soon son-in-law to be." Ruby laced her fingers with his as she smiled, batting her eyelashes.
"Aa.. Ruby..but..I have to atten-"
"No way Jungkook, I know you will be giving such excuses that's why I have personally came here to invite you. You will be coming with me and that's final." She placed her words, she can be stubborn sometimes.
"But-" Jungkook was cut off by a quick peck. She got up from the couch.
"Tomorrow, at 7 PM sharp." she waved and before he could say anything, she left.
"Jungkook, what are you going to do?" Xiumin scooted towards him as he saw how tensed Jungkook was. He knew Jungkook wanted to spend time with you and Jay on the occasion of Chinese new year but Ruby ruined everything.
"I don't know Xiu, I wanted to spend this new year with them but now-" he paused, his heart getting heavy.
He sighed.

"Appa will be coming right?"
You turned to see Jay looking at you, "Jay, have you cleaned your room?" you ignored her question from earlier.
"Yes, I have." she replied as she walked towards you, "Appa will come right? Its Chinese New Year today and we have brought lanterns and food. Will he-"
"Jay, stop asking question and help me." you left the kitchen. She was asking same thing since morning and you didn't had any answer. You walked towards the packets of red lanterns which you had bought from the market this morning, "Jay, come on and help me to fix this." you shouted. Jay walked outside with a sulky face.
"Yah don't be sad aegi, come on take this." you handed her a packet of lantern, "Stick them in the window and balcony." you said.
+
She walked with Jungkook, their fingers laced together. They bowed to the elders and random people together, receiving blessings from them. Jungkook was totally out of his mind, those people with whom he was spending his new year wasn't even his. Ruby grinned at him, she was finally happy, Jungkook by her side was all she wanted on this new year.
"Ruby, can I-"
"No Jungkook. Today I want you all for myself." she replied bitterly, forcing him to walk with her towards the food counter.
"See, we have many things served here." she handed him the plate, dropping some dumplings on it.
"Taste it. We have some variety of fishes too." she tucked her hair behind her ears, "Then I have something to show you." she smiled.
Jungkook faked a smile, slowly picking the dumpling with his chopsticks, he forced it in his mouth. It was already half past nine. Atleast he wanted to see you and his daughter before the night ends.
+
"Jay.." you shouted from the hall, "Jay, come outside." you plated the dumplings which you had made for her, "Jay.. I said come outside. Aish..this kid."
"What?" Finally she came, you saw the dress she was wearing, it was bought by you. A-line pastel colour dress, her hair properly set on place with the help of a pink hairband. You smiled, she looks cute when she wears a dress but you also know she hates skirts and dresses.
"Come here aegi." you spread your arms for her, she walked towards you with a sullen face, burying her face in the crook of your neck, "You look pretty. Ulzzag." you chuckled, patting her back slowly, inhaling her floral scent.
She giggled, "Aniyo, ulzzag word suits only for my appa." your heart skipped a beat, no matter how much you try, she won't be forgetting Jungkook. You pulled her from the hug.
"Haejung-ah, why do you keep remembering your appa? I told you that he is busy. Also, I warned you right away, never call him appa in public arraseo?" your voice raised.
You saw her pursing her lips, she is growing weak, she needs to be strong you thought. She can't depend on him, you never raised her to depend on someone. Jungkook has his family life too. There will be moments when he cannot be with you because his priority will always be Ruby and you need to accept the fact.
"Arraseo." she replied looking elsewhere.
"Watch your words kiddo, don't be rude and-" you were cut off by the door bell.
"Appa.." Jay quickly ran towards the door. With a smile on her face, she opened expecting Jungkook but instead she saw Jaehwa, Yoongi, and Jackson standing with paper bags.
"Happy New Year...!!!" they wished her in unison.
"Same to you." Jay lazily bowed and walked towards you.
"What's with her?" Jackson asked and you mouthed "Jungkook"
They all understood the situation, the little girl stood at the balcony watching the red lanterns which were hung by you.
"I knew this will happen." Yoongi groaned as he landed next to you, stuffing the pillows behind him, he rested on it lazily, "That bunny boy is so irresponsible. Aish..son of-"
"Yoongi.." Jackson covered his mouth, "Tsk, no cursing. Its New Year."
"Aegi, do you know what Jackson have brought for you?"
The little girl turned and saw the Elsa doll.
"Come here and take this." Jaehwa called her as she showed her the doll. Jay strolled towards her, she wasn't excited even after seeing her favourite doll.
"Yah.. do you know what I eat for becoming more handsome?" Jackson asked as he tried a weak attempt of changing her mood.
"Rice." Jay replied, unamused and Yoongi burst into laughter.
"You should have eaten lamb skewers instead." he snorted.
"Yah..you.."
"Stop it guys. Let's eat now." you shouted at them who were ready to kill each other.
While you were engaged in arranging the plates and the things they had brought, Jaehwa was busy making her laugh.
"Do you wanna see Yoongi ahjussi dressed in a girl's costume?" she whispered but loud enough for everyone to hear.
"Yah.. what are you talking about? Ani.. you cannot..."
Before Yoongi could reach towards Jaehwa, she was already showing his old photos.
Jay snorted, holding her belly, "Ahjussi looks pretty though." she laughed and your heart fell at ease. Atleast her mood changed.
Yoongi stopped at his tracks as he saw her laughing till her heart content, a smile was crept on his face, the photos were reason for her laughter and he did not even mind Jaehwa showing her some more.
He looked at you and you just smiled giving him a nod.

"Jungkook, come here. There will be fireworks soon." Ruby grabbed his hand as they stood still with other people on the open ground.
"New year without firework is a waste." Ruby muttered, her eyes targeted on the sky, "You know Jungkook? As a child, I always wanted my dad to watch fireworks with me but it never happened." her voice was soft, Jungkook averted his eyes towards her, they were sparkling and it was due to tears. It reminded him about his own family. His father too use to be busy with business. He hardly remember a moment when his father was there by his side. He learned that both of them were passengers of same train.
"He use to be busy in his work. I wish he would have spent some time with me." she slowly rested her head on his shoulder.
A guilt aroused in his mind. He started feeling disheartened, not for her but for his own daughter. He knew she must be waiting for him like every other kid, expecting him to spend some time with her just like the way he use to wait for his father.
He sighed heavily, he had already missed so many beautiful moments. He should've been there with you during those months when you were pregnant, he should've been there when you gave birth to Jay, he should've been there when she took her first step, he should've been there with her on every special occasion. He know its your fault of not telling him sooner, he can blame it on you but then today, he has authority to think and act accordingly. There is no one to stop him now.
If its not now then its never...
"Ruby." he breathed heavily, she raised her head to look at him, her eyebrows snapped together.
"What?"
"I need to go.." he released himself from her grip.
"Jungkook where-"
"Please.." he gripped her hands, "I need to go..." he pleaded, she saw his eyes turned slightly misty.
"Jungkook where are you going? Fire-" Jungkook cupped her cheeks.
"Let me go... I need to go. Please don't ask any questions. I need to change something... Please.." he pressed his last words and without waiting for any response, he ran from the site, hurriedly.
Ruby gazed at him, something was different today, he was different today. She was pinned to ground, unable to move as he left her alone.
People started cheering and clapping when the firework started.
That night, a father struggled to change something before history repeats itself...

Jay was peacefully snuggling with Yoongi, watching some random show related to new year while Jackson and Jaehwa were talking, planning their weekend together.
You went to the kitchen and was about to wash the dishes but stopped when the door bell rang.
Jaehwa was the one to open the door. Her eyes gaped when she saw Jungkook standing at the entrance, his coat hanging on his arm. He averted his eyes towards Jay who hopped from Yoongi's lap screaming "appa". Jungkook walk passed Jaehwa and collected the little girl in his arms, pecking her cheek. Everybody stood shocked. You ran outside when you heard Jay screaming 'appa'. You never expected him to return, you never thought he will be coming, you never thought he might actually accept Jay. Many questions bombarded your mind but pushing them aside, you concentrated on them.
"You are late." she pouted, wrapping her legs around his waist, hugging him tighter.
"Arraseo, Mianhe.." he chuckled a deep one, "Let's go to see the fireworks, shall we?" he asked.
She nodded as she looked at him.
"Ani, its already late." Yoongi muttered, flabbergasting, "Don't take her outside." he warned him, rolling his eyes at Jungkook.
Jaehwa and Jackson did not even spoke anything, they just stood beside Yoongi. They never go against Yoongi. Jungkook averted his eyes towards you and saw nothing but an expressionless face. You cannot go against Yoongi, no matter how badly you wanted Jungkook to take his daughter for watching the fireworks but then you cannot.
"Okay." Jungkook replied as he placed his coat on the side table and walked inside the hall after removing his shoes with one hand.
After taking a brief look at them, he dug his hand inside his pocket.
Jungkook walked towards the balcony, you saw he was busy talking with someone on the phone. He was still holding Jay, the little girl was busy listening to her father's conversation, her arms wrapped around his neck. Nobody dared following him. You saw he hung the call and dropped the device in his pocket.
"I knew this will be happening." you all heard him saying as you were busy gazing at them.
"Aegi do you wanna see the fireworks?" he asked the little girl. She nodded, grinning.
"Just wait.." Jungkook said pointing towards the sky, "See the magic, boom."
Her eyes sparkled in joy when she saw fireworks whirling forming spirals, some shooting up straight in the air, the sky dazzled as if a galaxy exploded, shimmery colour enhancing the beauty, some shattered into pieces, whirling, whisking. Beautiful colours filled the sky.
"Whoa..." Jay clutched his shirt in excitement, her mouth wide open, she did not even blinked. You all walked towards the balcony to enjoy the show. It was one of the most outstanding view, you even saw few people of your building standing in their balcony watching the fireworks as it was unexpected at this hour, there were crowd even on the road to see the fireworks. People were amazed, they had never seen such an awesome show of fireworks in the city. Such events generally happens in the open grounds and near bridges or river side.
You averted your eyes at Jay, her face was glowing, her hair dancing in the rhythm with the wind, her eyes never leaving the sky. You knew this was done by Jungkook and this was the moment you realise how much he loves her.
You looked at Jungkook, he was already gazing at you. He averted his eyes when your eyes met his, avoiding the eye contact.
Yoongi was watching everything from side. He looked away smiling, now he can be rest assure about the kid, she is in safe hands. All the thoughts he had about Jungkook disappeared in a thin line due to this small act. A father who can make his daughter happy without even thinking about money can do anything for her. He exhaled heavily, he is not afraid because now you both have Jungkook.
