The walls hate me
~
I found myself walking the hallways once again, though this time with documents in hand. Hange had barged in my office, the second time today, and told me to help them with hading out documents to the Corporals. And of course as the kind person I am, I said yes.
Bad idea.
I had two more sets to give out then I could go back to my own boring work, I sigh reading the name from on top of the first page, Mike. I walked over to his office and when I had arrived at his door I realised I couldn't open it, the heavy stacks of papers were making my arms numb.
I knocked with my foot and a soft sound came from the other side, he was telling me to come inside. "I'm sorry Mike but my hands are pretty full right now, can you please open the door for me-" the door opened before I could finish my sentence, revealing his tall figure.
Mike seemed scary to some but in reality he's a kind guy, the poor man cried over a bug after it was crushed over by Levi when we were cleaning. "Where do you want me to put these?" I asked with a smile, he pointed to the dark wooden desk and I moved to place them down. "There you go~" I sang then turned back to the door.
"Thank you." The tall man said as I walked through the door, I turned my head and smiled at him. I walked out looking down at the name of the person I was supposed to deliver the last papers to next, his name staring back at me. I bit my lip as the memories from earlier came flooding back, I tried to shake them away as best as I could. I stared at the door, breathing in. I knocked with my foot against the door awaiting a response.
Nothing.
That's weird, maybe he's doing something.
"I'm coming in." I say letting myself in, at least if he was in here he knew I was entering, but when the door fully opened the empty chair stared at me with loneliness. "I guess he's not here after all." I sigh about to step towards his desk to relieve my arms from the pain of the heavy papers, though right then, I felt a presence behind me.
"What are you doing?" I froze at his familiar words turning my head, he was standing in the door way; arms crossed over his chest with narrow eyes, his stare felt ice cold able to leave goosebumps on my skin.
"I'm helping Hange hand out papers, this is for you." I lifted the papers up to show him but his eyes remained on mine, we shared eyes for a while. I felt myself slipping away into his gaze, pulling me inside like I was under a spell. I cleared my throat getting myself back on track, I looked away not daring to fall into his eyes again. "Where should I put these?" I say calmly.
"Desk." He ordered though normally I would throw a fuss on him ordering me around, this time though I did as he said as I wanted to get back to my own room as quickly as possible. I placed them down reliving my arms from the weight, I shook them but as I expected they started feeling like pins and needles were attacked me.
I turned for the door but instead of the door I was met with Levi's silver blue eyes, this time much closer. "Captain-" I began but I felt the most excruciating pressure on my arm, he was holding it. It wasn't a harsh hold but since my arms were under attack it felt like a titan was standing on it. "My arm." I say with a wince.
He realised the pain I was feeling under his grasp and took his hand away, but his eyes still locked with mine. We stood there for what felt like weeks yet at the same time it felt like a split second, I opened my mouth to speak, "I have to go finish my work." I state, it was hard enough to face him but this closeness was too much.
He didn't say anything nor did he try to stop me, I walked out and down the corridor. When I got to my room I could feel my heart racing against my ribs, my face was burning and I couldn't control my breathing any longer.
What's up with me.

[4 days later~]
I was sat in the lunch-hall, my face buried into my arm. Four days had past since the incident took place, I haven't seen nor have I talked to him since that day. I was too embarrassed to. It was early in the morning so mostly no one was awake nor in the lunch-hall, the few people who were insane enough to be up at such an hour were myself and Commander eyebrow.
I felt so tired like I hadn't slept in days, I remained with my head down trying not to fall asleep. "Y/n." I heard Erwin say, my name softly falling out of his mouth but I couldn't pick my head up so instead I hummed letting him know I heard him. "You don't always have to wake up this early you know." I sighed.
"Yeah well I could say the same to you." My reply muffled, "plus you know if I sleep in any longer I won't be able to get up." Sleep was something I truly struggled with, it was either too much sleep or too little, I could never get in between.
After a few minutes I finally build up the will strength to pull myself up, my head rested into my palms as my elbows were pressed against the hard wooden table. Even though I wasn't laid face first on the table any longer my eyes still refused to open, my ears remained to be my only sense.
"Oh by the way, you will have to train the cadets today." The blonde next to me stated, with his words all my tiredness fell out of my eyes as they shot open looking at the man.
"WHAT!?" I looked at him letting him know that his next words would better be a 'oh no never mind' or else he would be a dead man. "Wasn't Captain short stack supposed to do that?" I asked with hope he got it wrong.
It wasn't that I hated being around the cadets or that I didn't want to help and train them, no. The problem was that I was way too tired and way too busy to actually do it, also if I had to help while Levi was there I don't fucking know if I could. He was already way too much on my mind, having to teach close combat with him wasn't going to help my case.
"Well of course he is, you're helping." My jaw dropped, it was like he read my mind. He had a slight grin on his face as he looked at my distorted one.
He's up to something.
Right when I was about to protest I felt two pairs of hands on both of my shoulders, my body stiffen under the sudden touch. "Good morning my stunning Y/n~" after hearing their voice I sighed, then looked over my shoulder at them. They seemed in quite a joyful mood... more than usual.
What's going on...?
"Hello Hange." I said narrowing my eyes at them trying to figure out what was going on, but of course to no avail. They wore a large grin, which at this time of day would freak anyone out. They looked down at me with a soft but mischievous look. "How did you sleep." I tried to break the silence that had fallen between the three of us.
"Oh I slept quite well, thank you. How about you?" They asked as they sat down next to me with a soft thump.
"Same here." I say while pushing the plate I had my bread on towards them, I wasn't hungry at such an hour. What I had told them was a slight lie, but them knowing about my night terrors will only worry them which I would rather avoid.
"That's good~" they sang before taking a bite out of the bread, they munched on it for a bit before quickly turning back to me. This time their look seemed even more creepy. "I heard you're gonna train the cadets today." They began, giggling in between their words. "With shorty." They winked.
"HOW DID YOU-" I turned to Erwin, who was just looking at his papers like he wasn't even with us. My head shot back to Hange as they chuckled away. "Just for your information, I was forced to. It wasn't my choice." I said folding my arms.
Right then, the thump that came from the empty sit in front of me, caused my eyes to travel to the person who had arrived. My eyes fell on him; his dark raven hair sparkled from the small patches of sunlight in the lunch-hall, he wore his usual uniform with the cravat that completed his look. My eyes followed his movements as he sat down with tea cup in hand, the eye bags under his silver eyes looked like he hasn't slept in days.
"Oh speak of the devil." Hange said eyeing him. He gave them a glare then his typical 'tch' then looked at me, my heart felt like it stopped along with everything around me. Everything felt like it was in slow motion, I couldn't speak nor move.
"Oh, wasn't expecting for you to be here so early." Hange presided farther, normally Levi would be in his room until we started training or cleaning, he wouldn't bother with breakfast. He gave them a cold look before rolling his eyes, his eyes landed on mine and we kept it like that for a bit.
"Boo" I jumped at the sudden sound, I shot my head round to see that Alden was there all bright and smiley. "Hehe, I scared you." He snickered to himself as he placed a plate in front of me.
"What's with people making me jump today." I muttered irritated to myself as I watched his arm leave from my sight leaving the food behind, he went over to the end of the table next to Hange and sat down. "I'm not hungry." I stated looking at my food then at him.
"You have things to do today so eat up." Alden simply said while shoving the bread he had in hand inside his mouth, I looked down and picked up my own bringing it up to my lips taking a small bite out of it.
I'm really not hungry.
"Levi, where's your food?" Erwin's deep voice finally appeared after so long of being hidden, he eyed Levi and then me. "Y/n why aren't you eating yours?" I froze then let out a breath.
"I'm not hungry."
I looked over at my plate then at the empty spot in front of Levi, bringing my hand up to my plate I pushed it slowly towards the man. I couldn't eat it so giving it to someone else who would is a better choice, well if he doesn't push it away because I already touched it.
I hope he doesn't.
"Well it better go for a good use." I said standing up feeling the eyes from around the table on me. "I need to finish getting ready." With that I walked out feeling my heart beating like there was no tomorrow.
~Levi's pov~
He sat in complete disbelief staring down at the plate in front of him, he couldn't understand why you had done this even if it wasn't much. He felt everyone's eyes on him but he couldn't care less, all he focused on was the weird warm feeling inside his chest. Though he could swear he had never felt this warmth before it felt familiar somehow.
Hange and Erwin stared at each other with grins that could give even a titan nightmares, they snickered at the short mans new aura.
He picked the bread up, slowly bringing it to his lips. Everyone was shook after he had taken a bite from the end you had before, they all stared in disbelief as the now stoic man ate his bread in silence.
Normally he wouldn't have even touched the same bread someone else had, but taking a bite out of the same spot that you had got them confused. It would had been expected that he would have cut that part off or had taken the bite from the other end.
"Tch, what the fuck are you dumb fucks looking at?" He said glaring at every single person in the room.

[time skip]
"Alright bitches!" I shouted to get everyone's attention, they all turned they're heads at me as my insult caught their ears. "Today myself and Corporal Levi will be taking over your training." I say as they all took their stance; right hand over their hearts while the other rapped around their backs, their gazes straight forward with a serious expression.
"I am aware that you all have been undergoing ODM gear training, and as well reaction training too." I said standing in front of all of them, Levi on my right with his arms over his chest observing over them. "Todays training will be hand to hand combat." As my words left my mouth I could hear everyone whispering to themselves.
'Why do we even do hand to hand combat?'
'We won't need it.'
'Who's gonna throw hands with a titan?'
All these comments lingered around the crowd of amateurs, I cleared my throat as their eyes turned to me and their chatter disappeared. "Of course, I am aware of what you're all thinking. Hand to hand combat will never be useful as there is no one that crazy to go beat up a titan bare handed." I say looking over their faces, they awaited to hear my point.
"Though, being in titan territory with only a blade and broken ODM gear without being prepared is something we like to avoid." I let out stopping for a breather. "And don't forget, titans won't be the only enemy you might come across." I watch their faces turn to a weird expression.
I knew from experience that those things weren't the only monsters walking on the same grounds as us. I tried to clear my throat as it had gone dry from all this shouting, I was trying to get back to my orders but I couldn't.
I need water.
Then Levi stepped forward giving me a slight look letting me know he would take over. "With that said, I want you all to get into pairs." They stood there just staring back at him. "Make it today!" They all started shifting around, some stayed where they were. The raven haired man walked over to a wooden crate, picking it up and placing it under his left arm while he took one of the wooden daggers with his right hand throwing it towards one of the pairs.
"I want to see what you can do first." He said as he handed out the harmless weapons to everyone. "Then me and Captain L/n will give you an example and then you can reflect on what you have to work on." He said with a simple tone, though the way he referred to me made my chest feel heavy.
L/n...
We watched as everyone started to throw themselves at their partners, Levi went around to give instructions as I just stood there watching from the front. None of them actually had a good and steady stance, their legs were too stiff and their arms too sloppy.
I watched Levi as he made his way around the groups, his body swaying with his movements. For a short man he sure had a nice body to look at.
"That's enough." He let out in a loud tone, his stoic voice brung my attention back to reality. A reality where I could never look at him in anyway but as a fellow Corporal. "I've seen plenty." He turned to me and my body stiffened, "I think we should show these brats how it's done." I look at him lost for words, his look got me speechless.
"Yes, I think we should." I reply after pulling myself together, I watched as he walked over to the wooden crate that was only a few feet away taking out two daggers then throwing one to me. He came closer now standing in front of me leaving a two or so meters distance as he looked me up and down.
"Well this won't take long, so don't get too comfortable." He told the cadets, I glared towards him knowing exactly what he had meant by that.
Damn short basted.
"Oh don't worry, I'm sure it won't." I left the smug smile linger on my lips for a bit, he took his stance and I did the same not long after. He awaited my attack but I let him wait, I was planning to get him by surprise or maybe he would strike first. Though he kept his ground, not moving towards me nor letting himself relax.
He's smart.
I flung towards him letting my feet float over the ground letting my body cut through the wind; bringing my right hand that held the fake blade up to his face, preparing the other to strike next. He grabbed my right wrist with his left leaving himself open, I brung my other hand forming it into a fist pushing against the wind. But he caught it.
What?!
He was completely open, how could he catch that?
Before he could pull me closer for a kick in the stomach, I pushed myself away wiping the sweat off my forehead. I've never fought him before and I was expecting for him to be good, but damn this was on some other level.
Even before I could catch my breath properly he flew towards me, cutting himself through the air. He was going for a chokehold it was obvious even so he was so quick I couldn't react in time, his arm snaked around my neck holding me tight. I pressed my hands on his forearm digging my nails into his skin, as much as I struggled he didn't budge.
"Given up yet?" His hot breath brushed my ear as his words fell out of his stupid mouth. But what he couldn't see was that my leg was snaking it's way around his own, pulling it, his balance crippled as he started to fall back; turning my body quickly and grabbing both of his lower forearms pinning him down as we both hit the ground.
"I haven't even started." I smirk at him our faces inches apart, but my victory didn't last long as he pushed himself up turning me off him. Switching our places, he looked at me with what seemed like a smirk.
Did he just-
He brung his blade up to my face holding my wrist with only one hand, I struggled to free myself but failed. Even with one hand he could trap me under him. Right before he got the chance to touch his fake blade against my skin I had wiggled one hand free; grabbing and pushing his hand away, grabbing my own useless dagger and bringing myself up.
I couldn't pin him a second time but I had the advantage of surprise as he wasn't expecting for me to slip through his grip; I grabbed his right wrist pulling him towards me but as much as I had hoped for him to fall or at least stumble towards me, he only pulled me back in.
Pushing my leg forward to trip him, he took notice of it and pulled his leg back only giving me time to bring my other hand up to his side. In my surprise I had gotten a pretty good hit, but my luck soon ran out as he pulled my legs with his bringing me back to the grown.
I let out a painful groan as my body harshly made contact with the hard ground, loosing my wooden weapon in the process. I watched his feet as they inched closer as he assumed I was finished, I let the smirk creep back on my lips; pulling my hands up to his ankles pulling them forward causing for him to stumble back hitting the ground, I pushed my body up then flung at him grabbing my dagger.
I landed on top of him once more; both of my legs on either side of him, and letting myself fall onto his hard abdomen. But this time I didn't wait for him to react, I brung the hand with the dagger to his chest pressing it against him. But right when my blade made contact with him I felt a slight pressure onto my side, I panted looking over to see Levi's own blade pressing against me.
"Fuck." I said patting, "you're good" I let out through breaths.
"I know."
I rolled my eyes and after a few seconds I pulled myself off him, extending my hand for him to take. He looked at it then at my eyes and to my surprise he had taken it. I pulled him up he started wiping his hand onto his handkerchief which had appeared out of nowhere.
Sighing I looked over to the grown of stunned cadets, all looking at us like they just witnessed a murder. "And that's how you do it." I said with my smirk wide, they just looked at us with wide eyes. I could see Levi from the corner of my eye brushing himself clean.
Weirdo.
"Wait!" One of the kids said, "who won?!" They all said, me and Levi looked at each other.
"Well I suppose it was a tie." I say shrugging, though I looked unbothered this little example was one of the best fights I've had in a while.
Levi sure is something.
"ALRIGHT!" I yelled to get everyone's attention as they all started to chatter amongst themselves again. "I want to see you all do what me and short ass did." I say as I felt a glare coming from beside me.

[time skip after training]
I walked over to where I had placed my towel and my water bottle, we had finished our training and most of the cadets had left to shower while the few that remained were past out on the training ground. "That was quite good." The deep cold voice caused me to turn my gaze catching his.
"Good? I never would have thought I would get a complement out of you." I raised an eyebrow.
"You're not." He said simply as he reach for his own towel, he had taken his jacket off some time through training and his arms were clear as day. For his height you would think he wouldn't have much muscle but fuck those arms.
As I studied them my eyes caught onto something, "hey, what's that?" I asked, it seemed like a fresh wound; it was similar to a carpet burn but it was more scratchy, and there were a few places where some blood could be seen. Had he gotten it when we were doing the example?
"Tch nothing." He said brushing me off as he pressed the towel onto his face whipping it, I raised an eyebrow.
"Oh really." I walked over pressing my finger onto it which caused for him to flinch slightly.
"What the fuck?" He said looking at me with deadly eyes, but I only sighed grabbing my things and some of his only leaving him with the towel.
"Come on." Those were the only words I said, of course I wasn't expecting for him to follow but he had. We walked down the corridors towards the infirmary, since it was lunch most of the nurses had gone for their own lunch so it was only the two of us.
"Sit please." I spoke walking over to the sink to clean my hands and then grab some things, he did as I said and when I came back I froze. He had taken his shirt off. I shook my head.
No Y/n, don't go there.
I sat the things down on a stool then grabbing one for myself sitting close to him, I examined his wound which wasn't that bad but it could get infected easily. It was a little under three inches wide and approximately the same in width. "I forgot how dangerous I can be." I say snickering at my own joke.
I started to clean it out, "brings me back to when we were in the forest." I said gently, taking care of him, he only hummed in response. "This is gonna sting a little." I said as I brought the cotton ball, that had some disinfectant on it, up to the wound. Dabbing it I felt his breath on my shoulder, we were so close to each other.
"Where did you learn how to fight like that?" His sudden question took me completely off guard.
"I could ask you the same thing." I said trying to avoid the truth.
"I asked first." He said sternly but I remained quite, I didn't know wether I should tell him or not. After a few seconds, which truthfully felt like years, he sighed before he spoke. "I was brought up in the underground." He said simply, "I had to learn how to defend myself if I hadn't, we wouldn't have crossed paths." He said the last part with a softer tone.
"You make it sound like that's a bad thing." I said.
"Tch, maybe it is." He said which for some reason made my heart sink, I didn't like the idea of not have met him. Not having him piss me off every five minutes felt wrong, and honestly made me feel empty.
"I guess you truly do hate me, huh." I let out with a different tone than I intended, it had more pain than I would've liked it to have.
"That's.. thats not what I meant." He spoke with a more softer tone which made me feel a bit better, I let silence fall between us again. The only sound was our synced heartbeats, I was wrapping his arm before I let the words slip through my lips.
"My father" I said letting it sink it. "He was the person who taught me how to fight."
And kill.
I tied the bandage softly before looking at him, his eyes held so much pain. This was the first time he'd opened up to me which was surprising in itself, but at the same time this was my first time to open up to anyone about my past except of Erwin. It wasn't much but this small information that I had shared with him made my chest feel less tight.
I felt my face heat up at how close we were, I could see every little detail of his face; the dark circles that shaped his eyes, the small creases in his skin along with the shadows which shaped his entire face. I looked at his lips and though I myself wasn't pushing towards them I saw them getting closer and closer, but I didn't pull myself up. I couldn't.
"Hey, Y/n are you here? The cadets said you came this way-" Aldens voice made me jump up from where I was sitting, I looked at him with wide eyes.
Why does this keep happening?!
"Sorry for interrupting..." he said looking between us.
"No, you didn't interrupt anything!" I said jumping up out of my seat, getting things off the stool and heading over to where I had gotten them from to place them back.
"Tch."
"So what's up?" I said turning back to Alden, he had a massive grin splattered on his stupid face.
"Well I was going to come get you for lunch." He looks back at Levi, "but I suppose you had something else in mind." If my face wasn't flushed before now it was as red as a tomato.
"ALDEN!" I said as he started to walk out, "WE WEREN'T- THAT WAS-"
"Yeah yeah."
Why is it always me.
