[1 week later]

The air felt heavy, it was the day of the expedition and everyone was tensed and anxious. "Y/NNNNN~" well except of them. I let out a relieved sigh, seeing Hange excited made me a bit less anxious.

"Hey Hange." I say with a smile turning around to face them. They already had their ODM gear on along with their goggles, they flung at me hugging me tightly while patting my head.

For walls sake my hair!

"HANGE!" I say frustrated with them for ruining my hair, but they didn't budge. They smelled nicer than usual. Levi. He must've made them shower this morning. I giggled at the thought of Levi struggling to get Hange in the bath, while Hange gave me a weird look but I brushed it off and started to walk towards the meeting room.

We had to have a last meeting before every expedition to remind ourselves of what we are set to do. Me and Hange walked down the halls, their arm was around my neck as they spoke of all the exiting things they were planing on doing on this expedition.

Hange and I entered the meeting room, having the whole room turn their heads to us, I wave sarcastically then turn to sit in my seat. I felt Levi's stare on me, though when I looked up the death glare I was expecting was replaced with a emotionless look. His look wasn't cold or irritated, it was just a look.

"Alright, now that everyone is here let's go over our targets." Erwins voice broke my and Levi's eye contact. "The main focus of this mission is to find herbs, which Corporal Michie and Corporal Hange's squad will be in charge of." He paused for a second, "and the rest will be assisting them or keeping a look out for any titans." Erwin continued to talk about minor details that I couldn't give two shits about.

After the meeting me and Hange went separate ways to our rooms to check if we had everything. I walked in my room, my eyes scanning around for anything while I was checking off things in my head. "I have everything..." I said to myself, then right when I was about to turn and leave my eyes landed on the soft white cloth that was sitting quietly on my vanity. Levi's handkerchief. I walked over grabbing it gently, my fingers traced over the stitches I have made attaching the slightly different coloured pice of yellowish white fabric.

The side which was burned off was now replaced with a bit of one of my shirts, which was the only fabric that was close enough to the colour of the original handkerchief. If I took it now and went to put it back in the box, Levi wouldn't notice it was gone right? I couldn't put it back when we came back since I wouldn't have time, Hange would probably need me to help with any injured soldiers.

I sigh taking the soft material and then placing it in my pocket, turning on my heal and heading out the door towards Levi's office.

[Levis pov]

He walked back into his office for the last time today, he was planning to have a few minutes to himself before having to go back out there. He relaxed his face taking in a deep breath and then releasing it, then walking over to his desk. He kneeled down to open a drawer at the bottom of it, inside was the butterfly carved wooden box, he grabbed it gently placing it down in front of him on the desk.

He opened it slowly but when the lid fell on the other side Levi's eyes widen and a hole was starting to form inside his chest. "Mothers handkerchief..." he whispered to himself in disbelief he has lost it, that handkerchief was the only thing that he had left of his mother after her pass. Even though it was in bad condition he has done his best to keep it safe.

Every time he felt hopeless and alone he would take it out of the box and hold it close to his heart, like it was his mother. He couldn't believe he lost it, he could swear on his tea that he had put it back inside the box last time he took it out.

The knock that came from the door took him out of his thoughts and his face went back to his stoic calm one despite his emotions. He walked over to the door opening it to reveal you standing there with your hands behind your back like you were hiding something, he raised an eyebrow at you, while you greeted him with a smile.

"What is it brat?" He question not expecting you to be here, he moved out of the way to let you walk inside.

[Y/ns pov]

I had wished Levi wasn't in his room so I could put the handkerchief back without him noticing but now I have to change my plan. If I just gave it to him, he would be pissed because I took it without permission, but I fixed it so he might go easy on me. Right?

I stood in front of the door with my back facing it, Levi moved to stand in front of me, his arms crossed over his chest while he waited for me to speak. "Sir, I have something to give back to you." I got straight to the point, he raised an eyebrow confused. While I slowly brought out the handkerchief extending it in front of me. His eyes widen but not just with shock but anger as well.

"That's.." he said through his teeth.

"I'm sorry for taking it without permission but I wanted to fix it and-" I was cut off by him snatching the white fabric out of my hands.

Levi was in ranged, "what the fuck is wrong with you!?" He questioned trying his best to keep his tone in control. "No one ask for you to take this!" He stepped closer causing me to step back, I was expecting something like this but this was not what I had in mind.

"I'm sorry... I just wanted to do something nice for you, I didn't mean to upset you-"

"WELL YOU DID!" He shouted in my face, I stepped back my back hitting the door. Levi was now pinning me against it, his eyebrows knitted together in anger. "Never. Touch. My. Shit. Again." He said through his teeth causing me to close my eyes tighter with his every word. I was truly shocked it was only a handkerchief, so why was he acting so violent?

"I'm sorry..." I could feel his warm breath on my face, after a second I felt him push off the door releasing me from his trap. I opened my eyes watching him go over to his desk.

"Get out." He said not even looking at me, and I did as he said.

[time skip]

People watched as we rode our horses towards the large gate  that separated the people from the danger, kids watched with amazement. I was looking forward not being able to look at the crowd, I've done this so many times but with each time it's harder and harder to look at the people we sworn to protect. They expect so much from us but with every expedition we loose more and more soldiers, and disappoint everyone.

I felt familiar eyes land on me, my gaze wondered to find dark mysterious grey eyes locking with mine. He didn't look away and neither did I, my heart felt heavy and my grip tightened on the rein. But soon our eyes shifted to the Commander.

"DEDICATE YOUR HARTS! FORWARD!" With the Commanders words we marched through the gate into titan territory.

I stepped down from my white stallion landing onto the soft grass, tying the rein around a tree. I walked over to some cadets that were taking out some equipment out of some wagons and placing them aside, the place we decided to camp at was a small abandoned village that had only 14 or so houses.

Most of the houses were brought down by nature, some had missing doors and windows along with shattered glass all around them. I glanced over to see Erwin supervising over some cadets putting up the experiment tent where Hange will make sure we had the right herbs after we collected them.

His eyes found mine he smiled and I did the same, he motioned for me to go over to him so I did as he said. "How are you cadet?" He said in a fake serious tone making me giggle a little.

"I'm as good as you can be out here." I reply looking out in the distance for any titans, my and Levi's squad were on look out while the rest assisted the Commander or Corporal Hange. "You seem quite, do you have some sort of sick plan up your sleeve or something?" I say raising a brow at the unusual quite blonde. "If you're planning on sacrificing the kids, I'm out."

"Ha no, no, not this time." I looked at him as he chuckled, this man really is insane.

"Alright well if mudder isn't on your mind what is it then?" I say curious at his change in character. "Oh it's nothing really." I turned my whole body to face his. "And why don't I believe that?" I put both of my hands onto my waist as I spoke.

"You seem stressed, is there something you want to talk about?" He said completely changing the subject, though I wish to know what was bothering him I know I can't get it out of him no matter how hard I tried. I sigh in response. "Oh that doesn't sound good." He said with concern, Erwin has always been like a father figure for me, ever since I joined the Scouts he has always been like this. Always concerned about me more than himself.

He was right that there was something on my mind, two things actually, but as much as I wanted to tell him both I couldn't. If he found out about what happened this morning he will never let it go, he would mock me for the rest of my life. "My cadets," I pause a little watching some of the new cadets try to put up the tent and failing. "They aren't ready for this. They haven't had enough time training." I complained, it was true these kids had less and less training with each year which was only making them weaker.

He was about to respond but a girl ran over to us, she only saluted the Commander. "SIR! Some titans have been spotted on the western side!" She said in panic, I straighten myself I knew we would encounter titans but I didn't expect that we would see them this early in the mission.

"How many have you seen?" The blonde calmly replied, "10 sir." Was all the girl said, Erwin thought for a second then spoke, "Corporal Y/n and Levi will be dealing with the titans while the rest of their squad will wait for further orders." He looked at me and when I heard what he said my blood started to boil, it's not just that I had to go with Captain short ass I also had to leave my squad.

As I was about to protest Erwin started to walk over to Levi, with me following close behind. Levi was with his horse, he was so small compared to his beautiful black friesian. "Captain Levi." The Commander called out grabbing Levi's attention, he turned around to salute his Commander then spotted me standing a few steps behind Erwin. "I need you and Corporal Y/n to head to the west side and engage with the titans that are coming this way." Levi didn't say a word only nodding in response.

"But Erwin what about my squad! Who will look over them!?" I say frustrated with this order. "Don't worry they're in good hands." He said with a smug smile which only made my worries grow.

Ello ello, ok so ik this is a shit chapter and pretty short but i promise the next will be better, hopefully. Ik it's short but I couldn't add the other part since it will make it too long and I don't have the attention span to write that much.
Anyway hope u guys liked it, the next will have more action and shit so yh. Also sorry for Levi's character ik it's not similar to his normal character but idk I struggle when it comes to his character.
Also sorry for any mistakes.
