Scars

Charlie gently shook Cas to wake him up. Cas asked, "Why are you waking me up?"

"You have school, assbutt."

"Nope, as I recall you said I didn't have to go today, while flirting your ass off with Hannah."

Charlie rolled her eyes, "Damn female attention always gets to me. I guess you're right. I'll call in and say you're still sick. I'm pretty sure since the scare with Dean's dad yesterday it won't be a big deal for Dean to stay home too."

Cas smiled, "Thanks, Charles. So did you and Hannah, you know?"

She laughed, "Well we were moving furniture and then we stopped and fell on the bed and things happened. Anyways, what are you and Dean planning on doing today? Hannah had to leave to go back home, but she'll be back after her shift and I also have college today."

Cas looked down at Dean's head laying on his lap. He ran his fingers through Dean's hair and smiled, "I'm sure we'll find something to do."

"Oh and Cas remember your band gig is Saturday. You have to make a point to practice some time today, tomorrow, or Saturday."

Cas sighed, only wanting to spend time with his baby. Cas returned his attention to Charlie, "So Hannah's coming back?"

Charlie nodded, "Yep."

"You really like her don't you? Most of your flings don't last more than a day and you actually want one of them to come back?"

"Yeah yeah, I know. What a big shocker, but I guess I haven't found a girl who I actually take interest in. Hannah and I share all the same interests, more than any other girl I have ever acquainted with. Most girls just want to fuck and nothing more. I was okay with that because that's all I wanted too, but now...I don't know she's different. I don't wanna screw this one up this time."

"Don't worry you won't. How could she not love you?"

Charlie smiled, "Thanks, Cassie. So you and Dean slept together?"

Cas nodded, "Uh yeah we are together now."

Charlie smiled, "I knew you two wouldn't last as friends. Dean seems like a nice kid though. He's been through a lot. Take care of him."

Charlie made breakfast while Dean slept, his chest rising and falling. Cas wondered what was he going to do on his day off with Dean.

Charlie sat and ate breakfast and then kissed my forehead goodbye. Dean was still fast asleep until about eleven when his phone rang. He answered it groggily. "Hello?"-"Mom? What do you mean?"-"I can't just pack up and leave!"-"Of course it's better than staying with dad, but that's not what I mean."-"I formed a life here, mom."-"So what if I did meet someone?! Does it make a difference? Maybe I have a place to stay!"-"With my friend!"-"Why won't you even think about it?!"-"Of course I miss you and Sammy! Why can't you move here!"-"That's what I said! Ugh, when do I have to leave?!"-"That soon?"-"But mom-"-"Fine. Bye."

Cas stared at him, "What was that about?"

"Apparently my dad has been charged with child abuse and my mother filed a restraining order against him for her, Sam, and myself. He's only going to be paying child support. So obviously, she's making me move back with her, in Kansas...I guess I have no choice, but to leave..."

"No...When do you leave?"

"Sunday morning. We have three more days together before I move basically halfways across the country, Cas..."

Cas started having a panic attack. He had just met Dean and had just gotten together, the last thing he wanted was him to move away. He wanted Dean to stay with him. He wanted them to last. Cas ran out of the room and into the bathroom. He began hyperventilating and crying continuously. Why did everything bad have to happen to him? Everything was happening so fast within the past week and all he could feel was the room spinning. Dean was banging on the door to get in and comfort him, but Cas locked it. He ended up passing out and Dean began picking the lock.

Dean swung the door open to Cas laying on the floor. Dean was just as upset as Cas. Dean started fanning him with his hand, as Cas laid in his arms on the bathroom floor. Slowly, but surely Cas came to. Dean spoke softly, "You're okay, baby. Everything is going to be okay, I promise. It's senior year. Depending on how long you will have me, but we could make this last and in a year, go off to the same college. We could live together. We just have to get through the year."

Cas nodded, believing his reassuring voice. Dean smiled, "Let's go get dressed and we can take the bus to my house so I can pick up the impala and we can just drive somewhere. Anywhere you'd like."

Cas intertwined his fingers with Dean's, "Surprise me." Dean already had a place in mind. They went into Cas' room to get changed out of their sweatpants and sweatshirts. Dean slowly pulled his off, revealing his toned abdomen. Cas couldn't help, but watch him, while he changed too. Cas noticed large scars across Dean's back, some newer and some older, when he turned around. He flinched at the sight. He waited to say something.

They stripped their clothing. Cas put on a pair of black skinny jeans and a dark blue band t-shirt of his band, The Black Wings. It had large black wings on the back with the logo on the front in big lettering. Dean wore normal blue jeans with a AC/DC band t-shirt. He looked at Cas' shirt, "Do you have another one of those? I love it."

Cas pulled his off over his head, "You can have mine."

"No, I can't accept that."

"We have a whole box full of them at one of the band member's house. I only had the one and gave one to Charlie, but I can always get another."

Dean smiled and took off his own shirt, giving it to Cas to wear, while he put on his new shirt. After they switched their shirts, Cas put on his leather jacket and Dean put on Cas' sweatshirt that he claimed as his own now.

Cas smiled at Dean wearing his clothes, "Breakfast before we hit the road?"

Dean smiled, "Sounds good to me. It's pretty early to leave anyways."

"I've been up since seven. You're the one who fell back asleep," Cas chuckled.

"What did you do until I woke up?"

"Waited for you to wake up and watched you as you slept," Cas blushed.

Dean laughed, "That's not creepy at all."

"Oh shut up," Cas said, trying to hide a smile.

Dean poked Cas' side, "Hey, I don't mind, darling."

He smiled, "So what do you want for breakfast?"

"What do you have?"

Cas thought to himself, "Lets see we have eggs, sausage, pancakes, waffles, toast, cereal-"

Dean laughed, "That's a lot of breakfast foods."

"Charlie and I take breakfast very seriously. Oh and we have pie," Cas joked.

Dean immediately said, "What flavor?!"

"Peach cobbler? But you do realize I was kidding, right?"

"Well I'm not kidding. I do not kid about pie. Can I please have a large piece of that?"

Cas nodded, "Sure thing."

It was left over pie that Charlie made a few nights ago with dinner. Cas cut two large pieces from it and squirted whipped cream on top. He turned on the tv to Spongebob and the two sat there eating pie. Dean smiled at Cas and watched him laugh at the stupid things happening on the tv. Dean imagined they would last a long time. He wanted to make it last more than anything. He wasn't thinking he would exactly marry Cas because hell, they hardly knew each other.

He asked him out spur the moment, not even truly thinking about it. All he knew was that for once in his life, he wasn't scared to be alive. That he actually felt okay. He kind of saw Cas as an escape from his troubles and worries. Even that first day they met, Cas was his saving grace. Dean hadn't talked to anyone at all and didn't plan to. He was more worried about whether John would beat him or not when he came home or if he could hide and avoid it. John was against anything Dean was. He was against the piercings and tattoos and even more against Dean coming out as gay.

John hadn't always been this way. He used to treat his wife nicely and his children even nicer. He used to actually love them. Then something changed him that Dean never particularly understood. One year his father had gone into the military and came back a changed man. He was enlisted his entire life, but was never called in for an emergency until that point.

That was when things had changed. His mom worked a double shift paying for everything, while their dad was away and they were always waiting for the checks from the Marines for John's service, if they had even come that month. Mary Winchester was a busy woman, taking care of a toddler and a young child with a job like that on her hands. John was gone for a few years, only coming back for holidays, sometimes. When he came back altogether he was different. He argued with Mary more and drank a lot more. It was a mixture of the military and not having a father himself while growing up that turned him into this. Drinking always led to beating the kids or his wife. Mary put up with him for several years until she gave up and packed her things to leave.

John had kept Dean because he needed someone to help with basically taking care of him and the house. Dean grew terrified of his father. So terrified that when Maddy knocked on the door, John was beating the absolute shit out of him, close to the point that could've damaged Dean with broken bones or ruptured organs. Luckily Maddy came at that point. He was actually filled with joy watching her do that to him, something he had been terrified to do himself. Even if she killed him, he wouldn't have cared. He would've hugged her in complete happiness.

Cas put his hand on Dean's, "You okay, darling?"

Dean smiled slowly, "For once, I actually feel okay and it's all because of you."

Cas squeezed his grip and leaned over to give a quick kiss to Dean before finishing his pie. Cas was going to miss him so much. He didn't even have many friends at school. How was he to make it? With texts, calls, and video chats was his only way to see Dean in just a few days.

After they finished eating, they walked down to the bus stop, holding hands. They got a few stares as they walked onto the bus. It made Cas tense up. If someone were to say one word to them being gay, he wouldn't hold back punching them in the face.

Dean stared out the window until they got to their stop. They only had to walk a few blocks. They hadn't talked. They were both just thinking about one thing and it was how to make this relationship work or if they should just break up. Neither one of them wanted that though.

They approached Dean's house. He thanked god John wasn't home so he could just take the impala and go. Maddy came outside, seeing the two. She yelled, "Hey guys!"

They yelled, "Hey," back. She walked towards them, "How are you, Dean?"

He shrugged, "Honestly, better than ever."

"Man, you're dad is a huge asshat. I just wanted to cut off his fingers and force feed them to him."

Dean and Cas' eyes widened at her. She laughed awkwardly, "I mean that is if I was into torture. Which I'm not!"

Dean laughed, "Yeah and I'm sure you're not. Even if John does deserve to be tortured."

"If you ever need someone, give me a call," she winked.

He assumed she was talking about support, "Yeah if I ever get into trouble with him again, I'll give you a call."

She smiled deviously, "I'll start planning how it'll go down," she had been thinking about torturing John, not supporting Dean. So Dean in turn was confused by what she meant. Cas was pretty on board and just laughed at Dean being clueless.

Maddy went back inside and Dean got into the impala. He whispered, while rubbing the steering wheel, "Oh baby."

Cas turned to him, assuming Dean was talking to him, "What did you say, baby?"

"Um nothing. Let's get on the road," Dean said right away as he started up the car.

He had planned on going to this special drive-in a couple hours away, that only played classic movies. They took movies from the 20s all the way to the 80s. It was a different decade every week. This week was the 80s and playing The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueler's Day Off. The place was another thing his mom had done while his father was away from home to distract him and Sam.

Cas turned up the radio and held Dean's hand with fingers intertwined. Dean asked, "Are you going to be okay if I leave? Will we be okay?"

"There's multiple ways to talk to each other. I don't see how we won't be okay. I'll be okay. I don't think I can afford to lose you. Sometimes when you know, you know." Cas rubbed the tattoo on Dean's wrist, he could feel the bumps. He remembered Dean telling him that the tattoos were to cover scars.

"Dean, why do you have scars on your wrists?"

Dean swallowed hard, "Eh just some artwork John had done."

"Your father made these?"

Dean nodded, "Uh yeah. His abuse had various practices. If you look well enough, you can see the word fag is engraved into my wrist. He wasn't very compassionate about me coming out."

Cas kissed his wrist, "I can't even believe someone could do this to you..."

"I used to think maybe I deserved it. After that incident, which happened about 2-3 years ago, I started dating some girls. I didn't enjoy it, but it mostly got dad off my back. John wouldn't hurt me if I had a girl over. What disgusted me most was sometimes he would hit on these girls I brought home and I felt so bad for them. I stopped dating when I had enough. Dad started up again, worst than ever-"

Cas interrupted, "Is that where the scars on your back came from?"

Dean nodded slightly, "Yeah. He thought I was dating some guy and just beat the living shit out of me that night. He would take out his belt and whip me with it. In the old house, it had so many broken aspects. One particular thing was a floor board with rusty nails through it that stuck out like a sore thumb. He hit me multiple times with that bitch. He told me to pack my bags and that we were leaving by the end of the week because he couldn't stand the thought I might've been dating a guy. So Saturday rolled around and I was all packed. I had to say goodbye to my current best friend there, Kevin. Which was the one dad thought I was dating. He made racist jokes about the kid too, since he was Asian. I came here a few weeks ago. After dad finally called to enroll me in school, was when I started Monday. I didn't plan on talking to anyone. I just wanted to get my work done and pass. I didn't want to drag anyone into my life and I would have to leave again. Then, I found you."

Cas smiled a little, but frowned at everything he had just heard. Dean said, "Are there any other questions you have?"

Cas thought for a moment, "Why did your mom only take Sam?"

"I got home later on in the fight against her and my dad. I was out with a friend and walked in the door to my dad about to slap my mom. I pushed her out of the way and took the hit for her. I was knocked out for awhile. When I woke up, my mom was gone and so was Sammy. I don't know why she didn't try to carry me with Sam or something, but I was left there alone. Mom tried to get me later on, but was afraid John might try to kill her or something."

"You keep calling him John and not dad?"

"The things he's done to me, well at this point I don't think he deserves to be called dad anymore."

Cas nodded, "So you told me you aren't very open and that you don't like when people get into your business if you don't know them well? Why are you telling me all of this?"

"Someone deserves to know my story because one day I won't be able to tell it."

Cas was unsure whether Dean had been hinting at something or not. Dean spoke to change the mood, "You might want to sit back and relax. It's gonna be a long drive."

Cas kissed Dean's wrist once more. The light of the sun shined against Dean's skin and the ink of the tattoo in the right spot, for Cas to see what Dean had been talking about. It pained him to think Dean had always been pushed around, scared to be alive. Cas' only thought was he was going to take care of Dean, even miles apart. Dean would become better and happier. Dean extended a finger, not letting go of Cas' hand to turn up the volume to the radio station. Cas watched him, his everything and was concerned about his entire being.
