Saying Goodbye

The boys woke up that morning, their legs entangled with each other and the sheets. Dean woke up first. His face was inches away from Cas'. He slowly traced his fingers along Cas' face, moving a misplaced hair. Dean's hand laid against his cheek and he slowly pressed his lips against his. Cas didn't even open his eyes. He reacted by wrapping the arm he wasn't laying on around Dean's waist and pulling him closer.

Dean gently pulled away. He whispered while slowly opening his eyes to see Cas' face, "I have to leave, darling. I have a long drive ahead of me."

Cas looked down and weaved his fingers with Dean's. He spoke quietly, "I don't want you to go."

Dean kissed his forehead and mumbled against his skin, "I know, baby."

Cas sighed, "Will you remember me? Us?"

Dean chuckled, "I'll always remember and I'll talk to you everyday. It's not like we are breaking up. I'll visit soon, I promise."

Cas began crying a little. Dean pulled him into his arms, "Shh shh, baby, I got you."

He cried into Dean's muscular chest. His hands held Dean's bare back and he could feel all of the scars. It made him sob harder. Dean tried calming him with gentle loving strokes. He noticed the time that read eight o'clock. He whispered, "Cas, I really have to go. I'm going to be spending a lot of time on the road. I have to leave now if I want to make it to Kansas before midnight."

Cas nodded and sniffled while pulling away from him to sit up. Dean kissed Cas' hand before standing up to change clothes. He slid on his jeans and both articles of clothing Cas gave him which was the band shirt and sweatshirt. Cas put on a quick pair of boxers and shorts. Cas watched Dean gather his things to leave. It broke his heart to see him go. Dean looked around, "Well that should be it."

Cas quickly hugged him. Dean laughed a little, "I thought we'd say goodbye at the front door."

Cas shook his head, "I don't want to do it in front of Hannah and Charlie."

Dean cupped both of Cas' cheeks and slowly kissed his lips. He pulled away only a little, "Cas, I want you to know that last night was the best night of my entire life. You mean a lot to me."

Cas smiled and tried to hold back tears, but one managed to fall. Cas spoke, "I'm not good with goodbyes. I never have been."

Dean smiled at him, "Don't think of this as saying goodbye. Think of this as a promise that I am going to come back. I'll see you soon, my fucking cinnamon apple."

Cas sniffled again and smiled as tears welled up, "I'll see you soon, Dick Pancake."

They kissed again and hugged one long embrace. Dean sighed while pulling away from him. They exchanged glances before leaving the room together and going to the front door. Hannah and Charlie were sitting on the couch watching tv. They both stood up to say goodbye to Dean. Hannah threw her arms around Dean. She was a lot more petite than him. She said, "Bye, Dean! You better come back or Imma drag yo crusty ass back here by force."

Dean's eyes widened in horror. Cas and Charlie giggled. Charlie commented, "That's my girl right there."

Hannah let go of Dean and Charlie hugged him. She whispered so no one else could hear, "Please come back soon. Cas likes you a lot and I'd hate to see him get hurt. Plus I approve of you. If you break my approval and dump him, I am going to personally drive to Kansas and punch you in the dick. But I'm going to miss you."

Dean smiled, "I'm going to miss you too, Charlie."

Dean let go of her and stared at the three. He waved goodbye and left. He walked to the impala and threw his bag in the trunk. Then, he got into the driver's seat. They all waved one last goodbye and Dean left with only smoke behind him. Tears started to form. He tried to stay strong for Cas, but he couldn't anymore. It was killing him to leave. The sweatshirt he wore made him still feel Cas' presence even though it wasn't there. He blasted classic rock to drown out his crying.

As soon as Dean had left, Cas went into his room. He laid where Dean had laid. He closed his eyes and for just a moment it was as if Dean was there with him. He knew Dean would be coming back soon, but when? Days? Weeks? Months? What exactly defined how long soon meant?

They were each other's personal escape from the world. Now it felt as if they had nothing. Nothing to help them forget all of their troubles, nothing to hold them and tell them it was all going to be okay, nothing. What was there anymore? You only get one shot to find someone that makes you feel that way. The one person who makes it all better no matter what they say. The person that makes you feel less lonely in life. They had found each other for a reason. Then, Dean had left Cas to wonder whether he was ever going to come back. He could find someone new and just forget. Cas cried softly into his pillow. He hated feeling this way.

He just wanted Dean to stay.
