Chapter 9: Leave me alone Hulk!
Nolan O'Brian
The day was coming to an end when Nolan was called into the principal's office. He didn't question it too much knowing he was probably going to get detention. He was used to getting detention at his old school but could only wish he was wrong about it for the sole reason of confronting Sean. His idiot of a best friend just left school grounds as soon as he ordered him to stand down. And maybe it was a good thing he did. Nolan was beyond furious at him and was starting to see the bigger picture.
"Where are you going?" Nora asked him when he silently parted ways with her.
"Principal's office, probably detention." He told her without looking at her.
Nora followed him with a frown "Is it because of Elara and Sean?"
"She told you?" he asked her a bit surprised, he knew Elara was nice to his sister but didn't know she considered her a friend.
"No, Laura did" she shrugged "Speaking of Laura, that bitch knows about us. She keeps hinting at things but she almost called me 'wolf' in front of Elara today!" she whispered shouted seeming really tense.
Nolan stopped and stared into his sister's eyes "And you didn't mention it because?"
"Hey don't be mad at me, I thought she was teasing. But today she was so blunt..."
Nolan let out an exasperated sigh, he had too much on his plate right now "How would she know? Is she a witch? She smells like a human."
"Yes she does, so she's probably a witch. We'll have to watch her and make sure she doesn't spread the word about us. We don't need a war with humans."
They stopped in front of the principal's office and saw Elara sitting in the corner with puffy eyes probably waiting to be called in.
Nolan still didn't know what happened to her and for some reason, it really bothered him. "What happened to her anyway?"
"I'm not sure, after her breakdown, she wouldn't talk to us. She was quiet for the rest of the day and seemed to be somewhere else." Nora really seemed concerned about her "I like her you know. She's probably the most decent human I've ever met."
"She must be special for you to admit liking a mere Human" Nolan teased his sister. She never tried hard to befriend a human or be around one before.
"I think she is, for you to stand by her against Sean" she teased back and he groaned.
"Don't mention that idiot to me today." When Nora looked at him suspiciously he shrugged "I need to see the principal and get over with this, so I'll explain when I get home. Okay?"
Knowing she could never pressure her brother into telling her anything unless he really wanted to, Nora nodded and left after pecking his cheek and messing his hair just to annoy him.
"Hi, I'm Nolan. The principal wanted to see me."
"Take a seat Nolan, he'll see you when he's ready."
He carefully took a seat beside Elara and tried hard not to stare. But his eyes always found their way to her beautiful face...
Her puffy eyes and red nose reminded him how Elara was blocking the doorway and her friend Laura kept calling her name but she wouldn't budge. He was starting to feel irritated and tried to gently push her aside but it didn't work either. It seemed as if she was glued to the floor, and of course, he couldn't use his strength with all the students around. Nora being his twin must have felt his irritation because even though she didn't have this class she joined him and asked him what was wrong. Nolan only pointed to Elara and they both countered her and faced her.
Her eyes were wide, her brows formed two straight lines, and her mouth was slightly open. She was definitely in a trance. "Do Something!" Nora pleaded with him for some reason. He didn't really know what he could do and why his twin sister would even ask him out of all people.
Nolan wrapped his fingers on Elara's shoulders and shook her lightly calling her name a few times. It seemed to have worked as Elara blinked up at him and broke down crying. Not knowing what to do Nolan took her in his arms surprising both himself and his sister while he tried to comfort Elara. He ignored the wave of electrical shock that went through his body at the contact but as soon as she stopped sobbing, he released her and made his way to class trying to even his breathing and forget the feeling. After that, Nolan just avoided her all day not wanting to face the fact that he never let any girl touch him, or the other way round until now.
Principal Hawkins opened the door pulling him out of his thoughts and looked at the both of them. A small frown appeared on his forehead as his eyes landed on Elara. Without saying anything he motioned Nolan to get into his office.
"You wanted to see me, sir?"
Principal Hawkins turned the screen of his computer around and pressed play. Nolan was horrified when he saw the recording of what happened in the halls before classes. He didn't know how to react or how to explain it. He wasn't going to throw Sean under the bus no matter what. Sean was his responsibility.
"Mr O'Brian, I'm very disappointed in you." He paused the video and crossed his arms over his chest. "I gave Miss Bell detention for staying out of class, and then I got curious. Wanting to know why she would miss a class when she knows I wouldn't let it slip. Going through the recorded tapes I found this. Now I told you before, I don't tolerate bullying in my school, hence the cameras in every hall. What you did with your friends this morning was bullying, and you need to take responsibility."
Nolan stayed quiet, he could tell him it was Sean and that he stopped him but he wouldn't do that to his future beta. He would have to deal with Sean himself, as usual. Nodding Nolan scratched his light stubble "I understand."
"I would be careful if I were you Mr O'Brian, you wouldn't want to get kicked out of school for the second time during senior year. It wouldn't look good on college applications." He smirked and gave him a piece of paper on which was written room 33- Mr Edisson. "I can't take back her detention, but I can put you two together so you could at least be a decent person and apologize. Oh and tell your friends if they don't report to me first thing in the morning they'll be expelled. No one leaves school grounds without written permission."
Nolan nodded and silently walked out of the office to stand in front of Elara. He was tempted to tease her but voted against it due to her breakdown. She looked up at him softly waiting for him to say something to her but he didn't. Instead, he gave her the paper and left. Any other day would have been great to spend detention with Elara, he would have teased her through it. But all he wanted to do for the rest of the day was being as far from her as possible. He walked into the classroom and took a seat in the back.
"You must be Nolan?" Mr Edisson asked.
"Yes sir, Elara is on her way..." he saw her coming in and looked away.
"Very well. This is detention for me as much as it is for you and I'm glad he only sent me two students this time. Now that you are both here, I would like you to take these" he gave them copies of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and pointed to two desks for them to sit on.
"I would like you to read silently and take notes. Paulo Coelho is known for the powerful life lessons he gives through his books and I want you to find what lessons he is conveying in the Alchemist." When neither Nolan nor Elara said anything, he walked to his desk and took a seat taking out his computer.
Nolan let out a frustrated sigh pushing the book away. He was never a fan of reading. Nora would always sit back and read while he would be out on the field training from an early age. He found reading a lazy activity for someone who has Alpha blood running through his veins. They both have alpha blood, but unlike his sister, Nolan will have to take the Alpha title as soon as his father retired. And no one knew when that would be so he had to keep training.
Being on edge almost all the time for not being able to plan out his own future, Nolan preferred being involved in anything that would make him feel powerful and in control.
He glanced at Elara and found her reading with a few notes scribbled on her paper already. He ignored her puffy eyes and admired her wavy hair that fell on her back reminding him of a burning fire. She surely looked like a wildfire while confronting Sean. Nolan smiled remembering how fierce and strong she looked. And she wasn't faking it. He knew she wasn't as he listened to her heartbeat all along.
Unaware of his action, Nolan reached out and played gently with a strand of her hair in his hand but the pool of red hair turned around briskly with a frown on her face.
"What are you doing" she whisper yelled at him with a glare.
"I don't know, your hair is so long for your tiny body maybe you should cut it?"
"Leave me alone Hulk!" she turned her attention back to her book leaving a very grinning and very satisfied Nolan staring at her. He just love teasing her and didn't think it would ever stop.
"Are you feeling better?" he asked shocking her.
"I will be." She said softly without looking at him.
"I said silently kids!"
"Yes Mr Edisson" they said in unison and went back to reading. Well Elara did, Nolan just stared at the clock above the teacher's desk wanting nothing but to leave.
Mr Edisson abruptly got on his feet "I'll be right back. Don't you dare leave this classroom or you'll have detention all week!" he threatened just as his stomach made a weird noise bringing a blush to his chubby cheeks. He darted out of the classroom and Nolan burst into laughter.
He got on his feet and stretched "This detention sucks!"
"It wouldn't if you just sat and read. It's actually a great book."
"So what are the life lessons?"
"Read and find out!" she snapped at Nolan and rolled her eyes.
Nolan ran his tongue on his lower lip thinking of a way to annoy her. He didn't really know why, he loved getting a reaction out of her tiny frame. He tried to sneak a peek down at her paper but her hair covered it. Leaning in from the other side he came in direct contact with her hair and let out a low moan as he smelled her hair by accident. Feeling like a creep, and grateful she didn't hear his moan, Nolan pulled back.
He tried snatching the paper from her a few times "Come on just let me see! I hate reading!"
"Stop that Nolan!" she pointed her index at him in warning leaving the paper unguarded.
Wasting no time Nolan snatched it away from her table "Pursue your dreams by following your heart desires..." Nolan read as Elara started jumping up trying to snatch back the paper but he was much taller and it amused him. She looked like a fire dancing in front of him.
"You will meet failure, but don't give up in the process" Nolan kept reading while moving to the back of the classroom.
"That's not fair Nolan! Stop being lazy and do your own job!" Elara groaned following him to the back and tried grabbing her notes again.
"Nothing comes easily, you must be prepared to lose everything in order to acquire what you want" Nolan frowned "That's bullshit!"
"It's not!" Elara defended "It means you should never give up" she jumped again but Nolan held the paper higher.
"Everything that happens around us happens for a reason. It is all part of a written story, the story of the universe. Every individual plays a part in that story." Nolan frowned and looked at her for a second "Are you serious? I mean I know this was rushed but phrase it correctly at least!" shaking his head he went back to reading and failed to see the spitfire coming his way.
Elara had climbed on the table and jumped at Nolan. Realizing what was going on, Nolan held her by the waist by reflex so she wouldn't fall and hit her head with the table next to him. With a yelp, Elara wrapped her arms around his neck.
They were both breathing hard as he sat her on the table while standing between her legs. His hands were still tightly wrapped around her slim waist. He was still dangerously close to her and found himself diving into the green of her eyes. He was completely entranced by her natural beauty. Her light freckles fascinated him.
Without really thinking about it, with his heart beating faster and faster, Nolan closed the distance between them and hesitantly brushed his lips over hers. Feeling the warmth and an electric current tingle all over his body, he kissed her. He was drowning in her as his insisting tongue parted her soft lips and a million sparks exploded through his body feeding the fire burning in his heart. Kissing her was Nolan's own aphrodisiac and he felt addicted to her mouth.
Nolan pressed her closer to him wanting nothing but to keep that fire inside him he never knew existed alive and burning.
