Chapter 9- The proposal

Arjun turned to the left and Dia looked confused. He smiled at his little sister's confusion. This was another house for their own pack related business. It looked beautiful. They walked in and all she could do was take in the beauty of the interiors. Damn, her brother did not let his knowledge go in vain. He did hold a degree in interior design. So, this was the place he had taken up to renovate and recreate. It had been kept a secret. He had told her that he'd show her when time came. It was the old mansion where they had lived before she was born. This one was his project. They had decided to move out because Raj and her father Arnav decided to move in and live together as a big family and not separate. It sounded stupid. Living in the same pack, yet separated. And this was the place where their parents had first met. Both Arjun's and Neil's.

She really did miss her mother. She was at her old pack because her grandmother was sick. And her father being the overprotective mate he was, accompanied their mother. With Neil being the Beta, it gave him more free time. They walked further in and she could only admire. The house was so beautiful. Both in and out. It was a huge wooden house that had glass walls and everything from the outside could be seen inside.

But....

Only to werewolves.

The house had been constructed with many holy chants. Presence and blessings of the Elders and Alphas and other known werewolves made it stronger. All the Alphas from around the country had been invited. It was the only way for all of them to come together. Despite being rivals. It was the law of the wolves. That whenever a new Pack House was being constructed and was ready for use, all the Alphas along with their Lunas from every single pack had to assemble.

The one before remodelling, was not so appealing. That was what she had heard. It had poor dungeons. The doors were rusted and the meeting room had a seepage. So, it was remodelled. Arjun did deserve a pat on the back for this.

"Like what you see?" Arjun smiled as he ruffled his sister's hair.

"This is one amazing House! I could live here for eternity!" she grinned in excitement.

"One: Control. You need to be in control.

Two: No smile.

Three: A cold look. You need to show your aggressive side.

Four: No blabbering.

Five: No giggling.

Six: No fiddling with hair or nails.

Seven: Be a good listener.

Eight, last but not the least: Think before you say. Because once said, it cannot be taken back. Every word and breath you take in there counts.

I know you have been to meetings before, but from this, it matters. You're going to be a Luna. Your opinion and focus matters" he said and smiled at the end.

Dia just pouted looking at her brother. His duality was no joke. He was serious just a second ago, advising on how to behave and then smiled. It looked like he was not serious at all, but he was. She needed a second there.

The RULES!

OH GOD!

On how to behave. She pouted again and that made Arjun laugh. He laughed letting his guard down and that made her smile. It was the first time in four years, he laughed. It was not like, he hadn't, but this was a true one. He calmed down and ruffled her hair and in return, she scratched his arm.

"Relax kiddo. It's not that hard. I told you because you're too hyper and like a kid. You're the youngest, but you've come of age to understand and now that you have a mate, you need to understand the importance. The weight of responsibility that rests on your shoulders now. It's very important for a werewolf to attend meetings. Female wolves are not allowed to attend, but I've changed the law here and so have the Chandramaas. They did that long ago. Now, that's enough. Come, let's go" he patted her cheek and pulled her in.

"Bhai, did it hurt? I'm sorry" she asked, her voice laced with guilt as she examined his arm and saw the red marks.

"No. You can never. It's all in the game. We wolves do play like that. So, don't worry" he winked.

Arjun sighed as Radhika's thoughts crossed him. He closed his eyes and let out a painful growl. His wolf stirred and whimpered in the need of his mate. He needed her more than his human form. Dia sighed at his suffering. Both of them were just hurting themselves. She knew Radhika was hurting even more.

"Bhai, Radhi loves you too. But, she's scared. She's pure and believes in True Love. Bend and mend to her will and she'll trust you. Give her some time" she said rubbing his back.

"I need her. So very much. I don't think I can hold back any longer" he said, his voice laced with pain.

The guards bowed down and had their eyes down as they walked in. Arjun looked at them with a cold look and gave them a sharp nod. Dia could just watch. The way his moods and reactions changed in the matter of seconds. In the snap of fingers. She sighed, shaking her head. He may be her brother, but he was the Alpha. Who was still hard to understand. She wondered if Veer was the same. If he'd be the same too. At the thought of him, her shoulders dropped. She yearned to see him. To stay in his arms for eternity. She knew that mated wolves, well not completely mated, found it very hard to stay away from each other, especially the newly mated ones. She never understood as she had never felt it. But now that she did, it surprised her that how even a strong willed wolf could end up being dependant on another wolf.

It was a rule that male wolwes of lower grade couldn't make eye contact with female wolves of higher grade, especially the Luna (be it present or the ex) and the sisters of the Alpha or other high ranking wolves. Dia just shrugged, walking further in. She didn't want to tire her head already.

"It's a rule princess. To not look in the eyes of the females. Especially the ones of higher ranking" Arjun spoke coolly, reading his sister's mind.

"What if they find their mate in her?" she asked carefully.

"That's not bound to happen. A male can see a female of lower grade, but a female needs a male who is better and superior. Don't ask why. Even I don't know. It has always been this way" he replied.

"If they do, then nothing can be done. No one can go against what the Moon Goddess has for you" he spoke after seeing his sister frown.

They walked further for a few more minutes and entered the meeting room and Dia looked terrified.

"Welcome Dia" Raj smiled.

"Welcome, dear Gamma. We have waited long for you" the Elder smiled.

"How are you healing?" another Elder asked.

"I'm good, thank you" she replied.

She had been so terrified that she was not aware of the breath she had been holding. She smiled. The warm and love filled gestures were enough to have her go lax. Everyone took their seats and the meeting began. Matters that had to be dealt with were discussed and Dia mentally took notes on how everyone reacted and acted. This was going to help her a lot in the future.

"Arjun, when are you planning on bringing Radhika?" the Elder asked.

"Soon" was all he could say.

And she didn't want to push further. She was well aware of what had happened and what was going on and what was going to happen.

"Good to know. Now you're no longer under the time pressure" she smiled.

"May I ask something?" Dia spoke. After what felt like eternity.

"Go on" the first Elder nodded.

"Was Neil bhai pressurised too?" she asked.

"No. He found her before we could do anything" Raj smiled.

"Oh" was all she could say.

Being a werewolf was not an easy thing. That too, cousin of the Alpha and sister of the Beta. It was a dangerous thing. She was their soft corner and everyone knew it. Being careful and shrewd was important.

"How was I today?" Dia asked as they walked out of the Pack House.

Arjun and Neil burst out laughing. Dia scowled and she almost shifted. She couldn't and shouldn't shift. She still hadn't healed from her fracture. She ended up kicking them.

"Idiots" she cursed.

"You were good Choti" Neil smiled.

"I'm going to Radhika's place" Arjun said. More like dropped the bomb.

"What?!" Dia gasped.

"Are you straight?" Neil asked.

"Bhai, you need to give her some time. Not rush like this" she sighed.

"I've had enough. It's hard. She needs me too and I know it" Arjun snapped.

"It was just yesterday you approached and she rejected you. Let time pass" she sighed.

"She did not reject me" he snarled.

"Make it upto her. Spend time. Change yourself for her and show that you're not the one who you posed to be two months ago. Make her trust you Arjun" Neil said.

"I'm leaving" he said as he walked to the mansion and left in his car.

"When will he learn?" Dia stomped her foot.

Arjun drove to the Chandramaa's Territory. The guards glared, but some bowed. He was their princess's mate. Arjun looked at his rear view mirror to see Neil's car behind his. People liked Neil and Dia and they were regular visitors. Arjun drove relaxed and turned to the right as he spotted a huge mansion. Anyone could say that was the Alpha's home. Radhika's scent was strong and that meant that she was home. His car screeched to a halt and he took in her scent as much as he could to keep him calm and sane.

Arjun stepped out of his car and corrected his blazer that he was wearing over his plain t-shirt. Neil's car stopped next to his and Dia walked around to come stand next to him.

"Bhai no. Don't" she spoke breathless.

"Relax Choti" he said in a soothing voice.

"This is wrong" she whispered.

"Dee please. I need your help and here you are trying to stop me" he sighed.

"Wait a little. Just a little bit. That's all we said" Neil sighed.

"I've come all the way here not to go back empty handed. Whatever it is, I'm going to do it" he let out a breath and walked in.

"Why aren't you doing anything? Why aren't you stopping him? Bhai, why are you standing like this?" she scowled.

Neil let out a deep breath and walked in behind Arjun leaving a shocked and stunned Dia at the driveway. Neil came back and pulled his sister along. He knew it was not going to be easy. Arjun was determined. When he decided something, it had to be done right away.

ZERO DELAY.

They walked in to find a man in his fifties sipping tea on his recliner. Radhika walked out in a red jumpsuit. Arjun forgot the world around him.

Time Freeze. Frozen.

He just wanted to take her in his arms and run away somewhere where no one could trace them out. That red looked so good on her. He wanted to mate with her that very instant.

Marriages didn't exist in the werewolf world. But marriage was needed as they all posed to be humans. He first had to touch her. Embrace her in his arms. Rest can come later.

Dia was gaping at her brother who looked like a love stricken teenager.

Not teenager. Puppy.

Neil had a hard time controlling his smile. Radhika turned around to see the three of them in the hall. She gave a small smile. She looked at Arjun who seemed to have forgotten where he was and what was happening. Dilip looked up after finishing his cup of tea and smiled at Neil and Dia. But scowled at Arjun. Radhika gasped when she looked at Dia.

"What did you get yourself into?" Radhika ran to Dia and examined her fractured arm.

"I'm okay Radhi" she smiled.

"Is this why you didn't answer Veer's calls?" Radhika asked.

"I had to sleep it off. The meds got me loopy" she replied.

Arjun walked to Dilip bent down to touch his feet for blessings. And Dilip's hand went unknowingly to his head and caressed his hair. Radhika watched it all shocked. Arjun smiled and stood back straight. He looked up at a portrait on the wall and it looked like all his confidence and happiness had been taken away. That was not possible. It could not be. No. But, he composed himself before anyone could notice. But Radhika did. What made him go pale? And just by looking at her mother's portrait. Maybe, he remembered his mother. She understood the pain. Seeing her father fight the pain everyday. She understood his father's pain too. The Alphas were strong. Both her father and father in law. She wanted to comfort him. Take him in her arms and make him forget whatever that worried him.

If werewolves fell in love, it's them. Could do anything for them. Die for them. The commitment and bonding was something unexplainable.

It was pure.

It was true.

It was beautiful.

He walked to Radhika and cupped her face. She looked up to meet his love filled eyes. He brushed his nose against her forehead and kissed her there.

"I know I have been a jerk. An asshole to you. I shouldn't have been rude when we first met. I know you hate me because of that. I don't know how I didn't feel our precious bond. I was blinded by rivalry. I am messed up, I know. But I swear, I haven't been happier after I started to dream of you. You're the most beautiful woman ever. Do you know how beautiful you look in red? I just want to marry you right now. I love you. More than I know. Please give me a chance. Will you be my mate forever and give me a place in your heart and help me change?" he asked desperately and his hand went into his blazer pocket and reached for what he wanted. He pulled out a tiny box.

"This is my mother's. My dad had made it for her. And she wanted this ring to be passed on. She wanted the ring to rest on the finger of her son's mate. Will you please accept it?" he asked.

Radhika gasped at the confession. It was a beautiful golden ring with a big blue diamond. Tears stung her eyes, but she made it invisible to him. She wasn't going to let his words affect her. Dilip looked on as he smiled. Dia's jaw dropped to the floor. Her brother had just proposed. He was being a hopeless romantic. Neil could only smile proudly at his cousin.

Veer just then walked to the hall and smiled when his eyes landed on Dia. She turned around, feeling his presence and smiled. His smile dropped. He was blinded by rage seeing her injured. He had just seen her all happy yesterday and now, today, she had a bandaged forehead and a slinged arm. But still, was smiling. She was god's most beautiful creation to him. She was his. Dia gasped at his anger.

"Veer, I'm okay" she spoke, her voice trembling in fear.

That made everyone snap out of the happy bubble. Arjun got back on his feet. He knew that Veer was right in his place. They had lied to him about the condition of his mate. She was  injured and they had told him that she had a severe migraine.

"Veer, control" Dilip commanded in his Alpha tone.

"Veer, we're sorry" Neil apologised.

Veer looked up at the ceiling and closed his eyes. He had to calm down. He couldn't lose it and scare his mate like that. He opened his eyes looking calm.

"What happened?" he asked, walking to his mate and cupped her cheek.

"Fought bulky hunters. I'm okay" she smiled, resting her cheek further into his palm, savouring his warmth.

"Does it hurt?" he asked, gently touching the patch on her forehead.

"No, I'm okay" she smiled.

"You didn't answer my calls. I was so worried. I wanted visit. But Radhu told me about your migraine and I didn't want to disturb" he sighed.

"I'm sorry. I had to sleep it off. The medicines were super loopy" she pouted and pulled his nose that earned a chuckle.

"It's alright" he smiled.

"I love you" she grinned.

"Love you so much more" he smiled and bent down to peck her forehead.

Arjun and Neil smiled watching their little sister happy with her mate. Arjun felt a pang in his chest. His heart. It felt void. Empty. Radhika's eyes met his and he could see the longing in her eyes.

"Dee will stay here from now on. From this second" Veer spoke.

"But.." Dia stuttered.

"No love. Not anymore. I can't stay parted from you anymore" he sighed and his forehead met her's.

"We accept your condition Veer" Neil spoke.

"I agree" Arjun nodded.

"I'll miss you both" Dia walked forward with tears.

"Aww, now don't cry. You can always visit" Neil smiled.

"We'll drop in your belongings later" Arjun smiled.

"Take care of yourself. And take care of Sam okay. I will call her. And if she complains, I will kick you in the balls" she threatened.

"And you, my dear Alpha of a brother, please don't go all Devdas as I won't be there with lemonade and aspirins to treat your hangover" she said as she looked at Arjun who only chuckled.

She was the best sister.

The brothers hugged their sister to them for as long as they could. Their sister was now no longer going to live with them. She had her mate, her own pack to take care of. She was going to start a family of her own and the thought of that made them both proud. She was going to be an amazing mate.

An amazing wife.

An amazing Luna.

And an amazing mother.

They pulled away and laughed at each other for the emotional state they were in. Veer walked forward and pulled his mate to his chest.

Arjun walked to Radhika "you're mine. And will be forever. You'll come to me. I'll make you to" he smiled and he kissed her forehead deep.

With that, he stepped back, looked at his sister in her mate's arms and gave him a curt nod. He then bowed to Dilip and walked out. Neil too did the same, waved his sister a goodbye and walked out the door to see Arjun kneeling on the concrete driveway. His body shaking as tears streamed down his face. He walked to him and rubbed his back. That was all he could do. He couldn't imagine the pain he was going through at the moment.

"Goddess please help ease my brother's pain. Enough of testing him" he prayed silently, closing his eyes.

"It will be okay Arjun. Soon" he said, patting his shoulder.

With that Arjun got back on his feet, walked to his car and both the brothers drove away in their cars. Arjun watched as the view of his mate's house faded as he drove away with his mate's scent fading.

Radhika sighed as she looked down at her empty left ring finger. She really wanted the ring. Dia's heart broke for her brother and best friend. Veer just looked on at his sister hurting. She had to make the move. Dilip sighed at his daughter's stubbornness.
