Chapter 4- First meet
Dia walked down the hallway with a smile as she tightly clutched the whiskey bottle and bought it close to her chest. She had to tell her brother Neil. She knew he'd not be sleeping. Not so soon. Not at 10 PM.
"Bhai bhai" she squealed, entering his office.
She didn't knock. She didn't have to. But she always did. And this time she forgot. Neil looked up from his pile of papers to look at his sister grinning like a Cheshire Cat. He then looked down to see her clutching the big whiskey bottle. The last he saw her was outside Arjun's room with Sam. Did she stay back in his room after and got drunk? It was never possible for a werewolf to get drunk. Their body heat was too much that it burned down the alcohol.
"Is it the alcohol acting up or are you really happy?" he asked.
"Where is Sam?" she asked.
"She's sleeping. She's not keeping well" he sighed.
"That's your fault" she shrugged.
"Care to explain" he crossed his arms.
She rolled her eyes. So much for having the Beta blood in him. Though their father was born in the Alpha family, which technically means her grandfather was the Alpha, as he was the younger son, he was the Beta.
She really thought if he was the most sensible person in the whole family.
Like really?
Everyone knew about the females falling sick when they couldn't spend much time with their mates. The longing and yearning could make them depressed. The worst, when they had their heat approaching. Since Neil and Sam had not completed the mating ritual, this was a reason too. They had marked each other and that only made it worse. She didn't understand how her brother was able to stay focused and Sam not complaining. Damn, the two of them were strong. Wolves always found it hard to keep their hands off their mate after marking.
"Care to tell me what's running in your head" he sighed.
His sister did zone out more than half of the time. He just couldn't understand what occupied her head so much. He just couldn't understand how Radhika put up with her.
"That you're the dumbest person" she mocked.
"Tell me why" he shrugged.
"I don't know why I am your sister. I don't understand how I am born to the same parents as yours. Clearly, you and Arjun should have been biological siblings. Not us, because the two of you are so dumb that I have to always keep enlightening though I am the youngest. And I have all the knowledge that you blockheads don't" she scoffed.
"Dia" he growled.
"Eh.. keep that with you and save it for someone else. Doesn't work on me" she scoffed again.
"Okay, forget it" he sighed. There was no way on earth he was going to win an argument with his baby sister.
"Can you tell me why you're happy" he looked at her, hoping for a proper reply.
"Bhai found his mate" she grinned. She was nothing like what was a nanosecond ago.
"I know. And I know there is a lot more" he nodded, rubbing his stubble, pushing himself back into his chair.
"Yep!" she jumped and took the seat opposite to her brother.
"Want some?" she asked referring to the alcohol and he gladly took it.
"Okay, talk. I even gave you a chocolate" he said as he looked down at the huge bar of chocolate that was pulled out from his drawer and slid to her side on the table.
"It is Radhika" she dropped the bomb and picked up the chocolate.
"You to be kidding" he gasped.
"You think I'd lie about something like this?" she snapped, munching on the chocolate.
They both knew how important it was for Arjun to find his mate and here was her brother. That dumb brother of her's who was not buying her words. The mate topic in anyway was not to be joked around with. Mate was something important for a wolf. It was like inhaling oxygen for a living. The other half of your heart. Missing piece of a puzzle.
"I didn't say you're lying. But he hates the Chandramaas" he said "we love Radhika for who she is. But, this must be a great deal to Arjun" he said.
"It is. The bastard realised the first time he met her. But still had it in him to insult and hurt her" she snapped, a growl erupted as she remembered the incident.
Arjun had crossed the line. Not even a random bastard had spoken to her the way Arjun had spoken. He may be her brother, but what he did was unforgivable. She'd react the same even if it was another random woman and not her best friend Radhika.
"Chill kiddo. You need to relax. This temper is not okay for you. Please" he whispered as he got off his chair and walked around the table to his sister.
He knelt down and took her small soft hands in his. He squeezed them gently and then pulled her fingers, making them crack. That made her close her eyes and hum in relief. She opened her eyes later and smiled back at her brother who was already smiling at her.
"Tell me about their first meet" he quietly said, handing her the whiskey bottle.
She breathed in and then out "okay, it was two months ago" she said.
..........
Dia just stood there staring at her brother. It was out of is character to take time off of his pack business and come to drop her to college. It was Neil who always dropped her. She kept thinking of what to do. Radhika would always wait for her at the parking lot. If Arjun saw her, he'd find out that she was werewolf and was from the rival pack. He knew she was from the same college, but hadn't met her. If he did, he'd for sure kill her. If not kill, attack her and hurt her bad. That scared her the most.
Most of the packs knew Radhika as she was the Alpha's daughter, a very good warrior, kind hearted, very helpful. Her down to earth nature made the river packs turn into allies. And the most important thing... She deserved to be the Alpha of her pack. Which she refused and wanted to give the position to her cousin Veer. He too was deserving. But if she did become the Alpha, Veer would be her Beta.
Arjun was the only person who never knew of Radhika. Though she was his cousin's best friend, he hated her. She was their rival. In both business and in packways.
"Arjun why are you coming?" she asked.
"To drop you off to college" he replied.
"I can go by myself" she rolled her eyes.
"No princess" he said.
"Arjun please" he pleaded.
"NO" he used his Alpha tone at her.
"Don't you dare use that tone at me" she hissed.
"Sorry" he apologised. He was being honest.
"Why?" she asked. Again.
"I'm the Alpha. You're my princess and I want you safe" he replied.
Nice job buddy. Not buying it.
"I can take care of myself" she said.
"I'll drop you till Neil is back" he said.
She scrunched her nose and her forehead creased. She wanted to stop him. Neil had no problem with Radhika and they were good friends. Arjun was not like that. She didn't want them to meet and have an argument or things to go worse.
"I'm no kid and I can take care of myself. I'm big enough to keep myself safe" she said.
"What is your problem with me coming along? You let Neil drop always" he said.
"He is different. Not like you. Now tell me, why you so concerned about me? Want to drop me? Aren't you supposed to be busy with your business? Cutting me out always. Whenever I asked, you declined. Why now?" she snapped.
"That was a different time. Now I want to spent time with you. Know everything. I know I was a jerk at that time. I'm sorry. I wanna make up to it now" he said.
"I'm happy that you realized. But still I don't want you to come" she said.
"I'm dropping you. That's final. Period" he snapped.
She knew that no one can win him. She sighed and nodded her head. Arjun drove her off to college and they reached in a while. Both of them got off the car and Arjun came around to her side and hugged her. Just then Radhika walked to the spot. Dia always made sure Neil parked in that spot. That was easy for Radhika to find her. Radhika always made sure to reach early.
"Dee!" Radhika called out.
She stopped herself seeing her hug a guy. She didn't know it was Arjun. Her cousin. She couldn't see Arjun as his back was towards her. She wanted to give them some privacy. Her best friend had found her mate and didn't let her know. It hurt her, but maybe it was for the best. Maybe she had just found her mate.
She turned around to go, just then Dia and Arjun broke their hug and saw her walking away. Dia was happy that they didn't meet and heaved out a sigh of relief. What her brother did next shocked her.
"Excuse me! Hello! The girl in blue colour crop top with long hair! Stop!" Arjun called out.
Radhika stopped in her tracks. She knew that he was calling out to her. Dia looked shocked and confused. She didn't know what to do. She should have texted Radhika to not wait for her.
Damn. There was no stopping to whatever that was going to happen now.
"Bhai, I think it's time for you to go. Bye" Dia pushed her brother.
Arjun stopped her and made her stand next to him. Radhika stood in her spot. Frozen. He waited for her to turn around. And she did. Finally. Dia facepalmed herself. She cursed destiny. Arjun took a whiff of her scent and found out she was a werewolf. He growled low. She was an enemy. A Chandramaan.
"Come here" he used his Alpha tone at her.
Radhika got annoyed. Who the hell was he to order her and talk on such a manner? He may be an Alpha with the aura he brought in, but they had never met before. She made up her mind to go for Dia.
"What a bastard of a mate! Doesn't he know how to behave? The nerve of him to talk to me like that. Wait... Didn't she like my cousin Veer? Had a huge crush on him. What's going on?" Radhika thought to herself.
Well, maybe who you liked didn't have to be your mate.
She walked further and stood in front of Arjun. She then looked up at him and snarled. His scent didn't please her. She felt her wolf growing even more aggressive. Dia ran to her and calmed her down.
"You!" he hissed.
"You don't even know how to talk to a woman. I donno how she is bearing you" Radhika snapped.
"I will kill you!" he snapped.
"STOP IT!" Dia growled low.
She turned to Radhika "Radhi he's my cousin Arjun. Alpha of the Aghastyaas" she said.
Radhika rolled her eyes. So, the Alpha had come to drop his sister to college. She didn't want make a scene. She knew how he was. Arjun saw her rolling her eyes at him and got angry. Not even a single woman had rejected him. He wanted to pull her in his embrace and crush his lips on her mercilessly and bed her. The only thing that stopped him was she was a Chandramaan.
"Where's Neil?" Radhika asked.
"Overseas meeting" she replied.
Radhika turned to Arjun extending her hand out "nice to meet you Alpha" she smirked.
"I have no time for such pathetic people" he spat.
Radhika's eyes stung with tears. She pulled her hand back balling her fists. It hit her hard. No one had spoken to her like that. She clutched her books hard to her chest and looked at him angrily. Dia snarled at Arjun. Radhika quickly wiped her tears and turned to her. She was short tempered and could shift any minute. Her eyes started to change colour. Her eyes turned black from sea green. Arjun too saw and feared the situation. Radhika held her tight and rubbed her palms gently.
"How dare he! I'll never let anyone insult her like this. No one has spoken to her like this. I'll kill him! I don't care if he's my brother" her wolf snapped.
"Dee, look at me. Into my eyes. Calm down baby. Deep breaths. Count to ten come on. With me" Radhika cooed in a soothing voice.
Dia stared deep into Radhika's eyes. Arjun kept watching. Dia did start to calm down. Well a little. Radhika started to count.
"10.... 9.... 8..... 7...."
Her eyes changed back to normal. But she still was angry.
"6.... 5.... 4...."
She started to take deep breaths. Started to calm even more.
"3.... 2.... 1...."
She was normal. She looked up at Radhika who was smiling down at her with her face in her hands. The both of them hugged each other. Arjun was happy that she was back to normal. His jaw clenched when he saw them both hugging. He pulled his sister to his side and snarled again at Radhika.
"Stay away from my sister you bitch" he snapped.
" If I'm a bitch, then what are you?" she snapped back "you know nothing other than breaking a woman's heart" she hissed.
"How dare you!" he lunged at her.
"Lower your voice Alpha. It's only going to work on your pack. Not me. So, don't you dare" she snapped "I don't know how your mate's gonna bear you. I even doubt if you'll have one" she shook her head with fake sympathy.
Arjun had no answer. He just kept staring at her. Dia didn't like what was happening. She kept watching them both stare at each other intensely in a very uncomfortable silence. It was like a competition, waiting for the opponent to blink. Just then the bell rang pulling them out of their heated stare. Both the girls walked off leaving an angry Arjun behind.
......................................
"So, that happened" Dia finished and looked at her brother.
"Woah. Damn" he wheezed out.
"Yep. Damn" she chuckled.
"He must be kicking himself mentally" Neil laughed.
"Oh, I don't mind. It looks fun" she laughed.
"It's time you go to bed kiddo" he said.
"I thought we could go for a run" she whined.
"Not now. Not with the rogues on loose and close to the pack border" he said.
"Alright. Good night" she got off the chair.
But something was not right. She stood there trying to think what was going on. Neil stood up too and looked on. It felt hot. Like someone had set the room on fire along with close surroundings. She took a whiff and gasped. Sam. She was on her heat. She was on her way to find Neil. She was close.
"Heat" she mumbled to herself.
"Sam" Neil growled as he sniffed his mate's scent.
"I see someone going to have an amazing sleepless night" Dia teased.
"Shut up, she's in pain" he snarled.
"Told you, it's your fault. Don't snap at me idiot" she snapped, crossing her arms.
"Now go idiot. Make her pain go away" she smiled, pushing her brother out of his office.
He waved at her and walked out. The moment he stepped out, he found his mate in pain. Her face red, tears streaming down her face as she struggled to walk, clutching her body with one hand and another hand on the wall taking support.
"Neil" he heard her broken whisper.
It hurt him. It broke him. His pace was quick as he took her in his arms and kissed her salty- tear strained cheeks. He kissed his mark on her neck and took in her scent, calming himself. Holding on to Neil did ease a level of Sam's pain, but not completely. He held her face delicately in his hands and looked down her at beautiful face. She was all red and burning hot. She was in so much pain, but still tried to put on a smile. For him. God, he loved her so much. He thanked the Moon Goddess for her.
"I will make it go away. I promise" he whispered and bent down to peck her lips.
"I know you will" she whispered, clinging to him for dear life.
With that, he picked her up in arms and walked to their room. He set her on their bed and got on top her and kissed her deep. He peppered her with kisses and they wasted no time in peeling each other's clothes off. They loved the feeling of their souls fusing into one. They both bit down on each other's marks as they rode their highs. Her heat was now gone and she was so relieved.
"I love you" Sam whispered, looking into his eyes.
She meant it. They had mated. They had made love. They had created a miracle. She was now carrying his pup or pups and that thought of that made her eyes well. There was going to be mini her or a mini Neil or both.
"I love so much more" he smiled, bending down to kiss her deep.
He pulled her to him and his fingers traced the skin on her stomach. She was carrying his pup. The proof of their love. They were going to be parents. He could get a faint whiff of his baby. He smiled and Sam smiled poking his dimple. He rose up and placed his ear on her stomach. He held his breath as he paid close attention. He heard not one, not two, but three heartbeats. He almost choked a sob and Sam stroke his hair gently.
"Thank you so much!" he whispered, kissing her belly.
He got back up and pulled her to him and rocked them both gently. Happiness and sleep taking over with a smile plastered on both their faces.
