In the previous chapter:

Hayes picked her up and the ride back home was quiet and tense with Hayes cursing every ten minutes.

He hadn't apologized or talked to him and she was happy about that.

She didn't want to talk to him or listen to his stupid apology because she was just a fucking chore to him.

The words stung like a bee, leaving stains and marks on her heart.

Hayes never lashed out on her like that and she wondered what triggered that.

What made him so angry?

She stomped inside, showing him angry and upset she was but he didn't call her to apologize and that broke her heart.

She took her bath and retired to bed, wearing a white plain spaghetti strap shirt and oversized orange pants with stripes on them.

Her stomach growled suddenly and her face heated up. Gosh she was so embarrassing

She walked to the kitchen, retrieved some cookies that probably belonged to Hayes and was going back to her room when she heard cries.

From Hayes' room.

Her curiosity peaked and she placed her ear against his door and pursed her lips when she indeed heard cries from his room.

She pushed the door open, happy it was open because if it was locked that would have been embarrassing.

You should have seen the look on Hayes' face when his twin sister barged into his room, a bag of his cookies in her hand and an innocent - as always - expression on her face.

"Hayes" she said "I'm here. No need to suffer alone"

That was when he broke down.

She climbed onto his bed and wrapped her small arms around his body, assuring him that she was there for him.

Now and forever.

"I'm sorry for yelling at you" Hayes sniffled.

"I-I don't deserve y-you" he sobbed.

"You have no idea" she grinned, trying to cheer him up.

Seeing him like this broke her.

Tears rolled down her cheeks silently and she ruffled his hair.

They sat in silence, choking on their own tears.

It was comforting.

Sitting down and having a good cry.

It soothed them.

Relaxing them.

Crying was only human, both boys and girls should never be criticized for crying.

It wasn't weakling behaviour.

Nor was it pathetic.

It was human.

"Li-Lilac broke up with me" he wailed, finally talking after a period of silence.

Harley gasped.

Lilac liked him - loved him even -

She would never just up and break up with him.

Something was off.

"Are you sure?" She asked, running her hand through his dark brown hair.

His blue eyes met her brown one's and he let out a sad sigh.

"I wish it was a joke" he commented.

"Should I keep you company?" She motioned to his huge Queen sized bed.

He nodded, his lower lip quivering.

"Let me go and get my blanket" she said quickly as she rushed to her room, almost tripping over her own two feet.

Her phone kept buzzing and her eyebrows furrowed.

She picked it up and gasped.

She connected her phone to her charger, grabbed her fluffy light purple blanket and rushed to her brother's room which was wide open.

He was already passed out, his mouth parted to allow the soft snores to fill his room.

She roughly pushed him to the side making him grunt.

She climbed into his bed, wrapping her blanket around her body.

Her eyes closed but before darkness took over her body she heard her brother whisper.

"non ti merito"

Then she fell asleep, a smile on her face.

"Harls I mean it" Hayes drawled "don't talk to her about- you know"

"No I don't" she snapped sassily, leaning against Jace to catch a breather.

"I get you are looking out for me but don't talk to Lilac about our breakup" he begged "I'm a big boy I can take care of myself"

She pinched his cheeks making him hiss.

"Fine" she whined as Jace played with her, resisting the urge to let out a throaty sound.

"Should we go to Baby Blue after school?" She asked both males.

Hayes froze and didn't say anything whereas Jace just nodded and mumbled "I'm all yours today. I'll do whatever you want me to do"

She smiled happily and Hayes smiled as well.

What did he do to deserve an angel of a sister? He thought.

They stood in silence for a while before the boys started talking about football making Harley groan.

Boys and football.

She whipped out her phone and started scrolling through her Instagram, her face lit up as she noticed that she had acquired five thousand followers.

She was only following a few people namely Jace, Hayes, both her parents and a few celebrities.

Lilac's parents didn't allow her on social media so she didn't have Instagram nor twitter nor Facebook or at least that's what she said.

The odd thing though was that Harley had never seen Lilac with a phone.

She had also never seen Lilac's parents.

Nor Lilac's house.

"Hey Harley" a voice yelled, making Harley look up.

Vanessa waved at her, a boy's arm draped over her shoulder and she was blushing furiously.

Harley waved back then Vaness glanced at her phone.

Harley chuckled and ignored - or tried to ignore - the burning gaze she was sure was from her boyfriend and brother.

She followed back quickly and Vanessa smiled before waving at her again before she disappeared in the crowd of people.

"What was that?" Her brother was first to speak and her boyfriend just stared at her.

"What?" She played dumb.

"You and Vanessa?" He asked "are you guys best friends or something? Why did you wave her and why did she wave you?"

"Oh we are friends now" she said smoothly.

"You know she hit on me right?" Jace gaped.

"And humiliated you too many times to count" Hayes completed.

"Don't live in the past boys" she replied.

They just stared at her, shock evident in their expression.

"Cielo I don't trust her" Jace said bluntly "my cousin- she's a wolf in sheep's clothing"

"I think she is trying," she shrugged.

"Yeah but I don't think you should trust h-" she cut Hayes off.

"I forgave you" she poked her brother's chest then glanced at her boyfriend "and you too"

"Why shouldn't I give her a chance" she mentioned.

She pushed herself off Jace and tried to go to her next class, not wanting to walk beside the boys but because of her crutches they caught up to her in no time making her huff a breath.

"Stupid crutches" she whined.
