The Alpha of the Yakari pack, Edmund, stood at the foyer of the pack house, flanked by his beta. They were awaiting the arrival of Alpha Sanders of the Goda pack.

Sanders was an old companion of Edmunds father. And that was one of the reasons why Edmund showed much respect towards him. It was also why Sanders trusted Edmund to help him with his 'situation'.

This 'situation', if simply laid out, was his daughter Karu.

Karu is the second child and only daughter of Alpha Sanders and Luna Mary. She was born a healthy and happy child who was loved by everyone.

But it all went downstream on her 18th summer.

Many believed that Karu got cursed by the Moon Goddess due to some error in the ceremony that was held to mark her 18th summer. But Alpha Sanders wasn't one who pursued mystical beliefs. And, no matter how hard Luna Mary tried to recall the procedure, she couldn't find an error. So what went wrong? Even now, as her 19th summer has come to pass, no one has found an answer to that.

Sanders and Mary would have continued caring for their daughter and trying to find a cure, if it hadn't been for the recent attempts taken to end Karus life. Rumours had passed on that Karu was a bad omen. This prompted anonymous persons wanting to get rid of her. Sanders believed it wasn't safe for her at the Goda pack anymore.

So they decided to place her in the care of the Yakari pack.
