Chapter Six: True Soulmates

Amelia's eyes began to flutter as she felt reality clear up. Her mind was still foggy on what had happened, all she knew was that she fainted. Her beautiful eyes opened up, but quickly clamped shut when hospital lights engulfed her site. She groaned in agony as her arm swooped over her eyes, pain shooting up it. She opened her left eye and saw plenty of wires hooked up to her, giving her body blood and other fluids.

She took a deep breath and slowly peeled open her other eye, finally adjusting to her surroundings. While she was looking around the dimly lit white room, she noticed her nostrils fill with the stench of bleach. It made her nose twitch and she nearly threw up, hating the potent smell of such a powerful chemical. Her ears then began to take in noises: mild chatter from the distance, footsteps on tile flooring, and a constant beeping right to her side.

She knew right then and there where she was: a hospital

Her eyes began to search for anything, or anyone, who would explain what had happened. That's when she felt her abdomen tingle, like a million tiny volts of electricity were poking at her. She looked down her gown and saw she had been wrapped up, her torso looking like that of a mummy's. She was wrapped in pristine, white bandages that had minor stains of red. It worried her because, now, everyone would know.

That's when a nurse showed up, her brown hair pulled into two ponytails.

"Ms. Amelia, glad to see that you're awake. I'm your nurse, Michelle," she smiled as she checked Amelia's vitals. After writing everything down on a clipboard, she gently rubbed Amelia's cheek, "I will get the doctor and some ice chips, ok?"

"Y-yea, ok," Amelia's voice was raspy and she coughed a tiny bit. Michelle left the room in a hurry, coming back five minutes later with Louise in tow.

"'ello, Ms. Amelia," Louise greeted as Michelle gave Amelia the ice chips, "I am Louise, your doctor. 'ow are you feeling?"

"Sore, hungry, still a little tired. What time is it?" Louise nodded as she looked through some charts.

"It is around midnight. Are you in any pain, and if so, what would you rate it on a scale of one to ten?" she bent down to look at her wrappings.

"Probably a seven, mostly my abdomen and head hurt," Louise nodded and stood up straight.

"Ok, Michelle, give her 30 milligrams of Morphine through her IV and some vegetable broth. I don't want to test solids until tomorrow," Michelle nodded and walked out of the room.

"Where is my husband?"

"I'm afraid 'e left 'ours ago. But, your brother and his soulmate are in the waiting room. Your colleagues were there, but left maybe twenty minutes ago. Would you like to see your visitors?" Amelia sighed at the thought of Arthur leaving her but nodded.

Louise left the room with a confident stride just as Michelle came back with the medicine and cup of warm broth, giving it to her and quickly taking her leave. She drank the broth slowly and put the empty cup on her side table, gently stretching out the knots in her back.

That's when very, very rapid footsteps approached her door. She didn't even have time to blink before her brother barged in the room and smothered her. He glomped onto her side and gifted her with plenty of kisses, shooting out questions like lightning.

"Mattie, slow down! I can barely understand you," she smiled as Matthew released her, taking a deep breath and cupping her head. He gently moved her head to his chest, allowing her to hear his rapid heartbeat.

"Jesus Murphy, Mel! You scared the syrup out of me!" Matthew rubbed her head, making her chuckle.

"Geez, Canada is really getting to you, huh?" Amelia joked, causing Matthew to chuckle as well. Just then, Carlos opened the door, panting as he leaned against the frame.

"There she is, my little conejita. How are you feeling, Mel?" Carlos walked up to her with a bouquet in his hands.

"I'm doing fine, Carlos. How are you?"

"Doing my best, your brother kept trying to kill people. First it was the secretary, then it was the nurse, and Arthur when he finally left your room," Carlos patted Matthew's head, a tired sigh heaving from his chest.

"Mattie, is that true?" Matthew didn't answer, "Mattie, you didn't even need to come. It was just an accident,"

"No it wasn't, you know that. We love you so much Mel. So much so that I'm planning on killing that son of a bitch. He did this," Amelia looked away, knowing that her brother was right, "when mom and dad died, they made me promise to protect you. I will follow that request, even if it kills me, eh," Matthew kissed Amelia's temple gently, making the smaller blonde smile.

"Anyway, that is a beautiful bouquet. Forget-me-nots and sunflowers are so special to me. Thank you, Carlos. Thank you, Mattie," Amelia smiled brightly as Carlos put the bouquet in her bruised arms. Matthew sharply inhaled as Amelia looked at him with her shimmering blue orbs. As much as he wanted to take credit for the flowers, he knew he should let the real man have the honors.

"Don't thank us, thank your boss," Carlos told Amelia, making Matthew chuckle lightly at his soulmate.

He was always one step ahead of me. A true soulmate always knows how one feels, eh

Amelia looked between the two men, curiousity dotting her precious features. She looked down to the flowers and then back up to them, still confused.

"Then who-"

"Ivan bought them for you, he seemed really scared for you and was extremely on edge when he left. He actually refused to leave at first, it took his sisters to convince him to go home," Matthew explained as he remembered just how stubborn Ivan was. But, he was running a billion dollar company and needed to rest.

Amelia laughed at the thought of the tall and serious Ivan being bossed around by his shorter sisters. But, she couldn't help but also feel bad. She had caused such a scene and it would only take a matter of days before the press would begin to question things. Even if Ivan had an entire branch of public relations and media to take care of it, he still had an image to protect.

"I'm starting to feel tired again, do you guys have a place to stay?"

"Si, we are staying at the hotel across the street. We are just a phonecall away," Carlos pointed at Amelia's window. She chuckled and nodded, laying down and trying to get comfortable. Matthew was quick to help, fluffing her pillow and kissed her head. He gently took the flowers from her arms and put them in an empty vase that was set on the side table. Carlos tucked her in and kissed her temple, while Matthew dimmed the lights.

"Night guys,"

"Goodnight," the two replied as they closed the door. Amelia slowly began to drift to sleep, wondering what tomorrow would bring.

Ivan woke up the next morning at five, hurriedly getting ready for the day. He wanted to spend the day at the hospital so that he could finally see Amelia. He knew for a fact Arthur wouldn't be there until his lunch break at one, which made him sick. Just thinking of Arthur made him feel queasy and hurt.

Driving to the hospital seemed like forever to him as he took the normal route, his anxiety fueling every bit of his drive. He was quick to anger as he drove, something normally so unthinkable. Everything ticked him off so easily: if someone waited a second after a light turn green he honked, if someone was driving the speed limit he cut them off, he even ran a few stop signs without a care in the world.

Ivan wasn't one to yell, but that drive was filled with so many curses that it could make a nun cry.

The sterile smell of the hospital made Ivan want to hurl. It was always so powerful, the smell of bleach and various cleaners. That was an afterthought as he walked up to the receptionist, giving her his ID so that she could print his visitor pass. Sticking it on his pants, he hurriedly made his way to the elevator.

He pressed the correct floor and waited. Its doors slowly closed. It slowly climbed up the building. It slowly dinged as it reached its destination. It slowly began to open its doors. Everything and everyone was just too slow for Ivan's liking. Nothing could calm the raging flow of blood that coursed its way through Ivan's body.

Yet, the moment he opened the door to Amelia's room, everything felt light as a feather. He saw how she curled into the fetal position, her cheek resting on her open hand. Her hospital gown was fairly loose around her body and her hair was a beautiful mess, making Ivan's heart fly from his chest. He slowly walked up to her bed and sat down, waiting for her to wake up.

He noticed the bouquet had been placed in a vase, making him smile slightly to himself. He wondered if she had already woken up, or if Matthew and Carlos just sent the flowers up to the room. The silence was eerie, but, welcomed.

He took notice of everything in the room: the thin sheets that covered Amelia's body, the cold brass of the bedframe, the annoying sounds of the machines, the plain walls that seemed to shine with cleaniness, and the tiles that made his pricy shoes squeak.

He got to absorb every detail about his Amelia: her golden hair seemed to be messy but not knotted, her petit body still radiated warmth Ivan had never known, she smiled in her sleep as her pudgy cheeks nuzzled her hand, and her nose twitched every now and then. He watched her resting for close to two hours, just admiring her beauty.

When Amelia began to turn, her body was now facing him. Her eyes began to flutter open, even her blonde lashes seeming angelic. Her body stretched softly and a quiet yawn bellowed from her lips, some joints cracking as spread her limbs. Ivan finally saw her sapphire eyes reveal themselves to the world, making him nearly jump with joy.

"Amelia?" he asked softly as he stood up. He put a hand on her back and rubbed it in a circular motion, feeling her muscles attempt to relax. When her eye finally focused on the world around her, she was quick to shield her nearly exposed gem form her boss.

"Sir! I am so sorry for all this!" Amelia quickly apologized, her heart monitor seemingly spiking. Ivan was quick to react, hugging her with the tenderness of a spring breeze. It caught Amelia off guard as she hugged back, regardless if Ivan was her boss or not. She knew she scared him, as well as his staff.

"Amelia, do not dare apologize,"

"I need to! I know you and some of the others were quite shaken from my episode. I didn't mean to make anyone uncomfortable or cause such a scene,"

"Amelia, you were wounded! They told us you were burned all over your abdomen! The fact that scared us most was that you did not tell any of us!" Ivan countered as he gently took her shoulders, "have you any idea what could have happened to you if Katyusha didn't find you! You could have bled out! You could have died! I could have lost you!" Ivan blurted out as tears began to streak down his cheeks.

Amelia was stunned as she wiped Ivan's face, finding herself begin to cry.

"I'm so sorry Ivan,"

"Nyet! If anyone should apologize, it is that worthless excuse of a husband!"

"Arthur tries so hard. His boss seems to be making him work harder nowadays, so he's just a little more stressed. He still loves me," she tried to defend. Ivan felt his heart shatter at her naivety.

"Amelia, his boss is his soulmate! He leaves for work so early so they can mess around in his office! He leaves work late because his boss gives him drinks! I heard him myself when I went to the brewery, he said he liked having power in a relationship!" he quietly yelled, making Amelia begin to cry.

"I-I didn't know that's all I was," she began to cry harder. Ivan was quick to wipe her tears.

"I was so furious, Amelia. Because I know damn well he doesn't deserve you! You deserve someone who will love you as an equal, not a servant who simply uses you to satisfy his or her needs!"

"But no one would do that to someone as impulsive and-"

"I already do! Amelia, you are the smartest, funniest, most caring, and most flawless person I have ever  met in my life. When I found out you were married, my heart broke at the thought of not having you. Anytime I hear someone talk ill of you, I want to kill them. Anytime I hear someone talk good of you, I want to give that person a hug! Amelia, even if we aren't soulmates, I love you more than all of infinite space and time!"

Amelia curled into Ivan's chest, nuzzling it. The words she had just heard made her feel like a new woman. She smiled at the thought of her actually holding such value to someone else, especially someone like Ivan. Someone who is normally so big, strong, and stoic. A person who's intellect feels on par with a genius. A person who is able to see her with all faults and flaws, and still look at her the same way.

She kept nuzzling Ivan's broad chest, loving the sound of his heartbeat. That's when her cheek felt his soul gem, making her eyes widen. She kept rubbing her cheek against it, feeling something strange. She looked up to Ivan, who in turn looked down to her.

"Ivan, your soul gem feels weird," Ivan turned red as he quickly backed away. He didn'y look her in the eyes and began to mentally panic.

Nyet, she can not find out how ugly my soul gem is! How I am cursed to be alone forever!

"It is not weird, I assure you," his voice cracked, a tell-tale sign he was lying.

"Then, may I see it?" Ivan still kept his distance, making her frown, "please?"

"Nyet, it is too ugly for someone as flawless as you to see," he held a hand over it, even though his dress shirt already covered it. Amelia's frown deepened, but then she smiled a little.

"If I show you mine first, will you show me yours?" she mentally facepalmed as the words left her mouth. Her ugly soul gem was going to be revealed to the man she had fallen in love with.

But to her surprise, Ivan was hesitant.

"Are you sure?" Amelia had a shaky smile, but nodded. This caused Ivan to nod as well, finding himself more at ease. He trusted Amelia if she was so willing to show him her soul gem. Amelia's shaky hand gripped the hospital gown, her anxiety beginning to pool in her gut. She took a few shaky breaths and looked to Ivan.

"Just don't laugh, ok?" Ivan nodded once more, finally allowing Amelia's courage to return to her. She pulled down her hospital gown, revealing her soul gem to Ivan. His eyes widened as he gazed at Amelia gem, feeling every part of his body shut down.

His heart began to pace.

His palms began to sweat.

His breath began to quicken.

His body began to shake.

His eyes began to tear.

His world began to spin.

Everything Ivan ever dreamt about was coming true.

In the heat of the moment, Ivan ripped off his shirt and showed Amelia his soul gem.

Her lips began to tremble.

Her lashes held droplets of unshed tears.

Her chest began to tighten.

Her arms began to tense.

Her brain began to fog.

Her life finally felt complete.

Everything Amelia ever hoped for was finally happening.

Ivan quickly took Amelia into his broad arms and embraced her tightly. He rubbed the back of her head, smoothing over her hair and crying. He kept whispering how the world was truly blessing him with her, chanting how he finally had all his wildest dreams come true.

She began to wail into Ivan's chest, thanking every deity on the planet for their fate. She even thanked the infamous soul gem for giving her such an amazing man. She began to weep at the thought that Ivan thought of her as a gift, never thinking anybody could love her to such an extent.

The two held each other for such a long time before they separated, looking into each other's eyes. Ivan gently cupped Amelia's cheek, his fingertips gently brushing the back of her neck and guiding her head upwards. Amelia's eyes slowly closed as her lips pursed, her cheeks growing red. His eyes softened as he leaned down, his heart ready to explode.

As soon as their lips met, the world disappeared. Their heart began to sync as the gentle kiss continued. Their lips stayed connected for what they wished to be forever, never wanting this feeling of absolute happiness to end. Alas, Amelia needed air and so ended their first kiss.

"Wow," they both whispered, slightly panting. They smiled at each other as Ivan went in for another kiss, Amelia happily accepting his affections. Ivan felt so much more fulfilled when he kissed her. Normally, wanted to make things hotter, he wanted to slip his tongue into his lover's mouth and make them scream. Not with Amelia, he wanted to savor every tingle Amelia's lips brought to his own.

"Well, isn't this a bloody surprise?" Amelia instantly disconnected her lips, making Ivan growl as he looked to the door, "to think I would take time out of my busy schedule to see my lovely wife, only to find her kissing some freakishly large man. Pathetic,"

Ivan gritted his teeth as he felt Amelia cower into his hold.

"You have no right to be with her!" he shouted as he held her closer.

"Who are you to say?! I'm her husband, who the bloody hell are you?!"

"I'm her soulmate! You are nothing but a cheating scum bag with no respect for how amazing and talented Amelia is!"

"I'm still her husband! I hold all rights to be here!"

"But Amelia is not your soulmate, da? Why don't you go run to your power-hungry soulmate, Hyung-Soo?"

"How did you know-"

"That is none of your concern! Tell him that you, Arthur Kirkland, should expect a call from my lawyer. If you and he cooperate, then this divorce should be painless for both companies. If you try to fight me, you will lose," Ivan's eyes held nothing but ice as Arthur stomred away.

"Ivan, why did you-"

"My lawyers will take care of it, zolotse," Amelia blushed and giggled.

"Are you seriously calling me darling?" the two laughed as Ivan nodded.

"I will think of something better later, for now you should rest," Ivan gently tucked Amelia into bed and kissed her lips.

"You'll come back to visit me, right?" she asked softly as Ivan took off his scarf. He gently wrapped into around Amelia's neck, keeping her warm.

"Da, of course I will!" he replied happily, "I'll bring everyone who wants to come as well! Maybe we can bring you some real food," Ivan joked. Amelia chuckled and kissed Ivan's hand, making Ivan nod as she nodded off to dreamland.

Ivan's face turned serious the moment he closed her door, instantly dialling a number on his phone. It only took a few rings before a deep voice answered.

"Mr. Braginsky, how may I help you?" Ivan frowned as he entered the elevator.

"Berwald, I need you to gather your team for a personal dispute. It's urgent, meet me in our normal conference room at headquarters," a grunt was all he received as the phoneline went dead. When the elevator door opened, he went right to the receptionist.

"May I-"

"Arthur Kirkland is to be banned from Amelia Jones' room. I do not care what he or anyone in his defense says, if I find that he visited her behind my back this hospital will be shut down in no more than a week. Am I understood?" his voice was threatening, making her shutter.

"Of course, sir," Ivan nodded.

He was ready to fight for Amelia.
