CHAPTER 3
~Everything requires a step…~
*JUNGKOOK*
He scrolled through his father’s phone. A scowl was plastered on his face as he kept scrolling. He needed this evidence. He needs to find this murderer. His need to make them pay dearly for killing his father and making life a living hell for them. But the only way he can do that is by finding evidence.
Namjoon leaned on the wall, his arms were over his broad chest, his hair looked like one that doesn’t even know what a hairbrush look like, it was looking so outgrown and unkempt. His gaze were fixed on his friend. They’ve been looking for this so called evidence on that phone for about two hours and haven’t find any damn useful thing. Jungkook wasn’t ready to give up but he was already giving up and he dare not say that shit to Jungkook. Especially not when he’s receiving a huge amount of money from his friend for this job.
Jungkook grabbed the cup of coffee at his side and took a sip, his eyes never left the phone. His eyes were even aching but that didn’t stop him from still searching. And it was beginning to annoy Namjoon now.
“There’s nothing there, Jungkook. We’ve checked that phone for about two hours and can’t seem to find anything.” Namjoon finally said. He was prepared for whatever mean or rude words his friend was going g to say to him. He should be use to it but he wasn’t. Jungkook just have a gift of making people sad and unhappy with his words. His mother was his regular victim.
“We can’t give up.” He simply said, not taking his eyes off the phone screen.
“We are not giving up. We are just…”
“Taking a break?” Jungkook cuts in, finally looking up at his friend. Namjoon suddenly wished he never spoke a word because the look Jungkook was giving to him could probably kill him.
“That wasn’t what I said. I_”
“What are you trying to say, Namjoon? That I should forget about finding my father’s murderer and let everything be? Or what?”
“That isn’t what i meant, Jungkook.” Namjoon sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. He always does that whenever he was getting frustrated or annoyed. “I’m not asking you to give up and I will never ask you to do that. But overdoing things isn’t going to add to this investigation. I know you want to bring justice to your father’s death and trust me I’m here for you but… You are overdoing the whole thing. Look at you, you look like shit. Your eyes has been on that screen for the past two hours and take a look at me, I stink. Why don’t we just take a day off and just think things through. It’s better to think than to rush things and not think.”
Jungkook gaze sharpened as he stare at his friend. “I’m not going to stop looking until I find something on this piece of device.” He said through gritted teeth.
“And what if you find nothing, what’s gonna happen then?” Namjoon asked.
Jungkook rushed out of the bed and stormed towards Namjoon. He gripped his collar and pulled him off the wall, levelling Namjoon to his own height. His gaze were dangerous. He wasn’t smiling _Although that was usual_ No one was used to his smile. In fact they haven’t seen him smile ever since his father died. He was always frowning, scowling, glaring and that’s it.
“If you are tired of sticking with me then get lost.” He growled, his grip tightened.
“I…I…I can’t breath….I…” Jungkook quickly let go of Namjoon’s collars and took a step away from him, running his fingers through his brown hair. “What the…” He coughs. “What the fuck is wrong with you?!” He coughs again. “Do you want to kill me?!”
“I…I never meant to do that. I wasn’t thinking straight.” He said, walking back to sit on his bed. “You are right. I think we should call it a day now. Your wife should be worried sick about you now.”
Namjoon looked at his friend in a saddened and bittered expression. His friend wasn’t like this. He could still remember the bubbly and lively Jungkook. The cheerful one. But everything changed ever since he lost his father. And it almost felt like the only memory he had of the bubbly Jungkook were fading away to never exist again.
Jungkook's head were rested in between his palm. He didn’t look at his friend for his eyes were shut closed and his focus were at nothing but darkness.
“We will continue the investigation tomorrow.” Namjoon said. He didn’t get any reply from Jungkook so he took that as a way of Jungkook telling him to leave. Namjoon collects the phone and his belongings before leaving the room.
Jungkook was completely left alone with just his dark thoughts and his sumptuousness, he never asked for.
Silent sobs escaped his lips. They say happiness was free but why wasn’t his free? Why does it feel like he has to pay a price before he can be truly happy?
He lay on the bed, crawling up himself into a ball.
~FLASHBACK~
“Come here, son. I want to show you something.” A boy of five years old ran towards an almost elderly man, grinning from ear to ear. “Close your eyes.” He Instructed.
“Why? I thought you want to show me something?” The little boy reasoned.
The man chuckled, picking the little child off the ground and carried him in his arms walking out of the house and headed to the garage at the back of the house.
“It’s a surprise I want to show you, son.”
“But I am to see the surprise, right?” The child questioned, indirectly trying to tell his father that there’s no way he would be able to see the surprise if his eyes were closed.
“Of course.”
“So how will I see it if my eyes is closed?”
“You are very smart, my son. You are the true son of your father.” The man chuckled while the boy grinned. “But do you know why a surprise is called a surprise?” The boy shook his head no. “It’s called a surprise because it is something that happens unexpectedly. Can you see the future?” The little boy shook his head no. “And that’s why most people refers the future as a surprise. It’s either a good one or a bad one. Now tell me my child, what surprise are you expecting now?” He placed the boy down on his both feet.
“A big motorbike. Or a gun.” The kid excitedly said, jumping up and down.
“A gun?”
“I want to shoot and kill those people that claim to be our friend!”
The man started laughing. “In other words you want to protect those you love.” The little child nodded his head yes. “Anyway you see, what you are expecting is something nice and good. You are expecting something good instead. Now here is my question, what if that surprise isn’t a good one?” The little child said nothing. “That’s why a surprise is always related to the future, because it is unexpected.”
“Are you trying to say our future is unexpected?” The little boy questioned, furrowing his brows.
“What I’m trying to say is, our future is a surprise to us.”

*JIMIN
Hwasa stood at the doorway of the room. Her hands were on her hip, her black hair were styled in a high ponytail. She wasn’t in the slightest bit happy in what she is watching right now. Mind you she wasn’t against the idea of her nephew dancing again, She just doesn’t want to see her nephew get hurt in anyway. Jimin was blind and there is no way a blind person will be able to dance without hurting themselves. She was very worried.
Jimin isn’t aware of his aunt’s presence. He kept dancing to the rhythm of the slow music. Yes, he was blind and can’t possibly see things around him. He had practically fell twenty or more times while dancing. He was even bleeding on his toe nail but he won’t stop.
Jimin pirouette twice then slowly lifted his legs off the floor, he extended his legs on the air and just when he was about coming down, he lost balance and fell down. He hissed in pain, Hwasa rushed towards a whimpering Jimin.
“I can’t believe you are doing this to yourself.” Hwasa said, taking Jimin’s shoe off and began accessing his injured toe. “You are injured.” She exclaimed. “Why exactly are you doing this to yourself? huh?”
“I was only dancing, aunt.” Jimin said, trying to justify himself.
“Dancing?” Hwasa scoffed. “You call this dancing? You are literally self harming yourself! Look at your legs for Pete’s sake.”
“I’m blind. I can’t possibly see them.” He said in a low, sad voice. He knew he was injured but he couldn’t see it, he could only feel it. Pain wasn’t something you have to see first.
Hwasa mentally slapped herself for her choice of words. She shouldn’t have said that to someone blind. “I never meant it that way.”
Jimin forced a smile to his face. “I know.” He slowly stood up and began looking for his helping stick, using his hands.
“What are you searching for?”
“My helping stick. I need to go take a bath.” He said.
“Here,” Hwasa handed over his helping stick. “Do you need help?”
“I’m blind not paralyzed, aunt.” Jimin said, leaping his way out of the room. His toe nail hurt like crazy. He tightened his grip around his helping stick as he kept walking down to his room.
He wished he could see. He wished he wasn’t blind. He stopped walking and pulled his face down to look at his toe but all he saw were darkness. Total darkness.
He walks into his room and slammed the door shut before collapsing on the floor and started crying. He cried his eyes out until he eventually fell asleep.
