Prologue
I had been to naive. If I had kown he would come, I would have apparated over to their house straight away. I wouldn't have stopped to buy Harry a gift. I wouldn't have spent an extra ten minutes looking for my purple coat. So many things I wish I could change but I can't.
I had seen a bright green flash between the trees. I had stopped and stared in the direction it came from, hoping with every part of me it wasn't where I thought it was. I burst out running only to arrive to see another flash and then a yell.
It was in my brother's house. Only one spell ,that I knew of, could cause a green flash like that. The Killing Curse, the worst of the Unforgivable Curses. "JAMES! LILY! HARRY! Please no!" I yelled before running in the now silent house save for the sounds of sobs from upstairs.
I stumbled across something on the ground, but one look down turned my blood to ice. James lay there his wand held tightly his eyes unseeing as he was alive no more. My world broke as I knelt beside my older brother, "James, please be here with me. You have to be here!" I sobbed but stopped once I realized I had to find Lily and Harry.
"Please let me find them alive." I prayed softly as I climbed the stairs. I stopped in my tracks as I saw the nursery door off its hinges. "Harry!"I mumbled before rushing forward.
I stepped over the door to find Lily on the ground before me and Harry crying in his crib. "No............... NO! WHY?!" slumped forward sobs racking my body as I grieved for my dead brother and sister-in-law.
Harry was trying to grab my attention by crying a bit louder than I was. I fianlly calmed myself to minor sniffles but now a headache pulsed in the back of my skull. "Harry. Please be nothing more than a scratch or something." I said picking up and placing him on my lap.
I peered at his forhead where a lightning shaped cut now sat. "Oh Harry..........I'm sorry. But don't worry I'm here for you ok? I promise to be here forever and ever. I swear by it." I said softly as he wrapped his hand around my fingers.
"I'm sorry Bailey. Dumbledore dun't want 'im at risk 'ere." I heard a voice rumble behind me. I stood, holding Harry tightly, to find Hagrid behind me an expression of regret on his face.
"Hagrid. Please. Dumbledore knows I'm capable of caring for him. Where else could he go?! To the muggles?!" I demanded but then realization hit me like a cauldron to the head.
"Lily's sister?!" I whispered in disbelief and anger. "she hates everything magical! She'll hate Harry, especially if he's like my brother." I said taking a step back as if it could keep Harry from having to leave me.
Hagrid sighed which slightly shook the floor, "I'm truly sorry Bailey. Dumbledore's o'ers. Any'thin' wanna give 'im before 'e goes?" He asked me. I let out a shaky sigh as I pulled out the gift bag I had in my coat.
"Write a note that says he is to recieve this on the day before his 11th bithday." I said handing it to Hagrid. He nodded and put it in his giant coat pocket. "I'm sorry Harry. I really am. But..................... *voice breaking* you have to go with Hagrid. Please remember me. I love you." I said leaning my forehead against his briefly.
He cooed with a slight grin, making me smile sadly. "Take care of him for me Hagrid. Please. He is all I left of my brother now." I said handing Harry over. Harry started fussing as Hagrid nodded to me. "Harry I'm so sorry this kills me too but remember I'll be here ok?" I said softly as Hagrid started to leave.
I had to turn away so I wouldn't run after them and demand to have Harry back. Tears streamed down my face silently as I heard my nephew start to cry out for me until it faded into the sound of a motorcycle roaring to life and driving away. I apparated to my house only to find Albus Dumbledore in my dining room.
I clutched my chest trying to steady my rapid beating heart. "Bless it Albus! I've already faced to much tonight and this isn't helping!" I state once I could trust my heart wouldn't fail.
He smiled a small sad smile to me as he stood up. "I'm truly sorry Bailey, I'm sure the loss of your brother and best friend is very difficult for you." He said walking over to me.
I glared at him, how dare he act so calm when my nephew was just ripped away from my life?! "Cut the crap Dumbledore! You just sent my 1 year old nephew to live with muggles who hate magic of any sort! I am perfectly able to care for him and you still send him away! You are killing me Albus and you know it! I know you do! So why do it to me?! Tell me why Dumbledore! I wanna hear the words leave your mouth, you think tham im incapable dont you?! Even after pulling myself from my brother's 7 year old shadow and proving my worth you don't even trust me with my own blood! So why............ why even come here?" I whisper sliding to the ground beside my fridge.
Albus shook his head as I stared at him all the fight gone from my eyes as tears streamed down my face. "I came to offer you a job at Hogwarts next term as a teacher for a subject we plan on introducing." He said gently. HE leaned down and pulled me up by my hand a small genuine smile on his face as I stared at him in shock and hope.
"At Hogwarts? Wh-why there?" I asked still dumb-founded by the lack of anger in his voice after the fact I just shouted at him for no reason. "It is the safest place for you. You could live a new life there with another name and a different story if you so chose. Which I highly suggest." He said gently.
"You would teach a subject we would call Leons and Countercurses (Leons is basically another word I made up meaning deadly spells). It would require cooperations with Professor Snape of course but I'm sure you'll manage, yes? Now I must go. I'll see you before next term Professor?"
"Nomus. At Hogwarts I'll be known as Beth Nomus. I inly want you and Professor Mcgonagall to know my true identity." I said clutching my table. He nodded before disapparating to somewhere else. I couldn't hold it in anymore and let my tears fall freely as I mourned for my lost family. Harry was my last living relative I planned to keep it that way.

"And I'd like to welcome a Mrs. Nomus as our new Leons and Countercurses professor." Dumbledore announced as I stood up and bowed my light purple robes and witch hat slightly glowing in the canlde light of the Great Hall. I sat back down in my seat by Mcgonagall. I trusted only her and Albus with my secret.
Once Dumbledore was finished with his speech the food appeared before us. I grabbed a bit of food and placed it neatly on my plate. I couldn't help but wince as I heard the name Harry Potter pass through some conversations around me. Harry had become famous for surviving Voldemort's killing curse. He would not know why he was famous when he entered the wizarding world and I didn't think that was fair but I couldn't say anything without giving myself away.
Minerva touched my shoulder lightly, I turned to her with a sad expression on my usually graceful features. "Sorry Minerva er Profesor or sorry. I'm so used to calling you Professor since I was a student!" I said with a slight laugh.
She smiled, "Yes well It's hard for me to not call you your name now as I did for 7 years." She said amusment in her voice. I nodded and we carried on with light conversation throughout the rest of the meal. Just a few more years until I could see Harry here in Hogwarts. Where nothing could hurt him and I could protect him for 7 years of his life.
I sighed to myself and continued with my meal smiling occasionally or telling a joke I had heard. It had been to long since I had been this happy without James nearby. But here I am smiling all by myself but I can feel his presence near me, I hope he's proud of me. It's all I can hope for until I can protect his son.

I stand at my chalkboard writing down names of curses on one side and blanks on the other side. Students shuffle in behind me and scoot around in desks. Once pleased with my handy work I turn around a smile on my face.
"Hello class! I'm Professor Nomus. Now before we start I wanna know a bit about you so that way I remember who you are. Now who first?" I ask setting down my piece of chalk clapping my hands to rid them of any dust.
A few chuckle at me before a students raises there hand. "Ah yes! Stand up now don't be shy trust me it does no good!" I said smiling broadly. A ginger haired boy stands up nervously.
"Give me your name, house, and one fact about you." I said to him. He nodded, "I'm Bill Weasley, a gryffindor, and I am terrified of my mum." He shivered at the end.
"Oh~! Mum's are truly scary especially when their mad eh? Ok good so far! Let's continue." So we spent the next 15 minutes introducing ourselves. "Ok now to the real lesson! So lets test our current knowledge on curses shall we?" I asked pointing my wand carefully to my chalkboard.
"The Nigton curse anyone?" I said scanning the students before me. Bill's hand shot up much to my pleasure. "Yes Bill? What can you tell us?" I asked smiling. "The Nigton curse is when the victim is forced to only be able to act properly unless they are surrounded by metal or metalloid objects!" He said. "Correct Mr. Weasley. 5 Points to Gryffindor." The kid beside him nudged him with a grin on his face.
I continued with the lesson asking for curse effects and the name of the countercurses. Bill seemed to know a lot which resulted ina total of 25 points added to Gryffindor.
My next class moved a bit slower but it was still an effective class nonetheless. I had a feeling I knew who my best student was and planned to make sure he knew what was available for him when he was older.
So when everyone sat down for lunch, I walked over to him. "Mr. Weasley? A quick word if you don't mind?" I said tapping him on the shoulder lightly. HE gulped nervously before following me to my office.
It was a room with 2 windows that faced the Black Lake letting in cheerful sunlight. I sat behind my desk will Bill stood awkwardly. "Please sit! I don't bite I promise, unless you make me mad then *chuckles lightly* you have more to worry about." I said and he grinned beofre sitting in the chair opposite me.
"Mr. Weasley I noticed something in class today-" "Oh no I'm in trouble aren't i?! I'm so sorry professor! I won't do it again I promise!" He said his eyes wide. I chuckled to myself. "Bill, you aren't in trouble. I was gonna say that you know quite a bit about curses and countercurses. What you know could make for some unique careers. Such as.........,oh where did I put it?!" I grumbled to myself.
"ah ha! *passes him a little pamphlet* You could be a cursebreaker for Gringotts someday. You go to vaults that are cursed and find ways to get them open for Gringotts so they can find the items' inside value. I believe with you knowledge you would make an exceptional cursebreaker." I said lightly tapping the folded paper.
"Now go and eat! You are probably hungry and I won't keep you any longer. Shoo!" I said with a small smile. He left with his head buried in the pamphlet. I sighed, pleased with my work. I opened my desk drawer to pull out a picture that had me, James, and Lily in our last year at Hogwarts.
I was standing by James untio he picked me up and spun around making me dizzy. When he put me back down I was trying not to barf while Lily laughed at me but not in a mean way.
I laughed to myself before gently touching the photo. I sighed before placing it back in my desk before anyone saw it. I sighed and went down to lunch. I continued my day with lessons and warning students against rule breaking.
