Disquietude
Honestly couldn't think of a title haha
Ko awoke in a fright panting heavily. Her right hand clutched her chest trying to calm down her beating heart. She looked around her plain room taking deep breathes realizing it was only a nightmare.
"That was too real," She thought clutching her head and resting her elbow on her knee. "That damn man, holding me captive like that making me cower." She gently rubbed the scar on her face as she slowly swung her legs over the bed.
There was a knock on her door followed by a voice. "Come to my lab and bring your mission report." Kabuto said through the door.
Ko quickly got dressed and limped to Kabuto's lab for a check up on her leg. She sat on his bed wearing shorts so he could examine the cut then handed him her book she kept her observations of the years she spent in the village in. She watched him hover his glowing green hands over her wound then put bandages around it.
"You need to take it easy for a few days. Your wound can still reopen, and your organs won't be able to take it. I already informed Lord Orochimaru, so he won't push you so hard today." Kabuto said finishing wrapping her wound. Ko gently got off the table and walked towards the door. "Oh, and I recommend you keep taking those pills to help with the pain." Kabuto suggested.
"Will do,"
"I also read your file from the village." He said making Ko's heart skip a beat.
"How?" She asked not wanting to turn and face him.
"It wasn't that hard to get past a passed out Tsunade. She's not the best Hokage if she gets drunk and passes out." Kabuto laughed.
"Please don't tell him," she pleaded.
"He's the one who wanted me to steal it and will read what happened on your last mission. It's out of my control...Oh, and he wants to see you in the training room."
Ko's heart skipped a beat once more and started to get nervous. She only nodded and continued out the door heading towards the training room. Her heart was beating faster and faster as she got closer to the room, she thought it would be easily heard by her Father. She took deep breaths trying to calm her heart and recompose herself once she stood at the door. Putting on a blank face and a confident posture, she opened the door and entered seeing Sasuke and Orochimaru.
"Kabuto said you wanted to see me?" Ko said slightly bowing to Orochimaru.
"Take a seat," Orochimaru said motioning to the chair next to them.
She nodded taking a seat as Orochimaru turned to Sasuke. He extended his arm towards Ko throwing a wooden sword at her which she easily caught and did the same to Sasuke.
"You will be learning how to wield a sword. Ko will be teaching you."
"What?! You were supposed to teach me. I came here to be taught by you not Ko." Sasuke said with anger gripping the wooden sword tightly.
Before he knew it, Orochimaru slapped Sasuke across the face sending him to the ground then let out a chuckle.
"You forget who you are talking to Sasuke. You may be an Uchiha, but you still have much to learn. You are nothing compared to me and I would end up killing you if I trained you to my expectations, isn't that right Ko?" He said turning to Ko who only nodded. "She will train you until you are ready. Ko, teach him how to use a sword and when you're finished, come to my office."
With that, Orochimaru left the room leaving the two Genin alone. Sasuke got up from the ground and glared at Ko who also got up.
"Your glare doesn't scare me Sasuke, this is the first I'm hearing about this." Ko said playing with the wooden sword. "Alright, let me see your stance."
"What?"
"A fighting stance with the sword, that's what we'll start with."
Ko watched Sasuke hold the wooden sword getting into a crouching position making her smirk.
"Completely wrong. Don't crouch down like you're holding a kunai." She said as she walked over to Sasuke gently kicking his knees back making him stand up. She put a hand on his back straightening his posture. "You want to look confident and strong when wielding a sword, put your weight on your back foot, it will help you with balance and if you need to jump back. Always be aware of your surroundings which can help when you're battling outside." She said stepping away from Sasuke. "Alright, now attack me."
Without hesitation, Sasuke lunged towards Ko swinging the sword blindly at her but was frustrated when she easily dodging his attacks. He went to strike her head on, but she caught it and ripped it from his grip then smacked his neck.
"What was that for?!" He shouted rubbing his neck.
"You're treating this like a kunai. You don't randomly slash at your opponent. You must analyze their moves and strategize yours. If you did train with Lord Orochimaru, he would've killed you by now." She chuckled handing him back the sword which he ripped from her hand. "The sword is an extension of your arm, don't think about the sword, rely on your instincts. As an Uchiha you'll get the hang of it with your Sharingan but for right now I want you to get it on your own." She turned away from him walking away before turning around getting into a fighting stance. "Now, attack me again."
Sasuke stood properly as Ko instructed before attacking her again. He aimed at her left side which she got ready to block but he quickly aimed downwards at her legs. Ko jumped in the air only receiving a cut on her calf. She landed a couple feet away seeing Sasuke running then jumping over her slashing at her back. Ko dropped to the floor rolling to the side blocking his next attack.
"Wow, you are a fast learner." Ko said honestly shocked he almost got her two times and cut her once.
Ko felt a pang of jealousy knowing this was why her Father wanted an Uchiha; especially one from the main family. He didn't even need his Sharingan to know exactly what to do. It took her months to master sword fighting but he might be able to master it in weeks.
"That was better," Ko complemented before lunging towards him swinging at his unguarded torso.
Sasuke kept a straight face as he blocked her sword, but his eyes widened once he saw her wielding a kunai hiding in her sleeve. She managed to slash his leg making him hiss in pain. He jumped back struggling to keep his balance on his one good leg.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you that deep." Ko apologized walking towards him. "I'll heal it."
She knelt in front of him putting her hand over his fresh wound. It started to glow green healing his wound as if he were never cut.
"You know medical ninjutsu?" Sasuke questioned.
"Yes, Kabuto taught me when I was younger. I never revealed it in the village since it would be suspicious that a Genin knew medical ninjutsu, one of the hardest things to learn." Ko explained as she got to her feet. "You may train longer if you'd like but I'm taking a lunch break."
Ko threw the wooden sword towards the wall walking out of the training room. She wasn't that hungry, but she knew it would be good to take a break and let Sasuke absorb what he had learned so far. She knew he didn't need her to train him though, it was her Father's wish. She guessed it was because she had taught herself as a child and wants Sasuke to do the same but with more guidance than she ever had. Ko felt a little happy that Orochimaru had trusted her to train his prized pupil but wondered if he will keep this promise he made to her before she left; that she will inherit Sasuke's eyes.
Ko was never showed exactly where the kitchen was, so she had to rely on her eyes to show her the way. To her surprise, the hideout was a lot bigger than she had expected. She found her way to the kitchen and walked towards the fridge to see if there was anything to eat, only saw a few vegetables and eggs. Turning her attention to the cabinet to the left of the fridge, she found some ramen along with ingredients to make rice balls. She got out everything she needed and started to boil the ramen while cutting the vegetables to add more flavor. Just as she was finishing up making the rice balls, she heard Sasuke enter the room and sit at the table.
She grabbed a bowl pouring the ramen into it and set it in front of Sasuke then continued finishing the last rice ball. She took out two for her and Sasuke while putting the rest in the fridge for Kabuto and Orochimaru knowing they will be hungry later. She got out another bowl pouring herself some ramen then put a lid over the pot for later and took a seat at the table across from Sasuke.
"It looks like we'll be moving soon." Ko spoke up after a few minutes of silence.
"What makes you say that?"
"There's barely anything to eat, this was the last of it which means it'll be time to go. It's too risky to shop at a nearby town with the Leaf looking for us." She explained between bites.
Ko went back to eating her meal but could feel Sasuke glance at her every once in a while.
"Do you have questions for me Sasuke? You are Lord Orochimaru's prized pupil which means you can ask anything you want; no more secrets."
Sasuke was silent for a few moments collecting his thoughts until he spoke.
"Who are you really?"
"Before the Leaf, I was just Ko. I honestly didn't know I was a Himura until Zabuza told me. Not even Lord Orochimaru told me what clan I came from. He didn't even tell me about my abilities...it was Kabuto who told me about them while I was in the academy. I was able to keep my chakra hidden from everyone by using this necklace to store my chakra. My chakra was concealed once I left to join the village and could use it freely once I was a Genin."
"Why were you sent to the village?"
"It was my first solo mission, I was told to befriend you so once you were ready I could persuade you to leave and join Lord Orochimaru. I also needed to spy on the village to inform him of the academy teachings and the shinobi."
"Your mission was me? Why?"
"He had his eyes on you for a very long time Sasuke. He wanted a strong shinobi to follow in his footsteps and continue his legacy. Who else to do it than an Uchiha, especially one of the main family?" Ko lied knowing Sasuke wouldn't be happy with the truth.
Sasuke was silent processing what Ko had just told him. He was shocked that Orochimaru had planned this from the very beginning wanting only him and not Itachi. He looked back up at Ko knowing there was more to why Orochimaru wanted him, but he didn't care. He was only using Orochimaru to defeat Itachi and if he had to fake his way through it, then so be it.
"What about you? If you've trained with him for so long, why does he need me?" He questioned making Ko look up wondering the same question.
"Honestly, I've always wondered the same thing." Ko sadly said which caught Sasuke's interest. He recognized the look in her eyes; they were the same as his when he disappointed his Father.
"How long have you been with Orochimaru?"
"My whole life, I was his second student after Anko. He was still in the village and would leave me in a shack with an underground training room for weeks at a time to train myself. He's done it to everyone, he won't train you himself until he sees that you are worthy. Once he left the village, he kept me there when he joined the Akatsuki leaving me alone for months until Kabuto came into the picture. Once he left the Akatsuki, we built the Sound Village which was the first time in my life I was allowed outside."
Ko finished her meal and got up from the table taking Sasuke's dish as well putting them into the sink.
"Who are you to Orochimaru? Why would he pick a random kid from a clan then they are mysteriously massacred?"
Ko stopped what she was doing and looked over at Sasuke.
"Because I'm one of his experiments, he killed the clan taking one of the female's eggs and created me artificially. I'm his daughter; can't you see the resemblance?"
Sasuke didn't believe what he had heard; Orochimaru having a child. Leaving her alone for so many months at a time to keep her a secret from the world then sending her away for years not giving her a welcome once she returned. Only making her fight for her life to test her abilities. Orochimaru welcome him but not his own daughter. He got a good look at her seeing what she was talking about, she had Orochimaru's extremely pale skin and dark hair. How had he not noticed it before? Or anyone else for that matter?
"Judging by your face, I bet you're wondering how you didn't notice? It's because no one could imagine him being a Father to anyone. Not even himself. He would never allow me to call him Dad or even Father. I believe Tsunade was the only one to notice but didn't want to accuse me of anything until she was certain. When she first arrived at the village and healed you, she got one look at me and instantly thought I was Lord Orochimaru."
Sasuke didn't know what else to say after hearing her words and stayed silent not having anymore questions for her.
"I have a question for you Sasuke,"
"Depends on what it is."
"Why didn't you kill Naruto?" She asked shocking Sasuke. "When I arrived, I could see he was close to death. All you had to do was simply stab him then that would be the end of it. You know for a fact that he isn't going to stop looking for you."
"I was told by Itachi that in order to get stronger I needed to kill the person most close to me...I didn't want to gain power like him, I need to forge my own path to power."
"Hmm I see, well Lord Orochimaru will get you to your goal. Do you want me to continue training you or will you train on your own?"
"On my own," he said getting up from the table walking out of the room before stopping. "Are you going to miss the village?"
"I'm mostly going to miss the freedom. Being cooped up in here again isn't what I wanted but I don't have a choice anymore." Ko said sadly which made Sasuke nod then continue to the training room.
Ko took a deep breath and sighed knowing she must face her Father about the file Kabuto stole for him. She walked towards his office not needing her eyes to find it, she only needed to sense for his chakra signature. It wasn't hard to pinpoint his chakra over the other two people at in the hideout since his was much darker and stronger. She reached the office trying to calm her nerves and knocked once hearing him inviting her in.
"Kabuto said you wanted to see me?" Ko said kneeling before him avoiding eyeing his bandage covered face.
"Yes, I read over your file that the Hokage had on you. The only impressive mission you did was against Zabuza Momochi. The Leaf really underestimates their genin don't they? Only D and a few C ranked missions and one accidental A rank, pathetic. Your report stated the academy was a waste of time teaching you how to arrange flowers to fit in as a civilian? Ridiculous." He scoffed walking towards Ko slowly circling her.
"You did hide under the radar with these tolerable grades and minimal communication with the students. I am disappointed on how they divided up the teams. You and Sasuke should've been on a stronger team than those other two; they held you both back." Orochimaru scoffed once more. "The girl seems useless according to Kabuto and the Kyuubi kid was just a waste of time. Now, about your most recent mission." He said making Ko's heart skip a beat making her nervousness resurface.
"W-what about it?" Ko questioned trying to calm herself but utterly failed.
"I want to hear what happened in your words, not Tsunade's or Kakashi's. What happened?" He questioned walking over to his desk clutching it angrily.
Ko took a deep breath and explained what had happened that day reliving it once more but explained how she analyzed each situation and what she could have done better. She explained how she was careless underestimating everyone and relied only on her eyes instead of her senses. When she had to explain what happened after she was captured, she briefly mentioned the inappropriate touching and focused more on the torture. She barely looked at her Father while reliving that day afraid of how her Father would react. Once she was finished, she finally looked back up at Orochimaru whose face was hard to read because of the bandages.
"I see, this situation shouldn't have happened...I should've retrieved you and Sasuke sooner." He mumbled to himself turning his back to Ko.
She processed what he had mumbled to himself realizing he blamed himself for keeping them in the village for a few days longer.
"While Sasuke is training, you will also train your senses so this never happens again. There's so much you still need to learn and that putrid village hardly taught you anything. I will say, I am surprised on how much you've learned about your Kekkai Genkei without any guidence. How far can you see?"
"Ten miles all around, but I cannot see underground. It is also difficult to focus on one thing while able to see so much."
"Over the next year, I want you to train Sasuke then once he excels, let him train on his own and you start your training. You will work on enhancing your senses, taijutsu, speed, your Kekkai Genkei, medical ninjutsu, and various jutsu." He ordered finally facing her.
"Yes sir," Ko agreed looking away from him; it still was strange seeing his new body never witnessing it before in her life.
"Oh, and I did find something else interesting in your file." He said making Ko look back up at him curiously. "Apparently, the third Hokage recommended you for Chuunin in his notes but during the discussion, Tsunade and the elders disagreed."
"What? I could've been a Chuunin if that old man was still alive? Dammit Father, I'm not staying a Genin my whole life." She thought.
"That is all, you're dismissed." He said waving her off.
She finally got to her feet but still faced him. "Is there anything I need to be aware of?"
"We're heading to the Sound Village tomorrow at dusk."
"Is there anything else?" She asked once again hoping he'd clue her in with his next plan.
"Did you make dinner?"
"Yes, it's in the fridge." She said feeling disappointed turning away towards the door.
She was halfway through the door before stopping when she heard Orochimaru speak once more. "Ko, I'm sorry that happened to you." He said sounding very uncomfortable making Ko slightly smirk.
"Thank you," She said barely audible before closing the door.
"I guess that wasn't so painful. I'm surprised he felt bad; I thought he'd just ignore it like I wanted to."
So I had to make Orochimaru at least attempt to say something nice; he has a heart somewhere lol
