Chapter 36 New Alpha and New Confessions
Previously, on His Alpha Her Omega
"Have a good night. I love you, Aunt Sherry." I embrace her tightly.
"I love you too, Little Sophie." She plants a gentle kiss right between my eyes. "Hurry off to bed now."
When I walk back into Luka's room, I can see that there's some room on the left side of the bed. I put the bed rail down, pull the covers down, then I take a step back and shift. Once in wolf form, I walk over, climb onto Luka's bed, and snuggle up to him, then I turn my head and lick his cheek.
It feels so good to have my mate back, I think to myself, as I fall asleep.
------------------------------------------------------------
I wake up to a dull blue light coming through the hospital room window. Realizing that I'm back in human form, I look to my side to find Luka still fast asleep.
The hospital room is plain and bare, with white walls, overly clean white floors and only a few chairs and a cot to sleep on.
Luka's going to get bored out of his mind. I wish there was something that I can do too cheer him up.
Another thought makes its way into my mind. I quietly scoot off the bed, land on my feet, and walk out of the room, but as I go by the waiting room I see Elliot sleeping in one of the chairs. His body's slumped over, and his head's resting on the back right corner of the chair. Did he stay here all night?
I lightly tap his arm. "Elliot. Elliot." His eyes fly open.
"Good morning, Sophie. How's Luka doing?"
"He's doing well. He's resting now."
"Really? Can I see him?"
I think about it for a moment. "When I get back." I turn around and exit the room as quickly as I came.
"Wait. Sophie, where are you going?" Elliot gets up from his chair and follows.
"Home. I have a gift for Luka there which I need to get."
"Don't you mean you want to go fetch it?" he asks playfully, smiling and chuckling slightly.
I laugh. "Very funny, Elliot. Very funny." I turn around and punch him on the shoulder. "I'll see you when I get back."
"I'll be here waiting for you." Elliot tells me, as he goes back to the waiting room and sits back down.
Since I'm not that far from my house, I decide to jog in human form rather than shift. I jog at an easy pace because I know for a fact that my target will still be there when I get home. It's good weather for exercise, I think to myself, as I run down the road.
As I go up to my front door I turn my head and look out towards the front yard. My Alpha eyes kick in, focusing on Keith and Cody's parents. I can see Dan standing out on the porch sipping a mug of something, while Emily is pacing back and forth through the door, which has been left slightly ajar.
My eyes return to normal. Seeing them now makes my blood boil. What they did to Luka was bad enough, but the fact that Keith and Cody were being forced to commit those punishments makes it even worse. I have to deal with them soon, I think to myself, as I open the front door and hurry up to the bedroom.
I know what I'm looking for. I get down on my hands and knees, and look under the bed. It takes me about a minute before I find my target. I gently pull out the cardboard box, and blow six years of dust off. It hasn't moved for six years. After all, it wasn't supposed to be moved or unboxed until I found my mate. I get back up. On the way out, I grab a fresh change of clothes.
When I walk back into the hospital, a sweet and delicious scent hits me, but it's not Luka's scent. I take a sniff. Smells like blueberry and banana muffins.
I walk over to the staff room. My aunt is standing at the desk carrying a basket of fresh baked muffins on her arm. I walk up to her and reach my hand in. "May I have one, please?" I ask her politely.
"Yes, you may. Just be careful there. They're still a little warm."
I grab one and pull it out from the basket. My aunt's right. It is still a bit warm but that just means it will taste even better. I take my first bite. "Hmmm, yummy. Hey, Aunt Sherry, where's Shelby?"
"Checking up on Luka," she replies, noticing the brown box I'm still holding in my other hand. "Hang on, Sophie, what's that?"
"You know what this is."
"No way. Is that-"
I nod.
Someone taps my shoulder from behind. It's Elliot. "Can I go see my brother now?"
"Of course you can, can you grab him a muffin for me?" Elliot reaches over.
"Can we go see Luka as well?" It's Keith, Cody, and Heather, coming into the room.
"Why are you guys here?" Elliot takes a step forward, defensively.
"We want to tell Luka how sorry we are for all that we did to him. Well, at least I am. I'm not sure about Mr. Grumpy Pants over here." Cody is referring to Keith, who growls at his brother.
"Why would you even bother?" Elliot asks, growling deeply.
"Don't be blinded by prejudice, Elliot." Cody looks at me. "Well, Sophie? You're the boss, it's your choice."
I let out a sigh. "Cody. You your mate and your brother are free to come and see Luka, but if he gets uncomfortable, you need to leave immediately. Got it?" They nod. "Alright, let's go." I motion for them to follow me down the long hallway.
"Hey, what's that?" Elliot points to the box, as he walks alongside.
"You'll find out," I murmur.
When we walk into the dimly lit hospital room I notice Luka's still sleeping in the bed. I can see that the wounds on his head are already starting to heal. Shelby's doing something on the right side of Luka's bed by the window seal. Perfect.
"Pardon me, Shelby." I scoot past her and set the box down on the window seal.
"What is that?" asks Shelby, as she moves out of the way slightly.
"It's our bond fountain." I open the box.
A bond fountain is a symbol of the love two mates have for each other. The only two people who knew what it looks like were my mom, and the woman who made it. Not even my dad knew what it looked like. Mom wouldn't let him near it after I unwrapped it at on my tenth birthday. My mom and dad had theirs on one of the window seals in the living room. It was bronze with red stones at the bottom. The one my grandparents had was snow-white, with two silver wolves, and some clear quartz stones at the bottom. The mother gets it made, she lets the father see it if she wants him too. Only after the daughter receives it does it go in a safe location until the daughter finds her mate, only females of the pack are allowed to have one.
I hold my breath and take it out of the box. I let out my breath and gently set it down. I can't believe it.
It's painted a warm, earthy, brown color, with a small waterfall carved into the back of it. There are also two wolves standing on a ledge across from each other, howling with each other. The one on the right hand side is painted like my wolf, cream with green eyes, but what's got me in disbelief is what's on the left side of the fountain. On the left side is a wolf painted up like Luka's, russet and sandy brown on top, white on the bottom, with those deep, rich honey colored eyes that I love so, so much. Lastly, the fountain has a wide round basin at the bottom, so that the water can be recirculated once it hits the bottom.
"I thought you already had it out, Sophie." Shelby looks at the fountain in awe.
I shake my head. "Sadly, no. Because of all the stuff that has gone on in my life, I just forgot, until I woke up this morning. Can you go and get a few cups of water for me, please?" She nods, slides past me, and walks out of the room.
"I tell you what, Sophie, it is strikingly beautiful." my aunt walks into the room.
"Thanks, Aunt Sherry. I'm in disbelief myself."
"Did you check your stones, to see what kind you got?" My aunt asks.
"Oh." I look back inside the box.
In the very bottom of the box I find a small cloth bag. This one has clear quartz stones inside. I listen as they rattle around the bag as I hold it. Mom always knew I loved the quartz. I place the bag gently on the window seal by the fountain, then reach my hand back into the box. There's got to be more than just that one bag, I think to myself. The amount of clear quartz in that small bag wouldn't be enough to cover the bottom of the fountain, only about half of it. It takes my hand a moment, but I find the second bag and pull it out. I catch a flash of green.
"So, what kind of stones did you get?" My aunt snaps me out of my thoughts.
"Clear quartz and emerald," I reply to her, looking over my shoulder for a moment, before returning my gaze to the stones.
I unseal the bags and place the stones at the bottom of the fountain. "Sophie, do you remember what you have to do now?" my aunt asks playfully, because she already knows what I'm about to say.
"Yes Ma'am. I have to set an intention, I haven't forgotten." I stand up and look at all the stones, thinking up an intention that I would like these stones to have forever.
I close my eyes. All that I want is for Luka and I to be together in safety, love, and happiness, in safety, love, and happiness, in safety, love, and happiness, I repeat in my head, as I do I try to imagine the life I want for us. I see a vision of us running on the beach of the northern shore, both in human and in wolf form. I see a vision of our wedding. I see Luka and I pressing our lips to each other's in a passionate kiss. I see a vision of what our future may hold, a good life and our kids running around the house. That's what I'd like our life to be, I think to myself. Hearing Shelby come up behind me, I calmly open my eyes and take the two cups of water from her, then I slowly pour the water over the stones.
"That should be just enough to fill the basin, Sophie" Shelby says, as I pour the last cup in.
"Thank you, Shelby." I hand the two empty cups back to her.
It's traditional for bond fountains to have spring-wound mechanical pumps. Some of the more progressive families have moved onto electric pumps, but my Mom was always against those. She believed the electromagnetic radiation was bad for your health.
I reach behind the fountain for the little key I know is there. I wind it up and let go.
Almost instantly, the sound of running water fills the air. I step back and smile.
"Great. That fountain's ether going to make Luka want to be with you more, or make him want to pee, probably both," Keith says jokingly, from the other side of the bed.
Pretending to ignore him, I speak again. "Wouldn't it be so amazing if he wakes up, and that's the first thing he sees and hears?" I point to the fountain.
"No it wouldn't, because the thing I'm looking at right now looks and sounds even more amazing," says a sleepy voice from behind me. I turn around. Luka's just lying there with a sleepy looking grin on his face, looking at me. "Hey, Sophie."
I then rush to the left side of the bed, but I can't control myself, as soon as I'm at arm's length, I lean forwards and hug him gently. "Hi, Luka. Good morning, how are you feeling?"
"I'm a little drowsy but other than that I'm fine. I mean, I'm not hurting or anything."
"Well, Luka, that's normal if you've been asleep all night long." I give him a soft peck on the lips.
He sniffs the air as we break apart. "Hey, Sophie, something smells good. What is it?"
"Banana and blueberry muffins. Here, this one's yours." Elliot walks up to the side of the bed.
"Well. Well. Well. Looks like Sophie's little sweetheart has finally awoken from his restful slumber." My aunt enters the room again.
"Good morning, Aunt Sherry." Luka looks around and sees the other members of the greeting party. "Hi, everybody." Luka waves at everyone, then lies back down, trying to relax. Then Luka realizes that Keith and Cody are there, and his eyes go wide, like a deer caught in the headlights. "What are you two doing here?" He has a tinge of fear in his voice.
"We were worried about you, so we just wanted to check up on you," Cody replies.
Luka whimpers slightly.
"You let us carry you home," Keith points out.
"I thought the pain from my injuries was making me hallucinate."
"Luka. We didn't mean to do the things we did." Cody says trying to change the subject.
"Then why did you do what you did?"
"It'll be easier if you just look in to our eyes, Luka" Cody says.
Shelby speaks up. "Hold it, boys." She walks around to the bed control panel and raises Luka's headrest. "There you go, Luka. Now you don't have to crank your neck so hard."
"But I don't..."
I walk over and sit down on the bed next to Luka. I gently hold his hand. "It's alright," I say as I skim the top of Luka's hand with my thumb. "I'm here for you. Look into their eyes, Luka. Let them show you their story."
I address the rest of the group. "Aunt Sherry, Shelby, and Elliot, turn your mind links on. You're going to want to listen in to this. Heather, you're free to listen in as well if you so choose."
Keith and Cody stand next to each other taking deep breaths and let Luka look into their eyes. Slowly, Keith and Cody's eyes turn from brown to blue, and the image show starts, as well as the voices for those who have their mind links connected.
The image show lasts a little longer than usual, as it covered nearly three years of events. Slowly, Keith and Cody's eyes start to return to normal.
Luka gasps loudly. "Cody, it was you that brought my clothes back to me on that cold night."
"Yes, I did. I just wanted you to be comfortable." Cody nods.
"Well, it wasn't comfortable that night, but you made it bearable. Thank you, Cody." Luka smiles a little.
The smile disappears. "Cody, why didn't you listen to Keith when you were carrying me home?"
"I accept you as my Alpha," Cody replies, matter-of-factly.
"And speaking of Alphas, Sophie, I do believe there's still some very important bit of news that you've still got to share with Luka," Aunt Sherry interjects, reminding me.
"Oh, oh right" I say, remembering just what it is I have to tell him. "Can you get uncle down here please, Aunt Sherry?" I ask her. "I'm sure he would want to be here for this."
"Call me for what?" We all turn our heads to see my uncle standing in the doorway.
"Good morning, uncle. How did you get here so fast?"
"Aunt Sherry called me beforehand."
"Can you close the door for me, please?" I ask him.
"Sure." My uncle shuts the door behind him. "Now what's this about, Sophie?"
The time has come. I look my mate in the eye. "Luka. My aunt found the Alpha gene while she was testing your blood last night. You're a pure Alpha."
I hold my breath and wait to see his reaction.
