Chapter 31 Soothed and Settled

Previously, on His Alpha Her Omega

I don't want to, but I don't have much choice on the matter. I look towards my Uncle. He shifts back. "Can you hold him for me until I get on Cody's back?" I ask him. He nods and carefully takes Luka from me. I pull myself up and swing my leg around to the other side, kind of like getting on a horse. "Okay, now, gently does it."

"You got him?" My Uncle asks, as he lets go of Luka's body.

"I've got him. Okay, guys, let's go."

Cody moves off, and the rest of the pack follow his lead. I look down and make eye contact with Luka. I smile it him. "Well here you are again, back home."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's now midday. Luka's still lying on my lap. He's still hurting, but knowing I'm right here with him makes it a little more bearable for him. The gentle rocking of Cody's body as he gallops along also helps.

When we reach the nearest road head, I go ahead and mind link my aunt. The medical team has been waiting around on standby all morning. "Hello. Aunt Sherry, you there?" I ask.

"Aunt Sherry here, I read you loud and clear, Little Sophie."

"I have Luka. The pack and I are about three miles away. Be ready when we arrive."

"Should I send an ambulance?" She asks sounding worried. "And Liam? Is he fine?"

"We're going. Liam is fine, still as tough as nails."

"Shelby and I will be waiting out front for you to arrive. I'll see you soon." The link goes dead.

I look back down towards Luka who is starting to moan slightly in pain. "Luka, baby, just hold on. We're almost there," I say softly, as I hold him as close as I can without hurting him.

"Do you want me to run faster, Alpha?" Cody inquires.

I look up and shake my head, "No, Cody, its fine. We're getting very close."

I then look back down at Luka. I'm amazed that Cody's running this fast and hard to get Luka to the hospital. I think back to what I heard Keith say to Cody last night after the meeting, and just then, before we left the meadow.

"You really need to come home, dude. Mom and Dad are both worried sick about you,"

"Are you sure man, you haven't slept in four days."

There must be something going on with Cody at home. But what could it be?

I'm suddenly snapped out of my thoughts by Elliot. "Sophie, is Luka okay?"

"Yes, for the time being, Elliot."

As we come to a stop, I see my Aunt Sherry and Shelby standing in front of the hospital doors with a gurney at their side. Even though the run seemed effortless, I can hear Cody panting.

"Oh, dear God. Sorry you had to hear me talk like that, Sophie, " my aunt says as she walks towards us and her eyes land on Luka. "Enough said. Let's get him inside. We don't have much time."

Cody lies down, and I allow my aunt and Shelby to load Luka onto the gurney.

"Uncle, can you make sure Chris and his family get settled in, and sort out the necessary paperwork?" I ask, as I slide off Cody's back with a thud. He nods. As I walk with my aunt and Shelby, I look back towards all the pack members. "Well done, well done, thank you all so much for helping. Thank you, Cody."

"You're welcome." He barks.

"Your brother and you have both redeemed yourselves," I add, as we go into the hospital.

When we walk inside, I find it eerily quiet. No people in the waiting room, no shuffling of feet down the hallways, no noise of any kind. I turn to my aunt who tells me, "We've been waiting for you on standby so that Luka could be seen first before everyone else, since we knew he was going to be our most urgent case."

We go up the same hallway where I took Luka after I found him. The conversation has stopped, all you can hear is the rapid beat of our footsteps. As the automatic doors to my private room slide open, we step inside and I start to head towards my emergency room when my Aunt stops me. "Sophie, we'll take it from here. Why don't you go upstairs and take a shower?"

I'm about to object. I can't leave Luka at a time like this. But then she cuts me off. "Sophie, before you left, you said you'd take a shower after you knew Luka was safe. Well, he's safe now. Don't worry, I'll have Shelby come get you if something happens."

She's got me there. I did tell her that I wasn't going to take one until I knew that Luka was going to be safe, and I know for sure that he's now in the safest hands imaginable, but still. He's my mate. But this is my Aunt Sherry I'm talking about, she won't let anything happen to him. And she did tell me Shelby would come get me if anything happened, and I know I can count on Shelby.

It's been four days since my last shower, and I'm starting to smell and I don't want Luka to wake up to me looking like this. I let out a sigh.

"Alright." I look down at Luka. "Take good care," I say softly, as I kiss him lightly on his forehead.

"Don't worry, Sophie, we'll take good care of him," my aunt says. I watch as they take my mate inside the emergency room and shut the door behind them.

I run upstairs to the Alpha private bathroom, where Luka got his first shower in years. Once I've closed the door behind me, I turn the heater on and start to strip down. I remove my plain white shirt first. I'll have to wash this in bleach to get rid of the smell. Scratch that thought. No I can't. Luka hates that scent more than anything in the whole world after what my father did. I'll have to find something else to wash my clothes in, it shouldn't be that hard.

I strip off my bra, pants, and my underwear, then I turn on the water and step into the shower.

Once inside I wet my hair down, the warm water that hits my back feels like a sunny day after a week of dreary weather. I haven't realized it until now, but I've missed being able to take a shower. Maybe I can enjoy a few after Luka gets out of the hospital. I reach out for the shampoo bottle as soon as my hair is good and wet. It's cherry blossom breeze, the same shampoo that we used on Luka.

I smile at the memory. How happy he was to finally get clean, the purring he did when I first lathered up his hair. I also remember how miserable he looked back then. Not an ounce of meat on him, ribs showing and one fractured, all his back and shoulder bones visible, and a thin layer of built up dirt covering him.

I'm suddenly snapped out of my thoughts by the bathroom door being frantically pushed open, "Alpha Sophie, Sophie!" I hear Shelby call. I open the shower door before she can knock. "Luka's fighting us, and he's broken all four of the restraints already. The only thing we've been able to do is get an I.V. catheter in him, and his inner wolf is threatening to take control. Sophie, if that happens, he could die, what do you want us to do?"

I turn off the water, then speed walk out of the shower and over to the counter. "I don't think he's fighting to be aggressive. I think he's fighting because he's in pain, and he doesn't want anyone to touch him," I say, as I pick my underwear up from the floor and put them back on.

I bend down and open up the bathroom cabinet. It takes me about a second to find what I'm looking for, a normal white cotton bathrobe, but then I find something else. "Ah, found it" I say as I pull out the white, round container.

"What is that?" She asks arching one of her eyebrows.

"Coconut oil" I reply. "Hey Shelby" I say, my eyes catching something hiding in the very back. "What's that?"

"What's what?"

I point to two little wooden knobs at the back of the cabinet. "Let's see," Shelby replies.

"Help me, get this stuff out of the cabinet," I say. We pull everything out.

I pull the wooden knobs at the same time, revealing a hidden cabinet. Inside, there's nothing more than a bottle of some kind, and a cotton cloth. I can see that the bottle has a note on it. I rub the dust off the note and read it.

Thanks for being such a good daughter.

I'm so glad you're the one who found this, now go heal Luka for me.

Mommy :-)

Mom always knew I like smiley faces. What is this? I peel back the sticky note. As I do, I see the letters. S. .T .E. L.L. on the label.

"Oh my gosh."

"What is it?" Shelby says confused as I then pull out the cloth.

I slowly get up back on my feet. "I'll tell you later," I reply, still stunned. "Can you help me put my bathrobe on? I don't want to drop any of this stuff."

She nods and holds up the bathrobe, while I put my arms through the sleeves, then she ties it snug around my waist. "Alright, let's go," I say. "I don't want Luka to hurt anyone or himself more than he already has."

Shelby then looks at me, wide-eyed. "Wait, Sophie, you're not really going out just wearing that, are you?"

"Luka won't mind," I reply, running out of the bathroom carrying the bottle and cloth. Shelby follows, carrying the coconut oil.

"Hands off," I say firmly as I walk into the room. My aunt and the other nurses stop what they're doing. Luka starts to breathe heavily.

"What are you doing here Sophie? I thought I told you to..."

I cut her off by whispering in her ear. "I found where mom hid the bottle of Stella gel."

My aunt's eyes go wide. "Step aside," my aunt instructs the nurses, as I walk around to Luka's bed.

When I get near Luka's face, I stop and squeeze a tiny drop of Stella gel, no bigger than a nail head, onto my pointer finger. I turn Luka's head gently to the side so that I can get to his cheek and then I apply the drop of Stella gel to his face. I watch then as Luka's face which had been a deep shade of red from the burns and the heat, almost instantly turns to a slight shade of pink, I then hear Luka let out a sigh.

"Luka, you feeling better?"

He then opens his eyes and looks at me, "Thank goodness, I don't know what I'd do without you, Sophie." His eyes slide shut once again.

I look over at my aunt, who's holding an empty syringe. "That ought to keep him out of it and jacked up for a while."

"Job well done, Aunt Sherry, now I'm going to be getting back to my shower. Shelby, could you keep the coconut oil cold until it's time for me to use it?" I ask, looking towards her.

"Will do," Shelby replies.

"Okay, one more thing, everyone listen up please. No one touches that bottle but me. My mom wanted me to be the only one who could apply this to a patient's body."

They all nod. I head back towards the shower.
