Chapter 29 Into Top Gear

Previously, on His Alpha Her Omega

"You'll need those to get Luka out of those cuffs," Chris explains.

"Oh" I say, remembering that Luka is bounded by silver cuffs. I bend down and put them on. "Alright, Keith and Cody, you stay around the back and wait for us," I say looking back towards them.

I walk over to the iron door. Just before I grab the handle, I stop and take a deep breath.

Just be alive. Just be alive.

I slowly open the door and step inside.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a face covered in burns so severe I can barely recognize who it belongs to. His head is bald, caked in blood and still bleeding slightly. The burns on his face are so bad that he doesn't open his eyes to see who came in.

The door closes behind me. As I slowly walk up to him, my eyes focus on the rest of his body. I can see plainly that his shoulders, chest and arms have also been badly burned by the silver. Both his legs are ripped open.

Deep down, I know who this is, but I still don't want to believe it. Then I sniff. Immediately, the scent of fresh honey, the pure, sweet smell enters my nose. My heart begins to pound. There's no denying it. It's Luka.

"Luka. Luka," I say as I bend down. He opens his eyes slightly. A smile then creeps its way across my face as I try to get the silver cuffs off, but then Luka mouths something to me that I can't make out.

"What?"

He does the same thing, but I still can't figure out what he's trying to tell me.

"What?" I ask him for the second time.

"Look out," he croaks loudly.

Moments later, what feels like a football player hits me and sends me flying across the room. In midair, I shift and land on my paws. I look and see Ace's wolf running towards me.

"Hey it can't be - how did you know I was here?" I growl, stunned.

"Sophie, Sophie, Sophie. I've known about your little plan since the beginning."

"How? Chris? Did he tell you?"

"I didn't say that, but I will tell you this. Things at your pack aren't what they seem to be. Look, Sophie. Your little mate is pretty much dead, so why don't you and your pack go back home and let me finish my job?" Ace's wolf then turns around and starts to slowly walk back over towards Luka.

"I'll take you on," I growl loudly, showing all my canines. Ace's ear twitches, and he turns back towards me.

"What did you just say, Sophie?" He reveals his canines a little as well.

"Oh. You heard me right, Ace Summers. I'll take you on."

"I don't believe what I'm hearing. Hey, lover boy! You better get a good look right now, because this will be the last time you'll get to see her again alive."

I get into an attack position. "Don't get your hopes up, Alpha Ace. I'm not going to be that easy for you to kill."

"Sophie, I'll give you one last chance to stand down and go home. Otherwise, it's your funeral."

"Whose funeral?" I growl as we leap towards each other.

We clash, standing on our back legs, growling, biting, and snapping, trying to get at each other's necks, but since Ace is bigger and stronger than me, I'm easily overpowered. Ace pins me down on my back, but somehow I'm able to roll over onto my stomach and push him off, remaining in front of Luka's chair trying to protect him.

Ace than charges at me again, but I fake him, go around Ace's backside and leap onto his back. Realizing what I'm trying to do, he starts to try to buck me off as if he's a bull at a rodeo. Man, maybe it's a good thing I'm a lot smaller then him, I think to myself, as I slowly move up Ace's back towards his neck.

But just as I'm about to bite into it, Ace bucks, and I lose my grip. Ace jumps again which sends me flying off his back and heading towards the wall in the back of the room, but I twist my body and land on my paws at the last second.

Ace sneaks around behind me and grabs my ankle. I let out a slight yelp as I'm being dragged off my feet, but I don't panic. I simply roll over slowly onto my back and swiftly kick him in the throat with my free paw. Ace lets go and I get back on my feet. My paw's sore now, but I can still move it and stand on it.

I get down low to the ground, "Your move, Alpha Ace Summers," I growl. Ace charges at me and we collide while standing on our back paws once again, but this time I'm able to spin him slightly and pin him to the ground. "Looks like I win," I snarl as I get on top of him. Ace grumbles and shifts back into human form. He kicks me hard in my stomach, which sends me flying off of him once again, but this time I don't twist my body in time, so the back of my head, as well as my shoulder crash into the wall. I let out a sharp sounding yelp.

I land with a thud. I try to get up, but my shoulder really hurts. It might be broken, I think, as I start whimpering.

I see Ace shift back into his wolf form. "Aw, that's too bad. Hey, Sophie, you should be happy I'm killing you first, so you don't have to watch your little omega mate die," he says, snarling as he walks slowly closer and closer towards me. I just let out a resigned huff.

He's right about that. Luka and I are both done for. I have no more energy to fight with, my back paw hurts, my vision's starting to blur, and I can't even get back up. At least I've fought long and hard to try to save my mate, the one I love.

From what seems a distant place, I hear a loud scream, shortly followed by a metallic clinking. The last thing I see is a blurry flash of sandy brown color, before my vision gives out.

Luka's P.O.V.

Sounds. That's all I can use to know what's going on around me, now my face hurts so much that I can barely open my eyes. I don't even know who's fighting with Ace. All I can gather is that it's a girl, from the voice that I heard call my name, but I'm in too much pain to work out who it is.

Suddenly, I hear a loud thud, then a loud yelp followed by a lot of whimpering. She must have gotten hurt, I think to myself. I then feel a tug, something deep inside me.

Maybe this thing wants me to fight Ace to save the wolf who's trying to save me.

I immediately doubt this thought. No. No, I can't fight an Alpha. I'm too weak. I've only been training with Elliot and Sophie for a few weeks and then there's the fact that he's an Alpha and I'm just an Omega. And that's all I'll ever be.

Then, from somewhere inside my gut, a voice says to me, "You don't have to do this yourself." That sounds like something Sophie would say if she was here. Then something pops into my mind. It takes a moment for me to figure it out, my gut is telling me to let my wolf take control, I still don't like the idea but at this point it maybe my one and only chance to get back home. I then take in a deep breath and then start to visualize my human face changing into my wolf's.

Knowing how bad off I am, I was expecting calling on my inner wolf would be a lot harder, but it's not, it's actually easier than before. This time, when I start to feel my wolf start to bubble up and send me and my human emotions to the back of my mind, I don't try to hold back. I start to struggle against the cuffs again, but this time I don't give up.

I let out a loud scream as my wolf finally takes control. The last thing I hear is the sound of the cuffs giving way, before everything goes black.

Sophie's P.O.V.

As my vision refocuses, I realize that I'm still here but how can it be? The last thing I remember before my sight went blurry was Ace slowly walking over so that he could finish me off, and the flash of sandy brown I saw right before. I lift my head to see what's going on. There's a sandy/russet and white wolf standing in between me and Ace.

I look over towards the place where Luka was sitting but he isn't there. The cuffs that held him are broken in half.

I look back at the wolf protecting me. Judging by the size and the coloring of this wolf I know it's Luka. But how can this be? Luka is in no condition to fight, let alone shift, unless...

I try to get to my feet, but my shoulder still hurts from when Ace threw me into the wall, so I decide to stay down and let it heal, which should only take a few minutes. My back paw is also healing nicely as well. As the fight begins, Ace tackles Luka and pins him down, but Luka quickly rolls over and is able to push Ace off.

He looks at me. Instead of his normal honey colored ones, Luka's eyes are bright yellow. After all the training and after all this time, Luka has finally let his wolf take control. Luka then turns his head back towards Ace and growls, showing his canines. This shocks me. I've never heard Luka growl before, but that isn't the only reason why I'm so stunned. It's the type of growl he let out. I've heard an Omega growl before, and that wasn't an Omega growl. That was an Alpha growl.

As the fight goes on, the snapping and biting sounds get louder and louder. Finally, they both get on their back legs and continue. Even though Luka only gets up to Ace's chest when he's up on his hind legs, he pushes Ace with such force that he is propelled straight through the other side of the wall.

Ace shakes himself off through the hole that Luka made in the wall, and runs off. Did Luka just defeat Ace Summers? I ask myself, stunned, as I shift back.

Luka's wolf starts to pant heavily and sway from side to side, I move a little closer, and it's a good thing I do. Luka's wolf then shifts back and lets Luka regain control, he starts to fall backwards but just before he hits the ground I manage to catch him. "Luka, it's Sophie," I say softly, once I've got him in my lap.

"How do I know you're Sophie?" Luka croaks.

After thinking about it for a moment, I gently pick him up and place him on the floor careful not to hurt him too much. I then shift back into my wolf, bend down and start to gently lick the spaces around his eyes. Then I stop, shift back into my human form, and put Luka back in my lap.

"Alright, Luka, open your eyes," I say. Luka then slowly opens his eyes up all the way. His chocolate-colored eyes are now frosted with pain. I wave my hand in front of his face for a moment. "Hello, Luka, can you see me now?" I ask him.

Luka's eyes then light up, "Sophie, you're here. Now, can we go home?" He sounds miserable.

"In a moment, Honey, but first I want to give you something." I reach around back and pull out a bottle from my fanny pack. "Open up," I say as I open the bottle. I don't waste any time and gently squeeze the water out of the bottle, just enough to wet his mouth.

I then hear fighting coming from outside, "Alright, Luka. let's get you back home," I say putting the water bottle back in its holder, picking him up as I stand.

"I look horrible, don't I?" Luka asks, looking at me.

I look down at him and smile. "No, Honey. You don't look horrible, you'll get better. You'll just need some rest, some warm food, a little time, and maybe a nice back rub or two, how's that sound?" I hold him close, and wipe a tear from my eye as I walk towards the door. I swallow hard before I speak again because I know what I'm going to have to tell him next.

"Listen closely, Luka, I only have a few moments to tell you. I'm not going to be the one to actually take you home. I've got to stay and help the rest of the pack out."

"Well okay, who is it?"

I let out a slight sigh. "If I tell you, you are not going to like it."

We come up to the door. "Hey. Can one of you guys come and open the door for me? My hands are kind of full." I knock on the door.

It takes a moment, but Chris comes and opens it. "Ah, there you guys are. See, Luka? I told you I'd get you out, no matter what." I step outside, and Luka gets his first taste of sunshine in more than three days.

My uncle approaches us, "Hey Luka...oh my God." My uncle's eyes go wide as they land on Luka.

"What's wrong, Sir?" Luka asks, sounding concerned.

"Oh, nothing son, let's just get you home so that Sophie, my wife, and Shelby can fix you up," my uncle replies, as he tries not to break down.

"Where are the boys at?" I ask him, looking around slightly.

"They are around back. Have you told him yet?" My uncle asks as he and I start to head around towards the back of the house.

I shake my head slightly, "No I haven't, but he's about to find out."

As we turn around the back corner, I see two wolf bodies lying at Keith and Cody's feet.

"Those two guards came back, so we quickly took care of them for you," says Cody.

"Well, the runt looks like he's hit rock bottom," chuckles Keith, as he and his brother walk over towards us.

Cody elbows his brother in the ribs. Luka's eyes go wide. "They're the ones who are going to bring me home?"

"I'm sorry, Luka, we didn't have a choice. I can't fight with the pack and carry you in my arms at the same time."

"Anyways, Alpha, how far do you want us to take him?" Asks Keith,

"Take Luka over the river, then once you both get across I want you to wait for me" I reply.

"Can do. Okay, come on, runt," Keith says, stretching out his arms, but Luka doesn't budge. I look down and see fear in his eyes. I understand why he's so scared, but this is a matter of life and death. Keith then looks at me with confusion on his face. "Okay, why isn't he moving?"

"Luka, it's okay."

"It's okay, runt, we won't hurt you this time," says Keith, still holding his arms out.

Luka then shakes his head no, "Come here you little..." Says Keith as he goes in to grab Luka, but before he can I pull Luka back and let out a slight growl.

"Come on, Sophie, we don't have time for this...Why don't you let Cody give it a try?" My uncle makes a suggestion.

"You wanna try?" I ask Cody, who's standing slightly behind his brother.

"It couldn't hurt, right? Come here, Luka," Cody says walking around his brother and stretching out his arms, but still not a move from Luka.

I look down at him and see that his pupils are slightly dilated, his breathing is faster and I can feel that his pulse is rapid. I look down at him, with worry written all over my face. I don't like giving him tough love, it's the only plausible way to get the point across to him.

I begin. "I get why you're scared, and trust me, this is not my idea of fun either. But this is a matter of life and death. Why don't you understand, Luka? If you don't go with them, you won't be able to get treatment for your injuries, and you most likely won't make it."

Luka looks me in the eye for a moment, before he slowly slides over into Cody's arms. "Careful. He's got silver burns on his back. I'm not sure how bad they are," I say, as Cody takes him from me and holds him in his arms.

"We will be," Cody says, with a nod of his head. We hear a howl from a Ruby Stone wolf in the distance.

"You boys don't have much time, so you better get going. Also remember, if anything happens to Luka at the hands of you two, you'll both be banished forever," I say, a firm tone to my voice.

"Understood, Alpha. Don't worry Sophie, we'll take care of him," Keith says.

I then look down towards Luka, "Alright, Luka. Stay safe, and I'll see you again soon," I say softly as I plant a kiss in between his eyes.

I shift. "Chris, Uncle Liam, let's finish this battle."

Just before we run off to join the fight, I turn back towards Luka.

"Take good care, my love."
