Chapter 12 Eggs, Bacon, Grits and Sausage
Previously, on his Alpha her Omega
Once the doors closed, Luka speaks up. "Sophie, I'm afraid to fall back to sleep, what if I have another nightmare?"
"I'll keep the nightmares away. I'm an Alpha, everything's afraid of me, including nightmares," I assure him, then only a few moments later Luka falls back to sleep. Then only a few seconds after I remove my hands from Luka's hair, and I, too, fall asleep.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wake up to the bright rays of sunrise streaming into our bedroom window. As I open my eyes, the fresh scent of honey enters my nose. Looking down, I realize that Luka's still sleeping in my lap. I almost don't want to wake him up, sleeping there so peacefully, but judging from the uncomfortable sensation in my bladder, there's another reason my body decided to wake me up. I nudge Luka softly on the shoulder.
"Luka, Luka, wake up. I got to use the bathroom," I say softly.
As soon as I do, Luka rolls over onto his stomach and begins to sniff the air while his eyes are still closed. After a moment, they flutter open. He lets out a relieved sigh. "So, all of yesterday wasn't a dream. You really are my mate."
"Luka, could you please get off my lap? I gotta go pee," I say.
"What? Oh, sure, go ahead," Luka says as he crawls out of my lap and onto what would be my side of the bed.
"Thank you, so how did the bed treat you last night?" I ask him as I skip around and into the master bathroom.
"Pretty good, except for the nightmare part," I hear him reply from the bedroom. "Do you realize it's been six years since I've slept in an actual bed," he adds.
I flush the toilet and speed walk back into our bedroom, as I do I can see that Luka's doing something strange. He's sitting on my side of the bed, rocking back and forth, and with his legs crossed. "Luka, what's wrong?"
"Would you mind letting me outside? Now I've got to use the bathroom," Luka replies.
"Luka, you won't need to go outside to use the bathroom anymore, you'll use my flushing toilets. Unless you're in wolf form, then you'll have to go outside" I reply, chuckling slightly as I walk over.
I then help him off the bed, which I realize is a bit too tall for him at the moment, "There you go, remember to flush it, okay?" I say as I help Luka find his feet on the soft carpet beneath him. Luka nods before walking slowly into the bathroom.
A few moments later I hear a flush followed by another, I cock my head to the side slightly. What is that boy doing? I ask myself.
"This is awesome!" I hear Luka shout with excitement in his tone. My guess is that he's probably referring to the flushing toilet. I smile.
"I know, right. You know, some times during the full moon, even I can't help but flushing it a few times" I say.
"Yea, well as you can probably figure out, full moons are not the best time to be an Omega. Every full moon allows each werewolf to be their true self, and it's like a big party every month. You can probably guess who was used as a real life piñata when the guests wanted some entertainment." He walks slowly out of the bathroom.
"You." I reply.
Luka nods. "Yea, I would get beaten up by five to ten wolves, when I would shift back the next morning I would be black and blue."
"And you didn't defend yourself?" I ask, puzzled.
"I was the Omega," says Luka as he walks over towards me. "I wasn't allowed to defend myself, and even if I did, I would've been killed right there and then."
"Luka, those days are over. In a few days I'll show you how to fight," I say, placing my hands on his shoulders. I then lift my head and begin to sniff. "Smells like my Aunt and Shelby are awake. Do you want to come to breakfast?" I ask, Luka nods as he follows me toward the door.
When we get out to the hallway, Luka starts to head left towards the stairs while I go to the right towards the elevator. I turn and look over my shoulder. "Luka," I say, as I motion for him to follow me, and he turns around and starts to follow. When we step inside the elevator, I push the button that will take us to the bottom floor. The doors close.
Luka turns towards me. "So what can I have for breakfast?"
I turn back towards him and smile. "Anything you want."
When we walk into the kitchen. My aunt's cooking something on the stove, and Shelby's sitting at the table munching on a piece of toast, but when I walk into the kitchen, she turns away, "Good morning guys, so did we have any more nightmares?" My aunt asks as she sees us out from the corner of her eye.
"No, Ma'am, Dr. Sherry. Sophie fought them all off," replies Luka.
My aunt lets out a slight huff before speaking. "You two, take a seat at the table." We both nod and walk over towards the table, we both sit on the other side from Shelby. I sit on the right, while Luka sits on the left.
"Luka, what would you like to eat for breakfast?" My aunt asks, without turning to look at him.
"Oatmeal, please," Luka replies.
"Anything on top of it?" She asks.
"Just brown sugar, if I can," Luka replies.
"Man, you and my niece think alike," my aunt says, chuckling slightly, and I laugh. "Oh, Shelby, give her that bottle of pills for me, would you?" my aunt asks.
I then turn my head back and look towards Shelby, "What pills is she talking about?" I ask.
Shelby reaches into her pants pocket and pulls out one of those small orange pill bottles.
"This is Luka's pain medication. He needs to take one in the morning while he's eating, and then one at night before he goes to bed. Do this for three days." She hands the bottle to me.
"Thanks," I say, taking the pills from her. I can see six pills inside.
"So, Sophie, why were my shoulders and back killing me last night before you started rubbing on them?" Luka asks.
"It was probably a muscle spasm, which is normal after major surgery," I reply.
Shelby gets up and walks over towards the stove. I look over and see that she's helping my aunt as she serves breakfast. My aunt has my plate and Luka's bowl, while Shelby has the two plates for them. Aunt Sherry places Luka's bowl down first, and his spoon along with it. I watch his bowl for a moment before my aunt sets my plate down in front of me. It consists of scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, and sausage.
As soon as my aunt and Shelby sit down, we all start eating, well, almost everyone. Just a few bites into my eggs, I look back towards Luka. He's just staring at his spoon, looking at it as if it was an alien from another planet.
"What is it?" I ask him, he gives me a confused look, it's then that I know, Luka doesn't remember how to use a spoon. "Oh, I'll show you," I say as I reach for the bowl, but I stop before I'm about to grab it, "May I?" I ask, Luka nods, I then take the bowl and move it slightly over to my side of the table.
I then look towards my aunt, "Aunt Sherry, can you go and get me a clean spoon please?" I ask her.
"Sure," she replies as she gets up from the table. She comes back a moment later with another silver spoon and hands it to me.
"Thank you," I say as I take it from her.
"You're welcome, little Sophie," she says as she walks back towards her seat and sits down at the table.
I tap on the bowl. Luka turns his head and looks at me. "Luka, watch me do it," I say as I place the spoon in the bowl, then I scoop up a bit of oatmeal and put it in my mouth, while Luka watches on.
After a few more times, I push the bowl back in front of Luka. "Now you try it only with this spoon" I tell him referring to the first spoon. He then takes his spoon and scoops up some oatmeal, but as he's bringing it towards his mouth, I stop him. "Luka, remember the way I taught you to eat?" I ask.
He looks at me then nods. "Yes, gently and slowly."
I nod. "You're right." Luka places the spoon in his mouth, chews it slowly, and then swallows it down.
"Good, Luka, good boy," I say sweetly. That's how my mom taught me to eat solid food when I was a baby, she would eat a few bites of the food, then me being a baby I would try and copy her. When I did it right, I would be rewarded with the one thing I wanted more than anything in the whole world at that age, her love. When I did it wrong, however, she would just ignore me for a bit, she'd try it over and over until I got it right.
I look at my aunt and Shelby. "You handled that wonderfully," says my aunt.
"Thanks, nothing to it," I say as I pick up my fork and begin eating, we eat in silence.
After we're done eating my aunt is the first to speak. "Sophie, you do know you have a meeting today at five, don't you?"
I arch an eyebrow, "What is it about?" I clasp my hands together.
"You have to interview the new pack members, remember?"
"The new pack members. I totally forgot. Now there's probably a huge stack of paperwork on my desk..." I say to no one in particular.
My Aunt shakes her head, "Actually, no, you don't. Your Uncle Liam took care of that for you last night. The files are stacked neatly on your desk complete with pictures of both their human forms and their wolf forms."
I let out a deep sigh of relief.
Oh yeah, and in case you couldn't tell, I hate paperwork, so I'll thank my uncle later.
I turn back towards Luka. He's just sitting there staring out of the kitchen window. That gives me an idea. I tap him lightly on the shoulder, and he looks at me. "Luka, would you like me to take you to see the backyard?" I ask him. He smiles, then nods.
"Thanks for the breakfast, Dr. Sherry, Shelby, it was really good," Luka says as he's getting up from the table.
"When I hear Dr. Sherry, I look over my shoulder for my supervisor. Call me Auntie, Aunt Sherry, or almost anything else," my aunt says.
"Can do," Luka says, then I get up from the table and start to lead Luka towards the back door.
When we get to the back door Luka pauses. "Sophie, what if the other wolves try to attack me?"
I look back at him. "Don't worry, Luka, my whole backyard is surrounded by a fence. So you'll be safe."
"Okay, that makes me feel so much better.".
"Alright, lets go," I say as I open the back door.
When we step onto the back patio, Luka looks around with confusion on his face, "What?" I ask.
"I thought you said that your yard was fenced in. I don't see a fence anywhere," Luka replies.
I smile at him, "Luka, you look with your eyes." I pause to pick up a pretty good sized rock that has found its way onto the patio. "So you are easy to fool." I chuck the rock towards the back end of the yard, suddenly a bright green circular spot appears at the spot where I just threw the rock. I turn back towards Luka, "See, I told you. It's an invisible fence."
Luka looks past me and towards a pair of iron doors that sit just off the left side of the patio. "What're those?" he asks, pointing toward them.
"Oh, the exit from the Bunker. it's used only in emergencies though," I say.
"Oh, okay, just curious." Luka takes in a breath and lets it out.
"Luka, take your socks off." I say, pointing downward.
Luka slips his socks off and I do the same, then I close my eyes and take in a breath of the fresh air. Copying me, Luka does the same.
When I open my eyes, I pause for a moment to see what Luka's going to do next. Suddenly, he leaps out into the yard, as he does he shifts. I follow in Luka's actions and shift. My back yard is big enough to hold five full grown male wolves, making us two wolves in paradise.
"Hey, my shift didn't hurt that time," Luka whines as I come trotting up to him.
"Of course it didn't, your bones have healed," I yelp.
Then Luka and I start to chase each other around the yard. I bet Luka hasn't run like this for a while, so I'd guess he's only happy to stretch his legs. We run around for a few more minutes, until a sound tickles my ear, I stop and turn my head.
"Sophie," a girl's voice calls out. The voice was so small, it could've been anything, it could've even been a robin. When I turn my head to the right, I see her, an eight year old girl with little pink tinted cheeks, light brown hair, with blue eyes with her hands on the fence. She wears a crooked little smile that's so cute it makes people want to cry when they look at her. It's Chloe.
I shift back, and turn towards her, Luka runs behind me and hides. "One moment, Sweetie," I say as I hold up one finger towards her, I turn back to the house. I then mind link my aunt. "Aunt Sherry, can you power down the fence for a moment? Chloe wants to come over and visit."
"Sure, honey, just give me a few seconds," my aunt replies, I disconnect the mind link and a moment later the fence powers down. I start to walk away from Luka, as I do he starts to follow me, I turn back towards him slightly. "Stay," I say, holding my hand up. Luka sits down and I nod.
I walk over to Chloe and get down on my knees to be on her level, the reason being that I don't want to intimidate her. One of the biggest reasons that most pups are afraid of us Alphas is that they're intimidated by our size and our reputation. I don't want to be like that.
"Hey, so anything new with you, Chloe?" I ask.
"I finally got my ears pierced," she replies with a smile on her face, turning her head to the side to show me her shiny new earrings.
"Aaw, how cute. Hey, do you want to meet someone new?" I ask her in a sweet voice. Chloe shakes her head vigorously. I smile at her. "Well, alright then, let's go," I say as I gently pick her up, standing myself up. As I do, I then turn around and start walking back towards Luka.
Luka begins to whimper as Chloe and I approach. Chloe reaches her hand out towards him, "Luka, don't be afraid. She's only eight years old. She wouldn't hurt a fly, even if I asked her to," I pause. Luka takes this time to glance into my eyes, "It's okay," I say in a reassuring tone as his eyes make contact with mine. Luka gently places his snout to Chloe's hand. Chloe moves her hand up gently from Luka's snout to the top of his head. "Well now that we've got that taken care of, Luka, this is Chloe, Chloe, this is Luka," I say.
"Hi, Luka," Chloe says sweetly as she strokes the top of Luka's head. Chloe turns toward me. "Why did he act like that?"
"Luka has had a pretty hard life," I reply as I gently put her down.
Chloe hops in one spot. Luka looks down at her and gives her a confused look. I don't, because I know what she's trying to do. This is how Chloe signals to the other pups that she wants to play whenever she and the rest of her family go to the park. "She wants to play," I mouth to Luka. Suddenly Luka drops into a play bow. Chloe hops again and Luka hops up and down in his play bow. Then Chloe runs a few feet away from him and looks over her shoulder to see if Luka's following her. Luka then looks towards me, I give a nod before he runs after Chloe.
"Stay near the house so that I can see you," I say.
"We will," I hear Chloe reply.
For the next half hour Luka and Chloe chase each other around the yard, while I sit on the ground, watching them. Sometimes it would be Luka chasing Chloe around the yard, then Chloe would turn around and start chasing him, and so on and so forth. I've known Chloe for her whole life; she's Faya and Maloney's baby sister, so I see her every time I come over to their house. In fact, before I was made the Alpha, I used to babysit her, so we're very close. I smile. 'Maybe Luka will tire her out just in time for her afternoon nap?' I ask myself. It's a job usually reserved for Maloney, since she's the one with the most energy.
Then the chasing stops. I look up to see Chloe sitting down, rubbing her eyes, and with Luka right by her side. I walk over and gently pick her up, as I do Chloe lets out a sleepy groan. I then mind link Maloney. "Your baby sister's at my place, she's ready for a nap. Come and get her," I say, and a few moments later, I see Maloney coming down her front porch.
"You tired her out for me, thank you so much," says Maloney as she walks up and takes Chloe into her arms.
"Don't thank me, thank him," I say, turning towards Luka slightly, I then turn back towards Maloney.
"So that's your..." Maloney begins to say.
I cut her off. "Get her home, ask questions later."
"Of course, Sophie," says Maloney, as she bows her head in respect. As she turns around, I can see Chloe slowly waving at Luka. I turn back towards Luka and see that he's got his left paw raised, waving bye to her as well, then he begins to scratch furiously. That's it, I think to myself.
All throughout breakfast, I was trying to remember something I wanted to do for Luka today, but I couldn't remember. It finally came to me just then. I walk back towards the house, motioning for Luka to follow me.
