Chapter Twenty Seven: Sacrifices For Love
"Love can be felt only by the selfless."
╚══ ❀•°❀°•❀ ══╝
The Flying Ford Angelia hit more than 160 kilometers per hour by the time it reached The Potter Manor. Ginny was forcing the car to go faster than Ron was driving, hence he had no control over it.
The landing was harsh but no one could care less. The sight in front of them made sure of it.
The Potter Manor was ablaze. Grey smoke rose to the air and a thin line of water was being splashed by Charlie using a charm but that seemed of no use. Bill was setting some runes around and the rest of Ron's family were trying to put out the fire along with Charlie. The car was merely five feet from the ground when Harry opened the door and jumped out before running towards the manor. Ron and Hermione shouted at him to stop but, of course, he did not.
"The kids are trapped in!" Percy exclaimed as he levitated sand towards the manor with the help of Audrey and Angelina. Ron gasped and made to run towards the manor but Hermione stopped him.
"Harry has already gone in! I can't lose you now, Ron! Let's focus on putting this fire out!" she suggested, tears already flowing down her cheeks.
"This won't douse! It's a curse set by that Isabelle!" Charlie exclaimed hopelessly. Ron's heart ached but then he remembered someone else who might be hurting more than him. He turned towards the Angelia but then saw it empty.
"Ginny?!" he shouted just as she passed him by. She stopped in her tracks and turned around to face him.
"Ron, I have to save my family. This was why Death sent me below. This is that special mission Mr Potter told me about," she said seriously.
"But it'll kill you!" Ron warned.
"I was already killed, Ron. I may be killed as an entity but it doesn't matter when compared to the lives of three innocent children and a wonderful man! Just know that. . . that you are and always will be my amazing brother and I love you so much!" She ran forward to hug him. Ron hugged her back tightly, tears streaming down his cheeks. To anyone who would have been watching this 'one-sided' exchange, it might have been a rather bizarre scene, but to Ron, it was the moment when he felt his heart melt away. With another glance at him, she left.
Ron felt his knees buckle and he fell to the ground. He felt a pair of arms wrap around him and just turned towards the angelic embrace. His world was breaking down in front of his eyes and he could do nothing about it. All that was left now was a fluctuating hope of Harry and his nephews surviving this raging fire. And of course, killing that traitorous Isabelle for causing this chaos.
⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
Dust inhibited the air as unpolished bricks and debris fell all around Harry. He struggled to breathe but did not give up. The cry of Albus and the terrified screams of James and Teddy rang in his ears, determined to traumatize the Chosen One.
Ashes flew everywhere and the flames shot up, nearly burning Harry's shoes. He quickly doused them with a flick of his wand before shooting water at the path in front of him. From the yelps of his children, he knew that they were in the first floor's bedroom. He could just feel their fright and made no haste in running up the stairs after extinguishing the wayward fire.
His heart raced when he blasted the already burning door open. Teddy, James and Albus were huddled together on the bed, farther from both the door as well as the windows. "Teddy!" Harry shouted. The little boy's head shot up at his godfather's voice.
"Harry, help! This fire is too warm!" he exclaimed, bringing James and Albus even closer.
"Stay back!" Harry ordered before pointing his wand at the fire near the bed stand. "Aguamenti!" Harry's brain struggled to come up with a solution when the conjured water failed to douse the flames. "Why isn't it extinguishing?!"
"Because it's a cursed fire." Harry's eyes shot to the source of the voice. The beautiful young woman he always loved was standing crouched on the windowsill. "Isabelle has cursed it to never reunite family members."
"Gin?"
"M-Mum?" The echoes of a name and title which had become extinct several months ago filled the warm atmosphere.
"There's no time. R-Ron will explain everything. I need to get you all out of here! Harry, you old hag, time to fly!" Ginny exclaimed, smirking at him. But he just stood dumbstruck as to what on earth was actually happening. The warmth of the room was forcing him to snap out of his hallucination but no matter how hard he tried, he could not break it. Something hard hit his head before falling into his arms: it was a broomstick. "Blimey, I should really thank that guy up there for granting me emergency powers!"
"Which guy?" Harry found himself asking.
"Its just Death. There's no need to be jealous."
"Mumma! Help us!" James shouted, withdrawing further away from the raging fire.
"Jamie, jump!" Ginny ordered.
"Are you mad?!" Harry shouted.
"Not as much as you are. Trust me, sweetheart!" James nodded and untangled himself from Teddy before jumping off the bed.
"James!" Harry shouted in panic, seeing gravity quickly take effect on his son's tiny body. Everything seemed to happen in a slow motion as he watched Ginny raise her hand. A red light enveloped her and James. The next thing Harry saw was his son in the Ford Angelia, without a driver, flying right outside the window. Ginny nodded towards Teddy as well.
"Come out of there, Harry! The flames are right behind you!" she shouted in alarm. Harry looked behind him to see the wretched fire raising up the flaming stairs which he had previously managed to douse.
"I'll get Teddy and Al, you get out of there!" Harry shouted back, mounting the broomstick supplied to him and taking to the ceiling. He managed to fly close to the bed but before he could extend a hand to his godson, the ceiling started to crack. He was forced to back off as shingles fell right in front of the bed, taking the nightstand down with it. The crack in the walls of the headboard deepened, the photos feel onto the burning floor and the glass frame broke into a million unbelievable pieces.
"It's of no use. The whole house is cursed!" Ginny warned.
"But I can't just give up!" Harry shot back.
"Who is telling you to give up? Get out of there and I'll get them!"
"How?!"
"Don't you trust me?"
Harry took a deep breath. The peculiar smell of burning mixed along with oxygen entered his nostrils. It almost made him choke on his words but thankfully, he seemed quite fine. "More than my life."
"Then get out of there!" Harry did as she had commanded. The ceiling almost fell right when he was about to exit but Ginny managed to keep them levitated. Albus' and Teddy's cries became unbearable. Harry spun midair, as soon as he exited the burning room, to see Ginny struggling to get their kids out of the mess.
"Ginny, are you sure–?"
"Gotta love or die!" she exclaimed, smiling sadly at him.
"What–?" Harry stuttered. She shook her head and kissed his cheek before leaping into the room. "Ginny, no!" He forced himself from going back into the bedroom, bearing in mind the trust he had on his wife. As soon as the thought became coherent in his brain, Teddy and James, along with another pink bundle which had appeared in the Ford Angelia, had started to descend down in an alarming rate. Harry was about to try to get into the car when a small bokeh flew out of the window.
He flew towards the window cautiously. The flames were dying out but what caught his eyes was Ginny. She was lying on the ground, looking completely weak and vulnerable. "G-Ginny? Are you alright?" he shuddered, jumping off the broomstick and into the room. She looked up at the sound of his scared voice.
"It's over. . . m-my time here has come to an end," she whispered, her voice lower than the lowest note of music. Harry cupped her face in his hands and laid her head on his lap with shaking hands. He did not wish, no want, to lose her again.
"What d'you mean? You are real, right? You gotta be real. . ." His voice shook with mixed feelings of despair and anxiety.
Ginny slowly shook her head. "I am but an entity, Harry. I-I was sent d-down to save four l-lives. . . Fire was my w-weakness. . . It's over. . ."
"No. . . no. . . it can't be. . ." Ron gasped, having arrived just in time to hear his sister's last statement. "There will be a solution to solve this."
Ginny smiled. It was a harsh and a poorly concealed melancholic smile. One that would forever stay itched in Harry and Ron's mind.
Ron fell to his knees beside Harry and grabbed her pale hand. A part of it just broke and turned into tiny bokehs; Ron immediately withdrew with a wince. They flew up and faded into nothing, wounding Harry's heart. Was he really going to lose the love of his life forever. . .?
