Chapter 3
As the second part of the first phase started, Zepheena stuck near Aoifa.
They all entered Swindler's Swamp and Zephi noticed that running became a bit more taxing because of the wet land.
"So, Aoifa, where are you from?" Zepheena asked curiously as they stuck to the front of the group.
Aoifa hummed and smiled at her. "I grew up in Meteor City. My parents abandoned me there when I was born because I wasn't wanted. I apparently was the result of an affair between a servant and a very wealthy business man."
"That's awful. I've never actually been to Meteor City, but I know that's where the Troupe is from," Zepheena replied as she clenched her fists.
"Yeah, but I couldn't tell you what they look like. No one really knows," Aoifa said, looking to see how the young girl would react.
"I know some of their faces. Specifically the man that killed my parents... he had black hair and his face was mostly hidden by a black skull collar, but he had grey eyes and he was also short. There was a really tall guy that had wild hair, a pink haired girl, a guy with a top not, and I also remembered there was a woman with long black hair. Those are the only ones I remember distinctly," Zepheena explained and Aoifa nodded slowly.
"So would you fight them if you recognized one of them in the street?" Aoifa asked, knowing that she would get herself killed.
Zepheena sighed as she looked at the ground. "At the moment, no. I'm not strong enough to take on a member of the Phantom Troupe. But I'm trying to become strong enough to kill them... they took everything from my clan... I want to take everything away from them..."
Aoifa hummed as she looked at the back of the examiner's head, making sure could still see him.
They ran in silence for a bit as Zepheena tried to clear her thoughts, not wanting to get angry or emotional, especially at a time like this.
"Zephi!" A boy called out and Zepheena turned to see Killua running towards them.
"Oh, the boy from before? Correct?" Aoifa questioned to which Zepheena answered with a short nod.
"Hey, Killua, where's Gon? I figured he would be with you," Zephi said as she kept running, glancing at the silverette.
Killua looked at Zephi as he shrugged. "I'm not sure where he went. He was behind me one second and then he was just gone. I'm sure he just went to find the others and help them get back to the rest of the group. He'll be fine. I'm sure of it. We'll find him at the end."
"If you say so," Zephi replied and they all kept running.
Not long after, they were at the end of Swindler's Swamp.
"Kids, you should take a minute to rest," Aoifa advised and Killua grimaced.
"And why should we?" The silverette snapped with an attitude.
Aoifa hummed but just smiled, not letting his attitude affect her. "Because you said that you wanted to find this Gon boy, right. If you rest, that should give him time to get here and you can meet up with hi while conserving your energy."
"Yeah, whatever..." Killua grumbled, not really wanting to agree even though he knew she was right.
The two sat down for a few minutes and Zephi breathed deeply, hoping that this was the end of the running they had to do.
Killua started to get antsy fairly quickly so he stood up. "I'm gonna look for Gon. You coming?" He looked at the dark haired girl.
"Yeah, I'm coming," Zephi agreed as she hopped up, walking off with Killua to see if they could find Gon in the crowd of applicants that had come out of the Milsy Wetlands.
Killua started to almost get worried when they couldn't find the greenette.
"Aw, man. Where is he? I was sure Gon would be here," Killua said as he looked around. "Only Leorio made it back, but he's unconsious. Kurapika's out there still too."
Zepheena froze dead in her tracks. "What did you just say?"
"Only Leoria made it back and Kurapika is still out there. What about it?" Killua asked as Zepheena began to tremble.
"You said Kurapika?" Zephi asked again, not believing what she was hearing.
"Yeah, at least I think that's what his name was. He was that blonde guy from before," Killua replied and Zepheena looked at him, although he felt that it was more she was looking through him. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I just... it has to be him... it just has to be," Zepheena murmured, hope filling up inside of her.
She thought back to the blondie she had found familiar. It had to be her Kurapika. She didn't know what she would do if it ended up not being the Kurapika she knew and loved.
"Well, hopefully he's with Gon and they make it here okay," Killua said, thinking she was gonna pass out or something.
Just then, Zepheena caught the movement of something green behind Killua.
"Hey, Killua, I think I just saw Gon over there! He was heading towards where Leorio is," Zephi said before taking off immediately.
As soon as she saw Gon with Leorio and the blonde boy, her hands trembled.
"Kurapika?" Zepheena called out and he turned to look at her.
She knew it had to be him so she took off running, crashing into his chest as she threw her arms around him.
"Zepheena? Is it really you?" Kurapika questioned as he looked down at the girl he always saw as a sister, hugging her tight.
"It's me, I promise, Kura~kun," Zephi said as tears streamed down her cheeks. "I can prove it."
Zepheena looked up at Kurapika and took a breath before her eyes flashed scarlet.
Kurapika's eyes widened. "You can do it at will?"
"Yeah. I've been working on controlling it for the past four years. I met a guy who taught me how to fight and he helped me control it so that I could use the extra strength whenever I need it," Zephi explained as she held onto him.
"Wait, so you know each other?" Leorio questioned and Kurapika nodded with a bright smile.
"She's my little sister," Kurapika answered and Gon's eyes went wid
"You guys certainly don't look alike. I never would've guessed!" Gon said and Zephi giggled.
"We aren't blood related. Kurapika was my neighbor so we grew up together and he was even my babysitter. He's pretty much my brother, but we don't have the same parents," Zepheena explained and Gon nodded with an 'oh'.
"But, how did you even survive. I mean, I went back and everything was just... gone..." Kurapika spoke, trembling a little bit as he remembered the images of his home burned to the ground. His family dead with their corpses desecrated. The rest of his village completely burned, none of the Kurta escaping the fate of having their precious eyes removed from their dead bodies.
"I-" Zepheena started to explain before Satotz began speaking.
"Excellent work, everyone!" Satotz began as he stood in front of two large gate doors. "The second phase of the exam will take place here in the Visca Forest Park, so I shall now take my leave. I wish you all the very best of luck."
As Satotz began walking back into the Milsy Wetlands, the two huge doors began to slide open, revealing a large courtyard.
"Will all of the applicants who passed the first phase please enter," a voice called and Zepheena looked over at the woman who was speaking.
As all the applicants made their way into the site of the second phase.
"Welcome all," the greenette woman spoke with a smile on her phase. "I'm Menchi, your examiner for the second phase."
"And likewise, I'm Buhara," the giant man behind her said before there was a loud growling sound.
Menchi looked behind her and up at Buhara. "Sounds to me like you're getting hungry."
"Not just hungry. I'm famished," Buhara replied and Zepheena's eyes widened when she realized that the growl had come from Buhara's stomach.
"Well, there you have it. The second phase... will be cooking!" Menchi announced and everyone started murmuring.
"What do you mean we're cooking. We came here to take the hunter exam," Todo complained and a bunch of other applicants agreed with him.
"That's right. The second phase of the exam will be preparing a meal that will satisfy both of our palates," Menchi explained and Zephi smiled, feeling strongly about this challenge.
"Why do we have to cook?" A random applicant questioned.
"Don't you know? It's simple really," Menchi started to explain. "Because we're gourmet hunters!"
Todo started laughing and the others joined him. "Talk about a let down."
"Why is everyone laughing?" Zepheena questioned as she looked at Gon.
The greenette shrugged, just as clueless. "I don't know."
"I think cooking is fun. My cooking might not always be the best but I enjoy doing it," Zephi said and Gon brightened up.
"Do you think you could make me something sometime?" Gon asked excitedly to which she nodded quickly.
"So, you're both gourmet hunters," Todo spoke again. "And what exactly do you want us to make?"
"Buhara," Menchi said as she held back her anger.
"Today's required ingredient will be pork!" Buhara announced with a big smile.
"Pork?" An applicant questioned. "You mean like pig meat?"
"Feel free to use meat from any species of pig in Visca Forest," Buhara continued explaining. "As you see, you'll use these cooking facilities to prep your pork dishes. To pass the exam, you must create a dish to satisfy our discriminating palates."
"But we won't be evaluating taste alone, so take this seriously," Menchi spoke up with her arms crossed. "When we've both eaten our fill this portion of the exam will be over."
"Okay, enough talk," Todo waved it off. "Let's just get to it, alright?"
"Let the exam's second phase..." Buhara started before he slapped his tummy, making a rumbling gong sound. "Begin!"
All of the hunter applicants started running out into Visca Forest in search of pigs to kill.
Zepheena walked through the forest between Gon and Kurapika, smiling a bit as she looked around.
"Gotta catch a pig and cook it, huh? Man, this is way easier than the first phase," Leorio said with a cocky smile.
"I just hope it's that simple," Kurapika replied, shooting a smile at Zepheena which she quickly returned.
Gon hummed and jumped down the hill, sliding on the grass.
Zephi followed him, throwing her hands up as she felt like she was on a ride, until she noticed Gon had stopped. "Ah! Gon!"
She slid right into his back with a pained grunt. She then yelped as Killua crashed into her back, followed by Leorio, then Kurapika.
Killua balled his fast as he glared Gon. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!"
"I found 'em," Gon said simply and everyone looked to see the pigs Gon had spotted.
"Pigs!" Leorio exclaimed before seeing that they were eating something. "They're all chewing on bones..."
"Don't tell me..." Kurapika internally groaned as he realized this wouldn't be as easy as they priorly thought. "They're carnivores?"
The pigs took notice of the group and they all scrambled up off the ground.
"Great! I've been chased by many things, but never a pig!" Zephi shrieked as she dashed away from the giant pigs.
"These pigs are insane!" Leorio cried as the pigs launched a few applicants into the air with their snouts.
The other applicants began attacking the pigs from all angles, to no avail.
Zepheena had her wooden swords drawn as she waited for the moment to strike one of the pigs, noticing another pig coming up behind her quickly.
Killua noticed and his eyes went wide before Zephi leapt out of the way at the last minute, letting the two carnivorous pigs ram into each other full force.
She landed gracefully but failed to see another pig running at her after she was stunned to see the two pigs had done no damage to each other.
Kurapika noticed and was about to move, but Killua beat him to it.
The white haired boy dove at Zephi, pushing her out of the way and sending the two of them flying.
Zephi yelped and grasped onto Killua, clenching her eyes shut. When they landed, Killua made sure he hit the ground first.
"Sorry!" Zepheena apologized quickly as she rolled off Killua and onto the plush grass beside him.
Killua grunted and sat up. "Yeah, whatever. Just don't get yourself killed, idiot."
Kurapika ran over and helped them both up before seeing Gon fly through the air, slamming his fishing rod down onto a pig's forehead.
"Ah, their foreheads are their weak spot," Killua realized and Zephi nodded with a smile as she brushed off her shorts.
"I see. That makes sense," Kurapika started as he looked at the pig Gon had killed. "They developed tough snouts to protect their delicate foreheads."
Suddenly, everyone began taking down the pigs.
Killua rammed one on the forehead with his skateboard while Kurapika and Zepheena both used their wooden swords to take down the pigs.
Zephi's ponytail was falling out and strands that had fallen out were hanging in her face. She lifted up her pig and carried it back to the exam site with the others.
Zepheena got a station between Kurapika and Killua before she began cooking her pig.
She hadn't cooked pork before but she figured the concept was similar to cooking other meat.
She had an idea of what she wanted to make so she started to cook some carrots and celery. She then began making some broth with potatoes.
Once she had finished the broth and veggies, she mixed them all in and then cut up the pork into little cubes, mixing them in as well.
Menchi and Buhara had already began judging the other applicants, but it was clear that Menchi was not happy at all.
Zepheena peered over at Kurapika's dish and hummed, seeing how fancy it looked.
"Looks good, Kura~kun!" Zephi said with a bright smile, giving him a thumbs up as he took his plate up to be judged.
Zepheena kept her soup over the flame as to not let it get cold.
"GROSS!" Menchi yelled as she threw Kurapika's dish in the air which Buhara caught immediately.
Kurapika was taken aback and looked at Menchi, having thought he figured it out.
"The presentation is important, but not at the expense of the flavor. You're basically no better than number four-oh-three." Menchi held up the X marker and Kurapika slumped, walking back to his station.
"No better than four-oh-three, huh?" Kurapika mumbled and Zephi hummed as she brought her dish up.
She was nervous because Menchi seemed to be an incredibly harsh critic.
Menchi looked bored when Zephi came up with her pot of soup.
When the greenette saw the little girl, she hummed, scanning the large pot that was put in front of her.
"A soup, huh?" Menchi looked at the black haired girl who nodded, feigning confidence.
Menchi took a spoon and sipped the broth, humming slightly as she studied the taste. She then tried a whole bite of the soups' ingredients and coughed dramatically.
Buhara however took the whole pot and started pouring it into his mouth.
"It's a good broth and the vegetables were all done properly, but your pork was to chewy and clearly not cooked properly. Next!" Menchi held up the X marker.
Zepheena sighed and trudged back to her station.
"What did you make exactly?" Kurapika asked as Zepheena sat down on her station and waited.
"My grandma's pork soup. I thought it would be perfect for this challenge, but I messed up the pork," Zephi explained and Kurapika smiled.
"Oh, your grandma's soup was always the best. Especially her chicken soup. She really knew how to cook," Kurapika said as he leaned against Mari's station.
"That was so much food. I couldn't take another bite," Buhara said as he patted his tummy happily.
"Yeah, I'm pretty stuffed myself," Menchi huffed before uncrossing her legs and standing up. "So, none of you passed to the next phase. Exam's over!"
Everyone began complaining about failing the exam when Todo smashed his cooking station.
"This is unacceptable! Do you hear me? I will not accept this!" Todo argued and Zephi took a step back.
Menchi just rolled her eyes as she put her hands on her hips and said, "say what you want, but you still failed.
This only made Todo angrier. "Shut the hell up! You asked for pork and we gave it to you! We wrist our lives just-"
"Your challenge was to prepare a pork dish that both examiners would find delicious and none of you came even close to succeeding. Only a little girl who looks like she is ten came somewhat close and ninety-five percent of you are grown adults!" Menchi shouted in annoyance.
Zephi looked around with a dead expression on her face. She didn't mine being called out and she was fine with failing fair and square. She didn't see why Todo was throwing such a big fit. He didn't do what was asked so he failed. Plain and simple.
"You all pretty much did the same exact thing. I mean it's like you didn't even try to figure it out. And when it looked like you had tried, it was just fancy plating with no flavor to back it up. It's clear that none of you took this seriously!" Menchi continued angrily, clearly insulted.
"Yeah but come on pork. No matter how you cook it it's still just pork," the ninja, Hanzo said with a shrug.
Menchi got up in his face and grabbed him by the shirt. "You wanna say that one more time?! If I hear any more crap from you, I'll shove my arm up your ass and knock your teeth out! Got it don't try me punk! I dare you to say it one more time!" The greenette shoved the bald guy away and threw herself back into her seat. "So as I was saying, not a single one of you has the guts to cook anything remotely new or innovative."
"Hey, shut up! I'm not here cause I'm trying to be some gourmet cook, but a hunter!" Todo shouted and a bunch of applicants agreed with him. "My goal is to become a blacklist hunter, and no stupid gourmet hunter's gonna tell me I can't!"
"Then it's too bad that a 'stupid gourmet hunter' is your examiner. Well better luck next year I guess," Menchi mocked Todo, not even looking at him.
"Why you..." Todo growled before launching himself at her. "Don't mess with me!"
Buhara quickly slapped Todo away and into one of the towers for the gate to Visca Forest Park.
"Buhara, please don't interfere," Menchi said calmly as she looked at the applicants.
"I'm sorry, but it kind of looked like you were gonna kill him if I didn't step in," Buhara defended, turning his gaze down to Menchi.
"Probably," Menchi admitted as she stood up with two blades in each hand. "Let's get this straight. We frequently venture into the dens of ferocious beasts in search of the finest ingredients and every hunter is proficient in at least some form of martial art. You lack focus and the will to experiment with new things that alone disqualifies you all from becoming hunters."
"Well, that said it seems a bit excessive decisive to fail every single applicant," an older voice came throug the speakers of an airship flying over.
"The symbol of the hunters association!" One applicant shouted at seeing the insignia on the airship.
"Must be someone from the exam committee," another applicant realized.
Suddenly, a man jumped down and landed in the center of the crowd, sending up a smokescreen.
"Hey, wait. Who's the old man?" Someone asked as the sound of wooden getas came to a halt.
"He is the head of the exam committee, and he's responsible for the Hunter Exam. Chairman Netero," Menchi introduced as she stepped forward.
"Oh, I just work behind the scenes. It's not all that impressive. I only intervene in the exams when little issues like this one pop up. Now, dear Menchi," Netero started as he looked at the greenette standing in front of him.
"Sir," Menchi acknowledged the chairman.
"It's come to my attention that you've chosen to fail all of this year's applicants. Reason being as I understand it, their general reluctance to challenge the unknown," Netero replied as he attempted to keep his eyes off of Menchi's revealing assets.
"No," Menchi replied with a frown. "I'm sorry, sir, but I snapped when a candidate insulted gourmet hunters and I'm afraid I made the exam harder than necessary."
"I see, but it seems you are aware that this exam was completely unacceptable."
"Yes. It's just that I get so emotional when food is involved I'm not suited for this position so I must resign as examiner please let them retake the second phase," Menchi offered as she looked up at the chairman.
"Sadly I can't begin to think of where we'd find another examiner on such short notice," Netero replied with a small frown.
"My deepest apologies, sir." It was clear to everyone that Menchi was disappointed in her actions.
"Hold on. I have an idea," Netero spoke up after a moment. "You continue serving as examiner, but you yourself must participate along this year's applicants in completing whatever challenge you choose."
Menchi seemed to consider it for a moment.
"Well, what do you say? Sound reasonable? Surely that would make the applicants more comfortable with the results," Netero continued as his frowned turned back to his impish smile.
"I suppose you're right. And I have just the thing for the new challenge. We'll all be making boiled eggs!"
All the applicants began murmuring among themselves.
"Oo! I love boiled eggs!" Zephi gushed as her eyes sparkled. "Kura, do you remember how good boiled piko eggs were?"
Kurapika's face brightened as he thought of the food he hadn't eaten in years. "Boiled piko eggs were the best!"
"Chairman, I see you brought your airship Would you mind taking us all to split mountain?" Menchi requested as she looked up at the airship overhead.
Netero looked at her with a raised brow. "Split mountain? Oh, of course, I see."
Kurapika sat on the airship and looked at Zepheena who was laughing with Killua at something Gon had said.
"Hey, you good?" Leorio asked curiously as he saw the look in Kurapika's eyes.
Kurapika merely nodded before getting up and walking over to the kids, Leorio soon following behind him.
Zephi looked up at Kurapika as he came over and she smiled.
"Hey, Kura!" She waved happily before he sat beside her.
The blonde Kurta smiled and looked at her with a sad look in his eyes. "I hate to ruin the mood, but I need to know. How are you still alive?"
Zepheena's smile fell as the memories came to the forefront of her mind. They never left her for even a second, but she tried her best not to let it cloud her thoughts every second of every day like it used to.
"In all honesty, I should be dead..." Zephi admitted. "I was having trouble sleeping that night so I snuck out. I shouldn't have, but I did. I ended up going to the clearing me, you, and Pairo would go to play in. The one deep in the woods. I ended up falling asleep finally, but I..."
Kurapika gently put an arm around her, seeing the tears in her eyes.
"I woke up to screaming so I ran back... the village was on fire and... and people were lying everywhere and hanging in the trees... I watched my parents get killed..." Zepheena wiped her tears as she sniffled. "I was almost caught by the man who killed my parents, but I was able to lose him in the forest. I went back a few days later and I stayed there for a few days.
Killua listened intently, now understanding why she had a boldness to her tone. He had seen death before, being the cause of it most of the time, but he couldn't imagine what it must gave felt like to see his knew friends killed in front of him. Let's be honest, he would've smiled at seeing his parents and brothers killed.
"I hoped you would come home, but you never did. I left in hopes of finding you, but I was all alone," she spoke softly, leaning against Kurapika.
"Oh, Zephi, I'm so sorry. I never meant to leave you all alone like that," Kurapika apologized as he pulled her closer. "I did go back though. I found your parents. I want you to know that I laid everyone to rest."
Gon joined the hug and Leorio followed suit.
"You're never gonna left alone now that you have us!" Gon replied with a bright smile. "Right, Killua?!"
Killua looked at them and huffed but nodded. "Yeah, I guess so. You're cool so we'll stick around."
"Thanks guys. I wasn't completely alone the whole time though. I met a man named Ging and he taught me how to fight," Zephi explained and Gon gasped loudly.
"Ging?! What was his last name?!" Gon asked immediately.
"Freecss. His name was Ging Freecss. Why?" Zepheena questioned curiously as she looked at the boy.
"That's my dad! Do you know where he is now?!" The greenette looked at her with large hope filled eyes.
Zepheena frowned as she shook her head. "I'm sorry, but I don't. I haven't seen him in a few years. He trained me for four months and then left."
Gon slumped and Zephi put a hand on his shoulder.
"We'll help you find him. You're my friend so I'll help you with anything you need," Zephi promised which made Gon smile.
"Guys, I think we're here," Leorio said as he looked out the window of the airship.
"This is it take a look at what's down there," Menchi said as all the applicants looked over the edge of the cliff.
"What is that?" One of the applicants asked.
"A spider eagles web," Menchi answered with a grin.
"They build their webs weigh down there?" Gon questioned in shock as he peered at the webs that hung in the crevice below them.
A string gust of wind came up and Zephi smiled as it blew in her face.
"Look past the web to what's underneath," Menchi replied, her hands stuck to her hips.
"Hey, those are..." Gon trailed off as he saw the bundles hanging off the webs.
"Those are spider eagle eggs," Menchi spoke and Zepheena looked in awe.
"Spider eagles lay their eggs and deep ravines like this one. It helps protect their eggs from predators. That's what makes spider eagle eggs one of the most difficult ingredients to obtain. Also the eggs are commonly known as dream eggs," Chairman Netero explained to the pool of applicants.
Zepheena's face brightened. She had heard of dream eggs but had never tried one before.
"Hey wait a minute. Do you mean..." Todo looked at Menchi in horror as he realized what she was about to do.
"You bet I do," Menchi replied before leaping off the edge of the cliff.
Killua watched the green haired examiner grab onto one of the web strands in the ravine.
"Even if she grabs a few eggs, how is she gonna climb back up?" Leorio spoke up as he looked over the edge before Menchi dropped down, grabbing an egg from its bundle as she fell. "Hey! She jumped down! Is she trying to get herself killed?!"
"No, she's not," Kurapika said calmly.
After a moment, another gust of wind blew threw the ravine, lifting Menchi out of the crevice.
She looked as though she were flying as she rode the draft out of the ravine and landed gracefully on the cliff once again.
"That looks so fun!" Killua exclaimed with a look of amazement.
"I wanna try!" Zephi gushed as she looked at Menchi in excitement.
"This ravine has updrafts that are crucial to the spider eagles," Netero explained. "Once they hatch the wind currents help guide their newborn chicks as they fly up to safety."
"Now I just need to boil it and I'll be set," Menchi spoke as she held the egg in her hand.
"You got to be kidding! You mean you really expect us to jump down there?! That's crazy!" Todo shouted.
"I've been waiting for something like this!" Gon cheered.
"Let's go!" Zephi jumped up before leaping beside Gon and Killua.
Kurapika and Leorio followed behind the three kids quickly.
Gon let out a whoop of joy as he felt the air rushing past him as he fell.
Zephi grabbed onto a web and made sure her grip was strong as the other applicants started grabbing on as well.
"Later!" One man shouted as he dropped down from the web.
"What are we waiting for?" Leorio asked impatiently.
"Hold on. Don't let go yet," Gon instructed.
"Why? What's wrong?" Leorio questioned, looking over at Gon.
"No wind," Killua answered.
"The up drafts don't happen all the time," Kurapika added.
"When do you think the next one comes along?" Leorio asked, looking up at his hands as they gripped onto the web.
"Any minute now," Gon answered calmly.
Everyone went quiet as Gon closed his eyes.
"Oh crap!" Leorio shrieked as the web began to give.
"It appears the web isn't strong enough to support all this weight!" Kurapika panicked a bit as he tightened his grip.
"Gon, can we go yet?" Zephi asked quickly.
"Damn, I can't wait any longer!" One man cried out as his grip gave out.
A few applicants fell down to the bottom of the ravine and Zephi looked away.
"It's about to snap!" Leorio panicked.
"Okay, now!" Gon instructed.
The applicants listened to the boy and they all dropped down, grabbing eggs from the bundles as they fell.
Zephi clenched her eyes shut as she clutched her egg close to her chest. The wind began to push her back up and she laughed as the rush of adrenaline ran through her.
She landed on the cliff and smiled bright as she looked up at Kurapika. "That was fun!"
Killua landed beside Zephi and looked at his egg.
"So now we boil them?" Kurapika asked as he looked at Menchi.
"Yep! Just put them in the boiling pot of water and wait till they're done!" She instructed.
The applicants who had taken the plunge and gotten the eggs all boiled their dream eggs in the pot of boiling water provided for them.
When they were finished, Zephi carefully took a bite of the ivory egg.
As soon as the flavor hit her tongue, she melted into a huge smile.
"This is the best thing I've ever tasted!" Zephi gushed happily.
"I know, right?!" Killua agreed as he enjoyed his own egg.
"I can see why they're called dream eggs," Kurapika spoke.
Netero then cleared his throat. "If I may ask all the remaining applicants to join me on board the airship. We muat continue the exam."
Zephi looked at Killua and Gon as she smiled. "Last one there is a rotten egg!
She then took off with Killua right on her tail.
"Hey, wait! Not fair!" Gon cried as he got a late start.
