14. Grimslay, Take The Wheel
The rest of the night passed uneventfully. Unless you count storms eventful. And to be honest, you probably should.
The sun that threatended to creep over the horizon was completely hidden by layers of angry, blustering clouds. It was five in the morning and Grim had to use the headlights to cut through the fog.
Unfortunately, the headlights couldn't cut through the fog that hung over his mind. He didn't want to alarm Artemis, but he was still bent out of shape over his dream.
"Look out!" Artemis snapped, pulling Grim from his thoughts.
Instinctively, he slammed on the breaks. A dark shape darted in front of their car, grazing the hood. Grim spat out a stream of curses in, including, but not limited to, Latin, Greek, Arabic, and good 'ole English.
"Was that a dog?" Grim said breathlessly.
Sweat was visible on Artemis's face. "You don't think the hellhounds found us again, do you?"
Grim's ears were buzzing. That was definitely not a dog, or even a hellhound. There was no way, it couldn't be that. He kept driving, shaking off the anxiety swirling in his gut.
Bright eyes shined on the side of the road, and Grim grew more frantic. They were being followed.
A figure slammed into the side of the car, sending it flying off the road and sliding into a ditch. Grim, in a panic, hit the gas, but the car's wheels were stuck in a thick bed of mud.
Like wolves closing in on a wounded deer, creatures crept from the trees, and Grim's heart nearly stopped.
It was the beings from his dream.
