Kurome's Backstory / When She Was A Human

She used to be a master assassin and swordmaster that killed corrupted people. At some point during her free time, she practiced the forbidden magic of necromancy/bringing the dead back as her minion.

During the great war, she was trying to kill the original Devil King because of the corruption they spread across her world. Unfortunately for her, she managed to kill one of them before she was killed. After her death, she was turned into what we call Sacred Gear by God as both compensations and in form of thanks for doing what God failed to, defeating the Devil Kings. The katana she wielded on assassin quests that she called Yatsufusa, meaning Eight Tassel or Fasten The Soul Of The Dead, was now the prison for her trapped soul.
