Where It All Starts

I sit in the cafe, ready to hear the signal. We've been planning this for months-- whatever this is. They've only told me a small part of what is actually going to play out. I don't even know what the signal is; all they told me was that I would know when it happened. To be honest, I was quite scared when I first got the letter that stated that, and my nerves are still on edge. I lift my cup, my hand slightly shaking. I hope whoever's in charge of this plan doesn't see me. I don't want to be viewed as weak; also, a lot of money is in on this deal. If I mess up, I get nothing.

I look at the magazine in front of me to pass the time, when I see a little note in between two of the pages. I look around warily, making sure no ones watching. I take the note out from in between the pages and hold it flat against the page on the left, carefully reading it.

I furrow my brows. What does it mean? I look up, and am blinded by dark fabric. I am being strangled by the darkness and can feel myself being carried by a small group of about three people. I squirm, trying to set myself free, and then stop. This is the signal. This is my destiny.

I feel myself being thrown, most likely into the back of the truck. A few seconds later I hear the doors slam shut. When I hear the engine start up, my assumptions are confirmed.

You know, being in this car is actually kind of... peaceful. I have time to think about what I'm getting myself into. World domination. A very big task. One that I only play a small part in. I sigh, and wonder how it is all going to work.

In about an hour, the engine shuts off, and they get me out of the car. They are shoving me violently towards wherever it is I am headed. In just a few minutes they had brought me down a set of stairs and onto a chair. As soon as I was secure on the chair, they left, letting their footsteps echo around the room. I sit on the cold, metal chair for a few minutes before someone finally noticed.

"Hey guys!" a voice calls out. "There's someone in here!"

A woman runs in and takes the bag off my head, while a man starts untying the rope around my hands.

I stand up and stretch, and then walk into the main room. I gaze around the room in astonishment.

"A super computer! Hooked up with Delta 5? We can break into anything with that." I move from the big screen and tiny keyboard to another table and pick up a small silver gun. "Laser pointer 2.0, more deadly than what you would expect." I pick it up and practise the aiming, and return it back to its place on the table. "Is this how we're going to do it?"

The man and woman who helped me out of the chair start laughing, and the man at the super computer keeps working and coding.

"Ha! You're hilarious!" the man says, bending forwards with laughter. "I'm so glad that you're the one in charge. A funny and evil genius, something you only see in the cartoons."

The woman sees my look of confusion and taps the man on his shoulder, trying to stop his laughter. She slaps his arm when he won't stop.

"What was that for, Shannon?"

She gives him the death glare. "Bill, I don't think he knows."

While the two of them bicker on, the man from the super computer comes and introduces himself to me.

"I'm Regnad. The hacker of the group. If you didn't already know, you're in charge. I would give orders if I were you before someone," he points at himself, "Tries to take over."

I examine the room around me once again. I look at all the equipment-- machine and human. Shannon's red hair would not be good for her to go anywhere outside and try to bomb or blast anything, so she is out. Regnad has to be in this room to hack, so he is out too. Bill, well, he's very clumsy. In the time I've been here he has managed to knock over 3 beakers-- two of which contained very acidic substances-- and momentarily stop the computer. I wouldn't trust him with the laser pointer. Except, now that I think about it, he looks familiar. He's the one that designed the laser pointer 2.0, and Shannon's the one that made it.

"This is what's going to happen," I walk and stand beside Regnad. "Regnad will stay here and over take the White House, while Bill will come out with me and be backup. You probably won't be needed, just...hang in the shadows."
Everyone nods at me. Time to put this in action.

-------------

Bill and I sit on the subway, waiting for our plan to commence. We already went over it in full detail back at the control centre, and we knew exactly what we were going to do. I shove the small silver gun deeper into my pocket, making sure it can't be seen. That's the last thing I want-- to be stopped before we even get to our destination.

The train stops, and Bill and I leave, walking to what we know as home. New York City. Regnad shuts off the White House and we get the next biggest place. Then Shannon, who I told should 'stay in the shadows' uses back alleys to get into the White House where she would blend in with all the security guards, swiftly get away from the commotion, and infiltrate it from the inside. Perfect.

Bill sets himself up at a Pizza Pizza place, facing out the windows towards me. We had been planning this for weeks, and it was bound to work. Bill has his own laser pointer 2.0 as a backup. I feel relief go through me as I realize that we have one more step till eventual world dominance. And from that super computer to the White House, we can eventually reprogram the world. Guns can only get you so far.

I walk with the rest of the crowd when the stoplight turns red, and perch myself in the middle of the street. I put my right hand on the metallic weapon in my pocket, and my left hand on my earpiece. I look around without moving my head, pretending that there is too much ear wax where it shouldn't be. I move my earpiece around as a distraction and hear Shannon say the signal, followed by Bill, and then Regnad. My turn.
